Finally made it to Sweet Wheat! Line was long but moved pretty quickly. My first time was a bit overwhelming with all the choices available but I think I did pretty well with my selections. Iberico sandwich, prosciutto and burrata pizza, tiramisu and some other fabulous desserts that I don't recall the name. Everything was delicious and beautiful too. I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy a croissant or baguette. I did get a small loaf of bread and some French butter that proved to be an amazing combination. Highly, highly recommend this place. We stopped in again for the lunch comb, seating outside for the first time with our little puppy, it was very pleasant and enjoyable. I had the chicken sandwich, huge chocolate cookie, and a mocha, my wife had salmon salad, eclair, and a specialty white peach drink, we both enjoyed immensely. Went on a field trip to this place after reading such good reviews. I had high hopes for another hit for my croissant list but it was a little undercooked and doughy (I know this because I have been guilty of undercooking a croissant). So minus a star for that. All that aside, I have to say this place offers a really great lunch special. Sandwich, choice of dessert (as long as the tag says TRIO) and a drink. I thought the dessert option would be a tiny croissant or something but I was able to get a chocolate mousse cup and my partner got an eclair. I have never been a fan of eclairs, but I think all this time I've just had bad choux. The one I got here was pretty good and now I'm back on board. All in all this place is pretty good and they do not skimp on portions. SO MANY PASTRIES. When I walked in, I was stunned by how wide the variety was. The selection alone is incredible. We got the iberico sandwich, Mediterranean coppa sandwich, prosciutto and fig sandwich, and prosciutto burrata pizza fougasse. During recent overseas visitors' stay, I came here twice to pick up dessert and to have lunch. We all enjoyed both times. The dessert included Crème Brûlée, Mille-feuille, Panna cotta, and tartes. They were neither too sweet or too big, which I tend to see at other places. I actually went back there few days later to buy another piece of Crème Brûlée. ;) We also enjoyed lunch. Great local bakery that I've frequented several times now. Croissants are quite airy with nice lamination, though still a notch or two below Krust's. Cookies and variety of macarons are also tasty and most recently, our buche de noel in both chocolate and hazelnut were very well-received. I am so happy that this place is fairly nearby! There's street parking & a small parking lot in the back. Parking is free! The displays are full of so many options! My go-to favorites are the Lemon Meringue Tartlet, Pain aux Raisins, and Pain aux Chocolate. I get those in the smaller size. I have tried other items which I liked, but I didn't desire to choose them again. I love Cannelés, but the last one was on the darker side and maybe overcooked. I wasn't a fan of it. What makes me happy is that they offer minis of some of their pastries! I like small things, and eating a mini makes the guilty pleasure more pleasurable and me feeling a lot less guilty! Plus, I don't need to cut a pastry in half! They also serve savory items like loaves of bread, sandwiches, charcuterie boards, soups, salads, pastas, & pizzas. They sell a plethora of other things like wines, candies, and cookies as well! I enjoyed their Quiche Lorraine once! I've thought about getting a Croque Monsieur or Ham & Cheese Friand, so maybe one day! I have to pace coming here because all the goodies add up quickly and put a slight dent in the wallet! What a beautiful case of tasty eats! The display case is full of delicate pastries, cookies, sandwiches and other delicious treats. Being my first time here, I was a bit overwhelmed because everything looked so delicious! I ended up getting two types of macaroons, mini croissants, a pumpkin tartlet and quiche Lorraine. We were in the area and in the mood for some pastries and sandwiches. The display of pastries is so nice, it'll definitely get your appetite going! I tried the baguette which was soft and crunchy, but the outside wasn't not too crunchy if you know what I mean. The Iberico sandwich is really good, it uses the same baguette. i really liked Sweet Wheat when it first opened, but the last few times i've been there recently, i've been so disappointed in some things. for one, they changed the design of my favorite pastry, the Kouign Aman. before, it was a really dense single spiral, think cinnamon roll style, but now they make it as two semi-hollow spirals laid flat side by side, so it has less layers and less dough, but is still just as expensive. big bummer to me. secondly, i ordered a matcha latte and i'm not joking..it literally had NO discernible matcha in it. it was literally white. straight milk. i'll attach the picture. my thought was that a place that values care and craft in their bread would apply the same standard to their drinks, especially something as iconic as a matcha latte, but i guess not. it's not all bad though. they do have some really good items, but they seem hit-or-miss. the regular bread is really good though. and service is always really nice. but for the price and what i mentioned before, i probably won't go back. :/ read more

