    Niku Don Combo
    Jetrina M.

I went here with a group of 9 to celebrate a friend being in town. We were able to make a reservation for our large group a few days ahead (would recommend for large groups as it's not a huge restaurant). Our waitress was wonderful and patient with us while we looked over the menu. Most of us ordered a variety of combination plates and I ordered the Niku don combination, which came with thinly sliced beef on rice, noodles (soba or udon - I chose hot soba since it was cold that night) and salad. I think all the combination plates came with salad and some came with miso soup instead of noodles. The portion was huge (see photo) and I had enough food to take home for another meal the next day. We were all quite full with our choices and would definitely come again for a filling meal! Restaurant is located on the 3rd floor of the complex. Garage parking is available underneath. Unfortunately no validation and we paid $6 (not bad since the parking in the area can be quite difficult).

Taiko is a fun, charming spot tucked away on the third floor of the Brentwood shopping center. We went early -- which I highly recommend -- because by 6 PM this place fills up fast, and for good reason. We started with the appetizer sampler, which was the perfect way to get a little taste of everything Taiko does well. The albacore sashimi with crispy onion was a standout and instantly brought me back to the style I grew up eating -- incredibly fresh, not fishy at all, and simply delicious. The udon was exactly what I needed on a cold day: warm, comforting, and deeply flavorful. If it hadn't been chilly out, I would have tried the cold dipping noodles, but this bowl absolutely hit the spot. The tempura shrimp and vegetables were also excellent -- crisp, lightly battered, and not heavy or greasy. Service was quick, attentive, and extremely friendly, adding to the overall relaxed vibe. I'd recommend Taiko to any soup lover, noodle fan, or even the occasional sushi eater. It's a cozy, reliable spot with great food and warm service -- a definite Brentwood gem.

A Japanese restaurant hidden on the third floor of a business complex with underground parking. Authentic Japanese foods, but not Japanese portions. I highly recommend the weekend special deal. For $22, you get a healthy portion of Soba Noodles, a large bowl of Salad, and an entree such as a Chirashi Sushi Don. The portions are very generous overall for the price. The sushi pieces are very thin slices, but for $22 and overall portions, it's still a great deal. Service is very good and attentive. The restaurant has three private booth and simple decor. Overall, it's a keeper for price, quality, and portion.

A little torn between 3 & 4, but made it to the 4 because of the pumpkin & asparagus tempura roll. I cannot get over how excellent that was. Soft pumpkin but crispy tempura, balanced with the asparagus. Really an incredible bite and one of my favorite rolls around. The chicken roll was good, but didn't come close to the tempura one. The reason why I was contemplating the 3 was bc the chicken karaage was inedible. Fatty chicken, soggy breading, inedible. But, oh, that tempura pumpkin n asparagus roll!

Ok this place was really good! I got the tempura udon and the broth alone was rich and flavorful! The service was quick and the staff were very accommodating! There's indoor and outdoor seating and it wasn't really packed too. I definitely recommend this place if you're in the area! Would come back!

Best sushi in LA!! Their udon is incredible, their house salad dressing is to die for , and their ikura is unmatched. The staff is friendly and efficient I couldn't recommend it more.

Is this the same Taiko that used to be in Manhattan Beach by the old Arclight theater?

This is the original location. They opened the Manhattan Beach/El Segundo location briefly but it closed a short time later.

I got there with my mother and was greeted by a very lovely gentleman named Clark. He told us we could sit wherever so we seated ourselves in the outside area. He came over right away with the menus and asked if we had been there before to which we responded had not. He went over the menu with us and answered any questions we had regarding the menu. He was very sociable and friendly. We chatted with him and put in an order for the Kiwi Chowder. I ordered a Modelo and my mother ordered a glass of orange blend wine. He came over with the drinks a while later and the Kiwi chowder and have us plenty of time to sit and enjoy the dish before we ordered our main courses. The kiwi chowder was delicious and came with little crackers. The clams and mussels were so tasty and the Ora King Salmon was a nice treat. After a while he came back and served me the Fisherman's Mixed Basket and my mother got the Fish tacos with fish of the day for them being Sword Fish. The fisherman's basket was amazing and paired perfectly with my beer. I had never had clams, mussels, snapper, and oysters all together and they were so good I wish I could have them more frequently. The place was very cute and sat quietly with good music playing. Not current music but music that really fit the place and set the vibe. I will be coming back here and if you ever go, there is no bad choice for the fish, the service is stupendous and I haven't gotten anything like it in forever, and if you meet Clark enjoy a friendly conversation with him.

