Randomly found this place while visiting Orlando because we were craving Japanese food and what a pleasant surprise! We came early around 6pm and the place was already packed, so we knew we came to the right spot! Love to add a good Japanese izakaya to our Orlando list!! Food: 9.5/10, everyone try their ramen!! We had the black tonkotsu and did not expect much considering they're an izakaya and not a ramen shop, but they blew us away. The broth was so amazingly rich and flavorful, so so good. We also had the oyster mushroom tempura and susuru gohan, both were absolutely amazing. The mushroom tempura was piping hot, crispy on the outside with the chewy mushroom inside, and we got chasiu and uni with our susuru gohan, very lovely. Drinks: 8.5/10, but I only tried one drink, the Ultraman. The drink was well made. Tender without being overly seasoned. Got hooked from the first bite. Sausage: Wanted something sweet, but the "sweet sausage" was more like those mini sausages from the Japanese store, salty. Thigh w/ scallion: Weekend specials were all out. Dark meat was tender, and the grilled scallions gave me cravings for stir-fried garlic chives. Knee cartilage: chicken dishes are just okay, nothing special. Short rib: Saw tons of recommendations for this, so expectations were high. it was tough to chew and lacked any standout flavor. When we arrived there wasn't much of a wait. They sat us very fast. It was our first time there so our mission to try as much ad we could. We tried the yakitori which were cooked to perfection. We tried the salmon tataki and the flavors were amazing. For me that was my favorite dish. The truffle sesame tuna was my second favorite. They were both very refreshing. What a fun place! I went with a couple of friends. We waited around 30 mins for a table. We could order a beer while waiting. I ordered the Okonomiyaki which was slightly disappointing. There seemed to be a flour or some sort of starch that wasn't cooked all the way thru which made each bite harder to eat. The short rib skewer was a bit fatty for my liking and with one skewer for that price I would hope to get a slightly better cut. The chicken karaage. No notes. The Tsukune or chicken meat ball came with a bunch of sauces. This was probably my favorite bite of the whole meal. My friends got ramen dishes. The fries needed more sauce towards the bottom. I've been visiting Orlando for the past several years, so I was delighted to finally come here. I honestly wouldn't have imagined a place like this existed in Orlando. The environment encapsulates Japanese pop culture, which a lot of different ornaments, figurines and posters are plastered throughout the restaurant. It's izakaya so options are mostly shareable small plates, but they also have ramen bowls too. At least with our order, most items were fried. Food was really good and pairs well with beer. Truly an izakaya establishment. As a beer lover, I loved that they had a variety of beers to choose from. My girlfriend and I sat up at the bar seating area. I had been wanting to try this spot for some time. It is located in a shopping plaza with many other restaurants and shops. We decided to visit on Christmas Eve and arrived around 6:50pm. It was very busy and we had to wait about 30min for a table. The decor is very cool vintage Japanese memorabilia. This is a small plates/tapas restaurant. I like that because you can order many different things to try and reorder any that you would like more of. It's a perfect way to sample new things and fun with a group! We started with chicken karaage snack ($10) that was good to share. The chicken had a nice golden crispy crust and cooked perfectly. Next we had the tempura king oyster mushrooms ($9) that are meaty and really good for sharing. Followed by susuru chashu gohan ($9) full of unique flavors. The yakitori, kushiyaki and yasai are all things on a single skewer. When ordering, you will get one skewer for the price and when ordering multiple, they most likely will be served together on a platter. We tried the pork belly, short rib, Brussel sprouts and taukune. All had great flavors. We finished with matcha tiramisu ($7) that is served with green tea. Wow service is on point and food was surprisingly very good! We were visiting Orlando and were craving some Japanese food and we're glad we stumbled upon here. The busy tables and long wait was a good sign. Despite the variety on the menu and full tables, all the staff remained attentive and were so awesome. Favorite dishes were: - mentaiko fries - tako wasa (raw octopus with wasabi, with a hint of yuzu) - Suzuki gohan - momo (thigh) - beef tongue (super huge cubes which I've never had prepared like this before!) - short ribs - chicken wing - hiza nankots (knee cartilage) - tebasaki (wings) They ran out of chicken skin when we were there :( but the rest of the items were delicious! We were too full but I would have loved to try the chicken heart too. This will be a must visit every time we're in Orlando. Don't sleep on this spot and make sure you check it out! Yakitori can get pricey but it was all delicious and good value for what you get. Saying we loved this place is an understatement. This reminded us so much of Japanese izakayas in Tokyo. Susuru had so many different dishes to share as well as bowls of ramen and rice if you're looking for something more individual. I 100% recommend ordering a bunch of dishes and sharing so you can try a little bit of everything! The mentaiko fries are a must-try and the street corn was so juicy!!! The Hamachi was cooked to perfection and there was so much yellowtail meat on the bone. We ended up coming to Susuru twice in one week as it was some of the more authentic Japanese cuisine in Orlando. This will be a regular spot when we visit for sure! read more

Susuru is extremely popular so let me preface this by saying go early!! We got there maybe 30 minutes after they opened and for a party of 4 it was a 45-60 minute wait. However when we were seated they served us so quickly we forgot about the wait. We got our food soon after and we got to try most of the hot items on the menu! The chicken meatball skewers were delicious, we ordered maybe one of each sauce. We also ordered ramen. The chicken ramen is so good! Light and not so oily like other ramen tends to be. The second time I came here with a coworker as a party of 2 and we didn't wait too long as we were fine with bar seating. If you order any of their specialty cocktails that comes with a toy, you can keep it! We ordered mostly apps and yakitori/kushiyaki and some dons and it was filling. Finally got to try this place! We attempted to go here before but we arrived well after opening and we were told 3 hours. 3 HOURS!?!! Geeez... This time were thought we were prepare. We were shooting to be there by 5pm but didn't figure for traffic so we didn't get there until 5:15 and the line was already there and growing. We parked and got in line immediately, trying to formulate a plan to get in and seated, like counting the numbers of tables and chairs inside, guessing how many people ahead of us were together as a party. We were a little worried that we'd have to wait when we got in. Luckily there were large parties ahead of us and the bar was wide open so when it became our turn at the host stand, we opted for seats at the bar and they gladly sat us there. The vibe definitely screams Japan but like the Japan in the anime I watch, with the staff greeting you, vintage Japanese masks, toys, and ads on the wall along with a soundtrack of J-Pop, video game and anime intros. I was in nerdy heaven. Dennis and Chris took very good care of us. We started off with dranks: the Yuzu Lemonedo (yuzu lemonade, Japanese Gin, Choya lemon soda) and the 2oz Suntory Toki (Japanese Whiskey, green apples, peppermint, thyme, spicy vanilla notes). That whiskey tasted like straight up cough medicine. It wasn't for me. The lemonedo was perfect because you couldn't taste the alcohol. That have squid on their little "exotic" menu and I was over the moon. We ordered one and it tasted so good we ordered another one. That was the highlight dish for me. We ordered other items as well: Raw octopus with wasabi sauce - the octopus was delicious but I struggled finishing it all on my own as the wasabi sauce is super strong. My sinuses were cleared for days afterwards. Chicken hearts - you could tell what they were all skewered together. These were good but you could definitely taste the iron in them. Beef tongue - another dish we ordered 2 of. This is by far the best preparation of beef tongue that I've ever had. Cubed, grilled, and skewered these were so soft that there wasn't much to chew, kinda like mousse. Hamachi kama (yellowtail collar, ponzu, lemon) - why isn't this an appetizer at other places that sell yellowtail tuna??? what are y'all doing with the collarbones? This was delicious! Tonkostu Ramen (pork chashu, shoyu soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, scallions, nori 12 hour broth) - this was my man's entree and he liked it alot. I only had the chashu and that pork was delicious. there was no fat on it so it was just white meat. best I've ever had. Pork Belly - just like the pork in the ramen but with the fat. the white meat was still good this way. I had room for another squid but I got stopped from ordering it. And in all honesty he was right, we did have enough to eat. I have to go back as many times as I can. This place is awesome! read more

