2 stars due to the food. Their stuff is good. Pricey but good. However, minus 3 stars for their terrible customer service. Phone etiquette is non existent. They hardly pick up their phone for take out orders. It rings and rings and when you go in there, they have the phone off the hook. They claim that their phones are not functioning. This is 2020, is this for real? Not sure if the owners know that the young people up front are doing this. It sure has deterred me many times from placing an order because their lack of phone response. When you go in there, the customer service still lacks. In person, they are dry and almost make you feel like they're doing you a favor by attending you. With covid, you'd think this business would be trying to maintain afloat and would provide great customer service, maybe not even great but somewhat good. Had the asada burrito and some ice cream. The burrito was alright, nothing too amazing, but still pretty good, though they did forget my sour cream I asked for. Also tried a bite of the quesadilla azul. It's an interesting idea and not bad, though they load it up with a ton of sour cream and lettuce. Also tried some of the marinated pork and that was probably the best meat they had. Very juicy and well seasoned. Had the ferrero rochet ice cream and that was super good. Even if you don't get lunch there, definitely get some of their ice cream. Service was polite and friendly. Price was very good. A little noisy in there but as to be expected. I'm normally not a huge fan of the flavors from a mangonada but the one they sell here tastes pretty good. The mangos topped on top were super sweet and fresh. The line to order is a little unorganized. You just go up to the counter or the cashier and someone will take your order. But there's no formal line and it could get confusing when it's crowded. Usually when a place does two different things (taqueria, desserts) you'd think they are only good at one or average at both. Not so! The desserts at Sweet Mex are also equally awesome (and fun!). They've got unique ice cream flavors (like Mamey) and the standards, but more importantly for me is they were willing to make a frappe out of pretty much everything. Fererro Roche ice cream, plus banana, plus chocolate as a shake? Don't mind if I do! I literally live a few blocks away and drive by this spot all the time, but I finally decided to give this place a try because it was hot and their desserts looked so good. Right when I walked in, there plenty of different desserts like Mangonadas, Strawberry Con Frescas, Fruit Cups, and unique flavored ice cream like Ferrero Rocher. I ordered the Mangonada ($6) which typically has 3 scoops of mango sorbet, a handful of chopped mangos, tamarind sauce, tajin, and a straw wrapped in a spicy tamarind candy. (You can request to have 3 different flavors of sorbet like strawberry, lime, watermelon, pineapple, etc if you prefer.) Once I mixed it all and took that first scoop I was hooked!
