I think people sell this place a little short. The restaurant seems to aspire to franchise-ism, and the reviews were a little lackluster, so I was hesitant. We sat on the patio area (really nice) on a beautiful evening, which helped. Service was excellent. Dad got a bloody mary, which was well-done. Calamari appetizer came on a bed of vegetables, and was actually soft, good calamari. We saw someone else getting served the meatloaf, which hooked 2 of us. I was looking for a steak after the strenuous Angel's Landing hike at Zion. The shuttle driver suggested Switchback as one of the options. I loved their sea scallop appetizer. You get 2-3 bacon wrapped scallops with 2 stuffed mushrooms. The sauce was amazing. I ordered a filet mignon but liked my boyfriend's ribeye steak better. I was there in October, 5:30PM, had been in town several days, eating all meats out. Switchback was by far and away the best I tried. Nice and quiet, excellent service, food was outstanding. We had stuffed shrimp and sea scallops. Scallops were as good or better than any I've had, cooked to perfection. Pricey, yes. But after being in over crowded, loud and (only slightly) less expensive places, frankly the quiet atmosphere with no hussle and bussle was a relief. The food was really good, very simple flavors. The portions could be smaller. Our waitress was super nice and communicative. We had shrimp cocktail which wasn't as good but the tomato soup and our mains - perfect steak and ahi tuna were delicious as well as the deserts - creme brûlée and ice cream with berries! They were a bit slower with the wine tho. We also had espresso lavazza after our meal - not many US restaurants have that! My husband and I went here for dinner this past Tuesday. Host were cordial and helpful, ambiance was nice, and the food was good. I'm only giving 3-star review mostly because I am used to getting what I want and our waiter told me I could not order the fingerling potatoes as a side instead of the roasted potatoes they had listed on their sides menu. He said that the fingerling potatoes goes with one of their fish meals. Note that my 18 oz cut ribeye steak is $85 by itself and all I wanted was the fingerling potatoes instead of the roasted potatoes as an extra side dish (which I wanted to pay extra for) and the fish meal he is referring to costs less than half my $85 ribeye steak. What is wrong with this service? It would take two orders of their fish meal and twice the labor involved into fulfilling those orders in order to bring in the same money they make from my order of one 18 oz ribeye steak. I really wanted my steak that night so I did not argue with our waiter or push to get my fingerling potatoes to go with my $85 ribeye steak. Unhappy with the remark and explanation of why he could not provide me fingerling potatoes to go with my $85 ribeye steak I elected to order a side of broccoli and a side of grilled asparagus instead. I would eat here again because their food is actually decent and the service is fine and as always there's always room for improvements, I understand perfection is a rarity. My palette is diverse and we are well traveled. I am used to 5-star restaurants with 5-star service and I have empathy with places and people that and whom are rated lesser as there isn't always 5-star restaurants with 5-star service wherever we go and been. After a long day of hiking in Zion Park we were pleasantly surprised to discovered this gem of a steak house right outside the park entrance. We were treated to a much needed indoor fine dining experience. The service was beyond exceptional and the dinner was truly the best I have enjoyed in months. We started with an iceberg lettuce wedge heaping with bacon and crumbled blue cheese that should have been our entire meal. Excellent food. We came here every day for Breakfast for our two stays (total 4 days), and this trip had dinner as well. The breakfast is very nice. The eggs are to order, and the regular spread is very nice, with fresh dishes, fruit, yogurt, great coffee, tea and everything you could normally want from an american breakfast. The dinner was spectacular. Usually at breakfast they leave the awnings drawn in the porch area. At dinner, they opened these up for an incredible dining experience, with glorious views of the mountains. But that was just for show. The food was to die for. I ordered the Filet Mignon, with a great glass of pinot. The steak was cooked perfectly, with nice sides I just cannot remember now. We stopped here for breakfast on our way to Zion National Park. The hostess came across as a little snotty, when she pointed out that there will be just a breakfast buffet (no menu) and that it's 15.50 plus tax. The dining room is gorgeous with floor to ceiling windows and the interior is nice. The food was mediocre and not worth the money. Some of the fruit offered was fresh, a lot of it was out of a can. They had scrambled eggs, pancakes, beacon, waffles, french toast and all of it was pretty blah. We had our wedding ceremony at the "meadow" and our reception for just over 100 guests in the patio. Everything was perfect! Kristen was very professional and upfront about what was possible and how much it would cost. I felt at ease knowing she had everything under control so I could just enjoy my day. I am adding to my review of Switchback, having received a response from management nearly a month after having been there. This is a good example of the sort of timing we experienced at the restaurant. Please see all my other reviews here and on Trip Advisor and you will see I have written wonderful and honest reviews, and never been so shocked by the collective position of the management and staff as I am here. I have only been polite, even within my review- albeit direct and truthful. As management, I'm so surprised you want to point out the menu and that "we" ordered "wrong" (make the customer wrong? Really?-- and that isn't even what happened) rather than point out-- "that must have been disappointing especially with your pregnant daughter just needing a quick drink of water. I hope you will be back next year and allow us to provide you with the food and service you have always received from us." You take no responsibility and rather "attack your guests". Shame on you. If you would ever like a weekend training for your management and staff on providing extraordinary customer service, please let me know. I would be happy to offer my professional services. As it stands now I imagine that this manager has some serious personal work and maturing to do, while I feel badly the waiter who served us primarily is probably getting inadequate training despite his wish to do well. Very sad.... Loved this place for the past many years. We will have to wait for the next management team to show up before we will go back! Too bad..... We've eaten here previously but forgot how good this place is. Service was on point. Full bar which is always good! We had filet mignon which was amazing. The au gratin potatoes were no doubt the best we've ever had! Creamy American goodness!! The creamed spinach was exactly what one would expect from a restaurant this good. The atmosphere is nice. This was absolutely one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. It started bad was bad in the middle and ended bad. First they brought out the wrong appetizer, then brought out all the food, one of which was the wrong kids menu item. Then we all sat and watched our food get cold while waiting on the correct item to come out for my son. We ended up not waiting for him and were done with our meals before his came out. We added some scallops when we first placed our order they came out after we were done and they looked beautifully seared but were cold as the ocean in the middle. The steaks weren't terrible and the food that did come out correctly was all ok. But at the price of the entrees I expect more than ok. read more

