Regular tacos - carne asada, carnitas, and al pastor (top to bottom)
Cin-Yee S.

I had no idea until this week that the spot had such amazing tacos! I thought it was just a Mexican dessert place and ice cream shop, but then a friend told me there was also a taqueria inside. This is the best al pastor I have had in years and there is a trompo in the back, so you know it's done right The carnitas and carne asada were also flavorful, crispy, and juicy, and I will be back to try out the other meats and guisados. There were also half a dozen agua fresca flavors (I always get pineapple and mix it with cucumber mint or guava/watermelon when I see this many flavors), and the staff was busy slicing fresh fruit and scooping ice cream for the desserts. Incredible quality for the price - this is going to be my new taco spot from now on!

Best tacos I've had in a long time Sweet Mex is hands down one of the best spots around. I tried the carnitas, pollo, asada, and chorizo tacos every single one was amazing. Super flavorful, fresh, and cooked just right. It's a family owned place, and they're seriously some of the nicest people. You can tell they care about what they're doing, and it shows. Just an all around great spot definitely a neighborhood gem more people need to check out.

Sweet Mex offers a variety of snacks, desserts, and food, I ordered an Horchata Frappe and Vanilla Ice Cream. It was delicious and fairly priced. It is located next to a barbershop, yet there is still a good amount of parking. The employees were nice and friendly. The wait was not long at all. They also have a bathroom for customers. I can't wait to come back and try more items off their menu.

Raspafruta

Stopped in here for the first time. The person at the counter was super helpful explaining the menu selections. I tried a Raspafruta with coconut shaved ice, fresh mango, Chamoy & tahin. It was super yummy. I can't wait to come back and try other 'drinks'. I didn't have any food this time, but want to come back and try that too. This may be my 'go to' place this summer!

So happy this spot is on my way home. I've tried their ice cream, horchata float, arroz con leche, champuradro, and esquite. All are 5/5. I've seen plenty of people in here eating from their taqueria menu so I'm sure that's just as good. Reasonably priced too. Lots of menu options. And there's usually always a table or 2 free. The parking lot is shared with the other shops and small but I've always found parking. They always have typical Latino music playing and something on tv like news or sports. It's definitely worth a visit.

Menu

I probably ordered the wrong thing, because this seems to be mostly a dessert and drinks place. The carnitas taco I got was meh. Carnitas was Ok, but not juicy or crunchy. Tortilla was not any better than a normal taco tortilla. Ambiance was a little run down. Service was OK.

Esquite con todo

The service is top tier the front end lady I think her name was Katia , was super nice and patient with me telling me descriptions about the items I was interested it, the music and restaurant was clean and the food looked and were soo so yummy.

Delicious food, tasty street snacks, lots of ice cream, whats not to love?! All the mexican goodies are here and the al pastor is top tier. Easy to miss this place but you wont want to! Next time you are having a craving for some mexican snack foods or a tasty taco, this spot is worth the love. They have lots of options so there is something for everyone. Its a small place with only about 4 tables, front door is usually propped open and the location makes for a never ending wind tunnel/draft so wear a jacket or just be prepared.

My kids love this place! The mangolada, the huarache (no meat) and the flautas are on point. We always call in our order since it gets busy.

A hidden gem, I love their burritos but a bit pricey tbh. I usually go after filling up my water bottles next door.

Flautas are delicious! Mangonadas are also very good! The place is small but very conveniently located in Union City.

