I order lunch from here every other week. I've only ordered for pick up and I've had a positive experience every time. My orders are always correct. The ingredients are always fresh. The Summer BBQ salad is really refreshing but I think it's seasonal. The pesto vinaigrette and green goddess ranch are delicious. The break that comes with your salad is amazing. read more

First time and I immediately noticed that the lettuce had a lot of pink! It's mold and when I pointed it to the guy who was serving, he started mixing it so the pink are not all pulled up in one place. This is dishonest and public safety is in question. All it was, was those small pieces of chicken, (only nine of them) sitting on top of arugula mainly My first time here, and I didn't expect to pay $18 for mainly arugula. I kid you not l, the amount of chicken could not even make up half a chicken breast. The flavor in the sauce is there, but it's just not worth paying almost $20 for greens... Sweetgreen is Sweetgreen. It won't be a Michelin star restaurant. It won't be McDonalds. That being said, this Sweetgreens is great!! The staff here are super friendly. The place is clean. The online order system and the pickup area is super convenient and easy to use. With the revamped rewards system, having an account and the app is great to use (as of 2023). However, the seating is a bit sparse, but most of the orders I see anyways are to-go orders and seating has never been a problem for me. If you have never tried Sweetgreens, I would recommend the guacamole greens or the harvest bowl. You can definitely pass on the sides as they are lackluster as the main point of sweetgreens are the salads. read more

Ordered on Doordash! Got my order correct and it came super fast! I got the Harvest Bowl with some modifications. So there's two type of sweet potatoes here... One that is just called "roasted sweet potatoes" and "hot roasted sweet potatoes" ($2 add on). They're so different!!! Get the hot roasted, the sweet potato comes in chunks and it's roasted to a sweet mushy creamy potato. The normal "roasted sweet potatoes" look like sweet potato chips and are too small to be enjoyed, they're more salty and burnt. Overall the salad was fresh and delicious. The shredded kale is perfectly soft and easy to eat. The chicken was tender and flavored so well. The wild rice was still warm and not dry. None of the ingredients were too oily (common problem of ordering roasted veggies at other restaurants) but healthy fab fit fun. +1 to this place for putting dressings on the side, not mixing my salad, and even putting the nuts in another container to keep them crisp and allergy friendly. read more

I ordered a couple of salads for delivery through sweetgreen's app and for some reason both arrived with NO lettuce (no romaine nor spinach that I ordered) .I don't really understand how this could happen unless the restaurant ran out of all lettuce, but they never contacted me and I find it hard to believe a salad company ran out of lettuce. Went here yesterday for a dine in. Staff is polite and very kind. Salad offerings are too good. I am a vegetarian and all salads can be made vegetarian and i was joyful. We had one bowl (shroomami with white rice) and one salad (Humus crunch). Both were yummy and portion is good for a full meal. They offer complimentary bread with every dish you order. Today on 07/08 they had their $5 a bowl for Harvest Bowl, Shroomami, and Kale Caesar. I was so excited when I saw this deal in the afternoon because I love their Kale Caesar. I decided to order two Kale Caesars, one Harvest, and one Shroomami for my family for dinner. Pick up time was set for 7:15pm. Around 6:30-7pm I kept checking the app for any updates but it still didn't say preparing. Anyways, still decided to head out to the store and by the time I got there, the store was empty and there were only 6 bowls laid out left. The employee said there was something wrong with their app/online ordering or something so the salads would be incorrect AND that our order should be refunded. At first, she said only two bowls per person but this was our dinner??? So she allowed me to take 4 bowls but that was it. I saw someone else come in so I bet they had nothing at all to pick up. Also if you look at my picture, it's someone else's order!!! What????? This is so ridiculous!! No advanced notice, no app notification, nothing!! Should I have ordered pick up right away when I saw it in the afternoon?? You would think they would be more prepared or have more ingredients ready when they have a deal like this. We have been getting takeout a lot from sweetgreen recently. It's very easy to order online and the items are ready to be picked up. The bags have your name on it, right on the rack that says "pick me up online ordering". The items in the warm bowls and the custom bowls are very fresh and refreshing. Our favorites are the Chicken Pesto Parm, Fish Taco, and Shroomami. We love the sauces, especially the pesto vinaigrette, miso season ginger, and lime cilantro jalapeño vinaigrette. Nice pairing of sauces with the food. I'm subtracting a couple of stars for 2 reasons. 1) there were no seal stickers on the takeout containers and therefore subject to tampering. Other sweetgreen locations that we have been to had the seal stickers. 2) portions are smaller than in advertising pictures. read more

