Due to the drought and 3 dogs my backyard had become an eyesore. There was dust in the house, my dogs were tracking in dirt and mud. I decided it was time to invest in pavers and/or artificial turf. I called System Pavers on a Wednesday and was able to get an appointment the following day. Michael Stockwell showed up promptly the next day. I told him my needs and that I was on a tight budget. He answered all my questions, provided valuable information and helped me to decide that artificial turf was my best bet for my needs and budget. The consultation took about 90 minutes. He was able to provide a quote on-site. He came in under budget without hassling or pushing product on me that I could not afford. I was contacted by Erin, my project coordinator the following Wednesday (after a holiday weekend) and was overjoyed to hear that my project could be started on Friday. Sam Salcedo, the project manager, stopped by briefly on Thursday to measure for accuracy. He showed up bright and early Friday morning as promised. And he told me that the job would probably take two days. He explained what I should expect throughout the day and left his business card should I have any questions throughout the day. I was anxious for the job to be finished because I had to keep my dogs in the house all day. Progress moved quickly. Each time I looked out the window, the yard looked better and better. Sam took my request seriously and the entire job was completed early Friday evening. The difference is amazing. I am so happy with the outcome of my yard. I recommend System Pavers to anybody trying to improve their landscaping and add excellent value to their home! So from the day I called for a quote, it was only eight days until the job was finished! Sam came by Tuesday of The following week to make sure the quality of the job met his standards. We had ugly pink hardscape and a dirt pit for a backyard and the kids kept getting hurt or just insanely dirty and tracking that back into the house, so we decided it was time to redo it. We called System Pavers and they had a designer out the next day. Brian was fantastic. Listened to us closely and helped us design our backyard. We got the quote, felt it was reasonable and moved forward. The crew was fantastic! Our foreman was super communicative through the whole process and we knew what was going on every step of the way. They ran into some snags because our old hardscape was rebar reinforced (YIKES!) and because of our skinny side yard everything had to be done by hand (they couldn't get a loader back there). Despite the snags, they were fast and efficient and the end result was fantastic!! The kids are living in the backyard now and my wife is very happy - so a win all around! We did pay for lighting which hasn't come through yet because the lights we wanted were back-ordered, but I'm confident it will be just as good as the rest. Part 2 (of the review from S.A.) We started a handful of days later than expected, due to the careful pacing of the crew we missed our first benchmark and had to postpone mid-project for about a week or so due to a family vacation, and upon resuming the scheduling was subject to the crew's availability again. Also, during this time, there had to be major decisions made about that focal point I mentioned previously in the review. (Okay, this isn't really a review but more of a story, LOL) Upon commencing the project again, there were additional decisions to be made, budgetary considerations, and other factors that influenced the progression of the project. That focal point in the backyard took on a life of its own = more $. Crews: The crews assigned to our project were hard workers, timely, and polite. The main crew, led by Jorge, treated our home as if it was their own. They cleaned up each day and this was important to us as we have young kids. Roger Torres served as our quality control manager and was knowledgeable and directive when needed. His attention to certain details of the project was appreciated. For example, the bullnose coping around the spa had been installed, and we thought it looked good. However, Ryan and Roger knew it could be better. It was pulled up and reinstalled. And, they were right. It did look much better. Artificial turf: Our home already had high grade turf. The crew did their best to be careful with the turf, but inevitably there needed to be maintenance and clean-up, in addition to the regrading of some areas. We appreciated System Pavers commitment to return our perimeter area to the original install quality. Project management: It seems like many people decided to start a project during COVID-19. The project managers at System Pavers were clearly spread thin and this also created a challenge for scheduling crews when needed. Our timeline and need to complete the project was subject to the availability of the crews. Clean up: As mentioned, daily clean-up was always addressed. At the end of the project, there were some 'specialized' clean-up areas that required a more detailed approach. Ryan organized this and assured that all punchlist items were addressed. Politeness: All of the individuals we came into contact with related to this project were consistently polite, even when we had differing opinions. In the end, the customer service provided maintained our needs as the