FINALLY, a shop that sells cupcakes with a NORMAL amount of frosting. Not to mention that said frosting actually tastes really good... oh my goodness. I am relieved. The cake itself is very moist and flavorful and is actually complimented by its modest frosting crown. For me, the vegan vs. non-vegan designations are irrelevant as I am not a vegan, but because I couldn't tell the difference anyway. I will 100% be back to try their savory options, and next time I'm in the market for a birthday cake, Sweet Art will be my first stop. I placed a to-go order for a baby shower and everyone raved about the desserts! We ordered cupcakes and cookies, which were all delicious. It took a few calls to get in touch with the right person to place the order, but it was fairly easy to order over the phone and arrange for pick up, plus they texted and emailed the receipt for payment. The cookies were big and a nice mix of sweet and salty, and the cupcakes were rich and delicious. We needed vegan baked goods due to an allergy, so I appreciated the bakery's grace in response to my numerous questions for confirmation that everything was vegan. My first visit to Sweet Art was an accident. I was walking from my home in the South Tower Grove neighborhood to visit a friend in Shaw. I was early, so I walked a bit past her street and smelled something heavenly. It was one of the perfect summer days: hot (but not too), cloudless blue sky, people all about their Saturday errands. I looked in the one plate glass window and the place was packed - at 10 am! Everyone looked so happy. I now know why. Cakes, pastries and food at Sweet Art are like a drug. Once you have a taste, you are hooked. Butter and sugar mixed in the right combination are a stronger drug than heroin - at least here. I ordered a slice of their amazing quiche to go. I decided then and there that one day I would try a cupcake (especially since my boyfriend is a cupcake fiend). When he visited around Halloween, we decided to ask Sweet Art to make up 2 doz cupcakes for our centerpiece (Halloween-themed of course, with a special birthday one for our friend, Ben). When we arrived to pick them up the evening of the party, we decided to keep the boxes sealed until we got home to build our anticipation. We were thrilled. If the sweet scent of their butter cream frosting was not enough, they had mixed 4 different flavors and designs (Frankensteins, spiders & webs, pumpkins, etc). The centerpiece was much loved and a huge, delicious success. I had to send our friends home with any remaining cupcakes so we would not eat the rest and blow our "healthy living" program. And, had we kept them, I seriously thought it might end in violence when we got to the last cupcake. Better to heave that kind of responsibility on others and keep the peace at home. Seriously delicious cupcakes. I tried a vegan cupcake for the first time and it was so yummy! We got the strawberry lemonade one and it was perfect and not overly citrus-y. There was a 'Buy 2, Get 1 Free' deal, so for our other two cupcakes we chose the carrot cake and the mudslide. I think the carrot cake won both our hearts (my bf's and mine); it was perfectly moist and the cream cheese frosting was perfection. The mudslide was a-ok. The chocolate was great, as was the dark choc ganache topping but the vanilla/white frosting was overly sweet. We performed surgery and removed the frosting as best we could and devoured the rest. If not for the frosting, it might have been my favorite one, but carrot won! I would love to go back here but I'm afraid it'll make me fat... but they do use all organic ingredients and have lots of healthy food options... considering that, I was really surprised our cupcakes weren't more expensive! But what we're here for is the FOOD! Sweet Art has a rotating, light lunch menu that's available Wed-Sat from 11am to 3pm. The menu is posted on wall to your right as you enter the door. A few staples and fan favorites remain locked in, but the menu does change periodically. My first order consisted of the Sweet Burger with locally-made kettle chips. Listen: sooo GOODT! Yes, with a "T". I believe my BF got the Flad Nachos. Everything was incredible. The shop was clean and inviting. The staff was informative and pleasant. It's an upbeat, fun joint! Honestly, the real star of this stop is their delicious cupcakes and other assorted sweet treats. ***Everything is made from scratch. I have been wanting to check out the famous Sweet Art for years, and I finally made it this past Saturday for lunch. Now, I've been in some turmoil over doing this review because I am not vegan or vegetarian, and want to be as fair as possible in this review. That being said, my 3-star rating primarily deals with my overall experience and not the taste of the food. My mom, sister, and I came here, and my mother ordered the Sweet Burger, I ordered the Throwback burger, and my sister (who wasn't hungry) ordered a single, lonely oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, and each of us ordered a ginger beer. We were all on one ticket, which jumped up to over $30. However, the cashier, although friendly, forgot to bring us 3 ginger beers and only brought 2. My sister didn't get her's and we thought that maybe the cashier didn't hear her request one. As