Great food here, usually not too long of a wait. My boyfriend and I come in here rather often, and because we both have had service industry jobs are usually as polite and patient as possible. However, the other day, we went in to pick up an order and had terrible service. The girl at the front desk was horribly rude, gave us the wrong food, and gave me a dirty look when I asked how her day was going. Bathrooms closed because of covid, so we checked out the consignment store right next door. They had some pretty neat things. Make sure you take an antacid before you eat. The Sonora burrito had a chile relleno and a meat, was freakin huge. The chile verde was beans, rice and small chunks or chile verde. The girl up front wouldn't know what good customer service was if it slapped her in the face, we tried to call in an order and no one answered so we went in to order to go and it was the slowest service of my life, I think my nana turned over in her grave by the time we got our food. I have tried this place a couple of times and have not been impressed. I kept on thinking I was ordering the wrong thing or ordering on a day when the quality was lower for whatever circumstances, however, this is it. Here is a review of my past experiences First time I ordered the crispy taquitos, they turned out to be nothing more than the frozen taquitos you can buy at costco, extreme disappointment but for $7 I thought it was my fault but not realizing what I was getting. Second time I got the fish tacos. The Batter overwhelmed the piece of fish and both tacos only had ONE piece of fish. BAD BAD BAD. Today I ordered a regular burrito. Requested "light" on the beans and no salsa, I was warned it would have cilantro and onion, fine, I will deal with those, was not told a regular burrito comes with guacamole, and they put NO beans whatsoever, basically it was a massive flour tortilla taco with tons of meat, very little rice and no beans, its in the trash as we speak. I think I gave this place so many chances and was let down EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. Save your money and go downtown or the taco truck. read more

Some of the best Mexican food in Sonora, but it's EXTREMELY frustrating that the hours posted on yelp and on their door of the store are NOT the hours they operate. They often decide to close early for no reason. Last night I tried calling at 6pm, as their yelp page says they close at 8, and they did not answer. We went in for lunch around 1:30 and there was quite a line waiting to order, which I took as a good sign It wasn't. The place was way understaffed. They were out of two of the things I tried to order. There were way too many questions asked at the register, half of them unintelligible. I started guessing at the meaning and giving answers at random just to get it over with after the long wait in line. I understand restaurants have to cater to fussy, self-important patrons, but let's not encourage that. I don't like being quizzed at the order counter personally. He could have asked me if I wanted a side of stink bugs and I would have said yes to get it over with. There wasn't enough seating, though we had plenty of time to wait. The food didn't come out for 45 minutes. Lots of people were waiting. When the food finally arrived it tasted good. The tamale was excellent though skimpy for the price. The burritos aren't ones you can pick up, they're too floppy. You eat them with a knife and fork. Plenty of flour dough left over on the plate. One of the burritos had "potato" in it which turned out to be french fries. In a burrito! The workers were friendly and were hustling but just weren't able to keep up with the volume if business. This is like a taco truck with a clean bathroom and air conditioning. Our families favorite Mexican food. The cheese wasnt melted and my enchilada was cold after waiting 20 minutes. I ordered the daily special and they ran out of it. Warmed it up at home and it is good... but I shouldn't have to warm it up. The special was a cheese enchilada and chili relleno. They ran out before 2pm of the relleno and I had to substitute something else. Chips and salsa are $1.75. They're hot and taste-y... but this was my second visit and I'll drive the extra miles for Sonora Taqueria next time. Previous visit I got a sope that was too tough to eat. This is our favorite taco shop in Sonora. They are always consistently good and offer great portion sizes for an even better price. I like to get the el Rey special, the burrito is huge and I love that they don't skimp on the avocado. My husband gets the tacos and we love that they come with all the fixings. First time here! We ordered the Sonora Burrito with black beans: filled with two chili rellenos, carne asada, beans and rice. For starters, it's enormous! Lightly griddled so the tortilla wrapper has crispy areas. Packed with flavorful fillings, but not particularly spicy or juicy. There's a good assortment of sauces and garnishes available to kick it up. Would have liked the option of a bit of extra cheese, crema, pico de gallo, and shredded lettuce to add textural variety to the burrito. Nonetheless, it's the best Mexican food we've had in Sonora. This is by far the best Mexican food in Tuolumne county. Their food is always fresh and everything here is delicious. Portion sizes are huge and prices are great. Fish tacos, carne asada fries, and the carnitas burrito are some of our favorites. They also have a huge vegetarian selection. Not only do they make amazing food, their staffing is always so kind and helpful. They support local first responders and show their appreciation for their customers.
