My new favorite donut shop! My first visit was with my work partner. We ordered two donuts each, and the lady behind the counter gave the donuts for free and thanked us for what we do. We very much appreciated the gesture that a local business like Sweet Dozen supports first responders and HCW especially during this pandemic. Ever since then I've been going at least once a week. I work weekends so I usually stop by to get some mochi donuts or malasadas. The ube malasada is probably the best of the best. But on a regular day, I usually get the maple bacon (donur, bar, or cronut, depends on my mood lol). The maple is not too sweet and overpowering, and the bacon is cooked perfectly. Donuts of my dreams! Sweet Dozen is the reason I get out of bed before 10am on Saturdays to bike to the Midtown Farmers Market. I had a hankering for mochi donuts in Sacramento, and Sweet Dozen provided. They also occasionally do malasadas. I never have any idea what I'm buying (they don't have signs and I feel bad asking "what's this? What's that" for everything) but it's always good. Go to their truck early. There is always a line and they usually sell out by 11. They also have a storefront but it's too far for me to willingly go to, so the farmers market it is. read more

There's not very many places here in Sac that sells Mochi donuts, that's why I was so thrilled and excited that this place sold it. Flavorful and taste was definitely delicious, but before you head over to get some mocha donuts, it's best to call first since they always sake out fast! Only con's about the mochi donuts was that the texture. I have to admit it didn't have that soft, chewy texture that I was looking for. I was looking for a place that could make specialty donuts for my daughter's 2nd birthday. I found this donut shop and decided to call to get more info. The owner answered and he was very friendly and helpful. We decided to make a trip there to check it out on the same day. Sweet Dozen is conveniently located with plenty of easy parking. He greeted us with a big smile and welcomed our daughter with a complimentary donut! It made her morning! While we were there, a bunch of regulars stopped in for their weekly sugar fix. Discovered Sweet Dozen through a friend's instagram post and immediately I knew I had to visit for the Dochis (donut + mochi). We stopped in Saturday morning and was happy to get to try all the Dochi flavors and half a dozen more other donuts. I'm happy to say the HYPE is real, the dochis were fresh and prefect chewy texture. As for the flavors, there was a good variety from: strawberry short cake, ube with fruity pebbles, Oreo cookies, matcha sesame, and glaze. There were couple more flavors that I didn't name. Came in 2/6, morning, and got a box of mixed donuts. The man working there was very friendly, he welcomed me in and then we conversed for a while. I picked out a few of each type and brought them into my wife's work, and we all shared them. One of her coworkers used to work in a donut shop and is very picky over donut quality. My go-to are the raised donuts, so I tried a few bites of them first. Unlike other shops, his dough contained good moisture and also had a vanilla taste, which isn't typical for 99% of donuts, and it works out really, really well. To paraphrase my uncle, KING OF DONUT FLAVOR. The fruit and chocolate glazing was a little on the unsweet and thin side, but that's fine! The whole donut, together really worked out. The old-fashioned was cooked nicely, it had a crisp, but moist exterior, and wasn't oily. The filling of the other donuts mirrored his glazing; it wasn't as sweet as a lot of other donut shops, but the custard-filled had a lot of filling, and worked well as a complete donut. One flop, not necessarily a donut issue or a quality issue, was the fluffed cream cheese filling picked up some of the bacon aroma, which made it a bit meaty. But his maple-bacon bar really stood out with its well-done bacon bit coating. Overall, the owner's mentality of focusing on the donut basics really paid off. Emphasis on total flavor results in quality donuts and sets him apart from most other shops which typically focus on sweetness or oil. Classic Asian bakery grindset, no compromises. There was a surprise POT LUCK at work that I didnt know about. Sometimes we are the last to know about it. So I had to hurry and get something. I decided to get donuts and the nearest one that my YELP app brought me to was here. I thought this was just any ordinary donut shop. I just ordered an assorted and brought it back to work. Throughout the day as each of my workers took a bite. They came to me to ask where I bought them. They said its fluffy and clean. They described it as not oily or greasy. Fluffy and light. I have to agree with them. It really is nice and fluffy. Now my coworkers go to them to buy donuts. And when someone buys donuts from somewhere else, they tell them next time get it at SWEET DOZEN. Daily, I stalk their IG to see where they will be popping up on the Grid. I've stalked them on more occasions than I'd like to admit. My most recent stalking had me chasing them at the Midtown Farmer's Market on a Saturday AM for their Acai Bowl donut. I literally ran from J street through the FM looking for their truck, only to see that they've extended the