I was recommended this place by a friend that would die on the hill that this is the best ice cream spot in Seattle. This is actually really freaking good that I ate here twice during my trip! I tried this place on Thursday, April 23rd and ordered the pico size of the black sesame. Nobody told me that you could actually get another flavor :( Good thing that the black sesame was awesome. No artificial flavoring and it had some salt which made it savory. The girl that was working that day looked like she hated her life... Because of service, I had to remove a star. The vibes were extremely unwelcoming. I went back again the night of April 25th with some friends and the service was way better! Got the pico size of the London Fog & Sweet Cream. So yummy. They have a limited number of creative choices but what they have is good. They are also WSDA certified. Very cute store located in an alley. This ice cream was the best I had during my brief trip in Seattle. The staff were very kind and allowed me to try multiple flavors and explained how many flavors I could get per scoop option. I ended up getting the London Fog and Capitol Coffee in pico size. It was the perfect amount of ice cream, which was refreshing compared to many stores whose smallest size ends up being comparable to my head. The ice cream itself was creamy and smooth, and the flavors of earl gray and coffee were just the right ratio of bitter to sweet. Only my 2nd time here but it's been good both times. I was here for the first time in August 2023 when the weather was warm. This ice cream hit the spot on a warm day. My most recent visit was last week (October 2024). The shop is located inside what looks like an alley. Several shops and places to grab a bit. Conveniently located just north of SU. The service has been great both times. Fast, friendly service with a smile. The shop is small and has no seating options inside. We stopped by this place since it was nearby and it was a hot day. This place is definitely smaller than the UW location and didn't have as many flavors. Also they didn't allow samples so you kinda have to just know what flavors they are. The people here are nice though and knew what is in each ice cream. She was able to explain everything clearly. The cookies are also baked onsite so it was fresh which is nice. We got the waffle brittle ice cream as well as the monster cookie. The waffle brittle cookie was still warm and soft you if you want the frubchz definitely wait until it cools down. The flavor was good, definitely on the coconut side. The ice cream was good, I did wish there was more do the waffle chunk though. Tucked away in a cute alleyway, I definitely would have missed it had it not been for seeing other people walking out with their ice cream! I got the Persian rose ice cream which I thought was very unique and the rose flavor didn't feel overwhelming like how some floral desserts can be. While the other flavors in the shop were also unique, I for some reason didn't care much for them. While the flavors were good, I felt like the ice cream felt a bit... icier? I've visited other Sweet Alchemy sites in the University District and Ballard. However, this was my first visit to the Capitol Hill/Chophouse Row site which was formerly Kurt Farm Shop (5/7/23). Scored on free street parking by Chophouse Row, I decided to have at scoop of ice cream after visiting nearby Ellliott Bay Book Company. Friendly counter person. Ordered a milli (6oz, $6.50) serving of their Darkside chocolate ice cream. I chose to sit in the courtyard with others soaking in the pleasant spring weather. Pro tips: I still have three clean pint containers in my car trunk. These can be returned to any site for a discount when future pints are purchased. Make sure to start a punch/stamp card. Also, if you're a UW Alumni Association member, show your membership card and receive a discount. I keep forgetting to do the latter two. The greater Seattle area has quite the abundant selection of indie ice cream and gelato shops. Sweet Alchemy is a worthy splurge! read more

I liked that they have a pico scoop which is just enough if you want ice cream but not enough to make you stuffed. They were out of waffle cones even though I got there 45 minutes after opening which was a bummer and also didn't make sense to me so I got a scoop of the Lemon Custard in a cup instead. I could taste the lemon but I personally like a really sharp, tart flavor so I wish there was a lot more of that. The ice cream itself was creamy, but it wasn't smooth and had a grainy texture that left a residue on the spoon. Unfortunately this whole experience fell short for me, especially for the price and portion. I feel like such a contrarian giving Sweet Alchemy 2 Stars while everyone else gushes and professes their undying love for them. With such a price tag, one would expect this famous small batch ice creamery to be stellar and ecstasy-inducing. Alas, after a couple of tries, I have yet to find that magical flavor or the texture of the ice cream to hit that mark. My biggest disappointment is texture. I've tried it served from a store, I've tried from a jar at home in varying degrees of meltiness, but I just don't find it to be creamy nor smooth. The texture is gritty. It just doesn't feel right on my tongue. Everyone raves about the London Fog, and I find it to not have much of a taste. It's supposed to be Earl Grey tea with vanilla. I only taste vanilla, none of the Earl Grey. It's a disappointing $12. I would rather spend my money on any of several other ice cream brands. The clerk at the store was very nice though. That was my favorite ice cream spot in Seattle and I didn't even get to do a farewell visit, so it stung a little to see a different ice cream shop take its place. But life moves on, and ice cream must be had. Unfortunately, no sampling allowed due to COVID-19. The nice thing is they let you split scoops into multiple flavors. We got the milli $6 (6 ounces. 2 scoops), and chose 4 flavors to try half of scoop of each. I listed them in order of my favorite to least: - Capital Coffee: A light coffee flavor. It reminded me of Haagen Daas coffee, which is my favorite. - Cookie Explosion: I normally don't go for chocolate ice creams, but this one wasn't too rich so I liked the subtle flavor. - Lemon Pie (vegan): Not too tart, so it was pretty nice. - Salted Caramel: I did not really like this one as I found it too salty. ***** My Star Ratings: 1 Star - Terrible.