Unfortunately, the food isn't anything special. Decent portion sizes, but that doesn't matter much when nothing is very tasty. Parking: They have an adjacent paid parking lot though metered street parking is cheaper since they unfortunately don't validate. Ambiance: Really gorgeous inside, with high arced wooden beam ceilings, natural light through skylights, romantic dim lighting, candles, lots of potted trees for greenery, and velvet seating to add elegance. Even the plates are worth admiring. They have a nice patio with heat lamps for cooler evenings as well. I absolutely love the vibes for date night. I have eaten here four times now and have a reservation ready for my fifth. The menu changes EVERY WEEK and the fact that the ingredients are so seasonal, and the chef really seems to takes pride and passion in creating different dishes so often, keeps me coming back each time. They have done specials from Sunday Night $35 7-course omakase to 50% off Neighborhood Patio nights to $65 for two 4-course date nights and the quality is so worth it. I even came by for an art class hosted on the patio since they hold multiple community events, including sports watch parties. The best yellowtail I've had (including eating in Japan and various sushi spots in LA, OC, SF, and NY) was surprisingly here, at a place I was honestly hesitant to even order sushi from. It's the first time I actually really could taste the flavor as it's more subtle than tuna, salmon, or albacore but they somehow made it incredibly memorable from the freshness. Definitely order the hamachi with pomegranate. I loved the flavor with the ponzu and that it wasn't just the basic jalapeño combo. There was a Singaporean crab garlic butter noodle dish they made once that was incredible though sadly seemed to be on the menu that time only. This was my absolute favorite entree they've offered so far. The gem lettuces Caesar salad is amazing although unfortunately, both times I've ordered it without cheese, they forgot. The boquerones (anchovies) are a gem (ha) that really adds to the salad and I love the texture from the herb crust. Their signature shrimp toast has a good crunch from the sesame seeds and distinct pieces of shrimp rather than mush inside and the ikura on top adds another good layer of flavor. The vegetable curry was rich, flavorful, and savory witbout being too heavy with perfectly cooked potatoes that didn't just hide in the sauce in a way that actually didn't make me miss the meat. The short rib curry had such tender meat and the roti made in house was actually a major highlight for me as it was so flaky, hot, crispy and had an amazing garlic flavor. The chocolate pot de creme had a good orange zest flavor to add to the chocolate and wasn't too rich or heavy though the texture was thicker. The calamari had super crispy batter so didn't associate it as much with a lighter tempura one but the lemons in it and the roasted garlic marinara sauce it came with were so good and added a lot of depth. The butter curry prawns has SUCH well cooked shrimp - flavor was amazing. Miso salmon was good though crispy skin side up would have been better personally. I liked the olive oil flavor in the vinaigrette and the lemon with veggies on the side as well. The tres leches was surprisingly light for a cake and very moist so I enjoyed a lot and the caramel ice cream wasn't overly sweet. The lychee vodka drink is my favorite (came with a drink pairing they offered with Sunday omakase) and the imperial gold yuzu cocktail is better for those who like a stronger drink. The grilled asparagus was cooked to a tenderness with great flavor from the crispy onions on top that have somehow made it among my top favorite dishes here, despite it just being a small side vegetable dish but I didn't like asparagus until this! I would definitely recommend coming here for dinner over brunch personally, as those have been my most memorable bites. Definitely order the yellowtail sashimi, shrimp toast, gem lettuces Caesar salad! Hoping the garlic butter crab noodles, grilled asparagus with crispy onions, and housemade roti reappear on the dinner menu!
