First impressions - N/A because I ordered delivery... but the menu looks amazing so I'm planning to go after work one day The Nom - I ordered 2X the meat taco platter for a Christmas work party since my coworkers and I were stuck at the hospital working the holiday... I asked the restaurant to separate the pork items from the non-pork meats due to some of my coworkers having dietary restrictions and they were so kind to do it. I had the al pastor, the chorizo, and cecina. The meat was so tender and well seasoned. The sauces gave it a nice kick. I loved that they used only one tortilla because two can be too much. The only complaint I had was that the tortilla was a bit stiff and stale tasting... not sure if it was meant to be that way but they held up really well and didn't fall apart on the delivery route or after we slathered lime and sauce on our tacos. In conclusion - yes, would recommend this place. I'm used to the amazing tacos from back home in California but this one is not too bad! He did send it back thinking the veggie would be better. Well it wasn't good either! Maybe there was a 1/2 cup of minced vegetables between the 3 enchiladas. There's a reason this place is never busy...I live across the street and honestly knew better so I blame myself. Went for a Knicks watch party last night with some friends, we ordered guac & chips, dish of 5 tacos and we all got specialty drinks. Drinks were tasty but a bit too sweet for me. I ordered a glass of prosecco for my next beverage. I took one sip and could barely get it down, it burned my throat and I knew I had been served some garbage "prosecco" for $12. In an effort not to draw attention, I brought the glass inside to the bar and found my server, asked for something else as this was literally undrinkable. The manager stepped in and nastily exclaimed that I should have read the fine print, no exchanges. With a little back and forth she took my drink from me and agreed to swap it for a rosé. Fine. When I said I'd wait at the bar for it she insisted I couldn't and that she would bring it to me. I don't think so...I could only imagine what would've gone into that glass. Since she wouldn't take the prosecco off the bill I took it back. When the bill came they tried to overcharge us by adding a second guac & chips as well as an additional specialty drink! To the management...do better. Is a $12 glass of prosecco which probably came out of a $6 bottle really worth losing four locals who live within two blocks of your always slow business? read more

It was my first time here yesterday which was cinco de mayo. First impression of this place didn't really strike me as so wonderful. I had asked to wait for a table outside and the hostess said it was quicker wait for outside than in. When they called us it ended up we were inside. The indoor part is a lot smaller than I thought. We were placed right next to the entrance to the bar and there was a bucket of some cleaning solution next to us so all I could really smell was that. I know it was a crazy busy time but the waiters and waitresses did not seem too helpful and my friend tried to ask them a question and no one really answered her. We really enjoyed our meal at Tacos & Tequila. We came here on a Saturday night as we wanted a local Mexican spot. Ambiance: The restaurant looks a lot smaller than it actually is. There is a back section that is very cutely decorated and feels very in theme with a Mexican spot. Drinks: They have a lot of drink options and they are definitely strong drinks. Our margaritas were very reasonably priced and considering they were strong and also delicious, we had no complaints. They also have "large" size drinks. We didn't try it this time but plan to the next time we go back. My husband also commented that he loves places that will give you a iced beer glass. He was very happy when he got his bottle of beer but then had an iced glass to pour it into. Food: The menu is very extensive and there are a lot of different food options. As a vegetarian I was very impressed with the amount of veggie options that existed. They also had soyrizo, veggie tinga, and veggie pastor. I have yet to find all three at any Mexican spot in the city. I could not have been happier with all the options to pick from. The food was delicious and tasted fresh. We had the flautas, tostadas, and street tacos. All three entrees were well seasoned and tasted great. They also gave us salsas and one of them was so perfectly spicy, I was happy. After eating at so many Mexican restaurants in New York City, I find it hard to discern some of the top establishments from the others given the ubiquitous nature of food options present on every menu. I found this restaurant to be average, possibly due to the combination of vegetables next with my fajitas and lack of flair, coming with each dish. The location is great, located close to a big park and equidistant to other parks where you can walk off and have a meal. There