When Kirari West Bake Shop (refer to Review #290) opened sister bakery, Confections by Kirari West, a couple of years ago, I bookmarked them for a visit but didn't get around to it until I saw them on 2026 DineLA. The confections bakery also sits in King Harbor Plaza, but south of its sister between Glaze Craze & King Harbor Spa, serving all-day breakfast, burger, sandwiches, & pizzas with teas, coffees, & smoothies. According to Andrew, KWBS bakes bread for CBKW & CBKW bakes treats & doughnuts for KWBS. Still not quite understanding the difference because KWBS also serves breakfast but in sandwiches & french toasts, & paninis, sandwiches, & salads. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Initially focused solely on baked goods: artisan breads, scones, & Bake-At-Home gluten-free flour mixes, CBKW has evolved their menu to include sandwiches, pizza, quinoa bowls, & smoothies. The DineLA menu offered 3 options, & I deliberated between pancakes & chicken burger. I chose the Blueberry Cinnamon Pancakes because they looked fluffy & divine in the owner pic; it includes 2 Bacon Strips & 2 Eggs (cooked sunny-side up). And picked an Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte with less ice for my drink. It was quiet for an early lunch, & a couple of ladies walked in after I finished ordering. The bakery cafe has its cozy charm with a lovely black & white mural on the right long wall that's great for selfies or social posts. There's 4 2-tops & counter seating facing the plaza/parking lot, no restroom (assuming sister KWBS will let you use theirs), & plenty of parking though it'll be challenging during lunch & dinner rush with so many eateries in the plaza. Andrew makes an awesomely refreshing Strawberry Matcha Latte that rivals those from boba shops! Balanced sweetness with earthy, grassy matcha & generous dollops of real, sweet strawberry purée... soooooo good! Though smaller & a bit pricier than boba shops, it's a top-notch drink. My pancakes came shortly after; smells great but looks nothing like the pic, not fluffy, not golden. I love eating pancakes no matter the time of day, & these Blueberry Cinnamon Pancakes had comforting notes of cinnamony warmth with random sweet bursts of blueberries. The texture is notably moist & airy, & not reminiscent of typical gluten-free foods which are dry & dense. Typical bacon & eggs, nothing unusual... I prefer thick cut bacon & on the crisper side, but the eggs were perfectly cooked, the whites were set with a runny yolk & crisp, brown edges. It was just enough to satisfy my hunger & quench my thirst. I'm lucky that I don't have any food allergies or restrictions. People with celiac disease require a gluten-free diet, & cooking/baking challenges stem from the lack of gluten for moisture, elasticity, & structure. Customers should know that Confections by Kirari West is a dedicated gluten-free bakery, so there's no worries of cross-contamination. I don't know how Chef Hiro Saito creates this tasty, gluten-free deliciousness here & KWBS... he uses high quality rice flour instead of wheat to create his delectable pastries. On 07/2025, CBKW along with sister KWBS were both designated as a Blue Zones Project Approved Restaurant. This means they're certified to offer healthier, longevity-focused menu options based on plant-slant & whole-food principles like those in Okinawa, Japan or Sardinia, Italy. I love anything sweet, especially doughnuts. I feel like I have more of a sweet tooth now than I did before and eat way too many sugary goodies. I went by this place and was thinking if it was any good. Then, I saw that they were gluten free. I'm not gluten free but I do like that's an option. It makes me feel less guilty consuming it. Dine LA is back in town and Confections by Kirari West was my first stop. They have a $15 breakfast for the next two weeks. Had their cinnamon blueberry pancakes with eggs, bacon, and a side of potatoes ($5 addendum). For the dine LA promotion this month, you essentially get your latte comped. While their food is gluten free, I felt like I wasn't missing any flavor. There was nice blueberry flavor to the pancake, which had nice texture that emphasizes the "cake" in pancake. The potatoes were lightly flavored with rosemary. Eggs served to my preference. Overall, I think that this $15 breakfast was a pretty good option for Dine LA, which you can take advantage of for the rest of August! read more