top priority. PortaPotty: Let's be honest, it is completely abnormal to have a porta potty in your front yard yard. Thank you to Ryan for making sure all Porta Potty scheduled maintenance needs were addressed. Waterfalls: That darn focal point wall created a challenge for installing the new waterfalls with current plumbing. While initially we were told it would be adequate, the need to have the area replumbed from the pool equipment became a reality. This was a cost we were not expecting, though we appreciate that the job was given consideration to be done correctly. An outside pool company was utilized for this portion of the job simply to keep our project on schedule. This was scheduled and organized by System Pavers. Somewhere along the line Frank Tolifson, Construction Manager, also joined the fun. He assisted in the review and resource allocation of our final punchlist. Frank is patient, honest, and an all around nice guy. Every dollar we put into this project was hard-earned and we believe that he understood the importance that we have a high-quality finished product that makes us proud to share with family and friends. In summary, the project was well worth the wait. Just look at the pics! We would recommend System Pavers to others, with the understanding that no matter which company you choose, all projects have challenges. - Refused to even come to my property to give me estimate - Rude on the phone - Phone system routes you all over the place A number of us (~32 homeowners) recently received our keys to our brand new construction homes in Irvine and were in need of backyard landscaping. System Pavers had some flyers put out and several of my neighbors got estimates/quotes from them and ultimately used their services. System Pavers even offered multi-home discounts since about 9 homes had used them so I called them to come for an estimate. Immediately I was told they would not "waste their time" coming to my home and I should just "talk to my neighbors" if I wanted to get pricing since "it was all the same". It was a terrible way to treat their potential customers. All of our yards are similar, yet are different sizes and everyone is looking for different landscaping. I was immediately turned off and had no interest in using System Pavers for my landscaping. In fact, I had no problem paying more for another vendor to come out, and I did. They could have made an easy $8-11K from me if they had just sent someone to give me an estimate. In fact, there were two estimate "techs" already in the neighborhood talking to my neighbors when I was on the phone with System Pavers that weekend. They were great! I worked with Jon (sales) Erin (scheduling) and Ryan (project Mgr) and all were outstanding. From the outset... factual.. not a hard sell.. complete information... ... Jon and Ryan both really listened my priorities and needs and always tied their recommendations to those ( even when they had to advise against some ideas I came up with!!) they gently came up with other ideas that worked. REVIEW OF SYSTEMS PAVERS Systems Pavers finished the last of three projects for us on May 9, 2019 demolishing a wooden deck and the underlying cement and installing pavers and an entry stoop and tying everything in with previous work. We chose Systems Pavers because they did two other projects for us spaced several years apart. For the first project in 2008, they turned ugly diamond-shaped cement slabs in the front courtyard into a beautiful entry and entertainment space. For the second project in 2010, Systems Pavers removed aggregate cement from the pool area in the back of our house, replaced it with pavers and added a walkway from the front courtyard to the pool area. It feels like we live in a resort! Each time we hired Systems Pavers all our expectations were met. From the meeting with the designer, Daniel Escoto, to completion, the project was well-orchestrated and timely. There was a crew here every day, the project manager, Peter Tong, kept in daily contact with us, and the work led by Jorge was completed on schedule. The crew is knowledgeable in demolition and installation and made the design work. They show up on time, finish on time, and clean up afterwards. We have not had one problem with Cal-Stone. Peter noticed that the pool had pulled away from the pavers (constant earth movement in California), so he had the crew fill all around it with more sand. The staff is professional and accommodating, and the work is timely. We highly recommend Systems Pavers to anybody who wants to beautify their home using a company that is reliable and professional. read more

We wanted our cracked asphalt driveway ripped up and replaced with pavers. Our relationship started out just a little rocky due to some communication issues. However, that was very quickly resolved and from that point on everyone at System Pavers worked with us to ensure our job proceeded without a hitch. Our driveway was 840 sq. ft. We had them remove a large portion of grass to add a circular design for additional parking. This extended our parking capability from 840 sq. ft. to 1,140 sq. ft. It looks awesome! In addition, they added planter borders in 3 areas, and completely removed our front step in order to pour cement and add the matching brick to the top and front of the new step. The 4 man crew worked very hard on the job and it shows! Also, they were very friendly and really worked hard in our horribly hot San Fernando sun. We purchased System Pavers last summer, and the day they finished the job, there were white stain marks all over the pavers. I thought it might be dirt or dust, but it wouldn't come out. When I called my sales person to complain, she sent me a link on how to remove Efflorescence from Pavers. Seems strange I would spend that kind of money and end up with a defective product. read more

