I HAD to write about Sutters Mill because my husband and I had the best dining experience we've had in years. First of all the menu is great.. they have great higher and lower priced options. It was my birthday so I got the steak and crab legs.. amazing!!! The wait staff is great. The owner is awesome.. gave us two free deserts cuz it was my birthday and our first time there. Great for date night, if you want a really good steak! Service was good. The only negative thing is that they sat me and my husband in a cute little couples booth (which was fine) until they seated a some people right across from us. And since we were sitting next to eachother like some couples like to do, the view wasn't very romantic! Definately will be back though. read more

Our work team from Logix was awarded a dinner and we were taken to Sutters Mill.. WOW was that good! I ordered the Prime rib, world famous baked patatoe and the salad. The size was huge! I believe I ordered the 12oz. and I'm pretty sure it was more than that because i barely made a dent in it :) Our waitress was AWESOME and I mean AWESOME, for a roudy croud of 15 she was able to keep everyone happy and was super sweet, our co-worker had a few special requests due to the fact that she cant eat certain dairy products or bread. and she was so helpful in finding her something to eat. she even made sure the cook prepared the meal seperatly and in different condiments. made to order :) which I think goes far beyond customer service. Great service! I prefer mature (older) server because they seem to be more experience, very professional, prompt, attentive and very nice. Great food for the price. Very friendly owners! I recommend trying their brunch buffet, limited selection but very high quality of foods. We just love coming here. read more

I have come to Sutters Mill a few times now and I'm really impressed. My meal is always delicious and cooked perfectly. I love the NY strip steak with blue cheese on top. They have the best blue cheese dressing as well. The sides come with the meal so you don't have to purchase them separately. The vibe and decor of the place is very classy. In the 1970's, my family would go to the Sutter's Mill in Mission Hills. As a child, it was always a treat and have wonderful memories of the entire family eating at big tables in the restaurant. A few years ago, I wondered whatever happened to Sutter's Mill and did some internet research and saw that the restaurant was now located in Simi Valley. Last night, my son and I were in Simi Valley, so I decided to look up the restaurant and give it a try. I was very glad that I did. There were many items on the menu that I remembered being there as a boy. I ordered the ribs, my son the Sutter's Mill Signature Steak. The food was great. I got the stuffed potato with my ribs and it was every bit as good as I remember it as a boy. Both of us loved the meal. We got great food at very reasonable prices. Our server was also very attentive and checked our table frequently to see if we were enjoying our meal or needed refills on our drinks (nonalcoholic). Sutter's Mill seems to be the only steakhouse that I can think of now that serves full dinners and they do it for less than an ala cart steak at one of the chain steakhouses. The food is every bit as good. There is great value here and I know I'll be back whenever I find myself in Simi Valley at dinner time. read more

Me and me fiancé came here for lunch to try it out as a possible place to hold our wedding rehearsal dinner. We weren't to sure what to expect because from the outside it seems very plain. Once we walked in I fell in love. The place was so cute and reminded me of a place that would be in frontier land at Disneyland. We and the crab stuffed mushrooms and shrimp cocktail for appetizer and both were delicious. For our entree we both had the signature 8oz top sirloin steak ( wanted to try this because it's what would be served at our dinner). The steak was awesome and perfectly cooked. My side was asparagus and his was their twice baked potato... All I can say is OMG delicious. Each came with garlic toast which was sourdough with a really yummy garlic butter flavor. Very nice compliment to the steak. We went during lunch so the price for the steak was only $11.95 and definitely not a lunch size at all, there was plenty. Now to my favorite part, our waitress who happened to be the owners daughter asked if we wanted dessert and we weren't planning on it but she said the "Deep Fried Cheesecake" was the best dessert ever so we tried it. All I can say is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! Seriously the best dessert I've ever had at a restaurant. It's tortillas filled with cheesecake then deep fried and rolled in cinnamon and sugar served with vanilla ice-cream, whipped cream and Caramel drizzle. It was too sweet and the cheesecake was very smooth and light as well. So mad I didn't get a pic of it because it looked great. I will definitely be back to this place and for sure will host our rehearsal dinner there. Very nice service as well!!! read more

My boyfriend and I joined his brother and his wife for a birthday celebration tonight. First of all I have to compliment our waitress Anna. She really helped us with the menus and our ordering. We all had steaks that were perfectly cooked to our liking, the sides were great to. This is a restaurant that my parents went to when I was a kid, I can see why they thought of it as a favorite. Been coming here for years. I have to say that the food quality and service has really seemed to have stepped up a bit the last couple of visits. Prime rib Perfect! Steaks Perfect! Clam chowder is a must try. Wedge salad with fresh made blue cheese dressing is delicious and of course the twice baked potatoes are awesome. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. We have been eating at Sutters Mill for years. The food is always good and the drinks are too! The inside of the restuarant is very dated, however don't let that stop you from eating here. The service is always top notch. Our favorite server is Gaby so attentive and will give you the scoop if something is not up to par on the menu! read more

