A few of our San Francisco employees came to Austin for a week and each day we have been ordering food for the team. I suggested we order Taco Deli today and it didn't go as planned. It was a pretty large order so we double and triple checked just to make sure we didn't miss anyone's food. Once I got there to pick up our order, they handed me a large bag and a cup for a soft drink. I asked if the Doña salsa was in the bag and the guy said he was not sure so he grabbed a few and placed in the bag. I asked if our three cookies were there and he said they were. Once I arrived at the office, we noticed that not only we were missing 3 cookies but there were also two tacos missing. We were given one taco that we did not order so perhaps they got our order confused. But it seems hard to believe since everything else was right. We had a meeting starting at 12:30 pm and arrived with the lunch at 12:25 pm so we had to wait until the meeting was over to call the restaurant. The lady I spoke to was super apologetic but unfortunately, one person did not get to eat. I'm still giving them 2 stars because I did get to eat and my guacamole and my Mexico City Sirloin were as good as ever. It just sucks that not everyone got the same experience. read more

Was in Austin and had some time for some tacos so gave tacodeli a try given it seems to be a "must have" chain. This joint is located right in downtown and they have a pretty eclectic menu of options. The joint itself has quick and friendly service and are cranking out some pretty solid tacos for a "Fast food" joint. The food is creative and solid across the board. I will say some of the tacos were a bit heavy on the salt... but it's a minor complaint. The queso is BOMB and legit. Something I could eat all day if only my waistline would permit me. Its definitely a solid spot to grab a quick bite and to chomp down some tacos with creative ingredient combinations. Def will hit it back up (especially for that queso) in the future. read more

Have tried 2 locations so far and they were both really good. We got some in the airport and also when we were downtown. The tortillas are the perfect texture and thickness and both times the ingredients were really fresh. I've yet to try any of the tacos besides the breakfast ones but looking forward to going back again soon. We love breakfast tacos and had already read about the wonderful tacos in Austin. So this day we went to Taco Deli. This was our first trip to Austin and we certainly didn't realize how busy the city was. While this Tacodeli was in a great location, there was very little if any street parking as we ended up parking in the ramp. We found our way downstairs to a very busy location. We checked out the menu ahead of time and ordered the Otto, Jess Special, Freakin Vegan and we had to try this Migas thing. They also served aqua frescas which are one of my favs! Service was very friendly and very efficient. Once you place your order they deliver your order and then pick it up when you're done. There was a fresh salsa bar with tasty salsas. Too bad for me I missed the heat rating and learned the hard way to lightly taste before suffering the burn of a HOT salsa. For the record the roasted orange colored was my fav. That green salsa is hot. The tacos were really good. Bacon, avocado and eggs. What's not to like. The migas, wow much better than we thought it would be. I mean mixing chips with your eggs. Where has this been all my life. I had a watermelon fresca which I finished all too quickly. My only disappointment was not being here for lunch as I would have loved to try their picadillo taco. Reviewing a taco place in Austin is like reviewing a winery in Napa or a priest in Rome. This is where Tacos live and work. You have to be damn good and Taco Deli definitely is. We tested a full half the menu, including a soup and a salad and loved everything we tried. Fair warning, some of the tacos, and the guac, are spicy for some. I love heat, so my heart was full. And, since its priced very well, my Visa account was still plenty full when we were done. If you want a chill, low key place with great service and consistently solid food, Taco Deli is it. But wait. You're probably wondering why just 4 stars. Alas, the chicken tortilla soup, while good, wasn't great. Wow, never experienced anything like this any of the times I have been to Tacodeli. Then again, it could be since I always go to the one on Burnet Road, the Crestview location. This was a first and last. Came in on New Years Eve for lunch. It was about 1pm, not super busy but most of the tables were taken. We are in line for a few minutes and when it comes to our turn, we tell the guy what we want. After inserting the credit card, he says, they don't have queso anymore. So he goes back in and takes the charge off the bill. Super disappointed (I visit Texas once a year for this) and we go find a table. New customers are coming in and bringing to the table queso. Almost every single new person finding a table has queso! What the heck happened? So 20 minutes go by and a bunch of people that came after us have already received their food and are enjoying it. My boyfriend gets up and tries to figure out what happened. I guess when the cashier guy took the queso they supposedly didn't have off the bill, the orders never went through to the back. So not only did we not get queso, we waited forever... So we wait a bunch more minutes...and the guy comes back and says that the special taco (special of the day) we ordered was sold out. Seriously?! We don't even live anywhere close to a Tacodeli and always make sure we make one trip to Tacodeli! Super obsessed with the Dona. So after many more minutes, we finally get our tacos. But of course, it's wrong. They forgot the alternate taco order (since the special was sold out). And for me, my tacos were on flour instead of corn. At this point I can't even wait any longer...I'm starving...so I just eat the inside of the taco...didn't touch the flour tortilla. By the way, the Shrimposito was so oily...is that how it normally is? The Cowboy is always consistently delicious! Not once did they try to make it right after fail after fail and all that time waiting. These people know about tacos. Food is creative, tasty, well-priced and prepared by a friendly team. But it's downtown Austin, so parking is an issue to consider seriously if you're bringing a vehicle. We wanted their tacos on a weekend. No parallel street parking was available on a Saturday lunchtime, so we turned into one of the pay lots across the street. Minimum charge was 2 hours/$20.! Turns out that on the weekend you can get the restaurant to validate free parking in the multistory car park in their building - which is great. It's just not well-known or obvious. read more

