This place is my new favorite place for tacos in Utah! They are delicious! I have gone a few times and can say they are the best tacos I've had in a while. If you're into tripa tacos they have the best, it's not too crunchy but not too chewy; it's pretty much cooked to perfection. I wish the location was a little bigger because they do get busy and it gets hard to find a place to sit, but the food itself is so worth it! Their agua de lemon is so refreshing as well! Tacos Lopez has long been on my bookmark list, so you best believe I was well informed of the ins and outs of this little restaurant, most importantly, that you queue up in front of the sign for the particular meat you want, and order direct from there. My husband and I dropped by around lunchtime on a Saturday. There were other diners eating, but nobody in line to order. I marched up to the first sign and waited to order. And waited. And then waited some more. Several cooks were chatting and working truly 2 feet in front of me (behind a plastic partition, COVID safety FTW), and they would not even look at me or my husband. It was so long, it got awkward. I started wondering if I had mistakenly wandered into another dimension. Was I invisible? A ghost? A customer walked in and headed straight to the cashier, and appeared to place an order, though it is pretty loud in there, so we could not be sure. We shrugged, walked to the cash register, and then waited there. The woman working was truly working, busy filling drinks, running back to the kitchen, etc. But after a couple minutes she hadn't once even glanced at us. It was so uncomfortable! Finally, I just said, "Excuse me?" And after several seconds she responded, "Yes?" and reluctantly agreed to take our order. I don't know if this was a language barrier thing and no one wanted to decipher what some very white people wanted to order, but man. It was odd. Nevertheless, we quickly made our choices (having had a good ten minutes to decide by this time), our selections were just a bit over $20, and everything was ready in about ten minutes. Food is served on Styrofoam plates, and we were not offered utensils, though I imagine they have them somewhere. They also didn't offer us radishes or roasted onions and jalapenos that I later noticed other diners enjoying, but maybe you have to ask, and at this point we were starving and grateful to eat anything. We each had a pastor taco. These are the bitty street style, double wrapped in corn tortillas. We just ordered everything on everything, so these (and most all else) came with sprinkling of chopped onions and cilantro, and a delicious saucey guacamole. Next was an asado taco, this time with a single flour tortilla. Very good, but the pastor is better. The suadero quesadilla was large and super cheesy. It was soft and a bit limp, so I much preferred the suadero vampire, which has all the flavor and components of a quesadilla, only crispity crunchy! Other reviewers have stated all their food was too spicy, but none of our food was spicy AT ALL, so they must have changed something. The house-made horchata (they also had a pink hibiscus drink and one more I can't recall) was spicier than normal (like, cinnamon, maybe cardamom, etc), but much too sweet for me. They also have some bottled sodas on offer. Overall, our food was very good to delicious, but man, I have never felt so weird for trying to patronize a business. Afterward, I noticed they are advertising online ordering, so next time I would definitely take advantage of that. The interior is small, but they do have some seating available outside. All employees were wearing masks, and while they were not enforcing any particular distance between tables, it was not so busy as to be a problem (though the tables are smushed real tight in that space, and if they were full it would be concerning). Lastly, Tacos Lopez is located in the front of the brand new Anaya's Market, and there is not any particularly notable signage, so just look for the store. read more

My friends and I were lucky enough to find this little spot and it's so good! The hours are perfect for a late night dinner and the prices are amazing! So cheap yet so good! I got 5 tacos: asada, chorizo, cabeza, saudero, pastor. All were incredibly good but I have to say the saudero was my personal favorite. When I want to feel like I am back in Mexico, I come to Tacos Lopez. The meats are cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. From Chorizo, Pastor, and Suadero, to Lengua, Cabeza, and Tripa. You truly feel like you are getting food from a taco truck on a weekend night in el país al sur, el amado México. If you want great tacos, go to Tacos Lopez. Tried this place out with some co-workers and was amazed how simple and good everything is. Line could get pretty long during lunch rush so be prepared. Be ready to do some finger pointing in this place or know your basic meats that you want for your tacos. If you are adventurous, I was delightfully happy with the lengua (cow tongue) and tripa tacos. Alright, folks, listen up. There's a lot of confusion circling around this place and it's probably time to set the record straight because it's darn good. Not that I'm the ultimate authority, but I want more people to experience the goods here, so I'm going to share my own experiences in the hopes that others will get here to try them out. TIJUANA STYLE TACOS These folks are purveyors of the Tijuana style taco. You can look it up, but it's basically a street taco sized single corn tortilla, most commonly filled with cleaver-chopped beef (more on the meats in a sec, though) and dressed with pico, cilantro, and a big ol' dollup of that thin style guacamole. It's then *typically* pinched up in the back and rolled in paper. It's juicy, a little messy, and a religious experience to get a good one. HOW TO ORDER 1) Figure out what meat you want 2) Get in the line that corresponds to that meat 3) Figure out what preparation you want There are three lines ("fila" in Spanish), and you order by meat. The first line (Fila 1) is dedicated solely to the almighty pastor. The next line (Fila 2) is asada, chorizo, and tripa, and the last line (Fila 3) is cabeza, suadero, buche, and lengua. More on meats below. Yes, it's possible to stand in line three times if you want a variety of meats. If it's not busy, you may get away with multi-meat orders in one line. Once you have everything you want on your tray, take it all to the cashier to pay. THE MEATS Here's your cheat sheet: Pastor = Spitfire roasted pork (no pineapple here) Asada = Grilled steak Chorizo = Mexican sausage Tripa = Beef tripe (intestine) Cabeza = Head meat from a cow Suadero = Beef, a sort of smoother, shreddier cut Buche = Pig stomach (NOT the same as pork belly) Lengua = Tongue of a cow My vote is the pastor. If you're unaccustomed to new cuts of meat, stick with pastor, asada, chorizo, and suadero. Cabeza and lengua are surprisingly tasty. I can go either way on tripa and buche, tripa being my least favorite. THE PREPARATIONS Tacos = As described above. Vampiro = Loosely, you can think of this as a grilled cheese taco. Two shells are made crispy, then griddled with cheese (cheese side down) and then flipped cheese side in, stacked with the toppings in between. Crispy shell, gooey cheese, savority insides, guac juiciness. Just, wow. Mulitas = Like a Vampiro, but the tortillas are not crisped up first. Quesadilla = Large soft tortilla stuffed with all the goods, griddled cheese, also gooey goodness. THE LANGUAGE BARRIER They did their best in English, and it worked. I also speak Spanish so I wasn't concerned. If you're worried, just find the right line according to the meat, say the number of things you want (or hold up fingers) and the name of the preparation. Then you can say "con todo" ("with everything") and you're off to the races. (eg. Dos, tacos, pastor, con todo). BONUS: AGUAS FRESCAS For $2 I got a big ol' agua fresca de limon. Basically, a sweet limeade. For $3 they give you a practical vat. Pick between limeage, hibiscus, or horchata. You must get one. There's limited seating, but I had a small corner at the high top bar against the wall. People of all backgrounds are there. It's attached to Anaya's Market, so you can go in and get your shopping done, too. It's a different take on tacos and one that I really dig--hopefully more people will check it out, too! read more