I typically give the benefit of the doubt when I interact with people. Perhaps that's not the best practice. I'll lay out the facts and you decide. Of note I'm rather 'thorough' and I end up learning about a process over time and treat it as if I operate the company myself. As a result the following will get rather technical at times. I'll leave out all the calculations for now. Industry standard for pavers is $5 to $15 per square foot. For artificial grass it's $5 to $20 per square foot. Now anything less than $9 per square foot is suspect, as in they are cutting corners somewhere. Another thing to make sure is that pavers, road base, concrete, geotext, joint sand, dumping fee, fuel, delivery, portapotty, pallets, cleanup, labor, and overhead are all calculated in that and $9 per square foot more than covers it and that with very generous labor fee. Then you assess the profit. 40% is very generous and you're looking at around 12 to 13 per square foot installed. Ok so guess how much system pavers tried to charge me. $32 per square foot even after subtracting the pergola. That nearly a 400% markup. When I called, the design consultant argued that, and I quote, "we are technically a design company that does construction so that's the price difference". I'll leave it up to you if more than twice what other companies charge is fair to you. I've decided it is not. Mind you, I picked out the pavers, I picked out the turf, I told her what I wanted and where I wanted. I don't know exactly what design service I was paying $15000 extra for. On top of that, my backyard is a leveled dirt area. It's a brand new house and builders has leveled and placed drainage to the street. The area is literally a perfect rectangle as well with a gate directly to the work area. It would have been such an easy project. read more

I had artificial grass and a putting green installed by system pavers about 4 years ago. There were some issues with the grading and System Pavers made good on their warranty. Although very busy, their rep Ryan made the time in his busy schedule to get our project back to new. Very grateful and happy to refer System Pavers to friends. read more

I'm happy that I went with a company like System Pavers. They have been in the business for a very long time and the transferable guarantee they offer on their work is very valuable to me. I had broken, buckled and cracked concrete surrounding my home caused by decades of improper drainage and soil not compacted correctly. It was ugly and a trip hazard. System Pavers was able to demo the old concrete and bury my downspouts into the ground. The dug a trench and ran a PVC pipe out to the street, so all water collected on my property now has a place to go. They also removed a cinderblock wall for me so that I could connect the paver path, making a full circle around my house. The crew was extremely hard working, careful and did quality work. They also did a great job cleaning up after themselves. The pavers improved the curb appeal of my home and have added a really beautiful touch to my yard. I am very pleased! read more

Working with System Pavers was a mixed experience. The sales, flexibility, and materials were all top notch. Unfortunately the execution of the project and the overall build quality left much to be desired. Our first concern was the lack of communication about the design before the project started. We supplied some CAD drawings with the general concept of our project in order to communicate our desires. We expected to have someone from System Pavers engage with us about a detailed design, to solve all the details known only to the skilled trades people. For instance, how should grading be handled, or which areas should be leveled. None of this happened, and when the builders arrived, they began work without establishing level and grade, resulting in some work being redone. Our "on site" manager was only on site for an hour every few days, and this person was willing to listen to our concerns and attempt to rectify our issues. But a lot of the responses were lip service and blame deflection, saying things like, "I rely on my foreman to handle that". The foreman was nothing more than an experienced builder and didn't have the tools or training to do proper grading and leveling of our landscape. The build quality was also not up to our expectations. A square perimeter path, encompassing a lawn, is not actually square. The path in front of our house was not leveled and obviously crooked; this we had redone, but it wasn't redone as well as we had expected. We ended up spending a significant amount of time overseeing the work done on our property and performing the role of the site manager ourselves. A number of patterns would have been installed incorrectly if we didn't intervene. And unfortunately