These people giving 5 Star Reviews must be out of their mind. I've never been to such a terrible "upscale restaurant" in my life. On second thought I wouldn't even consider this much of upscale. Either way the amount of things that were awful that stood out to me on my dining experience here is ludicrous. I made a reservation online and we arrived a little early, so there was no table for us. I asked if it was possible to get a call or text when our table was ready so we could stroll the shops near by. We got a text about the time of our reservation. The restaurant was fairly busy that night. It took quite a bit of time for our server to come grab drink orders from us. We ordered water and a beer in the bottle. Some how he managed to get the order as a draft and told us we should just drink that one and he would get us a bottle after we finished the draft. The first dish we got was the Agadashi tofu. He brought no plates with the dish so we could share. I asked him for plates and he said he had to go find some and hoped he could find some. Took him about 5-10 minutes to "find" plates. That is absolutely crazy to me, that he had to go find some, it's a restaurant that serves food.... that should have plates. Any ways, the dish was awful, it was the most bland, tasteless Agadashi tofu I have ever eaten. There was no flavor to it what so ever. I even split my tofu and let it sit in the sauce for a little to absorb some flavor, and that still didn't help. Our soy sauce bottle was empty so I placed it with the open cap on the edge of our table for our server or any employee actually to notice that it was empty. Multiple people who even brought dishes to our table or walked by didn't notice. When our server finally came back to take orders I let him know and he had to go get help filling it.... I even asked once during our dinner if they had anything besides low sodium soy sauce, and he said the kitchen cooked with it and it's in a barrel back there he might be able to get me some. Never came back with any soy sauce, and I'm sure they do not cook with it with the lack of taste and flavor on their dishes. My friend ordered the $40 sushi chef special and I ordered the Bento box, but the bento box came out much after the sushi dish did, so I was waiting for quite a while without food. It seemed the items were fairly cold in my bento box anyways. I'm pretty sure our server forgot to put in our Kushiyaki orders because those came out basically at the end of our meal. In addition to they were also cold as well. The weird thing was the bacon wrapped asparagus was on a skewer, but the asparagus I guess had fallen out of the skewer and was just shoved somewhere on the dish.... I also asked for more rice and I was told the restaurant was out of rice and there was only brown rice if I would like some. Which is strange for a sushi restaurant to be out of rice. I asked for the brown rice anyways and that took quite a bit of time to bring out, but it was hot at least, so I guess it was made fresh. We ordered mochi and it was absolutely the worse mochi I have ever eaten. It was old and tasted like it had freezer burn. It was disgusting I had to spit it out because it was so terrible. I've had better mochi coming from the grocery freezer! Overall the worse $140 I've ever spent! I would never recommend it or return. I'm shocked they even have business and are rated so high. Decent sushi place, but inconsistent in terms of quality. I have been to Tadashi's about 3-4 times and have a great deal of praise for the freshness of their sushi and the quality of their service - Josh, one of the waiters there, not only remembered me but also the dishes I like! That said I have to give Tadashi's extremely low marks for the consistency of their entrees. Twice now I have ordered variations on the bento box and each time, various items have been cold, cool, or room temperature, as if they had been sitting out for an hour or two, sans heat lamp. My latest experience frames this service perfectly. I had just come in from a punishing 8-hour drive from El Paso and was looking forward to a bento box and some sushi. Again, the sushi was passable, while the bento box was simply dreadful; cold and mushy tempura veggies and warmed-over teriyaki chicken. While the manager was kind enough to discount this one entrée 50%, this was not a worthwhile plate for $10 let alone $21. Frankly, there are better options available for sushi in this area and I'm not sure that I will be back for another try. If I am, I will update this review accordingly. read more

