The food at Tacos El Gordo is always good, but the customer service at this location is consistently disappointing. I always go here because the food is great, but the staff is very rude. We ordered a lot of tacos and campechana through the drive‑thru and politely asked for three avocado sauces and the red sauce. When they brought our food to the parking lot, we noticed they only gave us one of each. I went inside to ask for more, but the ladies working there were extremely rude. They gave me attitude right away and asked, "Where's your order?" I explained that we ordered through the drive‑thru and I just stepped inside to ask for extra sauce. They kept saying "No puede, no puede," and talking in Spanish with attitude. Someone tried to translate, but they still didn't give me any real explanation -- just "no puede." We bought a lot of food, and getting only one sauce each is unreasonable. Their food is good, and customers love the sauces too. I hope they fix their staff's attitude because this location is very stingy compared to the one on Broadway, where they always give plenty. I usually let things like this slide, but this time I'm writing a review because the rudeness and lack of consideration were unacceptable. People would enjoy this place even more if the staff were kinder and more generous with the sauces. It's just sauce there's no need to be rude. I hope management reads this and addresses the issue. 3.5 stars overall can't lie... first off having a drive up location is dope but it can get crowded and u still have to wait in the parking lot in your car after u order....the tacos here are always gonna at least be decent that's a fact, but I was disappointed with my asada because it lacked flavor, probably just that particular batch tho, the adobada tacos aka el pastor is the best choice always here. Also the suadero taco was gas.. Someone I was with got the asada fries and can't lie the fries were no bueno. There are so many taco shop options here in Chula Vista . I always stayed a pretty consistent customer of tacos el Gordo however it's going to end. Last night asked my husband to buy me a small carne asada fry and please ask for 2 salsas not 3 not 4. He was given one asked for another NO okay can I please purchase one NO. Only one per item which is nonsense . If you want two buy a medium only option which my husband did because he knows I enjoy the food once in a while. Let me say it's a good thing I stayed home . This is my first time being at the Palm Avenue location of tacos El Gordo, and I'm still impressed. I'll order a taco de Asada taco and it was amazing. The meat was very tender and bursting with flavor. The service was fast and efficient. Food got done within five minutes. Tacos El Gordo is always the GOAT, no matter which location you go to. But, this location may be a winner because it's a lot less popular than the H street or downtown one. Tucked away, it's a smaller drive thru and frequented more by locals than some of the other more tourist trap spots. If you've never been to a Tacos El Gordo, you line up based on the meat you're choosing (not a problem if you do the drive thru). The adobada is my absolute favorite. You can ask to add pina if you'd like! I always get adobada tacos and will sometimes add on a mini adobada or carna asada fries. These tacos are saucyyy so a little trickier to eat in the car. These are some of the best tacos in San Diego and an absolute must! Once you try them, you'll remember them forever. read more

This place is clutch for those of us who live in the south but don't want to cross the border. I tend to stick to the adobada y mulas. Adobada bcause it's always cooked to perfection. Mulas because I love cheese. The more the better. They have a variety of other things on the menu like al pastor, carne asada, azteca, lengua, tripas, and more. The prices are on the wall and there are different stations in which you stand in line in order to order what you specifically want. And if you want different types, you have to stand in each line. Sometimes the lines get super long after 10pm on the weekends. During the week, the rush is usually during lunch time. But if you time it right, you could be in and out even during rush hours. It's not a place you spend a ton of time at. Most people spend 30 minutes if not less here. When I went through the drive thru last, the monitor was broken, so you had to order at the window. They'll give you a number and then you park and they'll bring it to you. Parking is scarce. Inside is bright. "Gordo" appropriately described me at my last visit to Tacos el Gordo. I ate far too many adobada tacos that the next day the word "tacos" made me feel cringe. Would I do this again? Absolutely not. Did I regret it? No, because every bite was delicious. The tacos were well seasoned and the salsa was hot. Perfection. I also ordered carne asada fries for my daughter and she loved them. It's been way too long since my last visit here and it still holds up to what I remember. It's interesting seeing the reviews for this location vs. the more popular Chula Vista location. You honestly couldn't tell the difference and unless you are mentally committed to visiting the more popular location, you should stop by this one. It's been said many times, but ordering at Tacos El Gordo can be confusing for first timers. You have to look at the separate lines and look above each to see what type of meats you can order from their specific station. This is also another reason why you should visit this location. Less crowds = less confusion for the uninitiated. I like how for each of their tacos, they already have a salsa on top depending on the meat. It's their nod of saying that you should eat it "this" way and I appreciate that. Tacos are around $4 each but honestly I think they are worth it. You can't go wrong with any of the meats, but the Adobada (Spicy Pork) is the one you absolutely need to order. Super flavorful, tender, and cut thin where it creates such a better bite. I also recommend getting Mula de Adobada which is basically a mini quesadilla with the aforementioned spicy pork inside. This can get a bit messy but it's so worth it. Love this place. Feels like I'm in TJ ordering from the counter. Great staff. Flaming hot grill with tacos made to order. So flavorful. And Oaxaca cheese for the quesadillas? So amazing. I was in line since 8:30! I had already waited almost 1hr just to place my order. Then I go inside and ask to cancel my order I guess they had it just sitting there they rudely hand the bag, I said it's late I been waiting way to long can I just cancel, the supposed manager taller lady slick red hair says "what it's cold or what?" I said I dont know but I waited way to long I just want to cancel it's past 10pm already, she threatens me telling the cashier in front of staff and customers to get my name and never serve me again. The ambiance is old taco shop, having been an old Taco Bell it still has the old look. The asada tacos were very good with a fabulous serving of guacamole. The meat was Smokey and cooked very well. The cabeza was a little fatty for my liking but the flavor was good. The asada fries had way too much sour cream and very little guacamole. It had so much sour cream it was hard to taste anything else. All and all my favorite part was the home made yellow corn tortillas for the tacos. I asked for tacos without hot sauce for my little ones and it's like I asked them for extra sauce on all the tacos for my toddlers, when I called the restaurant to let them know a very rude lady answer the phone. Disappointed, I remember the adobada tacos being well served with actual guacamole. What we got were cilantro tacos with some weird tomatillo sauce, and a little bit of adobada meat.
