First time I came here I had the Lunch Bento it was pretty damn good! This time I got the Smoked Bento the smoked meat was really tasty, although the kimchi wasn't up to Korean Standards it was decent the Taegu however was good as well as the beef tips very tasty there's hardly anyplace that can get everything great but Taka's comes real close the only thing that could be improved on is the kimchi which is such a minor thing. Parking can be a challenge especially during Lunch time as parking is limited. They are pleasant and the food comes out reasonably fast. read more

Parking can be an obstacle hea with bout 3 stalls and wherever you manage to find street parking. Recommend doing the buddy system hea if can. One drives and the other picks up. You should also call in your order ahead, if you know what you want. Otherwise, this is mainly a take-out joint, but they do have a few outdoor seats with da other resident insects are around too. Still, you won't be disappointed with your take from Taka's. From Taka's the seafood bento is my go to, but love their spaghetti mac salad! Their specials keep me from the bento as like their Chicken with Mushroom Gravy! Dat was killah, but last time I came hea, we had the Shoyu Chicken and that was a wee-nah! Ugh, I'm hangry just thinkin' bout dat plate. I haven't tried their Hamburger Steak yet, and will soon, but each time I go, they have something else I wanna shovel in my belly. Anyhow, I do advise to drive over to Moanalua Gardens, or to Keehi Lagoon Park to finish your grindz if you are not going back to the shop, office or home. Saw this place on someone's IG post and it looked so good, so we zoomed down to Mapunapuna (they close at 1:30 & it was already noon) and expected it to be crowded but it wasn't bad at all! There was no parking when we passed by but luckily one of the 3 spaces opened up when we turned around to look for street parking. Only 2 other ppl were in line when we got there so we chose our orders from the signs on the wall: $11. 50 for bentos and $13.50 for my plate and it included a soda! I got the loco moco because I wanted the brown gravy & to try the spaghetti "mac" salad. I also got all 3 bento choices for my parents and my hubs. Mine was SOOO GOOD but so much food I could only eat half! Yay leftovers! The spaghetti salad was great with the bites of HUGE burger and gravy and rice. Hands down the best loco moco I have ever had. This spot is super close to the airport, so we wanted to have a classic loco moco for breakfast before catching our flight. We called our order in through the phone and it was ready to be consumed by the time we arrived. It's exclusively a to-go spot, but they have a small seating area where you can eat. I was concerned about parking but we got super lucky! It was very easy to pick-up our order, and we immediately noticed how HEAVY the food was. There were generous portions of rice, gravy, patties, and perfectly done over-easy eggs. I had eaten so much during my trip in HI and wasn't sure if a heavy breakfast would hit right, but it did. What a joy to support local. My friend suggested this hole in the wall place in Mapunapuna for plate lunch, and it did not disappoint. We both ordered the loco moco, and he also got a beef stew plate. Drinks of choice come with your plate. For the loco moco: rare are the places that give you TWO patties and TWO eggs, as well as mac salad. The patties were homemade and delicious, and the gravy was very tasty. The mac salad was da kine made with spaghetti noodle, and it was the perfect compliment to the rest of the plate, with none of that onion or celery inside to ruin the flavor. I do wish there was a little more gravy, I'll be sure to ask for that next time. There definitely will be a next time. The beef stew was winnah also. Wow, the beef was cooked so well that it just disintegrated in my mouth, so tender and tasty. There is a small outdoor covered seating area that blocks the wind too. Parking isn't the best, but we managed to secure a couple of spots right in front. There is also street parking, but don't let that discourage you. My work office had ordered food for our Halloween lunch. My 2 coworkers had drove there to pick up the food. We had different food like hamburger steak, seafood bento, and smoked bento. It is cool that it comes with a canned drink. My coworker and I had smoked meat bento which had most of the same meat but a slight different. It included beef tips, little links, fishcake, siumai, taegu. Beef was super super soft which melts in your mouth. Bento is affordable at $10.00. I definitely will try here again. read more