I found it interesting that Kirari West had two of their outlets located literally super close one to another. Indeed what's served was pretty different, but standing in front of one would let you see another LOL. Good thing for me it meant I could visit both at the same time. Confections by Kirari West came as solutions for those seeking for gluten-free treats and they did accept big-batch orders as well. They're seemed to be known for their cookies and doughnuts, and it's great that they occasionally offered different samples to try. I went for their Matcha and Butterscotch Miso as the prior was said to be one of the favorite while the latter was just me being biased to any sweet treats featuring miso per my experience they mostly turned out impressive. I wasn't on gluten-free diet, but I was just intrigued to give it a try. Hence disclaimer, my comparison prolly wasn't apple-to-apple, but yeah I would doubtlessly still compared it to any other cookie. TBH the texture prolly wasn't my favorite as it's more cakey than gooey. The Matcha one had quite bold flavor, but I could barely taste the miso in the Butterscotch Miso. I had both for to-go, but they did provide dine-in space and even offered freshly-made-to-order dishes. If I would ever come back, prolly those were the ones I would try. read more

They offer both desserts and smoothies/juices. Service was quick and friendly, The drinks are made to order and have a great menu of ingredients. The desserts were beautiful -- especially the donuts. They begin at $4.50 a donut. While they have options for soy-free, nut-free, gluten free, I would love to see some more dairy-free options too! They have 2 tables outside for seating. Their desserts may be on the pricey side, but based on the blueberry lemon donut, it is worth it. read more

Food was very good. Space was not what I expected. It's located in a plaza, so plenty of parking available. There are only a few tables - some inside and some outside. We opted to eat there, food came out in paper plates. Not quite a "full service" experience but that's fine. Staff was friendly. Got a veggie waffle egg melt (not pictured), apple donut (not pictured) and a bakers breakfast plate with blueberry pancakes, eggs and bacon. Cold brew coffee was also good! read more

My kid said she wants to eat a fluffy pancake so I looked it up in Yelp and realized it's very hard to find one but I did which was here. Look at the pic, this is what I saw. I drove over 20 min to get there and was shocked at what came out. It was so different from their picture. My daughter was so disappointed we asked for a box and left without eating it. McDonald's pancake was better considering how expensive this place is. Since we drove all the way we went to the Kirari across from this place which has nice pastries. I asked if they are related and the cashier told us it's the same owner. I told him the fluffy pancake was so flat and showed him the picture. He didn't say much. After we sat and started eating I posted this on FB. My back was facing the cashier so I guess he saw my screen, he came up to me and offered a pastry to pick. I have tried the matcha cookie and miso cookie and the matcha one was really good while the miso one wasn't great. their strawberry matcha latte is to die for though!!! it's perfectly sweet and I love the real strawberry purée at the bottom. service is okay, the folks who work there aren't very personable in my experience but it's okay, I don't usually sit down in there. read more

Confections by Kiari West should've been named Confections by Kiari Across the other side of the parking lot.  It's sister shop is just across the way but unlike Confections by Kiari West which specializes in cookies they do pastries and sandwiches. I came to Confections by Kiari West in search of the perfect Oatmeal Raisin Cookie. I just had one of those cravings. With an itch that's gotta be scratched, I walked into this cookie shop and got myself 1 oatmeal raisin cookie. Why just 1 cookie? Well, at 4 bucks a cookie I could only buy one without breaking my piggy bank. How did such working class cookie get so dang bougie expensive? The cookie was good. The right amount of chewiness but a little light on the raisins and a tad too sweet.  Nothing made it worth 4 bucks, though. My search goes on.  Next time? Yeah I'll go back after I save my pennies and buy one of their chocolate cookies. read more

I am not gluten intolerant but my mom is allergic to wheat so we frequent confections when she's craving pancakes. I usually don't like gluten free food but I have NO complaints at all about the pancakes, pizza, or sandwiches. All of them are delicious and made fresh to order, you can even add blueberries or chocolate to your pancakes, I recommend the blueberries. The staff is pretty nice and their rewards point system adds up pretty quickly. read more