I had the pleasure of going to Switchback for an early breakfast and walking in I was surprised to see the place PACKED. There were only two servers for a room full of full tables and we ended up grabbing our own menus from the hostess stand to speed the process. :) - GOOD food. I got the blueberry pancakes and my friend got the banana pancakes. Unlike a lot of breakfast joints, Switchback puts the fruit into the batter. In my opinion, this makes or breaks a good pancake. There were also flexible and allowed us to switch around menu items for a minimal charge - Great sports bar atmosphere, ESPN was playing at 8am...my kind of place! - Hotel discount! Switchbacks is your typical bar-restaurant. Sports all over every large TV, cold beers on tap, and a good mix of bar food. We started off with the nachos and they were gone within five minutes. The only thing that slowed us down was the cold Polygymy Porter that we were sipping on. I ordered the Jalapeño Burger and it had a decent amount of spice, which I like. You really can't go wrong as far as a decent pub goes. I'd recommend this place to anyone trying to relax and have a good time. read more

This was heaven-sent to us the day of Uruguay VS Nederlands world cup game. We just drove to Zion National Park from AZ and this is the only place we found that plays World Cup. There are so many TVs to choose from and the crowd was just great! There are couple of families with kids, there are seniors, and bunch of hard-core soccer fanatics (guilty*). It's such a nice, mixed crowd that made the game more enjoyable. We had the best Pina Colada and bratwurst sandwich with mixed-in sweet potatoes. The bartender (which is probably the owner/manager, too) is super friendly. We had a great time and it's nice and cool inside - perfect to take a break from the hot weather outside. I came to meet my lady friend Ruby for a date night and boy, was I impressed with our dinner! We ordered a couple drinks to take the edge off to start (wine for her, the Boulevardier for me) and the wild night began. We started our meal with the crab cakes, which were spectacular with the creamy sauce they were served in. After dealing me with some shocking personal news, Ruby had the pecan crusted trout while I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf. The rich meatloaf was complimented well by the salty bacon, much like I compliment my salty counterpart, Ruby. I recommend the sautéed mushrooms for a side dish...they were very juicy. Our server, Amber, was very knowledgeable, too. All in all, on a night made memorable by some interesting revelations from Ruby, the dinner at Switchback stole the show! read more

Overall, a nice dine-in experience so I'm giving it four stars. But some hits and misses. The best part- Our server and the staff were friendly. The ambience is nice. Tables spaced out. Servers wore face coverings. The cocktails and bread were good. As for entrees, We ordered halibut and ribs. Portions were huge but my food wasn't hot when it arrived. The fish was decent but the risotto that came with my fish was cold and I couldn't enjoy it. The creamed corn we ordered on the side was hot and delicious though and saved our meal. My friends and i ate here a few nights ago. After reading the reviews, i had no idea what to expect. The host seated us right away. This is a very beautiful restaurant. A lot of thought went into the design and decor. It's am extremely nice restaurant. Service was excellent throughout meal. We received our appetizers quickly, but the meat entrees took a while. Not the end of the world. Everyone in my party was raving about the food. Very well prepared, basic seasonings to let the fresh food shine. I also loved the background music. It wasn't loud and featured acoustic guitar and piano pieces. It was very enjoyable. I also liked that it wasn't a noisy restaurant. As others mentioned, it is expensive. We definitely intend to return while we're staying in springdale. I highly recommend this steakhouse if your budget can manage it. Great dining experience. read more
