I really like Sweetgreen. I had experiences with both dining in and DoorDash. Dining in was great. I got the harvest bowl, and the portion was big and I had left over. Then I doordashed and built my own bowl. Just like other reviewers, there were 2 PAID items missing- cilantro and goat cheese. It looks like it's a common problem, and I hope they fix it soon. I'm thankful to Sweetgreen for the invitation to their "taste test" and IMO it was a well-planned event for a soft opening. After arriving at our scheduled reservation time, we were greeted by a member of the corporate training team who explained the backstory and mission of the business. It was interesting to learn that sweetgreen was started by three college students in Washington DC with the express purpose of providing a healthier way to eat and a focus on sustainability. It's safe to say they've been successful as they have a presence in 100+ locations across 20 states. Sweetgreen's Irvine location took over for the former Urban Seoul and is sandwiched between Pieology and Wahoo's in the Irvine Spectrum Center. The restaurant is furnished with modern and white decor which radiates a bright and clean ambience. Service was friendly and I appreciated that they were staffed appropriately especially amidst the chaos of a soft opening. We were told ahead of time that staff was new and still learning, but I'm confident they'll be up to speed by the grand opening. The sweetgreen menu offers warm bowls, salads, custom bowls and kid's meals. I elected to try the Crispy Rice Bowl which included arugula, warm wild rice, cilantro, cucumber, shredded cabbage, toasted almonds, crispy rice, raw carrots, blackened chicken, fresh lime squeeze and spicy cashew dressing...talk about nutritious and delicious! Salad lovers unite! You can choose a salad from the menu or create your own. Since I couldn't decide I chose to create my own. As a newbie, this was where they lost a star. The options are not clearly labeled to choose from. And the team member was not helpful in communicating my options even after I told her it was my first time. I didn't want to hold up the line playing 20 questions, so I chose items that I could recognize quickly. At checkout I was happily surprised by all the Lolipop flavor options. First time trying sweetgreen and it was pretty good! I ordered the bowl option. Ingredients were fresh and the food was tasty. Not too heavy but definitely not too light either; kind of the perfect portion tbh. The menu was slightly confusing but the guy behind the counter (I think his name was John) was super kind and made it really easy for us to understand. He also gave us great recommendations. The inside of the store was clean and they even provided complimentary water cups. I was visiting the spectrum today and was seriously worried I wouldn't find anything to eat. Okay there are tons of places to eat here. But I am on a new journey when it comes to food and I get a little overwhelmed on trying to find something that meets my own dietary needs. I will say that sweet greens hit the mark and then some. They had something for everyone. From tofu to steak. From super vegan to extreme carnivore and everyone in between. The salad was fresh and the topping just as fresh. Let me preface...I'm a HUGE fan of this place and have gone out of my way to eat here several times in the past few weeks...including after the menu change which removed critical items that kept me coming back such as the arugula and the herb-roasted chicken. While I've seen other menu items come out with lackluster portions and overpriced, the build your own salad was a blessing for me due to the choice of healthy items and portions. My order is (now): - Spring Mix & Kale - Quinoa (forgot this order) - Blackened Chicken - Double Garbanzo Beans - Double Broccoli - Miso Ginger dressing (medium pour) Usually this comes out to quite the substantial and nutrition-packed salad. However, my wife just brought this home for me and it was about 1/2 of what was expected...which was double frustrating as I waited 2 starving hours for her to finish up her mall business. This looks like barely any greens and DEFINITELY NOT a doubling of garbanzo and broccoli...as a result the pour of dressing overwhelmed the items and is like soup. Looking at other photos of their salad on Yelp and from my experience it's pretty clear that what I received was WTF. I was on the fence about visiting this establishment due to poor reviews, but after a few months of curiosity, we decided to order for lunch. The good: the restaurant space is clean and inviting. The inside is spacious and bright, but there is limited indoor seating. There is a sizable patio, though. The people working were very friendly and greeted me as soon as I entered, and directed me to where I could find bags for carrying my food. The bad: the food was not good for what you're paying. Portions were smaller than pictured and