This is honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I rarely use Yelp, but I couldn't stay silent after this disaster. I paid an outrageous $18 for three so-called "sirloin, egg, and cheese" tacos with an added sour cream. To call the amount of sirloin in these tacos minuscule would be an overstatement. One of my tacos had a whopping 2 tiny cubes of sirloin, and the rest were just as stingy. Not to mention the sirloin in these tacos is apparently what justifies the price. This place managed to disappoint me even further by serving the added sour cream as a massive, overbearing glob squished onto the very end of every taco. These were the most expensive tacos I've ever tried, but they turned out to be a complete rip-off. For a $6 taco, you'd expect a lot more value and quality. Save your money read more

Loved the breakfast Tacos! I "built my own" but the menu items are delicious looking too. Ingredients are fresh with quality, preparation is excellent. Salsa bar is not that exhaustive, but what they have is great, and will please discriminating Taco fan pallets. Coffee is great too, quality brews in "pour yourself" carafes. Only reason for 4 v. 5 star is I with we'd get two slices of bacon per taco vs one, and fresh cream for coffee would be a small extra plus. I'm getting picky. But honesty this place is great. Absolutely delicious breakfast tacos! As a vegetarian I was pleased to see an entire vegetarian section and the create your own tacos allowed for both vegan and vegetarian versions. I made an iced tea lemonade with the prickly pear lemonade and it was wonderful and unique. Will definitely be coming back on future trips to Austin. read more

I asked why 4 tacos would take 30 minutes to be ready and the guy behind the counter just arrogantly blurts out "it's the busiest morning of the week." Truth is they were too busy working on their on line orders and totally neglecting the people that were already sitting in their dining room waiting for their food. The wait and silly reason for the long wait were bad enough but the attitude given by the person who seemed like the manager was over the top. Not sure where the 5 star reviews are coming from. The tacos are overpriced, and they screwedup my order both times I've visited. First time here, I ordered curbside and sat out there for a half hour because their system would not allow me to enter my vehicle. When I finally got my order, it was wrong. Do not fall for the availability of curbside pickup downtown. You're supposed to put your flashers on and wait on a busy two-lane downtown Street. But you keep holding up traffic and then parking enforcement comes and kicks you out - so you have to go around the block multiple times missing the person who's got your tacos.
