I have been to this place multiple times for their buffet, dinner and have used their catering as well. Most of the times I have been satisfied with the non greasy and good tasting food. Many times for dinner if they have excess desserts they do give complimentary desserts. They serve Indian style coffee too.Their catering is very fresh and tasty. Though at an expensive side but the taste of food makes it worth it. They do customize out of menu as per your preference. I have never met the owner and mostly see new staff. The staff is well trained, warm and friendly. I don't go in food coma after their buffet;) and food is fresh. They have good variety of vegetarian options too. I like they keep innovating with the buffet and it is not the usual same stuff. I had a zucchini with gram lentil in coconut sauce and broccoli stir fry in Indian spices. Which is not usual buffet menu. They offer more of South Indian style food. I am visiting them again when I crave for restaurant style Indian food and good service. This is my absolute favorite Indian spot. Im from the south and my exposure to Indian food was minimal. I'm the typical "American" when it comes to Indian food and I don't do well with spicy foods. I was extremely hesitant to try it but so glad that I did. They have so many options for me that don't leave my mouth on fire and are absolutely delicious. However, they have plenty of other options for my spicy loving friends and family. I would recommend this place to folks who love Indian as well as others who are new to it. Amazing food!! read more

This place has a fine dining type of atmosphere/ambiance. Its was clean, well decorated, and cozy - but yes it was a bit dark inside. Went here on a Tuesday night - and it seemed pretty dead at about 7 pm. Luckily the food was not as dead as well. At first I was worried - with the, you know, the aftermath after eating super spicy food - the next day? The location to this place is beautiful so obviously the place itself would be just as beautiful and it is! As you walk to the restaurant you can see these beautiful sign that say the restaurant name. You turn the corner to see a dark double door with some amazing detail. As you open the door your mouth dops from how stunning it looks inside. The food portions are big enough for lunch for the next day, three service is super fast the of the presentation of the food is gorgeous you just feel fancy. Made plans for a girlfriend and I to have dinner here, we both had never been. I was greeted by a very nice gentleman. The waiter promptly brought our courtesy crisp bread and sauce Im sorry I can't remember the name but it was tasty! We ordered lamb samosas and they were delicious !!!! So we order often from Swagat via Grubhub and have not been to the physical restaurant. PROS: food is great for the most part. Portions are reasonable and good quality. Orders are done fast and packed well for transport CONS: orders are done fast. My partner has some stomach issues so he asks for mild spice. For the most part they oblige but there have been a few times it has been way too hot for me let alone him and I like spicey. Most orders something has been wrong, missing or a couple times duplicated. There are some consistency issues with dishes. I love their rice pudding but tonight it was paste, no cashews or raisins and tasted a bit like the rice might have been going off. I come here for takeout. Their goat curry and mango lassis are a real treat. I love their naan which is fresh, stretchy, and chewy. Last time I got takeout from here with a bunch of friends. Arrived around 6pm, where there were 7 other parties in the restaurant. Definitely not very busy looking, however they only had 2 people on the floor which made things go a little slower. We ordered the garlic naan, meat combo platter, and chicken vindaloo. The naan just had garlic bits rubbed on top and then cooked so it seemed a little dry to me. I like a little more oil on top, so a low calorie version I guess. The combo platter had seasoned shrimp, chicken breast and thigh, lamb, and some tiki masala like sauce on the side. It went really well with the meats and naan. YUM. The vindaloo had a lot of tomato flavor on top of it being spicy. We had to send it back the first time since it was lukewarm, and that's just rude to the curry! Service was average. The food took a while to come out, they brought out the wrong naan and proceeded to charge us (although I should have double checked the bill), had to send back the curry as it was lukewarm, and the 2 waiters kept disappearing for long periods of time so we had to wait a while to get our bill. Since the taste is great, I plan on going back for their lunch buffet which seems more worth thr money than dinner. read more