My daughter and I have been frequent patrons of Sutter's Mill. However, over the last year have only been there a few times. Both times we have been disappointed in the dinner, The salad is watery and the salad dressing quickly disappears into the water. The steak is no longer served with the sauce. You have to ask for it and it too is watered down. We ordered the larger steaks and were told the garlic bread is no longer included. I believe it now costs $2 something, The crab stuffed mushrooms are smaller and fewer as is the shrimp cocktail. The staff are friendly and attentive but seem to be waiting on a lot of tables so it does take a little time to get their attention. The place is just not the same as it was 1 year to two ago, What happen that prices have increased and quality decreased? read more

Food was just average but rather pricey for what you got. I ordered a salad with Balsamic Vinegar dressing. What I got was a plate of iceberg lettuce and a couple of bottles of vinegar and oil. Dinner was salmon and french fries. And there was NO BREAD before the meal. That should have been standard for the $24 price of the meal. Then it took FOREVER to get served the main course. Also, the acoustics were such that the family in the opposite corner of the dining room made it difficult for my party to hear each other because they were talking and laughing so loud. If the prices were more reasonable, if there was bread, and speedier service, I would have given this restaurant a higher rating. I will most likely not come here again. read more

Sutter's Mill is a GEM! Here is served the finest food in Simi Valley! The burgers and sandwiches at lunch are huge, juicy, fresh, and delicious but the real treat is the dinner menu. It's really hard to single one thing out but I guess it would have to be the prime rib....but the steaks are perfectly cooked and tender....and the crab legs are almost irresistible....Heck, everything I have ever ordered here has been perfect! Excellent Chef, friendly professional service, warm and comfortable decor...just a great dining experience with a bunch of friendly folks--from the owners on down the list of employees. What a fabulous place! We wanted to spend Christmas Eve out at a nice restaurant instead of cooking. We had the pleasure of having dinner here at Sutter's Mill, Simi Valley. The lobster was as good as the lobster we get Back East. The steaks were great too! But what made our dinner so special was the server. We were fortunate enough to be in Heather's section. Her smile and positive attitude was wonderful. From start to finish the service was exceptional. Every person working in the restaurant were so very nice and kind. We just had dinner here. The food and service were both exceptional. Our server Anna was awesome. She was attentive, friendly and funny. This was our first time dining at this fine establishment and I could not have been more pleased with our food and service. I had the rib eye steak with mashed potatoes and a bowl of clam chowder. The clam chowder was delicious, the steak was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes was great. My wife ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes and she loved every bite. My mother-in-law ordered the petite rib eye steak with mashed potatoes and I knew she loved it from the deep sigh of contentment and smile after her first bite. I finished off my meal with a cup of coffee and an order of the fried cheese cake dessert. It was the perfect ending to the meal. I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone try this place. The decor is interesting....although it needs a little dusting here and there. The service is awesome and the food is yummy. Sutter Fries are beyond delicious and the Wallyburger was PERFECT! It is definitely worth a try and any time you are in Simi Valley you should at least give it a try. read more

Love the homestyle vibe here - randomly, the things I love from the menu weren't necessarily the beef - though no complaints there! What really wow'd me were some of the specials and daily soups. I had a salmon fish chowder one day that was just out of this world - fresh, filled with crunchy veggies, not over cooked, beautiful broth - the soup alone had me coming back. I cannot say enough about Sutters Mill and constantly refer my married friends with kid to it. I have 4 kids in my household and two are soooo picky but at Sutters Mill one was free to eat and the other two only costed $5 each, WHAT! The Mac n cheese is the best I have ever had...all the steaks are primo. I can't even get to dessert sine I always start with the amazing wedge. I get the ranch on it and it is amazing. I always say I should stop there lol. One special was a steak with a marinate mushroom sauce with some sort of alcohol and I don't think anyone could ever duplicate that flavor and tenderness. Then you get a potato and bread and just so much. You can also bring your vino and no corkage fee, really? Good food, especially the homemade salad dressings & twice baked potatoes. The crab stuffed mushrooms were a little bland & overcooked, but the beef dishes we had were outstanding. The decor is comfortable & welcoming and the wait staff is friendly but a little inattentive at times when busy. It seems to me that it is always hit and miss with this restaurant. Our first experience was wonderful! Romantic, quiet, delicious food no issues. Service was great. Our second experience had us in a noisy back room with horrible service and the food being brought to us before we were even halfway through our salads. Our 3rd experience was amazing -delicious, tender "cut it with a butter knife" fillet mignon. Cooked to perfection! Wonderful service -very rewarding experience. Worth the $$$. Our experience tonight was not quite what I had hoped for. While the service was excellent and our server was wonderful I ordered that same filet mignon and what was served looked and tasted like a top sirloin. It was mealy, it was chewy, it did not have the flavor of the fillet. I sent it back. Got the same thing only barely cooked the second time around. I did not want to waste even more food and send it back again, so I ate around the edges where it was medium rare. The offer of a comp dessert did us no good as we don't eat dessert. My meal should have been comped. Either they were trying to pass off top sirloin as a fillet, or they got a bad batch of meat. Needless to say we won't be taking that gamble at those prices again! read more