This was my first time here and I was nothing but impressed overall! First off, loved the ambiance of the restaurant! The servers and staff were so welcoming and attentive! Secondly, the tasting menu was beyond spectacular! I am somewhat of a sushi/sashimi snob and the plate we had here was some of the best and freshest I have ever had! The sheer number of full tasting courses we had was amazing as was each and every dish! The three sakes we tasted were such a treat with unfiltered being one of my favs! The highlight for me, however, was our amazing dessert that wasn't even on the menu yet! It had mochi, red bean paste, shaved ice, fruit, and sweet cream! So great and the perfect amount of refreshing after the perfect and filling meal we had just had! I had three kinds of sashimi, with miso soup, today. The pricey $11 for two pieces of Bluefin Tuna was good but oddly accentuated with wasabi. That makes me wary since I ate the fish straight up, with no soy and wasabi. I kept hoping it wasn't to mask something else. The $6 for two pieces of the albacore was just okay. I didn't really love it, but it was not bad either. The best sashimi of the three was the $8 for two pieces Blue Saba. It tasted fresh from the ocean. I'm aware that the quality of the fish may not be consistent all the time, since fish gets flown in and they aren't caught in our backdoor. If they're able to maintain the consistency, especially for their Blue Saba, then that's something. The powdery miso soup was smooth to the taste. Good, not wowed. Other than that, I can't say much more except I'll have to sample some more of their popular items to better judge this place. On another note, it did seem too little for a meal costing $29.77, with tax and without tip. So it might be a while before I try this place again. read more

Came here with my sister-in-law and her friends and I LOVED the sushi!! I always wanted to try raw fish sushi and this was definitely the place to try it! The chefs were on point with the taste and beauty of their dishes. I can't even remember what was ordered but we did get a HUGE boat of raw sushi that included orange fish eggs! I didn't even think about it I just put them in my mouth and they were surprisingly yummy! When you bite into them they pop with juice and are refreshing. We also ordered raw scallops which I thought were better than cooked ones! Then we had what I would describe as steak on skewers that came with some amazing sauce!! And I think that's the trick! Everything came with amazing sauce or was dribbled with some concoction of goodness! Add sake in a shot glass or wooden box and you are in complete bliss! After a number of plates filled with the best food ever (including cooked sushi rolls like the American, Spider and Hot Springs) we ended the night with icecream that came in the shape of lemon and lime wedges. I came here for the first time last Sunday and I must say I had a great experience. Tadeshi has a great and inviting dining decor with outside seating. Great informative and attentive servers, and affordable prices. I had a salmon teriyaki bento box, which came with fried tempura vegetables, a fried shrimp, rice, and 4 California rolls, afew teriyaki chicken pieces, and miso soup. I also ordered the mini scallops appetizers they're really tiny like $5, and last but not least an Egyptian roll, which consists of crab, avocado, and manage. My whole dinner was delectable. Service was was just right, not over the top where you feel it's invasive. I'm lookin forward to trying the nigiri and sashimi after getting my feet wet. read more

Unfortunately Tadashi has gone way downhill. 6 years ago it was so good! Gave it another try for takeout tonight. Made my order at 7:30pm. They said it would take 30 minutes. I arrived at 8:15pm to pick up and they hadn't even started preparing my order yet. 45 minutes had gone by already...it should have been ready for pickup. So I waited inside the restaurant for 30 minutes for them to prepare my order...disappointing. The fish tastes fresh, but the menu descriptions for some items are incorrect. Missing items in my rolls. For example, the Lavapop Roll says it has Ikura (salmon eggs) on top. No Ikura at all. Instead it came with fried onions on top. It's an expensive roll without the most expensive part. They could have told me they were out so I could pick something else or could have taken off part of the cost. I went here because I was staying nearby and got lucky. This is a good sushi restaurant. I had a soft shell crab roll, a rainbow roll, some tobiko with quail egg. Miso soup was the starter. The miso soup was excellent, a precursor to the same quality in the sushi rolls. The fish tasted fresh, had great eye appeal and came in a nice sized roll. The service was very good. A little disappointed. Just moved here from Oregon were sushi was plentiful. Anyhow, my Mother-in-Law and I came in here and was excited to see sushi for the first time in 3 months. Well, we came after the lunch rush, hardly anyone in there, but we waited like 15 minutes to be seated (don't get this as there a ton of tables available) then when we finally got seated, took the server about 20 minutes to get to us. We ordered edamame we didn't get and would have really liked that. The food itself can't complain about, it was superb, but don't get the slow and inefficient service without being at full capacity. I might have understood if the place was busy/full but really no excuse. I didn't get it. I will give them another try at a different time but felt really let down by the service. It has been awhile since I had come in. I had friends in town and we were in the area. I really hope it was just an off night. It was a cluster. The staff is not happy to be working here. We sat at the