This was my favorite Indian restaurant prior to today, it's one of the worst Indian restaurant in Oregon now! Very poor customer service I even had to pour my own water MYSELF. All the cups on the table were empty and the waitress never bothered to come around at all to notice and fill them. Had to look around to find my own utensils because they were short. The chicken pictured was old and extremely dry and had a weird aftertaste !! After finally getting ahold of the waitress we told her about the chicken ( we had ordered two ) and still got charged for both! Unbelievably unprofessional. I love this place. I even took catering of the lamb samosa to my brothers wedding it is so good, get the mint dip with it! Any biryani is my craving plus the scrumptious buffet. It's really the only Indian Restaurant I go to and I lived over in Asia for a bit, plus Europe so I have had some of the best of Indian food and this rates right up there! The owner of Swagath has obviously been doing a lot of remodel and it looks great!!! No more dirty old carpet. Instead a nice, clean, dark hardwood floor. Ok it's probably pergo, but nonetheless it's 100% better than that old green carpet. He has also updated the bathrooms with new stone counters and new toilet paper holders, etc. He also replaced some of the old material/cloth in the booths. He also added a new wine cooler and some pretty cabinets under the buffet line. Lots of other little improvements. Finally and thank goodness! It's about time! The food is still delicious! Love, love, love the food. Still missing our two favorite servers - Jasmine and Greg. Hate to go back and not see them. It's not the same without them. I have had the lunch buffet here a couple of times, and dinner a couple of times. I wasn't totally bowled over. I like Abirrucchi ( ok, I can't spell it but I still like it) a lot better. I like the service there better as well. The sag paneer ( my favorite ) is just okay here. The naan is okay too. It's adequate. Given that, I think it's a little overpriced and kinda stuffy. I like my Indian to be more kicked back. I feel like Swagat is the little Indian restaurant that could. Although their food is OK, there are other items about these locations that seem a bit off. I will start by saying that I like this location MUCH better than the one off Canyon Rd. It is newer, the lunch buffet in my opinion tasted better, and was overall presented better. For $9.95 it's an endless array of curries, paneer, tandoori chicken, naan, etc. I left yesterday feeling very full and satisfied. Plus, at this location they are constantly putting out new, hot food. However, I cannot give it more than 3 stars. Minus one star for a very un-attentive staff. The rassam had a good amount of kick to it as well. Really love coming here for there lunch buffets. But yesterday a couple of there foods were different. The Veggie Pakoras were kind of like fritters. Usually they're just crispy fried veggies, which is what we're used to. Also the mango custard seemed thicker and usually has some cut up fruits mixed into it. Both weren't bad at all, just different. The one thing that bothered my wife and I on the last visit, was when one of the employees was pouring water into our glasses. I have this pet-peeve for when people cough or sneeze. I don't care if you covered your mouth/nose, just don't do it in my direction. Well, he ended up sneezing over our table, TWICE. The first one he never covered his face so most likely our water got sprayed. The second time he managed to cover his mouth/nose but didn't turn away. I'm just glad that we weren't seated at the table yet. I decided to order my wife and I a couple of sodas since a lot of times the water taste like warm water anyways. Other than that incident, the dining experience is still fine. We'll continue to comeback just cause we love Indian food. read more

I go there for their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet, and have been there 3-4 times now. Each day they have an assortment of 6-8 main dishes, nan, a couple sweeter items for dessert, etc. The food has always been very good--some of the best Indian I've had. My favorites are their Chicken Makhani (chicken in a buttery sauce) and their Palak Paneer (spinach and goat cheese). They also have a good Tandoori (oven grilled or roasted) chicken which is great for less-adventurous palates like my kids. If you're new to Indian food, don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. The great part about buffets is that you can try a little bit of everything to see what you like--a lot of Indian food looks like a variety of technicolor mush, but I've found all of it to be quite tasty, especially when dipping nan (bread) in it. The food has always been fresh, and something rarely is 2/3 empty before a fresh batch is brought out. All you can eat for $10 is reasonable. Service has generally been very good (not much service needed at a buffet, really--other than keeping the water full) but used plates rarely stay at our table for longer than a minute or two before they're collected. We went there once for dinner, and I found it to be a bit over-priced, and they didn't have the buffet--so you pretty much had to order a whole plate of just one or two items--didn't really feel like eating an entire plate of Tandoori. But the lunch buffet is definitely not-to-be-missed and is what I'm using for my 4* rating. Exclude the buffet, and I'd probably be rating 3*. read more

Lunch Buffet, weekday: A 3.5 star rating rounds to 4 since I would return for the lunch buffet. There was a nice selection of vegetarian dishes and a couple meat dishes, sambar (no idli), and some desserts. The South Indian dishes did have a little heat, a 2 on a scale of 0-10. These also had good flavors. The other dishes had typical flavors albeit on the light side of seasoning. The chicken mahkani had a decent sauce but was lacking in chicken. Maybe I just hit it after a rush of diners. On the other had, the goat was quite good. The Tandoori Chicken was both cooked and moist but could have used a little more time marinating. Didn't try the naan since it did not come fresh from the tandoor and I like it best when it is less than 30 seconds from the side of the tandoor. The mango lassi was pretty good, plenty of mango flavor. The main dishes were all in individual warming urns which prevented careless cross-contamination and, except for the chicken, dishes were refilled regularly. All in all, not fantastic but respectable and not over-priced. For those living in Orenco Station, it's definitely worth the short walk. read more

Last Thursday the rice and naan were empty for some time and my water glass sat empty so I filled it myself. Today the service was awesome. Five stars all the way! I've eaten here years and keep forgetting to make review, this place is by far one of my favorites in Hillsboro! I've tried a few items but I always go back to the korma which is just sublime! Samosas are some of the best I've had. I usually go with a small party or togo, however last time I went with a larger group of about seven. Very accommodating and so fresh!!! I got the shrimp korma the last time I went and the shrimp was just cooked to perfection! Highly recommend! I also recommend going to the buffet! I was very disappointed with the sashimi, sushi and teriyaki chicken and even their dressing for the green salad. None of it was had flavor. The yellowtail sushi was the best of the three.
