The first summer living here our air conditioning shut down and the owner from Ecks Air (Mark) came out and said the refrigerant was low and it just needed to be "charged up". This worked fine for the rest of the summer. The following summer our system shut down again and Ecks came out acting clueless and said the system is fine and just needs another charge. I learned later on that at this point Mark from Ecks Air definitely knew something was wrong and was taking the lazy, unethical route out of the situation. The same thing happened the third summer living here and I asked around and learned this is not normal so I asked the owner of Ecks (Mark) some difficult questions that he was not happy to answer. He finally said there must be a leak and unfortunately we're out of warranty at that point in time so he can't replace the unit and if we wanted to replace it, we would have to pay for it ourselves regardless that this was giving us a problem since the first year we moved in. He also said he was going to be a good guy and continue "charging up" the unit free of cost each summer until the day we replace the unit. This summer, which is our 13th year here, he comes out, charges up the unit, and tries to charge me for it. When I question why he's charging me since 10 yrs back he said he would continue "charging up" our unit until we replace it, he said he's been doing us a favor for long enough and it can't continue. I've also recently learned there are environmental safety guidelines against "charging up" a system on a regular basis and it's extremely unethical that Ecks Air was doing this all these years. This man is very unethical and I would never recommend using Ecks Air.

I don't know how much the other places would charge, but it seemed like Ecks was probably a better value as he charged about what the other people were going to charge just for the service stop. (Prior to Jason coming we had the people who originally installed the system come and check it out and they determined the same fault but we had the feeling we were being rushed into making a decision about replacing it) Everything was delivered on Monday morning by 8am and Brandon & Mat removed the old heater & AC and we had heat again by 3:30 pm. They did a fantastic job with no trace of the old system or work inside or outside the house being visible. Would not hesitate to call them in the future. I called several places, but Alex was the first to respond. Over the coming days, as the callbacks came in, I was told that I'd need to schedule a consultation. In contrast, Alex asked if he could stop by that day or the next. Due to a hectic schedule, I asked a friend to be at the house. Alex was very flexible to coordinate with my stand-in. While I was away, knowing I was unable to talk, Alex texted me pictures of the problem and let me know he'd return shortly (something had frozen solid, so it needed t thaw). When he was done, he texted me that the unit was not leveled properly, and it would probably become a problem in the future. I opted not to have it fixed at that time. My bad. Jump ahead to this year... The AC stopped working again this summer. I called Alex on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, and he got right back to me, offering to come Monday (Memorial Day) morning. Again, I scheduled for a stand in, and Alex made himself available right away. He observed something simple and fixed it right away. He also did a full system check up to make sure all levels were fine and everything was working properly. A few weeks later, there was a completely different problem. It related to the system sitting off-kilter. At this point, he offered a fairly expensive fix, but he said it may work or it may be more of a band aid, as the system will need to be replaced in the coming years anyway because 1) it's run its course, and 2) the type of system will become obsolete in 2020. I was skeptical, so I called my brother who is a contractor in Central PA and has a good HVAC guy. That HVAC guy does work all over the east coast, so he'd have some sense of what's what in Philadelphia. He gave some numbers and ideas, and said that Alex was spot-on with his estimate and the info about the system being obsolete in 2020. Alex was all booked up for the week, so he offered to make the quick fix Monday morning at no cost to hold the system over until he was available the following week to replace the unit. Due to a cancelation, he was able to come today. In addition to the normal work, he had to remove a banister to get the unit to the basement, then he found some 60 gallons of water had condensed and filled some part of the unit, and then he built up an area to make sure the new unit was balanced. He did so much extra work, and then he cleaned it all up. AND THEN, because I was at work, he was able to stop by my workplace on his way home for me to pay him. Really incredible work, incredible availability, and incredible communication. And my brother's guy said he was surprised that the price was as low as it was for being in the city. I expect Alex will get too busy for all of that in the near future, but he's my go to now, and I know I can trust him. Further, he's just really nice. I have enjoyed our communication, and I'm really happy to direct business his way.

She made sure I was aware of the special they were running and assured me there would not be any surprise fees. The technician was on-time, extremely professional, friendly and took extra time to explain things in detail and trouble shoot things with us. We were perplexed as to why our electric bill was so high given that this is a 2 year old unit. He truly went above and beyond and probably spent way more time than is allotted for a routine service with us to figure out the problem - turns out the high density air filter we were using was causing the unit to work much harder than it should without moving much air - never would have figured this out without his help. And, as promised, we were only charged the quoted service fee special. Will not call anyone else for service or maintenance for anything heating or cooling related!

These people are crooks.
