My favorite Mexican places are hole in the wall kind of places. Garibaldi was EXACTLY what I wanted. My friends and I stopped here on a rainy Saturday looking for good tacos and margaritas. We ended up trying the guac and queso which were amazing. Possibly the BEST lengua taco I have ever had along with $4 margs. The food here is amazing, the staff is wonderful and the company is cheerful. Prices can't be beat. If you love good people and good food look no further than this place. read more

If you want good casual Mexican food come here. It's one of those places with fresh warm chips and salsa, reasonable prices, and friendly service. we came in around 530pm on a Friday and we're the only ones there, so we sat at the bar and got friendly and quick service from the bartender. The place started to fill up by the time we left. i got the chimichangas with cheese $11, and my boyfriend got 4 tacos at $3 each. The chimichangas were delicious and smothered in cheese! We went here for dinner last night based on someone's recommendation. The outside looks like a typical hole in the wall place. You would never think to stop here just based on the outside appearance. When we got inside, the hostess was very friendly and welcoming. They had Karaoke music as well as a woman that worked there who would sing regularly. I had Steak fajitas, my son had a steak and my wife had Shrimp ala Mexicana. The meals were plentiful and very tasty. Baskets of great chips and salsa! Most of the staff and customers spoke primarily Spanish. The table of guys next to us were ordering buckets of iced down bottles of Modelo beer. I had one and it was a great compliment to the food. When we were done with dinner, the waitress came over with shots of Don Julio Blanco tequila, "On the House"! We will be back! read more

Have I ever written a 1 star review before?! Well this place most definitely deserves it. First there were two security guards with metal detector wands checking everyone before entering. Signs on the door "no firearms allowed". Reluctantly we emptied our pockets. Upon entering smaller establishment seemed clean enough. The music was blaring loud. There was live karaoke going on. That's okay we figured we'd enjoy the atmosphere along with our meal. Service was beyond terrible no cold mugs for beer they offer canned sodas and bottled water so you're charged for every refill. Chips tasted old and greasy. And salsa left much to be desired. When we ordered our server wrote nothing down and could not remember our order for anything. I could recite it now being the next day as it was just regular menu items for 4 people nothing crazy. He even revisited the table on two occasions to specify chicken or steak. I checked in on Yelp as we sat down and ordered our meal and an hour and 15 minutes later I had had enough. I asked if we could pay for our drinks and just leave. He apologized and said the manager would comp our food if we just paid for our drinks. Reluctantly agreed, paid $14 for one beer two Cokes and one water. And asked if we could have her food to go. They agreed. 20 minutes later we get our food. By now we've been here over an hour and a half I could not get out of there fast enough. When we got home I realized they didn't even put cheese on my chimichangas! You can't have chimichangas without cheese! The food was marginal at best. Would never ever ever return. read more

I have to admit, on first drive by of this restaurant, your initial thoughts you should be "wow, that place looks sketchy". But, if you can get past the bullet holes (yes, multiple) on the front windows, it's actually quite a find. The waitstaff is super friendly. And patient to the english-speaking crowd. They have fantastic lunch specials- $5.50 for a plate of tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas, or taco salad. The enchiladas were delicious- and came with sour cream, guac, rice and beans. My friend had a $4 margarita that I salivated over all lunch (I had to go to work so I settled on a diet coke). He got a classic one, but they had several different flavors including mango and strawberry. Our meal total (margarita and soda included) came to $17. I am a fan of taco bus- but I'm pretty sure the prices can't compare to these deals. I look forward to more visits to Garibaldi once I move to the area! read more

Why 3 stars? Because there's not a ton to love. --- --- --- I have lived walking distance from Garibaldi for years and have managed to never once visit until recently. I don't think a return visit will be in the cards. It's not horrible, but I think Taco Bus is definitely better, more convenient, and open 24/7. Oh... it's also less scary and less bullet-hole-y. Yes, there are bullet shaped holes in the wall. My fajitas were... ok. My queso seemed decent at first, but felt more on the cheap side as the bites went on. There were some very loud locals that enjoyed screaming, and doing so often. I don't mean to sound old, but sometimes those young kids* just get too loud these days. *Young kids denotes men twice my age, that also happen to be very loud. Kid-like, if you will. Garibaldi's is an old building but they do a nice job of keeping it all clean. The bartender/service is always very sweet and efficient. My friend and I have been in about 3 times and we really love it! The food is good, although we both get the steak burrito every time. Their sauces are also excellent and seem like they might be made in house. The pricing is right on point and the food comes out pretty fast. We used to go to Taco Bus but for the last year or so that place has tanked. I would recommend Garibaldi's to anyone looking for Mexican in the heights, its far more authentic and tasty than Taco Bus. read more