we didn't have the energy to ask for all the errors to be corrected. For instance, we elected to keep the out-of-square perimeter path in fear of it being redone square, but with an uneven surface or loose perimeter pavers. Although a lot of negative experiences are expressed in this review, a number of things were done well. Our retaining wall is nicely laid, and our driveway is perfect (after requesting a correction). They spent extra time to install a border around our pea gravel gardening areas which would have been a messy disaster if there was no containment there. And the project coordinator was more than happy to apply adjustments to our plan and get the materials required; for example, we were one block short on our retaining wall and they sourced additional material for us. Overall, the experience was very different from the picture painted by our sales person. And if I had any parting words of advice: I think a more active project coordinator, with an eye for design, and a build foreman with more training in grading and leveling would have made our job perfect. read more

We contacted system pavers several months ago for a decent sized job redoing our entire driveway, path around our house, and backyard area. Every step of the way from planning, design, demo, and execution was a joy. We even threw the team for a loop with a last minute change order and they helped us make up our minds in a day. If you are going to contact System Pavers for an estimate, I highly recommend requesting Michael Skilliter. Although we have to put our project on the back burner for now, I can't say enough good things about the design consultation I had with him. During all of our home improvement projects over the years, I have never had a person invest so much time in working with me to come up with the perfect design plan for my home. He is incredibly patient , and thorough! And not to mention, has an incredible eye for design! As soon as he saw my wood floors in the entrance of my home, he suggested doing timberline, a new paver that looks like wood, on my patio to extend the look of the wood grain. He didn't just hand me a catalogue to show me what it looks like, but instead gave me his iPad so I could easily scroll through examples of it in his massive portfolio of projects he has done before. I was completely sold on all of his ideas. I could tell Michael is really passionate about his craft and really cares about his clients and manifesting their ultimate vision. In other words, it didn't feel like I was meeting with just another sales associate of a large company, but a personable landscape designer who loves what he does and knows how to work with, and enhance your vision. System Pavers is the WORST. I've had a 1 year home renovation project and at the very end of everything I hired System pavers to complete the outside hardscape. They put and outstanding sales show for you BUT the quality of their project managers and communication to the construction team and me the client was a GRAVE DISAPPOINTMENT When i hired System Pavers to work on my backyard project they were more expensive then all the other quotes. The sales team is exceptionally well trained and they produced an elegant proposal and plan that i was very comfortable with. Of which I admired the professionalism so committed to move forward with them. Until the day came and the Project managers review the project and the install team came. Things tragically went bad very quick. Let me preface that I come from the construction / design industry and i deal with headaches all the time. But 1st mistake i understand and I'm reasonable. 2nd mistake I'm now on alert by the time I'm on the 3rd mistake if I'm paying a premium for something I expect service and these guys were an epic disappointment that I I honestly had no more patients for empty promises. During my project the drainage was miscalculated and by the 3rd visit they (after the demolition) these are are attempting to damage control what was poor drainage design. IN addition, these guys do not do any type of plumbing and while the ground soil was up I wanted to run a new gas line to my fire pit. I met their expectation having a plumber on site during the demolition and they attempt to get additional money out of me cause they didn't want the construction crew sitting around waiting. When it was CLEARLY communicated they they do NOT perform any type of plumbing. So now they expected me to to have a plumbing crew waiting for their team to do what they need to do and not have their guys waiting while the plumber does his job? What a joke! They left upon kicking them off my property. They filed a Mechanics lien on my property without even deducting the original money I paid them. Now I have to get my lawyers involved. There has been no attempt after that day to try and remedy the situation. I'm happy to pay premiums for quality service. But 3rd time you make a BIG mistake is a SERIOUS issues and i shouldn't have to be fully responsible for such a poor management. Further more as I started to tell friends about what happened I found out that another friend of mine did a full backyard project in Redondo Beach with System Pavers and he had drainage issues and system pavers never responded to any of his request to honor their "warranty". Phones calls were made but it was like PULLING TEETH to get these guys to fix the issue. After I heard this story and what i was dealing with on the drainage I requested that they either adjust the price to satisfy my concern or lets part ways. They were not receptive. And FYI my project was tiny, less then 800sq Ft of hardscape and I couldn't be more disappointed. BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!! I wouldn't want anyone to go thru what I did with System Pavers its just not right if you are going to pay a premium.... read more