Here we go again.... more inconsistency!!! In the last couple of years the San Mateo store goes through major mismanagement with the quality of food and service. Was okay for about the last couple of months and now its back to not okay!! The last couple of orders the food did not seem as fresh. Felt like the chicken had been refrigerated for a few days!! Salad leaf was tired!! and their pesto dressings seem to only fill about 1/3 of the cup instead of a fuller amount they used to give!!! Actually the salad ordered yesterday again came with NO dressing!!! Its really gone way down hill (AGAIN). So.... we are done with them!! I used to wonder why you'd pay so much for a salad, but after trying sweetgreen, I get the hype!! I've only tried delivery from here, but I'm obsessed with their salads. My favorite was the harvest bowl for awhile, but now the farmhouse caesar with chicken is where it's at for me. The ingredients always taste fresh, and I love the blend of all the ingredients together, even items that I wouldn't think goes well in a salad. Still there are three items that have been removed from my cart with NO EXPLANATION. I cannot understand what is going on. Okay I try to order a bowl and the same thing happens. This is cra-cra... or is it me??? Am I finally going crazy? Has the time come that my brain has become so addled that I am not able to do something simple like place an online order? I was hoping that was decades away... As it turns out, it is their crappy ordering system. After clicking around I find out that these ingredients have been automatically removed from my order because they are out of stock. Okay, I understand the logic. But why is Sweetgreen hiding this information from me during the ordering process? If you are changing my order, TELL ME! Don't hide this change from me and let get frustrated with your ordering system. (trumpets blaring). Sweetgreen, I hear-by confer onto to you the award for the worst online ordering platform that I have used in 2021. I don't eat here very often and now recall that I had the same problem early last year and sent them an email about it. Apparently nothing has been done yet. Hopefully they can get it right this year. The following is advice on how to fix this (and I am feeling generous today, so no consulting charge this time). If someone has ordered something that includes an ingredient that is out of stock, when the item is added to the cart you should display the following message: "Some items have been automatically removed from your order because they are not in stock." I love a good salad and have gotten really good ones at most every Sweetgreen location I've been too, coast to coast. This one was better than average. I modified the "harvest bowl" replacing the chicken with salmon (meh, maybe go with an egg instead) and adding squash, raisins, basil, and a slice of bread (all good additions). The pickled carrots were OK, but flavors didn't really add to this bowl. Ingredients were all fresh, bowl was filling, definitely recommend. The best sweetgreen location in the bay! It seems like most sweetgreens regularly have issues with keeping their spring mix fresh, but all of the salads I've ordered from here have been great! I highly highly recommend the Guacamole Greens salad sans tortilla chips (and with extra chicken!) for anyone looking for a high protein salad option that's light yet filling--the Lime Cilantro Jalapeño Vinaigrette it comes with is amazing and I always ask for a heavy pour of it mixed-in. This particular sweetgreen features plentiful indoor and outdoor seating (with the outdoor seating having adequate overhead covering) and is spacious and roomy once you walk through either of its two entrances. Workers are pretty nice, although one time I was asking for a water cup for someone who had literally collapsed in their outdoor seating area and I was kind of curtly pointed to the water station located in the back right corner of the space. Working in food service, I understand how annoying it can be when someone's interrupting you at the point of sale with another customer--and I definitely should've taken a wider look at the store before asking--but ultimately I had to wait around at the register until another customer was being rung up before I could locate anyone who could point me to the right place. But recognizing that they weren't aware of the situation and that their responsibilities are mostly on the line, the service in and of itself is very efficient and reliable. read more

The ingredients in late summer/early fall are at their peak flavor; this is when you want to go, if you want to convert to being a salad lover :) I got a custom salad with super fresh ingredients cherry tomatoes, kale, broccoli...etc and their spicy cashew dressing. I finally decided to check out Sweetgreen situated at the edge of downtown San Mateo, as it sits literally on the corner of 3rd street and El Camino Real. Typically and on most days, parking is relatively easier to find at the edge of downtown, as opposed to the more central part and arguably the busiest portion of downtown. I decided to go with the Peach + Burrata bowl and ordered at the counter(and not ahead as the majority of the folks coming in and out were there to just to pick up their meal and go). This bowl contained Burrata, fresh sliced peaches, tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, mint, roasted almonds, spring mix of greens, shredded kale, and tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette. The flavors were smooth, creamy, sweet, sour and this concoction had a wonderful mixture of textures, which is always necessary to make a salad interesting and fun. I'm encouraged to come back again in the future and try more of their creations. read more

It's hard for me to pay close to $20 for a salad that I can make at home, however I often justify spending that much at sweetgreen because of the quality of their ingredients that go into their salads. I also appreciate that they share where their vegetables are harvested. A few of my faves are the shroomami, harvest bowl and crispy rice bowl. If I'm feeling adventurous I'll customize my own which is a nice option to have. Whether I order my food in the restaurant or have it delivered, I feel like their bowls are consistently good. This place is kind of on the outskirts of downtown San Mateo, but still walking distance. There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating here. You fall in line and they make your order in front of you. You can either create your own bowl or order from the menu. I ordered the shroomami bowl and subbed the beets and tofu for sweet potato and broccoli. The mushrooms were my favorite part about this bowl because they're juicy and meaty. I got it with heavy sauce and asked for it to be mixed, although it ended up being too much sauce and my salad was a bit drenched. I also asked for an additional slice of bread. I enjoy how customizable the bowls are and how big the portions are! This bowl personally serves as two meals for me. I had never had a warm salad before sweetgreen, but I enjoyed it!
