SWeL might have just taken Serious Pie's place as my favorite pizza place in Seattle. It combines a posh, but friendly decor and atmosphere with excellent food and wait staff. We started our dinner with the calamari appetizer and the grapefruit margarita. Both were excellent. They prepare their calamari without breading and using a lightly spicy seasoning. I can easily consider it one of the best calamari preparations I've had the pleasure to taste. Next, we each got one of their personal pizzas. The dough and crust is flatbread style - light and with the perfect amount of crunch. Their dough brings a delicate sweetness to the rest of the flavors in the pizza. He never steered us wrong with his suggestions which we appreciate. The inside is really cute, but definitely gets loud when it's busy. Great atmosphere and fresh, flavorful food. It's very well decorated (like a lot of restaurants in Fremont) and has an intimate vibe that's nice for dates or just special times. But the food - the PIZZA - was phenomenal. I'm not a big pizza person, but their smoked fresh mozzarella pizza (with pancetta, red onions, and sweet spicy peppers) is so flavorful, even the crust is good which I didn't even know was possible. We have been desperate for a neighborhood spot that offers good food, quality libations, and that most unusual of Seattle offerings - good service, and this place nails all three. Pair that with a cute, upscale, but not stuffy decor and this place is a real winner. We love it! When our server (Jenny I think) recommended the chicken dish it seemed weird. Everyone has the obligatory chicken entree on their menu, it's low cost, not very inventive, but solid. Except here. The chicken was, hands down, one of my favorite meals EVER. It is pan seared and crispy on both sides, while juicy and tender inside. The side of grilled or sautéed veggies were perfectly seasoned and crisp tender, good mashed potatoes rounded out the meal, but the star? The star of this dish is the mushroom gravy. My God, I want to put this gravy on everything I eat from now on. The sautéed (not friend, yay!) calamari starter was fantastic, salmon entree solid, and reasonably priced wines by the glass much appreciated. The service was outstanding, not just from our own server, but the entire staff. The only slight thing that could be improved upon was the dessert. The sweets menu is limited, so each item has to be outstanding. We tried the fresh baked chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream. This is not the most inventive dessert, but when done well, it is perfection. Here, the cookie itself lacked flavor. I'd recommend searching for a better recipe and maybe consider adding a topping - sea salt caramel might be just the thing to elevate this dish. We will definitely be back, probably weekly and always with an eye on that mushroom gravy! read more

We went for happy hour and had a combo of cocktails, beer, and champagne- all were great. We had the carne pizza, which is basically a street taco on a pizza and the Italian sausage. We split two of the specials: the caprese and the burger, and he had a beer (Bale Breaker Field 41). - The ratio of mozzarella to tomato and basil was all wrong. Huge slices of tomato with little baby pieces of mozzarella. The mozzarella was decent, though. - The tomatoes, on the other hand, were underripe and cold, with tough green centers. - There was no good olive oil flavor on it. - The burger was ok, but boring. It was a beef-bacon mix, which I like, but there was nothing else notable about it. It came with some potatoes. - The beer tasted like the lines were dirty. We had just had the same beer from the brewery. Service was good, and we sat at a cute little booth for 2 which I liked. If prices were 20% lower, they'd have an extra star from me. Everything came out individually at a snails pace and was about half the size I was expecting. I ordered a salad with salmon, Salmon was about 8-10 bucks extra... We've been here two times. First time we took pork, everything was good on the plate: potato, mushrooms,sauce but not the pork itself. It was very dry and tough. For 30$. However, mushrooms and sauce were awesome! We also took chocolate mousse cake: nothing special. Second time we took pizza and it also was so-so. The atmosphere in the restaurant and staff are amazing! They already were closed but told as nothing and we continued to sit and have a good time there! I looked through Yelp to find a new place to try for dinner. Stumbled upon SWeL because the pictures posted look so good. We went and we were not disappointed! The ambience is casual but intimate at the same time. They have both indoor and patio seating and we got seated right away. We ordered the scallop spread, the linguini and rigatoni. I LOVE THE SCALLOP SPREAD. So good! You can make your linguini and rigatoni spicy if you'd like which I love. I also try their kombucha which is really good. And THE SERVICE IS AMAZING. Our waiter was sooo attentive and awesome. He was so nice throughout our dining experience. I accidental forgot my phone in the restaurant and he ran after us to give me my phone. Excellent food! Came in today for dinner and sat at the bar since we didn't have a reservation. The bartender made us Whiskey sours that were great. We got a Cesar salad, the mushroom tagliatelle, filet minion special and the bread pudding. Everything we had was amazing. The server and bartender were so attentive, the ambiance was cozy and romantic without being too stuffy, and the music was great. We passed SWeL gingerly - it looked a bit fancy and I was in yoga pants. Someone from the staff warmly invited us in when we wanted to look at the menu. I mentioned I felt underdressed but he assured me it was a casual place. He never pressured us but after looking at the menu, we decided to give it a whirl. The ambience is lovely, great decor and pleasant music. Our server was a gem - knowledgeable and attentive. We started with a small Cesar salad. Loved the dressing, very creamy, and the fact that they did not skimp on the cheese. For dinner, I went with the pear and Gorgonzola pizza which was great! It was a similar style to Serious Pie almost - the olive oil and sea salt were present but not overpowering. The only note about the pizza was the center got a bit soggy, but nothing a knife and fork couldn't handle. Husband got the rigatoni which was good but probably nothing to write home about. Wanted to check out a new place and saw this recommendation. As always, parking in Fremont sucks, but don't blame the restaurants for that. After you find some parking, this place is right near the rocket and next door to Barrel Thief. Ambiance is great, felt roomy enough, has a bar-top and decent seating for average-sized parties. If you are a large party I think it might be tight (be sure to call ahead for sure). While we were there on a cool fall evening, there is outside seating (picnic tables) that would be great on a really nice day. GET THE PIZZAs. We got the Hummus appetizer and it was very good. It came with basically a whole pizza crust cut up...plenty for the two of us. I also wanted to make sure we tried a pizza and we got the sausage/onion/mushroom one (smaller size). Both of these were fantastic and I would absolutely order again...see below. For entree I had the rigatoni and my wife had the chicken. These were both good, but nothing spectacularly different than other good dishes of these same. The sausage in the rigatoni is same as on pizza, which is very good. Service was amazing. Quick, kind, helpful. Really great vibe. When we return we would stick with the pizza's and get larger ones and 2 of them. We went early, but the place got busy quick on a Friday night. read more

If I could give SWeL more than 5 stars I would. It's THAT good! The food they serve is on another level compared to anything I've tried in Fremont and most of the city! The scallops to start are fantastic and uniquely prepared. Even if you're not a fan of scallops I'd encourage you to try this dish. I love this place! Food has been consistently awesome every time I eat here. Great service and kind people. I have brought a bunch of people here and they all love it. My go to place for bringing people now. Pizzas are delicious and the clams and mussels in the tarragon sauce are a must!