my sister went back to ask for her ginger beer, my mom and I looked back at the text receipt and sure enough we were charged for 3. I looked over and the SAME cashier then began to charge my sister for her ginger beer. I lept from my seat and practically ran back to the counter to stop my sister from paying, which my sister was pulling her wallet out as I was running. I gave them my mom's phone and showed them the receipt, which they then had no problem giving my sister her ginger beer. (Just as a side note: my mother had come here for her first time the week before and said that the same cashier had made a similar mistake with her order the week before.) So that happened, the seating in this restaurant is limited and every table was full except a small one with only 2 chairs. Luckily, a third chair opened up not long after we sat at a table close by, so me and my mom were at one table, while my sister had to sit at a different table nearby. *sigh* What can ya do? My sister really liked her cookie and gave me a piece and it was good. Not long after we sat, a woman brought us a burger, which turned out to be neither of our's. A second waitress came out soon after and brought both our burgers. Luckily we hadn't touched the other burger. That was awkward though. My mom liked her burger and gave me a bit of it, and the sauce on that burger was really good. I, however, was not as much of a fan of my burger. Don't get me wrong, I ate the entire thing and it wasn't bad, but I think I'll get a different burger or menu item next time. And yes, I plan to go back because I think I just ordered the wrong thing for me. We each had a side of kale salad with our burgers, and it was really good but I wish there had been more of it. Oh, and before I forget, there were no forks on the table that we sat or at the table closest to us. The silverware is kept in "holders" at the tables. Our table and the one closest to us only had spoons and knives, so we had to go scouting for forks to eat our salads. Annoying. All of these issues are minute, but they added up. As I previously said, I plan to come back because I feel like my experience may be a 1-off experience. The staff was friendly, and the shop was cozy and cute. I love the artwork by the way, as well as the black author names for the menu items. Mad props for that! I really wanted to like this place and there are elements about it that I really like, but I think with a little more attention to detail by the staff, my experience would have been much better. read more

I got the southwest burger which the actual patty was pretty good but it was a pretty basic burger with iceberg lettuce and a tomato. It had onion rings on it which wasn't my favorite and I got the southwest sauce on the side. They forgot the sauce initially and my food took a lot longer than my friends did. They do warn about food taking a bit because of the small kitchen but people who ordered after me started getting their food first. The place was packed when we got here but slightly over hyped. Should we share the sweet potato one first or the strawberry? Should we take a bite of each and alternate? Would the flavors mix and become confusing? It's the really tough decisions in life that get the best of me! So, we shared the sweet potato pie. The cake had very good texture and just the right about of moist! I really love this place! And they redecorated! New seats, new paintings and a new menu! It's a quick 12 minute bike ride from my apartment, which is great and bad at the same time. It's a family ran and minority owned business. I believe the main cook is the wife and the husband is an artist, which Is clear from all the amazing and unique art work on the wall (which is for sale so please support!). Even the bathroom is amazing. They have a great vegetarian/vegan food menu. You have to try their sweet potato black bean burrito and their flad burger! It is amazingly delicious. If you are going for lunch, plan to get there before noon because the line gets long quickly and the service isn't the fastest (however, it's still thorough and great service). I think the average wait is about 8-10 minutes for food for a couple after you have ordered. It will be longer wait for any group over three. The atmosphere is to sit and enjoy your food, not to rush so I actually appreciate that it takes some time for my food. Helps keep things in perspective. It is definitely worth the wait! I come mostly for the baked goodness, my favorite is the cinnamon roll or the L I G (life is good) cookie - peanut butter, oatmeal, and chocolate chip cookie. They specialize in vegan baked goods and also have some gluten free baked options. Everything is fresh baked from scratched and doesn't last long (60% will be gone by noon). I will start by saying I am not at all vegan, and I just tend to eat vegan food every once in a while. With that being said, I came here and ordered cupcakes, fries, and the make it funky burger. Since they are known more as a bakery, I give it 5-stars because the cupcake I tried was light, not super sweet, and very tasty delicious. It's Tuesday so my cupcake was only $2. Don't even know how much it is regularly, but the mini cupcakes are $1.25 and perfect for those who only want a bite, a sliver of sweets or for a young child.