sushi bar for 15 minutes before the owner asked us if anyone had helped us. Nope. Not even the sushi chefs acknowledged we were there. There were four of them. Finally, Josh showed up and basically wanted to know what we wanted like we were putting him out. Sitting at the sushi bar there is a ordering station at the end. We got to hear all the staff complain about tables. Extremely unprofessional. Then the sushi just piled up at the bar. No one was taking it to tables. Then one was but it was obvious she was just acting like a food runner as she had no idea which table anything went to. Even our sushi sat at the bar for a bit as the sushi chef didn't say hey this is yours. No clue what the deal was. I mean we did go in around 9pm on a Friday and they close at 10pm and it was obvious they were going to close at 10pm. However, there were not that many people in the place. It was really uncomfortable to be in the middle of it. The food we ordered was good but maybe a little less good than normal. Was it less good because of the food or the atmosphere? Maybe Covid is justifiably to blame and so I feel guilty saying it but the sushi is simply no longer fresh. They put out spoiled and/or clearly not fresh sushi. My child's bento box plate was cracked, the bathroom urinal had tile falling above it and so on. You get the gist. It's as if they've given up. They're not spending the money brining in regularly fresh food. People are not stupid and therefore they've stopped going in which in turn makes it even harder to keep up with repairs and keep the sushi flown in daily. So yes... sad to say, but this place will not be around much longer. I give them 6 months tops! Unless something drastic changes. I do wish them luck. read more

A suggestion; put them on hold and seat the customers that are standing in front of you. Your customer service is lacking. Then we waited a ridiculously long time for our waiter to take our order. We watched him talk nonchalantly at the bar for about 10 minutes and even after I was nearly obnoxious in trying to get his attention. My boyfriend and I saw Tadashi and were super excited to have a date night there. The host sat us at a dirty table, but he at least cleaned it. He then grabbed us waters and reported that someone will be with us shortly. However, 30 minutes passed and no servers checked on us. There were in fact servers, but they kept passing by never checking on us. Other people came in after and were getting served. I hate leaving bad reviews and really looked forward to eating here, but we were never checked on and other people seemed to be getting served quickly. I didn't expect a place out in the 'burbs to have decent sushi but Yelpers had it on point with the accurate reviews! My friend and I drove out there and I had never been in the shopping center before, so it was all new and very "large and in charge" in your face good. It is rather trendy since it's in a nice shopping center with a fair share of ritzy boutiques and I really liked the decor but I wouldn't say it's exclusive to date nights since we saw many families dining out with children. Walked in with no reservations around 6:30pm on a Sunday night, if that helps any. We checked in for the free edamame which I didn't think was life changing to any degree but hey, it was free and it was nice to have something to nibble on. We split the $80 mixed sushi boat and out came one of God's greatest creations. Except it wasn't on an actual boat--it was more of a flat board surface but I'll forgive them. I'm no longer a huge fan of the globs of cream cheese and spicy mayo conglomerate on top of my fish, so I'm really glad we did sashimi because we were able to really taste the fish. I'm not sure if I would ever go out of my way to return since I'm not close to it by any extent of imagination but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality! The service was also great--we had a really nice server and he did all he could to make sure our glasses were filled and checked in on us without being overbearing. A wee bit pretentious, somewhat under-portioned, and slightly overpriced with, at times, chaotic service. I was invited to Tadashi on Monday of Austin Restaurant Week (Round 2) with a group of four friends. Their published menu looked tantalizing: Ceviche, Chilean sea bass, cheesecake. Mouth-watering to say the least! Unexpectedly, Tadashi featured a check-in offer of edamame. This was a bit surprising given that it was Austin Restaurant Week (ARW). With four of us Yelp-enabled, we were advised to bank two of the edamame offers. One of my co-diners claimed his offer, but encountered a technical issue. It was a bit disconcerting to watch the kerfuffle that ensued to prove the entitlement. Take it on faith, guys, if you can see the Yelp app and a check-in; table of five here to drop $300 on dinner, after all. Everyone chose to order from the ARW menu, which should have made life relatively uncomplicated for the waitstaff. We ordered all courses up-front, with the only significant variation being in the selections of appetizer and dessert, since everyone ordered the Chilean sea bass as their entree. Yet, when it came