I ordered "Spicy" Eggplant with tofu. It wasn't. Wasn't asked what level of heat I wanted, so I called back and said that we liked a bit of heat. I was given a pack of Sriracha sauce. It was not "spicy" at all- even with Sriracha. The sauce was a pool of oil. Quite awful. There was lots of eggplant cooked well and the vegetables were OK, but the oiliness and lack of any discernable heat ruined it. No one orders dishes with "spicy" in the name for it to be all oil and no heat. It's supposed to have Thai basil. I found a few tiny springs. Blech. read more

One of the best spots in town to grab soup, especially on a cold day. I personally love getting the chicken pho. Broth is clean, and they use higher quality ingredients than most pho places around. Portions are generous, and I always leave feeling stuffed. The garlic noodles (not pictured) are also a great staple dish here, highly recommend. Servers are pretty attentive, I always receive the best service even when I'm in a hurry. Ambiance is good. I prefer their booth seating over sitting in their metal chairs. First time try Sweet Rice and Food was great! We tried drunken noodles with beef and had great flavors. Just the right amount of garlic and spices mot over powering. We also had the fried rice w/shrimp also well seasoned and rice was fluffy. For dessert we tried the mango sticky rice and it was a great way to end our meal! We just ordered from Sweet Rice Kitchen last night. We don't order out a lot but when we do it's Thai food. We are in NP so it's usually from two different places there. We decided to try something different and oh my gosh it was soooo yummy. We got Pad Thai. Delicious. Then we also had the Pad See Ew. The quality of the beef was so so good. Other places don't compare. Then we had the green curry. Which is always my favorite and didn't disappoint, also the amount of food with each other was much more than other Thai places around. And allllll the meat in all the dishes was such good quality. And we also go egg rolls. I'm not a big fan of egg rolls anyways and I wouldn't order these again. I stopped here for lunch while on a phone call with my mom. The restaurant was nearly empty so it didn't seem like a big deal that I was speaking quietly to my phone during half of my meal. Staff helped me out right away and my food came out pretty promptly. I got a noodle bowl with shrimp and everything was fresh and delicious. The main downside for me was the peanut sauce was a little spicy. It won't be a big deal for most, but it will probably mean I won't return as it's not something I enjoy (either spicy or eating it without sauce). The only other thing that bugged me was another pair of customers came in and brought their dog in with them and no one cared. My understanding is non-service dogs (this wasn't a service dog) are not allowed in indoor dining areas. It wasn't causing much of a fuss but I didn't feel great about the health safety implications. So, food is good if you're fine with a little spiciness. You might even be okay bringing your pets in here... Give it a try if these things appeal to you. read more

I tried Sweet Rice for the first time recently and had a very poor experience, which is a shame because I think the food tasted pretty good. The biggest and most egregious issue was around food safety and quality control. I ordered Pho and after several spoonful's of the delicious broth, I found a very long black hair that was intertwined within the food in my soup. I don't have long black hair, so it wasn't from me, and it doesn't seem like it just "fell" in given that it was so integrated and intertwined with the soup. My server had long black hair... The second issue was around service, or lack thereof. When I came in, it wasn't very busy. Half the tables were empty. There was no wait, no line, etc. But I felt neglected. Service was slow, I had to ask for a table, it took a while for someone to take my order, and 20+ minutes to get my Pho. Not once did anyone check in with me to see how my food was or if I needed anything. When I was ready to leave, I ended up getting up and going to the register to pay because no one came by to give me my check or checked in with me so I could ask for it. I would have mentioned the long black hair in my food (and showed it to them) but the opportunity never came. When I was paying for my meal, they did not ask how my food was. I would have mentioned the long black hair I found in my Pho but I figured if they weren't looking for feedback, why should I? I paid, left a small tip, and left. Maybe I should have made a big deal of it, maybe I should have asked for a new one to be made, maybe I shouldn't have tipped, but I was hungry, tired, and not willing to get into any arguments. This spot is solid for comfort Asian food and the decor and staff are also great. A good all around restaurant for sure and I've enjoyed a few meals here and plan to keep coming back. The interior is super cute and I like the decor. It's cozy and comfortable. I appreciate that the booths and tables are Spaciously spread out so that you aren't sitting on top of each other. The location is a little strange in the Janns marketplace and since I've been here a few times I know how to find them but if you don't come here often it can be a little bit of a mission to find your food destinations. The restaurants that are hidden in the inside area like Ot Bistro seem to come and go, it's hard to get foot traffic and you can't see them from the main drag so unless you know about these restaurants it's easy to be missed. I'm happy to see that despite the location Ot continues to be successful. The staff here are always nice and welcoming. They run a tight ship making sure staff are taking care of the dine in customers and also they get a lot of to go and DoorDash orders here from what I've seen. They stay busy and I like coming closer to opening to beat some of the rush. The prices are average. I paid $30 for a garlic noodle bowl and a lemonade. My noodles I opted for a ribeye protein so naturally it would be a little more on the pricey side. No complaints here as you can opt for Pho or a rice bowl with a cheaper protein to keep the cost down. The food is always pretty good and I've had a few items here now that I have a good sense. The egg rolls starter are a classic and I keep finding myself back to their garlic noodles. They are tasty and comforting. The reason for the docked star is today when I came I ordered my steak medium rare (I even could have gone rare) and unfortunately the steak came out medium well. My guess is she heard me incorrectly and wrote down the wrong temperature. That's my hope and that they wouldn't have passed an almost well done steak as medium rare...I debated sending it back but I didn't want to be a pain and needed to get in and out. The good news is despite the meat not being cooked to my temperature I will say it was still super tasty and flavorful! Yes, medium rare would have been better but the sauce/marinade is mild but flavorful too. Also the meat had a nice little char on it which gave it good texture. The presentation of the dish was a 5/5 and the noodles are bomb. All in all I love that this is a woman owned business and they do a really good job here. I like this spot and it's nice to come for a casual meal. Lychee lemonade was on point and truly they are serving up good food and the staff are nice. I'll continue to support this business and am happy we have a spot like this in Thousand Oaks. So happy to see the locals like it and keep this business thriving. read more

I was craving Pho and wanted to try a new place other than Thousand Wok. I was pleasantly surprised that this place was cute and the service was great. Everything I ate here was good and tasted fresh. The brisket had so much fat on it that I had to discard it but the broth, noodles, and greens were tasty. My hubby got the ribeye pho and that was a better option because there was no fat, llean pieces only. Overall it was good. Finally, a great pho spot in Thousand Oaks! I was so excited to find this gem tucked away in Janss Marketplace. My friends and I came for dinner on a Sunday night and surprisingly we were the only ones dining. A woman who I assume to be the owner took our order and was so sweet. I got the Pho Combo and really enjoyed it. While I've definitely had more flavorful broths elsewhere, I really enjoyed the pho. The servings were very generous, and they offer free noodle refills.