His nachos were perfection. The people behind us got an order too and said they were "Great!" My enchiladas were not bad. A bit dry, a bit bland, benefited greatly from the addition of the sauce we asked for. Service was pretty quick, everything was hot. We had to ask for water and ask for our check...but culturally this is pretty normal because that tends to be the norm in Mexico. He wants to go back to eat those nachos every week. This place is my main jam. To be honest, I almost don't even want to tell you about it. You can have your Taco Bus and I'll keep Garibaldi's all to myself. AHHAAHA. But mom taught me that sharing is caring, and you can really beat a $5.50 lunch special?! Food is authentic and very very delicious. I love their seafood dishes. The Shrimp loaded quesadilla is amazing, so is their seafood variety platter that comes with fried calamari. Ive had several things on their menu and I love all of them. They make their drinks with plenty of alcohol and will add more if its not strong enough. If you are a real mexican you will like this place. I love the mexican music they play. Those who say taco bus is better must not know the difference when they taste food for quality. Yet another treasure of Seminole Heights thats gets lost in the hustle and hurried world of Hillsborough avenue. A very reasonably priced and deliciious authentic Mexican restaurant. Though the facade of the restaurant may need a little TLC and some orange construction cones, this does not distract from the food itself. My friend and I had great chicken enchilada lunch specials with rice, beans and guacamole. They have a great lunch menu that is very reasonably priced. The $4 margarita wasn't too shabby either! This is a great place to have a quick bite for a business lunch or just for a wuick stop on your way out to run errands, as it happens, that is what I was doing. This was our first time here and we were very skeptical because of both the location and the outside. Once you go in you feel a little safer. I believe our server was the manager and had blonde hair. She sat us outside our section I believe so it was always so hard to get our attention. I had to literally wave her down or walk up to her to get anything done. I'm trying not to complain too much, but when you have to walk up to the server to ask for the check and after about 10-15min she still doesn't come take it from you, something is wrong. Sometimes i would just sit there and observe her to the new customers whom walked in and see much more attentiveness and alertness. Owell. I ended up just paying cash to leave. The other server seemed more nice. Food was really good. Tasted very authentic and the quality was great. Everyone gets chips complimentary. Fajitas came out steaming and sizzling. A little too much salt but still amazing. I would definitely go back if I could get a different server. But I don't think it will be for a while. read more

I don't quite understand why Mexican restaurants are in so little supply in Tampa, but Garibaldi is certainly one of those few that is worth missing. The quality of the food is hard to describe- I almost felt as though nothing was made fresh after we ordered it. None of the first timers in my group of 4 felt impressed by the food, we all agreed it was similar to the Mexican we attempt to make at home. I know queso dip is probably one of those "added for Americans" menu items at Mexican restaurants, but it was terrible here. There were zero spices in it, and it somewhat tasted chalky/powdered/gritty...never had anything like it. Once it cooled down, it looked close to a banana custard, *yuck*. The food just wasn't up to par and the atmosphere certainly isn't going to bring me back. read more

Haven't been here in about 5 years and I'm glad I came back. Food was authentic especially compared to what the taco bus has turned into, the waitress not only nice bit knowledgable about the menu and easy on the eyes. I will defiantly be returning more often. read more

There are a few mexican restaurants down the street from this one and I would recommend any of those over this place. I feel bad saying this as the service was good but the food was just awful. I got enchiladas which come with 3, but could barely get down one because the chicken on them was really nasty. My friend got tacos, which were just meat in a tortilla, and he said the chorizo was good but didn't like anything else. For a drink I got sweet tea which was gross and tasted like the instant powder tea. The prices were reasonable but regardless I will never come back. read more

We ate and drank there twice in one week. On Friday, we arrived at 10:45: the kitchen was open, there was a family with kids at a table and several folks at the bar. We got house margaritas for $5.50 and enjoyed a flavorful horchata. I ate enchiladas verde filled with cheese and it was yummy, but I got them filled with beans on Monday and that was much better. He got a chile relleno (stuffed with cheese) and it was delicious. On Monday, we got the Garibaldi jalapenos, which I would order again. It was a modest amount of corn chips topped with halved jalapenos with an abundance of small shrimp and cheese. The schmears were guac, sour cream and pico de gallo. If you like spicy, ask for the spicy salsa (its kinda brown and super spicy). This is some Mexican comfort food with cheap margs! read more

I was a bit skeptical at first as it was completely empty at 7pm on a Wednesday, not the most popular dinner night but still curious. The restaurant area AND bathroom were clean and our server was friendly and helpful. I ordered the steak stuffed chili relleno, it was out of this world. Have driven by this place for years, seeing minimal business parking and wondered how they survive in the shadow of the renowned Taco Bus. When we visited on a weekday evening, we were the only customers, so we got quick service and friendly conversation with the only employee outside the kitchen, while watching Telemundo. Prices are very low, and most dishes that we sampled (breaded steak, refritos, rice, salad, sauces, tortillas) were entirely competent and the unique chorizo quesadillas were exceptionally tangy. They have a full bar and reportedly are busier on weekends when the have karaoke. Very low cost margaritas, and some top shelf tequilas for aficionados and lushes who insist they are not alcoholic because they drink name brands. read more

I love chimichangas- so much so, I have been thinking of copyrighting Timmychangas (my new food truck idea). These reminded me of the ones you buy at a walmart in the freezer aisle, but for $6, you don't really have really high expectations. The salsa was good- not spicy, but it had flavor at least.