time to deliver, there seemed to be mass confusion on the part of our waiter as to who ordered which appetizer. Once misdeliveries were settled and plates photographed, I began eating my ceviche salmon appetizer. Or should I say I began playing "Where's Waldo" hunting vainly for the ceviche? Unlike former President Bush, I eventually found the diminutive weapon of mass deception well-camouflaged under a mass of vegetation and virtually indistinguishable among the tangerine slices. Don't get me wrong: the presentation and flavor of the ceviche were fine: it's just that the dime-sized, diaphanous sliver of salmon was hardly worth the top menu billing it received. Entrees were delivered next with no miscues. I guess it helped that we all ordered the same dish. Again, presentation was spot-on with the three-ounce portion of seabass served atop three grilled asparagus stalks. The sea bass had perfect texture and flavor, however my portion seemed to have the largest cross-section of skin of all the portions served. That made it a challenge to get every delicious morsel of sea bass, even substituting a fork for chopsticks. The grilled asparagus was a real let-down. I expect grilled asparagus to be a bit challenging, but these were lethal projectiles. I successfully discombobulated one stalk, but finally gave up on the other two, lest dinner become a cartoonish affair. I could just see a piece becoming airborne and launching into the bodice of one of my co-diners. Last, but not least, desserts were served. Presentation was perfect. I opted for the green tea cheesecake, which was served as a glass-coned no-bake filling with a dollop of whipped cream atop. Four of us ordered this, and one ordered the pomegranate parfait, yet delivery was once again confused. We all agreed that the cheesecake was delicious; the green tea flavor was appropriately faint, and it had just the right balance of sweetness to complement our meal. Once again, I feel a need to emphasize the helter-skelter service. Part of the confusion may have stemmed from a team waiting approach (with considerable assist by co-owner Shawn McClain), but I expect better coordination and less confusion at this address. Everyone was friendly and polite, mind you. But, if our waiter was in training, please state that up front so we can adjust our expectations accordingly. In the absence of explanation, it just seems as though you don't know how to provide superlative service. One other item of note. At some point during the evening, a wine glass being bussed from another table exploded on the floor immediately adjacent to our side of the table. There was a very pregnant pause while the large, menacing glass shards lay unattended on the floor. Bus staff eventually returned to sweep up the mess, but it was almost an afterthought that someone inquired if everyone was alright. It's not as though such accidents aren't allowed to happen, but, when they do, I expect prompt and significant attention to customer safety. In summary, when I drop a Grant on dinner, I expect more than just a "look who we are" experience. Unfortunately, that's where Tadashi seemed to be last night. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever the chef has excellent food offerings and preparations. But when a restaurant offers a table d'hôte menu for a spotlight week, I do expect them to pull out all the stops, not to cut corners in an attempt to increase their cachet. Tadashi failed in my case last night on the premiere content for each plate served (except dessert) and with the modestly lackluster service provided. I will be back to explore more of their exciting menu, but next time I will choose items a la carte. And I will bring friends, so in case things go awry, there will at least be good conversation. read more

Tadashi, you had me at Seabass! What I like about ARW, is it gives you the opportunity to try places you might not have been to or even know about. When the menus came out, Tadashi was the only restaurant to offer Sea Bass as one of the entrees as well as an attractive array of options to suit sea food and sushi lovers and accommodate vegetarians. For this place, my mother would be left out, because she prefers her dinner to have mooed prior to making its way to the plate. Armed with my menu knowledge, I promptly made reservations to meet a few friends here on a Monday night. If all my Monday dinners were like this one, I would look forward to Mondays more often. They have about 20 wines to choose from keeping the focus on a few varietals to satisfy most palates from France, Italy, Spain, California, Oregon, Argentina and New Zealand: The red varietals include: Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and a couple of blends. The whites include: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and a selection of bubbles including a cava, prosecco and California brut. They also have a selection of hot and cold sake by the glass or bottle, sake with bubbles, plum wine and an assortment of Japanese bottled beers and Kirin on draft. I ordered a glass of the Matua Valley Sauvignon Blanc and was presented with a generous pour. Yelp had a check in offer for a