I've always wanted to try this as it's the breakfast and lunch venue of the nearby Kirari West bakery. The menu is fun and not too challenging with more traditional American or French styled choices. The angle is the gluten free options but the taste to me is an only a bit lighter and my kid definitely couldn't tell. The interior is beautifully set with a clean modern beach vibe. The people at the service counter are perfectly nice. I would call this more of a casual family setting or a grab and go spot. It has some cheaper items in addition to the waffles and pizza which makes it pretty handy for a pit stop. read more

The good: This is my confession: I like confections. I got 6 cookies delivered from here for my birthday. What a treat they were! I am normally not a huge cookie fan compared with cake but my family and I devoured these in a day. I tried the lemon poppyseed, oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, confetti (birthday cake?), matcha and chocolate. My favorites were the lemon poppyseed and oatmeal raisin. I liked the variety of flavor options and the packaging. This is a great option for potlucks or gifts. They sit well overnight and are great heated up in the microwave. I'd like to try the banana dark chocolate cookie next time. The bad: I would've enjoyed them more if they were just a tad chewier. The interesting: They also sell teas, ice creams and waffles. After 3 visits, now most of the tasty treats here have gone into my tummy at one point or another. Big fan of the Belgian Dark Chocolate Chunk with Walnuts. Also very much like the Butterscotch Miso and the Oatmeal & Run Raisin. Cannot get past the taste and texture of the vegan cookies. No matter what you dress it up as, they're using margarine. For my husband's birthday every year, I organize a chocolate tour. This year, we started our tour here with the chocolate chip pancakes. As this is our 10th annual chocolate tour, we've sampled quite a few chocolate chip pancakes over the years. My husband and I both agreed that these are our favorite so far! everything is of good quality here, which comes as no surprise for a kirari location. i'm so grateful that it fills in some of the blanks for GF options in the south bay that the kirari in the same location isn't able to provide. however, i do wish it stuck to what made it unique a little more; their waffles were my absolute favorite menu item (the veggie egg melt and apple butterscotch were to die for). now, however, waffles are replaced instead by a lot of menu items brought over from the portland location (high-quality items i'm sure, but bowls and smoothies aren't as rare for GF ppl to be able to find; it was nice to have an option that felt really hard to find elsewhere. the closest place i can think of with celiac-safe waffles is near san luis obispo), and they also have a few items from kirari just across the way. they still have their pancakes, but is it possible they've gotten even bigger over the years? they're quite yummy, but so giant that i probably wouldn't order again unless i planned on sharing with at least one other person. especially as a vegetarian, i would prefer kirari across the way instead of this one if going for breakfast, but confections still has a lot of my favorites: i love the cookies (lemon, butterscotch miso, and red velvet especially); their pizza is amazing; and their drinks are yummy too! haven't tried the jackfruit sandwich here, but i did at their other location and was quite impressed. all in all, i think very highly of this establishment; it just makes me a little disappointed that i once had even more love for it read more

Wow! They have totally cracked the code on gluten-free cookies! My wife is not able to eat gluten, so she is always on the lookout for alternatives to favorite foods that would otherwise contain gluten. I, on the other hand, can and do eat gluten and just about anything else. When we find a gluten-free option that impresses me to the point that I would have never guessed it was gluten-free, it is pretty remarkable! The cookies at Confections by Kirari West were fantastic. They were moist and delicious, and I could never have guessed they were gluten-free. My wife was equally impressed, to the point that I suspect she was worried they didn't really meet her dietary needs (but they did!). When we stopped in the girl behind the counter was super nice and friendly. I controlled my temptation by only getting three cookies. They were all absolutely incredible. Whether or not you are able to eat gluten, you should stop by and try their cookies. If you can't eat gluten, you'll be thrilled at how amazing the cookies are. And if you can eat gluten, you'll be equally amazed! They also have options that meet a variety of other dietary restrictions, and it sounds like they may have vegan options soon. We stan so many things about the place: 1. Layout - super clean, minimalistic, and classy. Small work cafe vibes but also order and go. 2. Service - she was so sweet! genuine gal i forgot to remember her name but she was working today. she was the barista and cashier. friendly but not overly in your face about it- super chill 3. Hojicha Latte - love they had the oat milk sub cause i'm lactose intolerant. authentic flavor and like that it wasn't overly sweetened. it helped refresh and no weird aftertaste 4.