They do not offer things like chips, rice or beans and I'm glad cause then I have more room for AL Pastor. They have a good variety of meats. This place slaps! I loved all the tacos here. Be careful with the orange sauce (habanero). That slaughtered my stomach in the middle of the night. The meat and tortillas are a great balance of freshness. Seating is a first come first serve free for all which sucks. When we showed up it was full but a lady was nice enough to scoot down. We ended up wanting to order more and they prioritized our order before everyone else that was in line, because we were already sitting down and eating. They wanted to get us out sooner than later. It's a nice touch of detail of a well managed spot. When you get your order, they'll ask you for fried onions and jalapenos (In Spanish), so just be mindful of that when you pick up your order. read more

Man .. love me some Tacos Lopez! This might be my favorite taco joint in Salt Lake. Place is super busy but the staff is very friendly. Order in line, wait for your food and pay at the register. Guys... This is legit. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is the struggle with communication. I spoke a little Spanish which is enough for me to get by and place an order. However there were a couple of non Spanish speaking customers who were a bit frustrated trying to communicate with the staff. Hopefully they can have someone to help with the customers who don't speak Spanish in the future. I believe this place can even be more popular and cater to everybody. Two thumbs way up! read more

A new Taco Place opens in West Jordan and I know I need to check it out. This is a new building that houses both Tacos Lopez and Anaya's Market. Tacos Lopez is on the corner near the street. So when you enter there are basically three different stations that offer different meats. Station number 1 is the Al Pastor line. These guys are doing Al Pastor right! They have a large vertically rotating spit like you will find at authentic Gyro or Doner places. So they are slicing your Al Pastor meat directly off the spit when they make your tacos. I got two Al Pastor tacos and two Carne Asada tacos. I was asked if I wanted "everything" on them and not knowing what everything was I obviously said yes please! You can see from the pictures they put a large amount of Green Avocado based salsa on the tacos but there was also some red salsa and cilantro and onions. Both the Al Pastor and Carne Asada meat was seasoned really well. The meat was fresh and juicy. These are just a bit larger than street taco sized tacos but they really fill them up. Really happy to have this place! EDIT: I've been back several times and wanted to add a little more info. The Vampiros use two tortillas that have been pre-toasted then cheese is melted onto them before they add the same basic ingredients as the tacos. They are a more filling. The price difference is pretty significant ($2 for an Al Pastor Taco vs $3.75 for an Al Pastor Vampiro) but I think most of the additional cost it because of how much more prep is involved. That said, I REALLY like the Vampiros. The Mulitas are a lot like the Vampiros but the tortillas are not crispy. The Quesadillas are bigger than the Vampiros or Mulitas but are on a single larger tortilla. If you want the most food per item get the Quesadilla, but I don't think it passes the basic Taco as far as best bang for your buck. The salsa bar has two settings, Hot and Very Hot! I don't think they make a Mild Salsa. Although for me there is nothing that is too hot it's obvious that they are of the opinion, an opinion that I share, that if you want to call it salsa it needs to have hot chile peppers in it and it needs to be obvious. The orange colored one is my favorite (I think it is habanero based), but I like to combine it with the dark red one. They don't label them so I don't have any way to positively identify any of them. They have had as many as 8 salsa varieties and as few as 6. Many of them look kind of the same. There is a light green (the most mild one I've found), a green one and a darker green that has roasted bits in it. None of them are "mild" as per the grocery store salsa standards. Light red, dark red, dark red with roasted bits, orange, another dark red that is a slightly different shade. They are all pretty good in my opinion. One big note I want to add is that they list their hours as being open until 1am Sun-Thurs and open 24hrs Fri-Sat. I work nights and I'm up late. I was super excited to have them as a late night option. I was in just past 11pm on a Thursday and they were closing up. I still got served but they were definitely NOT going to be open until 1am that night. Just a heads up. read more

Open super late AND delicious? Check and check!! Tacos Lopez is an awesome taco place in West Jordan. You can it's super authentic. There's a good variety of choices on the menu. The food and drinks are all delicious. Price is a little higher than some other street taco places but really not bad at all. The quality is on par with the price.