the presentation was poor. Both my son and I ordered meals with chips, and the chips were all broken up like they were scooped from the bottom of the bag. They gave us both barely any chips, definitely not the amount pictured. I thought the chicken avocado ranch bowl had good flavoring despite poor presentation. My husband ordered the hot honey chicken and thought it was gross, he could not finish it. I thought the sweet potatoes were good, however the quinoa in his bowl was nasty and the hot honey dressing had a weird aftertaste. My toddler's food was as expected. Plain and simple flavors (which is what we want for our child), but with poor presentation. All-in-all, I won't be returning. Got dinner here on a whim with a friend! It was pretty empty on a Monday night, which wasn't too surprising! Everything moved fast, and all of the menu boards were laid out quite thoughtfully, so my intimidation of the choices wasn't as bad! I got the create-your-own bowl with greens, quinoa, herb chicken, broccoli, sweet potatoes, chickpeas, and tomatoes, with the vinaigrette dressing on the side. My wife ordered food via my account (pick-up order); this is her first time eating there. She ordered the Chicken Pesto bowl and made some modifications (adding extra broccoli and sweet potatoes). When she arrived, she noted that the employees were occupied with other customers. As she looked upon the food prep area, it was dirty and very unorganized. After the customers being served left the line, she was told an employee would be right with her. They looked like they did not want to be there, very nonchalant and unprofessional. After being told by two employees that someone would attend to her (again, no one is in line), she was served by a female employee. She was told by the young lady that her order was ready. The bowl wasn't in a bag, nor was the lid properly secure on the bowl itself.   Following checking her food; thinking all the food was in the bowl, she thought the blackened chicken that she added to her bowl was missing. She returned to the restaurant and spoke with the same woman who assisted her. The employee was pushing a trash can with gloves on before speaking with her. As my wife asked if the chicken was in the bowl, she stuck her fingers in the bowl w/o taking the gloves off and washing her hands. She told her it was in the bottom of the bowl--the employee walked off with a smirk on her face. It was like four pieces of blackened chicken in the bowl. She found a piece of kale in her bowl and a few burnt pieces of sweet potatoes. Overall, she said the flavor of the bowl was ok, but due to the attitude of the staff, cleanliness of the establishment, and skimping of proportions, she would not be coming back. We hope this reaches management to make and adjust changes within the establishment. It is unfortunate; you work hard for the funds you earn, and close to $25 was gone to waste. read more

Today, we chose to have lunch at Sweetgreen for a healthier option. My wife and our 17-month-old shared a roasted chicken bowl, while I went with the blackened chicken bowl. Unfortunately, shortly after we left, my wife started feeling nauseous, and about 45 minutes later, when we got home, she began to vomit. It didn't stop there--soon after, I noticed our daughter crying, and moments later, she also started to vomit. Both of them rarely get sick, so it was alarming to see them affected like this. It seems they both suffered from food poisoning due to the roasted chicken bowl, while I felt fine, likely because I chose a different dish. This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth, and I have no intention of returning to Sweetgreen. I never want my family to endure something like this again. In fact, the entire team did such a great job taking care of us and everyone around us! I got the Fish Taco bowl for myself and picked up the Harvest bowl for a friend. The food was amazing of course! Everything was so fresh and flavorful! This is located around the corner from Wahoos facing the parking lot of the Irvine Spectrum. I was SO ecstatic to find out that a Sweetgreen opened up locally near me, especially when I always raved about the location in NYC. In NYC, I loved Sweetgreen so much that I'd often order more than I can eat so I can bring it home - because it's THAT good. However, this Irvine location has truly disappointed me - especially because I truly am a Sweetgreen lover, or at least in New York I am. I ordered the Elote bowl per a staff member's recommendation, but it is not worth the hype it received at all. For $15+, it just tasted plain. Yes, the corn is present but it wasn't saving or adding to the meal at all. I felt like a dinosaur just munching on leaves that I didn't even love. I understand that salads are supposed to be healthy, but even with the dressing, it just tasted plain overall. Honestly, I could make a better salad at home for a fraction of the price.
