We stopped in San Miguel today for lunch at Taco Mafia on our way back home. It looked inviting with nice outdoor seating so we went inside. The interior is colorful with painted chairs and nice generous booths. We got served immediately and they told us the specials. I ordered the Carnitas tacos and my husband ordered a shrimp taco and a beef taco. The carnitas were stuffed with meat as was the beef taco and the shrimp in the taco were large. The beans and rice are also excellent. The service was great and the portions are generous and the restaurant is spotless. We'll be back again. read more

Saw the reviews here and stopped in for a quick lunch. Neither the burrito (completely over salted and overcooked meat) nor the tacos (again, over cooked meat and flavorless tortillas) were good. Yelp lists "Vegan options" and "Many Vegetarian Options" as descriptions for this restaurant. We were told after being seated that "basically nothing is vegetarian--not the rice, not the beans, even the tortilla chips are not vegetarian--they are all cooked with animal fat." Sadly, we left. Our waitress was very friendly. The patio dining area was satisfactory and our dog was able to sit with us. I feel that the misleading "vegan/vegetarian" Yelp descriptors do not deserve even 1 star. The only thing I can rate is the service and outside/patio dining area so 3+ stars for that. read more

This started out as a stop off the highway for food. It is now a must have on every trip! The salsa that came with the chips was that sweet savory hot that does not burn your tongue, but leaves you wanting more. The Mafia burrito was huge! If you want good portions come to Taco Mafia! Fast, fresh, delicious food and friendly service. We are unable to drive past this restaurant while traveling on 101! The salsa they serve is the best we've ever had, and that says a lot! My husband usually gets the chili verde or carnitas plate with rice and beans. He thoroughly enjoys it. I've had the avocado taco, cheese enchiladas, bean tostada and rice and beans, all of it prepared perfectly. Taco Mafia is a clean, comfortable and welcoming restaurant. This spot is open late for take-out! We pulled off the 101 craving micheladas after a long drive and thus place did not dissapoint. In addition we ordered the shrimp tacos and the ceviche de Pescado both were delicious and came in huge portions. I would have taken photos had we not devoured our food in 5 mins lol. Near the mission in this little town. Fantastic food and a nice patio. We were lucky to find. Dog friendly. The nice gal brought out some water for our dog. We were going to get it "to go," but ended up on the patio. Large portions so keep that in mind. Save some for later and enjoy it twice. read more

I've been twice recently . The food here is so good it was fresh hearty portions . The shrimp was cooked to perfection the carnitas were so juicy just yummy . The service was great friendly servers , attentive and polite . You can dine in or out they have umbrellas so if it's not too hot you can dine outside out of direct sunlight. I'm new to the area and wanted to get some Mexican. I should've walked over if I knew the serving size would be huge! I was greeted by the nice server and was told to sit anywhere. The AC in this place works as it felt like I sat directly under the blower. Good thing I got the Chili Relleno (wasn't spicy) to heat me up lol. The portion was huge and eating it all pretty much put me in a coma. It was delicious, dos thumbs up to the chef! Stumbled on Taco Mafia on our road trip to Monterrey from Venice Beach. Good tasting food, big portions.

As some reviewers have noted, the food is inconsistent. It was better when I was there back in December of 2021. My main comment is that it is pretty high priced for just average / OK low taste food. The lunch 2-item combo plate is now $ 18.95. Really? Add a soft drink and the ticket for one person is $ 23.95 before tip. This is more than it would cost me to eat in a world class cafe up the coast that is in a high rent district. This is not San Francisco or a trendy big city bistro. As far as the food, what I ordered, combo # 2, taco and enchilada, lacked taste and I didn't think the portions were particularly big. Yes, the chips are very salty. Annoying was that the employees kept leaving the front door open, which allowed flies in. I like to eat in peace without swatting flies away constantly. I know this is somewhat beyond the control of the staff, but if you leave the front door open, well, you are aggravating the situation. My meal was served quickly and efficiently and the staff is friendly. I was the only person there at noon on a Saturday, a bit odd. Bottom line is: Overpriced average Mexican food, but where else are you going to eat in San Miguel ? I would eat there again if I were really hungry and didn't want to wait to get to Paso Robles, and didn't care about what it cost. read more

Get out of San Luis Obispo and come eat here. This place is authentic. The service is extremely friendly and happy to see you. It's clean, and has a wonderful atmosphere. Their outside patio is also really neat! Now let's get to the down and dirty. The good stuff. First of all, their chips are definitely homemade and boy are they fresh. Their salsa is absolutely some of the best I've ever had. You can taste every single ingredient in it, as it should be. I had the large carnitas burrito which comes wet in red enchilada sauce and all I can say is wow. I had been here before but not in a couple of years. To me it seems like the food has improved! We usually sit inside but it was unusually nice outside for an October evening. So we sat in the outside dining area. That turned out to be a great call. They were not too busy but apparently they had some big phone in orders. That slowed our order down by quite a bit but in this case, that was perfectly fine. . Trust me, the food was definitely worth the wait. They offer you the complimentary chips and salsa. Both good and flavorful. I don't think the chips were freshly made but still good. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very inviting too. There was only one waitress and one busser working but they were hustling and doing a great job. The cook, Ben was cranking out some dang good food too. So delicious! My wife and I had to go in and compliment him on the great food when we were done eating. He definitely deserved it! The portions were huge and I definitely felt like I got my monies worth. Seafood in San Miguel! By far the best ceviche I've had in years. It's worth the 22 bucks and can easily serve 4 people as an appetizer or 2 people as a meal. Salsa is red, chunky, and roasty. The chips are nice and thick--not the paper thin greasy ones you find at Que Pasa. I devoured two fish tacos--grilled fish atop fresh corn tortillas and mixed with mild spices. Tacos were only $3.50 each and very flavorful. My friend ordered a carnitas burrito that was bigger than his head on a non-ego day. This place is known for gigantic burritos. I accosted the chef to tell him how great his ceviche was, and he gave us a sample of grilled pulpo. Very tasty tentacles! Great selection of Mexican beers to wash down the grub. Dog friendly patio and easy motorcycle parking in front to show off your rig to other diners. San Miguel is not known for fine dining. So, Taco Mafia was an awesome surprise. read more

Stop by after drinking a bunch of wine at Hearst Ranch winery. It was close by and we had the munchies so this place definitely fit the bill. Tried the beef and chicken crispy taco plate with rice and beans which was excellent.