WOW! This company must not need the business! We scheduled an appointment two weeks ago for Saturday morning. The salesman didn't show! Said he was "Sick" when WE contacted the company later that morning and got the dispatcher on the phone! Only explanation... dispatcher said "He tried to leave a message!" Below is a letter I sent to System Pavers after an awful experience with the company. Unfortunately, I received no response. We recently decided to give them another chance and had a similar experience. It seems that there is a definite disconnect between the contractor and the people who actually do the work. Poor management. That is what is leading me to post this review: April 16, 2011 To Whom It May Concern: On February 23rd, 2011, System Pavers started a project in our backyard, which consisted of installation of some artificial turf, pavers, a fire pit and a semi-circular 8-foot wall. This is not the first time we have hired System Pavers. We have spent nearly $80,000 with this company. Several years ago they installed a new driveway, sidewalk, patio and walkway in both front and backyards of our property and everything went fairly well. Unfortunately, this time, it was not the case. I will list the problems we had in this situation numerically, since there were so many, making it easy for you to reference. 1. The first morning of work, a truck arrived at 6:45am to deliver the pavers. No one from System Pavers was here to supervise the delivery. The driver had to use a Bobcat to move pavers from the truck to our driveway and in doing so, blocked our garage doors with pavers so we could not use one garage for a week. 2. The pavers that were delivered that morning were the wrong ones. So, work had to stop and the project was automatically behind schedule. The correct pavers arrived 3 days later. Again, no one was here when the truck arrived at 7am. 3. As the artificial turf was being installed, any leftover turf was being dumped into our green garbage cans, which are only to be used for REAL greens, not artificial. When our garbage bins were full, I watched as 2 of the System Pavers workers walked to the neighbors' cans, which happened to be on the street, and dumped more leftover turf into their green cans. 4. We were told by our System Pavers sales rep, Jeff Geer, that the company would also provide us with gravel to place around several trees and along a retaining wall in our backyard. When I asked where it was, the Field Supervisor, Estella, told me that WE were to provide the gravel and they would place it for us. I declined and later, bought it and placed it myself. 5. Jeff Geer also told us that we would have a fire pit installed. We hired a plumber to lay the gas line as directed by both Jeff and Estella, which he did. The Systems Paver workers then built us a pit of pavers and brick, which looked really nice, but was not a finished fire pit. When we asked when the pit would be finished, i.e. with a fire ring, lava rock and fire glass installed, we were told by Estella that System Pavers does not do that work. The morning after all of the work was finished, we called Estella, who was so rarely present that it's really no wonder so much went wrong, to let her know that we would do a walk-through of the work and call if we had comments or questions. As we started our walk-through, my husband and I both noticed the smell of urine near the work site. And then we saw the urine, running down a wall that was built around our heating unit for our hot tub. So, for 2 and 1/2 weeks, 6 male Systems Paver workers decided it best to urinate in our yard instead of ring a doorbell and ask to use a bathroom. Wait, let me correct that. They urinated on cement, not even in the yard, as if that would be any better. We called Estella immediately and after she told us that this was not the first time she has had complaints of this sort, she sent Oscar, the crew chief, with a bottle of disinfectant, to clean the area. He did so and left. After the last problem, we decided to talk with a manager. Estella gave us the number of Tom. My husband, Rich, spoke with Tom about all of our issues and Tom agreed to have the workers come back and complete the fire pit with gravel, a ring and fire glass, which they did, a week later. However, they arrived with not enough glass to fill the pit, and we had to order more ourselves. Tom agreed to pay for the extra fire glass. He also sent us a check for $1300, to cover a $5600 discrepancy that we were charged as a result of Jeff Geer not showing us all options of the look and color of the artificial turf. By the way, System Pavers also did our pool. When the tile arrived, they installed it incorrectly and Estella said to me, "I wondered why we had so much tile left over." It's inexcusable. I felt it important to make you aware of this situation since unfortunately, we will not be using System Pavers in the future. We have always been impressed with the actual masonry work, but all things considered, it's not worth the cost and headaches involved. read more