I thought the menu spread and prices were pretty good, but wasn't particularly wowed by this Loco moco today- I felt like it was pretty bland, but the portions were good and the eggs were just right! Great when you need breakfast from 5am -7am before the traffic rush. When going to the airport. I found them via Yelp when I wanted to get breakfast before my 7:30am flight. It was perfect. Amazing hole in the wall restaurant for some authentic plate lunches! The menu is very limited compared to an LnL type of chain, but the food here is 10/10! They do have daily specials that you can order and their prices are VERY reasonable and serving portions are HUGE! Did i mention that the food is broke da mouth good! All the plates come with a canned soda too so you definitely get your moneys worth at Taka's. They have a small window that you can order your food and the friendly staff always show appreciation for their customers. They have a small sit down area in the front of their restaurant and its covered so you can relax in the shade while eating your awesome lunch plate. I never would have guessed there was a restaurant where Taka's Box Lunch is located. It's situated in the Manpunapuna area with limited parking but I was told you can double park there as they are very busy during lunch. It's a hole-in-the-wall type restaurant with some outdoor picnic table seating but don't judge a book by its cover. The only reason I know of this spot is because Lily D mentioned they have a Roast Beef on Hoagie w/Au Jus and Fries as a July lunch special. I called in my order requesting them to make the fries extra crispy and they told me 10:45am pick up. Apparently the meal came with a drink so I opted for bottled water. Luckily I came early and was able to secure one of their parking stalls. I was on a work call so I waited till 10:45am to go to the order window to pick up my order. They were still working on it so I paid and waited till they called my name. I was out of there by 11am so it wasn't a long wait. Customer service was friendly and they even brought my meal out from the side metal door. It was worth the wait as the sandwich was legit! The au jus complimented the sandwich well and the fries were extra crispy as requested. With the bottled water, the meal was exceptional value. You definitely get good food at a very reasonable price. I do recommend making a phone order because this place is busy during lunch :) read more

Hubs will not pass up hamburger steak so this time instead of saying just get something for me he knew his answer. I read Yelp Elite Rod and Fran's reviews before deciding on the seafood bento. I enjoyed the Taegu - soft, savory, its sauce on the rice was excellent. What's a bento without furikake on the rice and big slice of takuan? The two thin shrimp tempura were soft & good. Even though I shy away from fish, (an idiosyncrasy of mine from scaling salmon in Alaska), this fried piece of white flesh fish was good dipped in the tartar sauce. I ate everything and only left some of the rice behind after lifting the furikake off. The one piece of chicken drummette was kinda a bit salty to me. Interesting to find 2 very mini shu mai and half a slice of fish cake. Down the hatch, they were gone faster than I could say John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt. My bento didn't come with any Mac salad but hub's hamburger steak had it. More reason to try the other bento or plate another time. read more

Food places in the Mapunapuna areas are always sooo good. I was getting hungry one day as I was in the area waiting. I found this little mom-and-pop shop just five mins away and decided to check it out, and I'm glad I did! It's located on Mapunapuna St with no real distinctive landmarks to point out as the neighborhood is an industrial area. There's a small parking lot up front and lots of street parking. No dining area though! Only take out. I got the seafood bento which also came with a free drink. The food was made to order so my bento came out hot! It came with a TON of seafood options. Shrimp tempura, fried fish, deep fried shumai, fish cake and weirdly, chicken wings LOL. There was a small selection of vegetables including kimchee and taegu. Wow! The food was delicious! Everything was super crispy which I liked. Also, everything is fried so it's on the "unhealthier" side, but they have other meal options like loco moco and breakfast foods. The prices were also sooooo good for the amount of food I got. I don't see $10 bentos anymore since everything keeps getting inflated. What a steal! Great place to stop by for brunch if you're around the area. It's practically located in the middle of nowhere but the food is filling and delicious. P.S. I love good bentos and I find it hard to find good ones. Most bentos are ready made and you don't know how long they've been sitting on a shelf. I pass by Taka's occasionally to see if there is convenient parking available, and today I got lucky. There are just a few parking stalls in front so parking is challenging because the street parking is always full. One of our go-to's when we're out here on Oahu. It's close to us, food comes out quickly, and is super good. We got the Thursday special, Garlic Chicken with mac salad and white rice x 2 cause we didn't want to share. It's mainly takeout, but they have a table you can sit at and eat if you want to. You order at the window, and it takes about 10-20 mins to get your order depending on how busy it is. We got ours in about 10 mins. Portion size is good, comes with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac salad. They have the spaghetti style mac salad (which i love) and the garlic chicken is crispy even after driving home with it. They're only open for breakfast and lunch so make sure you go before they close! read more

I also noticed they had a few reserved stalls available too. But all were taken. So I walk inside (but it's really outside) and waited in line. There was about 3 -4 people ahead of me and 5 or so behind me as I was waiting. It's definitely a busy place! I got up to the counter to let them know I had a phone order and also wanted to redeem my Instagram prize for a free bento. I chose the seafood bento which had fried chicken wings, shrimp tempura, fried fish, and fish cake! You could also choose a drink of your choice. And it's given to you after you pay near their door. The bento is definitely fresh and it held up pretty well going home. It was still very fresh and crunchy and I must say their tarter sauce is so good for the fish. I got it with the spaghetti mac (on the side) which was perfectly seasoned, with the spaghetti cooked perfectly!