The good: I've passed by this place many times and was never curious because I imagined it was a sandwich or Panera-like place but was so pleasantly surprised when I was wrong and discovered it was a French bakery! I was so excited to see a French bakery that sold items like canele and tropezienne cake. I was also excited to see they offered delivery to my area! I ordered caneles, madeleines, pan au chocolate, chouquette, almond croissant and a Black Forest cake for 6-8. I loved their selection of tarts and cakes and couldn't decide on which one to get. I love the natural colors and flavors. My mom makes caneles so she's very picky about which she likes but she approved of the ones here! They aren't as rummy as my mom's but the coloring, texture and flavor were still great. My mom's friends and I were big fans of the morello cherries soaked in kirsch on the Black Forest cake. They didn't skimp on the number of cherries and the alcohol is definitely prominent. I loved seeing the specks of vanilla bean in the cream for this cake. If served more like 15 people for us rather than 6-8. The chơuquette was airy with a nice semi crunch from the sugar on the outside. I'll 100% be coming back again for more cakes and pastries. The bad: I paid an extra $5 for a chocolate bear that said happy birthday but didn't get it. I wish the Black Forest cake had more of the chocolate cake component. It was really cool how the cake part was shaped like an outer tart and how it was filled with the vanilla cream inside but there was a lot of cream and not enough cake. Credit cards accepted. They have oat milk available. The employee highly recommended the hazelnut chocolate chip cookie, and it was a good option if you're looking for something really sweet. The chocolate tart with caramel macaron was less sweet, and I particularly liked the macaron for its delicate texture. I got the hot chocolate with whole milk (because why not) and it was very warm and filling on the drizzly day we went. The employees were super friendly. The only minor downside for me was the earl gray tea that did not smell like earl gray until the tea for cold. Sweet Wheat has changed and not or the better, I'm afraid. We are disappointed that a previously, reliably delicious patisserie has made a lot of negative choices with the products. The quiche was strange. Very dark, sunk in and it had a rubbery texture. Gone was the custard-like filling we had enjoyed in the past. The once yummy almond croissant was unrecognizable. The pastry was tough and the entire thing tasted lifeless. Like not a pinch of salt had been used but rather only dull sugar with no almond flavor. The kouign-amann, our previous favorite, had been swapped out for something unrecognizable. And finally, we tried their chocolate twist. It was supposed to be "laminated pastry" filled with chocolate and custard cream. In reality, it was tough dough filled with absolutely nothing. It was empty. I'd rather a top-notch place raise prices to keep their quality than put out inferior food. We will miss the good stuff they used to make. read more

Pretty good lunch spot. Decent albeit premade everything. The cookie was good. Things I didn't like were the queuing process and line management. Most everything is grab and plate for the staff but the speed with which they handle things is kinda slow or out of sync. I don't know why I had never gone into this restaurant until my family from a neighboring town dropped in. I like that there are mini croissants, because sometimes you don't want to commit to a whole croissant when there are other yummy treats. Caneles are one of the items I always get, and they do them well here (chewy exterior, custardy interior). I have gotten baked goods from here a number of times and the pastries are good, but overpriced. My favorite of the ones I have tried is the lemon meringue. Service was really poor when I came in this morning. I ordered number of baked goods including a chocolate caramel macaron tartlette and they did not put a macaron on it. When I got home to find this, I called the store the woman who answered the phone said that they didn't have the macarons so they weren't putting it on but the dish still had salted caramel. She was not apologetic at all and seemed to be in a bad mood. If your store is out of something that is needed for a certain pastry, you need to disclose it to the customer before they select it and pay for it. If I ordered a raspberry tartlette and they didn't have raspberries then I would expect them to tell me they didn't have raspberries before just putting it in my box and charging me and me finding out at home. At that point I could decide if I even wanted it at all. Especially when part of the pricing of this baked good reflects the fact that there is a macaron on top! read more