Finally remembered to try out this joint that I've pinned & saved away for over 2 years, and have forgotten all about it. 1st of all, DO anticipate to WAIT, if your party is more than 2. We did with 4 & 1 child, about 35 minutes of wait time, and well worth the wait 2! The ambiance is quite Japanese nostalgic, that's 4 sure. A neat decored wall environment & eye catching while waiting. Tables of 2 & up are all throughout the establishment, and fun vibes. We started with a few apps (Hamachi Kama, Chicken Kara-Age, Gyoza, Okonomiyaki, Hiyayakku Tofu) , then continually to add on as the time went by (Hamachi Crudo, all sorts of grilled variety of skewered meats & veggies), then ramen (Tori Paitan & Tonkotsu). Then, into the desserts with 1 of each 2 share (Matcha Tira-Matsu with green teas, and Soft Serve of black sesame in a waffle cone). You know the foods are DAMN good, when a 2-Year old consumed a sample of EVERYTHING, which he NEVER did at all other places we went prior, ever! An excellent little izakaya in an unassuming strip mall. Everything from the decor to the service was great. We ordered yakitori (beef tongue, chicken skin, and the chicken thighs + scallion special) and the tori paiten ramen. The yakitori had a nice char on it and a smoky flavor, and the yuzu marinade on the chicken chashu helped to balance out the fat of the ramen. I do feel like the ramen was missing another sharp element, maybe more onion or citrus. My favorite dish was the grilled mackerel and my friend and I ate every last bit of it. Thought the shiitake mushrooms would be special, but it was just, well, mushrooms. Still good though. We decided to go to Susuru after Domu was at a capacity waitlist for the night. Still, the wait for Susuru was an hour and I'd say, it was pretty well worth the wait. The interior is definitely a vibe with all of the vintage dolls and posters which is what I was most impressed with. We sat at the bar, and our waitress Rena was absolutely lovely! She walked us through the menu, explained entrees as well as best sellers. My friend got the Kewpie cocktail and it was so delicious and cute! Added alcohol for $3 and it still was a smooth, creamy matcha delight! We also got the fries (which were great and plenty) and both got Tonkotsu. I'll say that this is a more herb-y Tonkotsu than I've had prior, but the flavor profile was still good. You at least have to go here once- but don't wait till rush hour! read more

I love the atmosphere and I never mention music in my reviews but the music was so good. Japanese mixes of popular American pop songs. I've eaten in dotonburri japan before and I actually liked the tartan ramen here better than any ramen I've had over there. They had mixed drinks that included a japanesese icon souvenirs like godzilla or seiyaman. I wanted godzilla but they were out. Really cool concept though. Plan to come 30 minutes early. Our attempt to avoid a long wait was to visit on a weekday. We arrived at 6:15pm on a Tuesday (The restaurant opens at 5pm) and there was no wait. However, we could not be seated until our entire party arrived. Within 15 minutes, the line exploded from no wait to a one-hour wait. We were lucky enough to be seated right away just before the rest of our party arrived. We enjoyed a large variety of sharable Japanese dishes. To start we had Okonomiyaki, a crisp cabbage pancake with a creamy kewpie mayo drizzle. Next we ordered a variety of Yakatori (grilled chicken skewers) including Kawa (crispy flavorful lightly smokey skin), Momo (tender juicy thigh), and Soriresu (an extra succulent and savory part of the thigh). We also had Tempura Fried King Oyster Mushrooms which were tender, juicy and covered in a light crisp breading and paired with a lemony cream sauce. A plate of Yasai (Grilled Veggie Skewer) came out next with tender, juicy and smokey zucchini, eggplant, and shitake mushrooms. For myself I ordered the Susuru Chashu Gohan a rice bowl with nicely fatty melt in your mouth marinated pork belly. Finally, we also had an order of juicy, crisp and peppery Chicken Karrage.