is outdoor seating available when the weather is nice, and staff are friendly, making your ordering process quite easy and fast. The veggie fajitas were really good, but I wasn't a fan of having kernels of corn mixed in with the peppers, onions, and other standard veggies that come with this dish, traditionally speaking. I want to start this review off by apologizing to my waiter - my grandmother is racist and does not know proper restaurant etiquette. I am still traumatized from her behavior. Moving on, the food was DELICIOUS! I ordered the Veggie sopes, described as veggie tinga, mushroom, avocado & cheese, chorizo veggie, seasonal veggies, or al pastor veggie. It came with 3 sopes for $21.95. I think I got 2 tinga and 1 chorizo if I recall correctly. The greens on top were rather overwhelming because I could not see the sope at all and they all ended up just falling off when I picked them up. Perhaps they were going to go bad soon, so they just used them all up. To conclude, I really enjoyed this spot! The decor was gorgeous, quirky, and fun! This became one of my favorite places to eat while I lived in New York for a bit. Their drinks are spectacular and worth the money. And the food is amazing and to die for. Service is great as well! We tried their tacos, enchiladas, flautas, guacamole and chips, and regular nachos. Everything was delicious and has great authentic flavor. I tried the al pastor, carnitas, beef, and chicken tacos. My favorite was the chicken since the meat was grilled crispy on the outside but so tender and moist on the inside. The rest of the tacos were also very good! The chips are fresh and the salsa is delicious. Less thick than I'm used to but the flavor was spot on. Get the guacamole with some spice. Mild just wasn't cutting it flavor-wise. The spice is where the flavor is at. I got the grilled beef quesadilla. The tortilla was thicker and pretty much like my Mom's pan fried corn bread. It took me back. I could have used either more cheese or a different type of cheese, but I'm a cheese freak and "too much" is not in my vocabulary. I wonder now if I could have added sautéed onions because that would have been bomb. The rice & beans were outstanding. I could have eaten a whole bowl. I came here with my parents and I really was a little skeptical about not to know what to expect however it was pretty awesome, we sat outside to enjoy the fresh air. We came during happy hour and got a delicious lychee margarita that was very tasty, my mom had this well presented michelada she loved it and she's very picky. I got the tortilla soup and it was really good and I order for my main 3 steak tacos that were very tasty. My mother order the seafood soup and she loved it not salty not spicy just perfect with all the condiments on the side. Oh, I definitely thought I wrote a review for tacos & tequila but apparently not. High-key, I love their tacos. They're basically street tacos. So think protein, onions, and some cilantro. You can get them the more American way with cheese, tomatoes etc but I'm a fan of their authentic style. They have a WIDE range of proteins to choose from. Every time I've been there, they were clearly freshly prepared, full of flavor, and tortillas made from perfection. I like to sit at the bar and enjoy chatting with their incredibly kind bartenders. Tacos and tequila officially has my favorite margaritas in New York City. Their frozen tamarind margarita is honestly insanely delicious and their mango Chamoye margarita is also amazing. The food is great and they have a full menu so whatever your standard Mexican order is they will have it here. Staff is always really nice and service is quick, only thing I will note is that the restaurant is pretty small so keep that in mind if you have a big group but I've usually been seated within 15 minutes whenever I have gone. This place simply doesn't care. The food is decent but it's obvious that they don't care for their customers and that really sucks. I placed an order for two burritos and some fries. Total came out to $50, I know at this point that the price for tacos and tequila is a bit higher than average, I've never complained. Well tonight i was craving some fries with the order and saw that the price was $9 and change for a side of fries. i said "ok no worries I'm sure it's at least worth it." i pickup the order and the fries are half an ounce of microwaved crinkle cut fries. I was baffled. Regardless, i was sure if i reached out to my server that maybe they'd care and at least top me off with some more fries or offer a refund. I went back to the restaurant and they wanted nothing to do with the order. No explanation except "thats what you get for $9" I simply won't come back. I am a local of this place now lol! The tacos here are by far the most authentic and closest you will get to real Mexican food. The margaritas are also delicious, and I usually come here and eat the tacos and get a drink at the bar.