I decided to go with System Pavers for my "very" neglected back yard, after checking out the price of cement work, workers, & lack of any type of guarantee/warranty on cement work. The warranty that System Pavers offers on pavers (25 yrs) & turf (10 yrs) is fantastic! I doubt you will find anything better! Chris Van Rossum was my initial contact with System Pavers, & he was very knowledgeable & explained each detail to me & then to my husband. Mark Trojanowski was project manager & was here every morning to check the work being done each day. Isaac was lead worker of 3 men & the 3 of them work very hard & do a great job! We used System Pavers for our full backyard remodel. Pavers, patio covers, fire pit, free standing barb b q, landscape design and a paved out basketball court with a custom Laker logo engraved in the pavers. I will say first this isn't the cheapest company out there, however I felt the quality of work and crew I was able to work with helped me swallow up the fact that it was on the higher priced side. The crew that was assigned to our project worked long days here and always kept it clean after they worked. Our project manager Ryan M. was amazing. He was able to put up with all of my annoying questions each week, and was really good about keeping in communication with us. My kids loved when Ryan would come by and visit the project. He became like family by the end since our project lasted extra weeks because we began in the rain season that seemed to last forever!! We get nothing but compliments on our new gorgeous backyard! Met with Scot Birrell and not only was he friendly and personable, he came prepared and proved very knowledgeable about his product, his designs and the restrictions of this community. He's experienced and professional. Once we started discussing what we envisioned for our small backyard Scot quickly grasped our concept and came up with some very smart suggestions. What an incredible experience. We had a big job, a complete backyard remodel, and a complete front yard remodel, including expanding our driveway and adding a retaining wall. It began with Jon, our design consultant, who showed up for our initial consultation exactly on time. Jon spent 4 1/2 hours at our house. He told us about the company, went over how the entire process would go, and all the steps they take. Then he showed us all our options, gave us recommendations, and answered all our questions. Then he went outside and measured our property, drew up detailed diagrams, and gave us our quote. I had researched what pavers should cost, and it's a wide range. System Pavers, being the giant in the industry, I expected them to be at the top of that range. We were very surprised how reasonable the quote was. We were so impressed with the whole package, we signed the contract that night. Sam, our Project Manager was great. He was here on site almost every day, making sure the project was on track, keeping us informed on everything that was going on, coordinating the material deliveries, and making great suggestions along the way. Sonovio the foreman, and his crew were fantastic. We had the same crew every day, they worked so hard, for 10 or 11 hours a day. I can't say enough about the workmanship, and attention to detail that they put into their work. I had some artificial turf installed by System Pavers a number of years ago. The turf didn't hold up to the warranty and was replaced by System Pavers, they did a tremendous job. When I called regarding the turf I was connected to Sam Salcedo as the Project Manager. Sam has been great to work with. Sam has kept us informed every step of the way and let us know when the turf company approved replacing the faulty turf. Sam paved the way for getting a project team available for the replacement effort and we couldn't have asked for a better liaison. The crew that arrived to perform the work was tremendous. The team consisted of Chris, Dennis, Alexis, David and Alex. They took extreme care of our property, were very pleasant and professional while working in some extreme heat. Every aspect of their effort was top notch, and I couldn't have asked for a better representation of a team effort. As they got further into their work, they cleaned as they went, paid attention to the most minute detail. They did the driveway, walkway and front porch entry. They are not the cheapest option but definitively worth the investment. Very professional from start to finish. Kris was the front end sales consultant and did a great job laying things out and helping with the choice of pavers. We had issues with the approval process from the HOA and Kris personally want down to the homeowners association and walked through the paperwork and got the approval done. Travis came on board once the job got started. He was very professional as well, walking through each part if the process and dealing with any concerns I had. He got the job complete a couple of days early and done right. The install team was very clean and seemed to love their work. The attention to detail was awesome.
