Wow! This place is very close to my home but heard about it from someone from Fremont. Food is great!! Love their dessert options! Staff is super friendly and prices are very affordable. They have a vast selection of gelatos! My favorite are guava (seasonal) and ferrero rocher ice cream. Been craving a mangonada for awhile now searched up some places around the area and this was at the top of the list. Decided to drop by around noon before heading to work and it wasn't busy at all there was 1 other person before me. The ladies working were very nice and greeted me when I came in. I come here occasionally when I want to grab some quick Mexican food. My recent visit was extremely disappointing. The old lady working the front didn't know what she was doing at all, her customer service was very ignorant. I ordered what I always get and she told me I couldn't get a plain chicken tinga taco for my son even though the young workers always easily substitute it for me instead of the thick chopped up cubes of chicken. I insisted I always order that and have never been told otherwise that I couldn't get it. I made it clear to her and she said that it was fine and she'd do it. After I was done paying she told me it would be a 40 minute wait.. how absurd when there wasn't a lot of customers. I knew she was lying, my food came out in no more than 10 minutes. She still put down regular cubed chicken I told the cook that's not what I ordered, so he asked her and she lied straight to both of our faces and insisted I never asked for chicken tinga... that really pissed me off. She played dumb and lied like a pendeja! This place has good food and potential but the customer service is terrible!!! read more

Tried out SweetMex Neveria Mexicana in Union City. It's in the strip mall on the same side as Taco Bell on Alvarado Niles Rd. They have a small parking lot, but I was walking over from UC Bart. I got the Mangonada $5.75, with tax it was $5.83 I think. I paid Cash, but they take credit cards. It was 2 scoops of ice cream - I picked mango & pineapple, and he added tamarindo, and the tamarindo straw, lots of crunchy mangoes. I liked it ok. He let me try lots of flavors - next time I'll just stick with the ice cream. Prices are $2-$5 depending on the size you want. Lots of other Mexican desserts! I was craving a mangonada so I came here to see how good it was. It was delicious. It was exactly what I wanted and the fresh mangoes were perfectly ripe. The Tajin spice level balanced out the sweetness of the mangoes. I saw that they had elotes as well so how could I pass that up? They have two different preparations: the classic way (on a stick) or in a cup. The prices here aren't too bad. On a hot day, this place hits the spot. Total hole in the wall dessert place that has a bunch of unique ice cream flavors like mazapan and traditional Mexican drinks like mangonada. I opted for the pistachio ice cream, which was really tasty and had a bunch of pistachio nuts inside. It didn't feel overly artificial even though it was a bright green color. Loved the water based sherbets and the fact they were made there. Also, when we were served the owner threw out the watermelon because it wasn't fresh when she cut it. My new favorite taqueria! I've been coming here for years for their mango and elite but with the new addition of the taqueria, it's the ultimate place to eat. Been coming here once a week, recently got FOOD POISONING from the Asada Burrito here. The Burrito tasted weird this time, I didn't think anything of it at first but then I went to sleep because that's what I had for dinner and I wake up with my stomach hurting really bad, like someone was punching me in my stomach! Picked up some ice cream last night. We sampled a few flavors and most of them were really good. We settled on the dry fruits ice cream. Although we ordered the small size cup (2.50) the serving was 2 huge scoops, very generous. The lady who helped us out was also very nice. The ice cream was lovely and had an assortment of dry fruits and nuts. We also tried the mangonada based on previous Yelp reviews, but I did not like that as much as the regular ice creams. One of my sisters friends mentioned to her that they had Ferrero Rocher flavored ice cream and that is the only reason why I came here. Anyone who really knows me knows that I LOVE hazelnut desserts so I had to give this one a try. It was delicious! Creamy and you can really taste the chocolate hazelnut and pieces of the candy. Mangonada is EVERYTHING pleasing to my palette- salty, sweet and sour all in one large cup! I'm not at all familiar with Mexican desserts, and I've never seen or heard of a mangonada before. Yelping around for what's good while visiting friends who live in the area, I discovered the mangonada and had to make it MINE. I am glad I had my first experience with Sweetmex! Upon arrival, I was pleased to find the place all neat and tidy. I also observed excellent sanitation practices from behind the counter as I watched the guy change gloves between tasks. Like, WOW, that is AWESOME. The little things DO count in my book. But I was even more pleased when I was told that I get three scoops of ice cream/sorbet in my large sized mangonada! Hell YES! There were exactly three flavors of sorbet I wanted to try- The limon, strawberry, and mango and they were all deliciously smooth and refreshing, and all three flavors worked well together with the fresh mango and the tamarindo sauce thingy. I ate the entire thing in about 15 minutes without feeling disgustingly full and guilty. And honestly, I may have been able to put away another large size if the hubby's friends weren't around to see me be such a pig. Oh well... there will be a next time =) read more

I'm a big flavor critic when it comes to Mexican food. Beans were good, nice consistency. Rice was tasty and cooked well. Meat was very flavorful, I enjoyed it all very much. Will definitely be eating here again. Only sad thing was that they were out of Elotes, which was one of the main reasons I went. Finally got the chance to try this place near our parents house. It's been sitting there for quite awhile, which is very rare since not many businesses last very long there. The service was extremely friendly; the workers were kind enough to answer our questions and helped us pick out what to order. For first-timers or those who don't read Spanish, the menu will not make sense. The menu items in Spanish do not contain any description or pictures, so we found ourselves spending at least 5 minutes asking questions. To all first-timers, stick with mangonada. It's pretty dang good and not spicy at all. I stuck with the mangonada (mango sherbet with some sour tamarind sauce topped with mangos and sprinkled with taijin... oh and a straw coated in tamarind candy). For $5 you get a hefty dessert enough to fill 2+ individuals. The mango sherbet was so good... sweet and refreshing. The mangos were not ripe thus very sour. The sauce was way too sour, we thought the mangonadas could tone down on the sour a bit. A couple of people who are very sensitive to spice thought the dessert was not spicy at all. Thus, don't be afraid to try it even if you're sensitive to spice! 2 scoops of ice cream is only $2. We will be frequenting this place more often as the weather starts warming up! read more
