Had a great visit today being provided top notch service from Tania who authentically engaged in conversation with me while she prepped my meal. Id definitely come back because of her service.

I came on a very nice day I sat in their little green house area, it was lovely. The staff was very kind with recommendations and being accommodating to what I needed. I've had the blacked chicken salad before, got it again, but without apples and it was just as delicious.

    Caramelized Garlic Steak salad

Food here is pretty decent, I always go for the garlic caramelized steak for my choice of protein. It took a few tries for me to perfect my order since figuring out what ingredients taste good together is difficult for me to conceptualize until I'm actually eating the dish itself! Sweetgreen is a solid choice for a feel-good meal that doesn't leave you questioning your physical health or leave your brain frazzled working in the afternoon. The staff are friendly and seating here can be difficult on weekdays for lunches just because there are so many companies and young adults nearby in downtown San Mateo, I'd imagine.

Sadly there are not a lot of custom salad places near me. I went here recently and ordered a Mini Mezze because I wanted something small. First off they don't have the bowl with dividers to even make this. They also don't have whole tortilla chips, they gave us the ones that are broken up that they use on salad. How are you supposed to dip tiny crumbled pieces of tortilla chips in the hummus? The chicken was extremely dried out and hard. Overall, this place was a complete disappointment. If your craving a salad, just go somewhere else.

    Harvest Bowl

Came on a Sunday for lunch and it wasn't too crowded. Tried the Harvest Bowl, which comes with roasted chicken, roasted sweet potatoes, apples, goat cheese, roasted almonds, wild rice, shredded kale, and balsamic vinaigrette. I enjoyed the combination of the goat cheese with the apple, and the almonds added a nice crunch. I also loved the sweet potatoes! The bowl didn't have much chicken, though. Overall, a solid meal and a nice open space to enjoy the food.

Love this place. Fresh food and great options. Salata is my favorite salad place, but there none in the area. Sweet green is freash, good service and nice and clean ambience.

One time I put Costco chicken on top of my bowl at Sweetgreen. The whole chicken. It was too much. I won't do that again.

Its not easy to get a parking spot at the location in Berkeley, CA, where I'm currently working. If it was, I'd probably eat at sweetgreen every single day. This is easily my favorite "select your own stuff" style restaurant. You just feel better when you eat like this. I've seen a few people complain about the amount of food they are getting for the price. You don't go to sweetgreen for a $1.50 hot dog and a soda... you go to sweetgreen for real food that will make you feel great the rest of the day. I'll give up $20 for that quite happily. -- Go try this place! If you don't like it, there's something wrong with you. They even have cans of kombucha. I always send my friends photos of my bowls like "Sweetgreen!!!!" (when you say it, you draw out the E sound in the word green for an extended period)

I've eaten at Sweetgreen many times, so this experience was beyond disappointing. My salad arrived with visible mold on the avocado, which raises a food quality and safety concern that should never reach a customer! For a brand known for fresh ingredients, there is clearly a breakdown in basic quality control. I hope the location reviews its inspection procedures to prevent this from happening again.

This stands out as a bright, airy, sunny, and clean location. I would rather drive all the way to this location than going to the ones in the city which are grungier and harder to find parking at. The staff are friendly and got my customizations right all of the 3 times I've been here. The ingredients also tasted fresh all those times. Look forward to coming back soon!

    hole in the bowl
    Andrea N.

there was a hole in the bowl / plate and we ate a piece of paper cuz we didn't realize. The food tasted good though. Expensive but good and healthy.

$20 Hummus Crunch salad sans crunch. Notice hummus portion in small cup.

Its this place dairy, egg & peanut allergy friendly?

there are dairy and egg options and I did see those dairy and egg options on the table to the right of the toppings options.

Can we eat inside at tables now?

I was there today and saw some tables near the door.

Ordered the carnitas mixto bowls with cilantro green sauce and juicy pulled chicken with mole sauce. Also added avocado to the mixto bowl and I have to say it wasn't worth the cost; was given maybe 1/4 of an avocado for $1.95 (Safeway has it for $2 for a whole avocado). The flavor of the carnitas was ok but the chicken was very tasty! I was hoping for more mixed greens since it was supposed to be a salad not a rice bowl. Overall I think I would order it again but only a chicken Mixto bowl and see if I can ask for less rice.

What we ordered: Prosciutto Di Parma Arugula Pizza (+ burrata) = 100000/10 FOOD: 9/10 Served hot, fresh, and made to order, this pizza truly hit the spot. The crust had those delicious wood-fired charred bits and was the perfect thickness, not too thin, not too thick. The burrata (worth the extra charge!) was rich and creamy, while the arugula added the perfect fresh, crunchy bite. Every ingredient worked so well together. I'm literally salivating as I type this! Paired with some good wine? Chef's kiss! SERVICE: 9/10 Every staff member we interacted with struck the perfect balance of being friendly and laid-back. We sat at the bar, where the bartender also served as our waiter. He was personable, kept up a great conversation, and was attentive without ever making us feel rushed, all while mixing drinks and taking care of other guests. AMBIANCE: 9/10 Spacious, clean, and incredibly inviting. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and all the train station-inspired decor throughout the restaurant. The large windows let in so much natural light that it's an even better place to sit back and enjoy a meal. I'd happily come back the next time I'm in the area.

I had been looking forward to trying the Brussels sprouts and the burrata, melon and prosciutto plate, and they definitely lived up to the hype. We also shared the Double Pepperoni and Carne pizzas, which were a great size for the table and perfect for sharing. The food hit the spot, and all of my lunch cravings were definitely satisfied. The only downside was the seating and service. We were placed in a corner at an oddly shaped table that made it a little uncomfortable for everyone to sit. Our waitress was friendly, but the service felt a bit over-attentive. I appreciate staff checking in, but I would have preferred a more relaxed approach...five check-ins would have been plenty instead of ten. Giving guests a little more space to enjoy their meal would make the experience feel even more comfortable. This was my first visit, and despite that minor issue, I really enjoyed the food and had a good experience overall. I'll definitely be back.

Takahashi Market is a San Mateo institution that's been around for over 120 years which says, A LOT! Long before social media, they had already built a loyal customer base. I hadn't been to Takahashi in several years but we popped in for a quick, wallet-friendly lunch while we were in the area. While they have a curated selection of Hawaiian and Japanese specialty groceries, I think the heart of the business is their food counter.
