YASSS! I can officially review this place post cronut purchase. As a recent elite/yelper, I often try and keep up in the conversations in Talk to see what's new. lo and bebold, I stumbled on a conversation about Cronuts (or doissants as this place calls them). Never heard of them before this but apparently they're pretty big back east. In any case, my experience with Sweet Dozen has been nothing short of super. The first time I tried to venture for a cronut I almost missed the spot because its located in an unsuspecting shopping mall. I eventually found it and walked in to a super busy, bright yellow donut shop..it almost feels like a baby room inside (so warm! Lol) I'm pretty sure it's a mom and pop place with their daughter who handles the front of the house operations -- very sweet lady. Unfortunately on my first visit I went too late (10am) and the owners were all sold out of the infamous Cronut. Apparently it is advised to call your cronut order in 24 hours in advance so they can prep for you. Live and learn. I ordered a croissant (which was absolute heaven) and a cup of joe and went on my merry way. My second visit (today) I was prepared. I called the donut shop as soon as I got to work on Friday to pick the Cronuts up on Saturday by 8 am. I was greeted by the front of the house lady with a big smile and the box ready for me. When I got home and took a bite into the sweet, slightly crunchy goodness I almost wanted to fall over. They were that good. They really are like a croissant with the sweetness of a donut. All in all I spent $36 dollars for a dozen Cronuts. One might think that's steep (3 dollars a cronut) but they are well worth it. I am not a fan of sweets and I love these. Well done Sweet Dozen! I first heard about this place when they started following me on Instagram....and I can't turn down a good donut/ice cream donut shop! Unfortunately it's a far drive for us but after many months, we finally stopped by this morning on our way to Roseville Galleria. I can't help but compare it to its competitors that I visit quite often - Bakers Donuts and Parlor Ice Cream Puffs. Here at Sweet Dozen, their ice cream donuts are called melts, and they're all a flat $4. I ordered the cinnamon roll with green tea ice cream, banana, and cinnamon toast crunch...it was huge! I couldn't even finish it and I didn't even eat anything beforehand so that's saying something. I love that they have fresh fruit options here. Also, the place is wide open and there's plenty of space to move around, and also, free water!! The man who helped us, I assume he was the owner, was super friendly and even gave us some doissant holes to try while he made our melts. Sweet Dozen reminds me of a mix of Bakers Donut's quality of donut and Parlor's customization options. I am sadden at the fact that this donut shop is about an hour away. But, also glad it is, because you know i'll be packing on extra weight thanks to their scrumptious creations. They have the famous cronuts with all sorts of varieties (or what they call it doissants), croissant popovers with the gooey cream filling, and them ice cream filled donuts that will make any girl melt. Yummers! Aside from the exotic and fun donuts that they offer and make, let's talk about the classics. I am an old fashion snob. Not, that I am some kind of expert, but I like my old fashions made a specific way. I prefer them not to be over glazed, overly sweet (like some kind of diabetic rush), and to have that little bit of crispy texture. Sweet Dozen sure does take that hammer to the nail. PLUS, after a day or 2 the donuts aren't super stale (maybe it's my luck with them or who knows what) and still very much enjoyable. Came here for the dossaints, and I was a little too late! They had four left and that's when I knew this place was the business. They open at 5 am and by the time I came at 10 am they were sold out on a lot of what I wanted. However, that didn't deter me. So I ordered a dozen dossaint holes (that barely made it home) a dossaint, half a dozen donuts, and two lattes with almond milk. From the moment I walked in I was greeted warmly and even though I took FOREVER to decide on donut flavors they were so patient. Which I appreciate! Picking donuts flavors is harder than picking a new nail polish color. Lol. The dossaints were as amazing, as I expected. So light and fluffy and full of flavor. The donuts were fresh and honestly home made, just perfect. The latte was great as well. I honestly have no complaints about sweet dozen. I came to Sweet Dozen to grab a donut this morning (had to satisfy an intense craving). I always take forever to decide what I want because everything looks so delicious! I ended up going with the custard-filled cronut with strawberries and a coffee. So happy they were able to re-open after their kitchen fire a few weeks ago! I enjoyed my usual maple bar, and also had glazed donut holes and a cinnamon crumb. All were light and fluffy. They were out of glazed old-fashions, so my boyfriend settled for 2 chocolate ones. He didn't like the chocolate, saying it tastes different. I tried it and liked it, but maybe it's because it wasn't as sweet a chocolate that he's used to? Went to this place around 7:30 am to pick up my pre ordered Doissants the friendly owner of the store noticed that my information was never put in and couldn't find my name. I thought that this would be a problem and told her I wouldn't mind waiting but she said don't worry and quickly put my order together. Less than 5 minutes my order was ready and she even threw in a free regular donut. Loved every bite of the Doissant. Flaky, soft, fresh and perfectly made. It was my first time going to this place. However, my dad is a regular ; has been coming here since it opened. I can see why he keeps on coming back !! So far , this is the best donut shop in town that I've been to ! Very friendly, nice, and welcoming owner. I checked in and got a free donut with a purchase of a donut. People have been telling me cronuts are overrated but after having their Reese's cronut, I will tell all those people they are wrong!! That cronut was so light and flakey, yet buttery and satisfying. My friend who has said she had bad cronut experiences before even liked this one too. Their banana fritter was amazing as well; it's an awesome unique item to make their selection a bit more special. The fritter was as well made or even better than any of the other great fritters (all have been apple) I've had. Their Nutella filled donut was not very satisfying for me because of the lack of Nutella filling, but that's probably me being a Nutella freak haha. It was just a small half-dollar sized amount in the middle, and I don't really deem it worth it. Their ube cake donut was just all-right to me also, it was good but it didn't blow me away like the other ones. They also gave me a free donut! A normal berry one that was a great combination of fluffy, light but also dense enough that I'm not like "where'd my bite go?" (looking at you, Krispy Kreme glazed donuts). I usually like my donuts dennseee, and this one was the right amount of light and dense that I think would be the most versatile for all! I came across Sweet Dozen at Our Night Market in Sacramento and after hearing about this place, I wanted to see what the hype was about. The line was crazy long and there was only one person taking orders. I went with the Matcha Made with Sesame ($6) which is a sesame mochi donut (aka dochi) with green tea ice cream topped with Rice Krispies. We also got Churrochi (churro flavored dochi) and Strawberry Shortcake dochi for $3 each. By the time I finished paying, my order was ready. The mochi donuts were somewhat disappointing, to be honest. I only got a hint of the flavors, for the most part, and they weren't really warm to begin with. It would have been nice if they were warm or more fresh. The ice cream was mediocre and the Rice Krispies felt out of place. Overall, I thought everything was okay. I do want to give Sweet Dozen the benefit of the doubt and visit the actual store to try more of their items. But as of my first try, I wasn't impressed. read more