We were a family of 5 and we all ordered something different and everything was absolutely great. Cali burrito, steak fries, chicken flautas, and of course birria tacos; they were all so delicious. The atmosphere was perfect, I loved the ambient lighting and the little chandeliers they had. And the music playing was amazing I loved it so much. The interior was cozy, having the finals game on was a great add along for my husband. Unfortunately my other visit wasn't this great. The food was amazing, the birria tacos the server recommended were absolutely amazing. The birria was very flavorful and I loved the hint of cilantro in it. The burrito was also very good, but it was huge! The food was amazing, but the service was over the top! (I asked my server for his name which he gave, but I cannot remember. He had glasses and black hair.) My server greeted me almost immediately even though it was packed inside, he sat us down and guided us through the menu, giving us the most popular options to go for. He recommended the birria tacos and really knew what he was talking about! We were checked on multiple times by him and it honestly made me feel like I was at home, absolutely loved it! Despite having so many things to attend to, he made sure we were one of them. On a bit of a negative note, when I visited for the first time last week around 11, the service wasn't as good. There was a different server and he was very dismissive, almost rude. I'm glad I came by and gave it another chance. It was amazing!

The Gonzalez regular burrito is the tastiest I've ever eaten in Fremont. It is likely the best burrito in Fremont. The tortilla prep is unique and is tasty, browned, and (buttery). The carne asada was fresh, perfectly spiced, tender, a generously portioned. The pinto beans were whole, not overly cooked, and added a nice layer of flavor and texture. Spanish rice was perfectly cooked, not mushy, not bland, not too much or too salty. The spice blend, fresh leafy bits, and crunchy onion bits, set this typical burrito apart from the rest I've tasted, ever. In totality, this burrito is a multilayered flavor and texture experience. I recommend. Well done Grill Los Gonzales! Caution, the roasted chilly are experienced high level chilly eaters only.

If it's a weekday and between 10 AM and 6 PM (call to check as they sometimes close early when they sell out), go to Amelia's and try the Amelia's Taco Dorado (crunchy taco shell in a soft taco tortilla with the works of meat, guacamole, cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and her own salsa). She also has regular street tacos and Tacos Supreme (comes with guac and sour cream). Hefty portions (she doesn't skimp on the guacamole or meat) and all of her prices are listed out. Best part? Call ahead to give your order to Juan and they'll have your order ready. We've ordered ahead while a few exits away on 880 and also at the start of the Dumbarton bridge. ============================== This has been on my radar since my colleague told me about the best tacos he'd ever had in the Bay Area including al pastor sliced off a trompo, but then Tacos Grill Los Gonzalez disappeared for a while from the Apex used car lot. They're finally back so we did the long trek over to try them twice. I might come back if I happened to be in the area and saw zero people in line, but otherwise, the wait time is too long. They are not lunch time friendly as orders take a while to come out. First visit, there were two people in front of us and we ordered four tacos. It was a 28 minute wait. Second visit, two people ordered in front of us plus one person who picked up their order right as we got there. We ordered six tacos and waited 37 minutes. That is very long for a food truck. The people in front of us were getting impatient and repeatedly asking for status updates. There are no prices listed anywhere so you have to ask about each item or order off of blind trust. The trompo seems to be gone and it appears they use bulk bagged "al pastor" now, or at least it looked and tasted like what you see when taquerias order large plastic bags of pre-sliced, red-dyed meat to grill up as needed. The paper wrapper around each taco is a must because the fresh made tortillas fall apart after one bite, even if you are eating within minutes of being handed your tacos. Other options nearby are Amelia's Kitchen Taco Truck on Decoto with plenty of parking before Regan Nursery, Tacos Sin Fronteras (another food truck) a block down on the same side of Thornton and Mi Lindo Sinaloa (sit down restaurant) on the opposite side of Thornton.

I've had this place bookmarked for a year now, and I went there yesterday at 10am to get some food to go. I was greeted by a lady there. She was friendly and complimented my dress. I got a Carne Asada Taco, Al Pastor Taco, and a Gringa. I asked if they had chips and salsa, but she said they do have salsa but no chips. That's different. I've never been to a Mexican spot that didn't have chips. The place looked clean and vibrant. There were plenty of parking in the plaza. There were plenty of seating as well. Maybe it was still early so no customers were there when I was there. After waiting for about 5 mins, she brought me my bag of food. She complimented my look and bid a good day. So sweet & nice!