plate of edamame. So our table started with two orders of that. For the first course, I shared the ceviche and the roasted mushrooms with shishito peppers with one of my friends. For the ceviche, we had the choice of salmon or tuna. We opted for the tuna and it arrived in an over sized bowl with spring and micro greens, tangerine segments, blue berries, thinly sliced red onions and pomegranate. It was crisp, bright and refreshing. While the greens were a nice addition, it did make it tough to find the fish, as it was buried underneath. The wild roasted mushrooms were thinly sliced large wild mushrooms, served with shishito peppers that had been grilled and sliced and grilled shallots. The shishitos paired nicely with the mushrooms and the shallots added a nice sweetness to offset the peppers. Both items were light and a perfect portion. Then for the entree. There were 5 people at our table and we all ordered the Chilean seabass. It was artfully placed over three halved grilled asparagus spears with the thinnest shoestring fried sweet potatoes on top. There were dots of a thick sweet miso glaze that tied it all together. The seabass was melt in your mouth buttery perfection. Each piece was that ultimate bite - the kind you slowly want to savor, but just can't stop eating and never want to end. They had other things on the menu, but this was bliss. I need a moment. mmmmmmmm Rounding the corner here, we had a choice of a no bake green tea cheesecake or a pomegranate parfait. Again, we shared and tried both. The portions were perfectly sized to give you just enough to satiate your sweet tooth without requesting a wheelbarrows to leave in. The green tea cheesecake was served in a conical glass dish and topped with whipped cream and a dusting of graham cracker crumbs. The green tea flavor was subtle and it was not overly sweet. The pomegranate parfait was served up to showcase its layers in a narrow cube glass dish with alternating layers of pomegranate compote and vanilla whipped cream. The top was sprinkled with dried pomegranate seeds which added a nice crunch texture to this dish. This too was not overly sweet, but a perfect balance of fruity, creamy and crunchy. Our servers were attentive and friendly and the co-owner, Shawn McClain, checked in on us throughout the meal. We learned that their focus is really on fresh ingredients, especially where the fish is concerned mentioning that most places serve frozen Chilean seabass, and they do not. They pick up their fish from the airport three times per week. He did admit that Austin Restaurant Week menu is a smaller portion size that their regular menu, which was OK with me, because I left satisfied but not uncomfortably full. (***UPDATE*** I started out at 5 stars, but then I did the math and at $24 for the Seabass and $12 for the ceviche, that is $36 (not including the dessert) in the regular menu. So the value seems to be a bit skewed if they are serving smaller portions. Perhaps he should have charged $27 instead of $37 for the ARW menu, or you should just order off the regular menu.) The regular seabass entree (which is 6-7 ounces of fish rather than the 3 ounces for ARW) is just $24. They just might be the best deal in town for Chilean seabass. I will definitely be back! Oh, and I spied their HH menu and they have a selection of drinks from $250 to $4.50 and food from $2 to $4.50. Tadashi, I will be back to order off your regular menu. My favorite dish was the Agadashi Tofu. All the other items were meh - bland, and lacked flavor. The kids fried chicken nuggets were dry and overfried!! Our waitress was inattentive, scatter-brained. Very disappointing dining experience. read more

The Hill Country Galleria officially has all that this girl needs. My new favorite clothing store (Plenty Boutique), a doggy boutique (Dogadillo), a barre studio and now an upscale Japanese restaurant. I went to a complimentary tasting at Tadashi but waited to review after returning and dining on my own dime. Chef Sun and Chef Moon are the talent behind the sushi bar. When Chef Sun is not at Tadashi you can find him at the sister restaurant Izumi. Tadashi has a wonderful wine and sake selection. The pink sparkling seemed to be a crowd fav during the tasting. When I stopped in for lunch recently I opted for their unsweetened ice tea which was super refreshing on a 90+ degree day. For lunch I tried one of their weekly specials, the salmon tartare with avocado, black tobiko, blue cheese and a miso pineapple puree. I loved all these flavors together and the puree tasted more like kiwi imo. Their plates come out beautifully dressed and the fish flavorful and tender. During the tasting my favorite dishes were their buttery seabass, madai crudo (I believe they switch out the crudos often), tuna with goat cheese and their excellent cuts of sashimi and nigiri. They do get some of their sushi offerings from Tsukiji Market. Tadashi would make a great place for a business lunch, a fancy dinner night out or a casual happy hour on the patio. Happy hour is Monday-Friday from 3pm-6pm and includes a selection of discounted beer, wine, sake, choice nigiri/sashimi, rolls and appetizers. read more