FM past K street to accommodate all the cool vendors. And lo and behold, SD was at the very end. I worked up a sweat getting to the truck, only to hear that there were four of the said donuts left. I questioned everyone in line to see if I'd get my hands on this elusive donut. Thankfully, they all were kind enough to save me one. Also, they have a limit on selling them to 2 per person, phew! Needless to say, I will sweat for their donuts. I will run through and around Sacramento to find them and their latest creation! I've NEVER been disappointed by the creations they sell. They are a little pricey, but their creative genius in the kitchen is worth the pretty penny. They take CC which is also another amazing fact about their little donut slanging machine on wheels! Everything about them is what is good about Sacramento. From them being local, yet creative to not giving up on their brick and mortar, but still sharing the love via their truck -- they take the time to perfect their craft and share it with Sacramento! Oh my goodness, where do I even begin! I started following you on instagram and began scrolling through pictures of beautiful donuts. I started to feel bummed about missing first Saturday's, mango float flavored donuts, and completely forgot about the Saturday's at the Midtown Farmer's Market. That is until 2 weekends ago, I saw a long line forming which led me to the cart. I was prepared to leave but decided to put other goodies in the car then head back to take my place in line. Ohh, worth the wait and no regrets coming back for donuts, haha. I searched Instagram posts to see what was the special flavor of the day while waiting, ube s'more. I knew that was going to be one of my first requests when it was my turn to order. I looked into the display case saw the açaí and mochi donuts. All were coming home with me! It didn't matter if I could finish them, haha. I fell instantly in love! There is a Bay Area mochi place that shall remain nameless but they don't even come close! The mochi donuts were soft and chewy loved the fruity pebble toppings, the açaí was perfectly fluffy and tasted as if I was eating a bowl of açaí, and the ube s'more transported me home! The hubs, who does not have a sweet tooth, snuck a bite of the ube s'more and finished it all! He told me to order and share with the family! I started emailing Sweet Dozen and inquiring about orders. They were so kind and patient with me! The açaí and ube s'more wasn't going to be on the menu for the weekend but they said they would make them for me! Yay I was super excited! In a later email, they reminded me it was also malasadas' weekend. I felt like I won the lottery! I watched their Instagram feed, waited for instructions, and like another follower set the alarm so I could order in time! I'll be honest, I was initially hesitant because of the past reviews about the malasadas. I did not want to be disappointed especially those poor pictures of under filled malasadas. I decided to take the "risk" and form my own opinion. I was greatly rewarded, look at the picture of the ube malasada I received! This place caught my eye via Instagram and I had to check it out. I first had their mochi donut from the midtown farmer's market and I went to their actually store front to get a variety of choices. The chai donut tasted just like chai and the blueberry yeast donut was also pretty delicious. This is a more down played voo doo donuts. I wanted the mochi donut, but figured why not try their regular donuts? They're delicious! If I wasn't sooo mindful of what I am eating...i would probably get a while dozen for myself. :D The fruity donuts were fruity and tasted like fresh strawberries and blueberries with a hint of lemon. Something this is usually hard to achieve with infusing fruits to your baked goods. They were a bit crispy on the outside. Which is good :) I think my partner liked the peanut butter and chocolate since almost half of it is gone. Maybe he was getting revenge on me for eating the rest of the blue berry donut without telling him xD I just had my braces taken out and it was the first thing I ate. So good and a wonderful "celebratory" treat. My boyfriend is trying to eat better, but he had a few (BIG) bites. The workers are sweet and helpful. We were waited on by a super helpful and extremely nice young woman, named Willow. She was very welcoming & spent time telling us about all the customer & shop favorites. We took home a dozen of the delicious creations, which included: cinnamon sugar coated cinnamon rolls, strawberry shortcake, maple bacon bar, Oreo cookie, banana fritter, s'mores, chocolate chip, chocolate peanut butter & traditional glazed. Found out the night before that they only make malasadas on the first Saturday of the month! Got there the next morning just before they opened, went home with 2 dozen malasadas, plain, custard, chocolate and pineapple filled, also got a dozen mixed pastries, couldn't help myself! The blueberry cake donut is the best I've had so far, SO GOOD. Some of the special ones were underwhelming (poptart is whatever, peanut butter is whatever), but I will for SURE be coming back to try their other cake donuts and mochi donuts (only on weekends). When I am in the area I havve to stop in at Sweet Dozen. Their donuts are creative and so good.
