The restaurant looks really nice from the inside. It has lots of Buddhist statues and decor. The staff are very genuine, playful, sympathetic, and hardworking people. Unlike most restaurants where you see a lot of younger folks, this restaurant, you see more older folks, and you can tell it's a family-owned business, right off of the bat. They offer this delicious complimentary tofu peanut salad. It was really good! My friends ordered the pad Thai with duck and their half-roasted duck, and I had the pad ga prow. My friend ordered a 4 spicy level while I ordered mine a 0. My plate came out with a lot of chili flakes. I informed the server, and the manager came and apologized. She made she they made it right. They remade the dish, and manager kept checking on us. They're very nice people to start with. Fountain drinks comes with refills at a cost of 2.50, which is pretty cheap. We've been to places where they charge us by the can and for a bit more. We are also pleased with how big the portions are. Staff is constantly on top of things, checking in on us and filling our drinks. Also, 15% off, if you check in on Yelp. We enjoyed our meal, and we were telling the manager how we used to go to the Sabi Thai lee in Linda Vista, but it changed, and we didn't like too much. They make their duck pretty good here, so we'll come back to try their extensive menu while supporting mom & pop businesses. We were told they have been running this business for 25 years. The portions are very big and a great deal for the price (at least for the lunch specials), so if you're looking for more bang for your buck then Takhrai Thai is for you. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with medium spice and was a bit disappointed that they were hardly spicy. I'm not sure if they forgot to make them spicy or if their spice gauge is different. Either way, the noodles were alright. The portion was huge and definitely could be shared between 2 people, so that was a plus. Each entree comes with the choice of soup or salad. Thai food is such a diverse cuisine and it takes a special kind of restaurant to truly nail its immense flavors. Unfortunately, Takhrai Thai was hit and miss for us in our first visit. Because it was the closest Thai restaurant to us, we ordered the Pad Thai, the Drunken Noodles, and the Spicy Fried Rice to mixed results. The sauce in the Pad Thai was essentially "funky" and it left a weird taste in our mouths (hard to describe, but hopefully that sums it up). I will say the drunken noodles were very good and cooked perfectly, but the spicy fried rice either had too much oil or too much sauce; either way, the rice felt very wet for my liking. In terms of atmosphere, it was very dim but the customer service was very polite and welcoming. Overall, not a stellar Thai eating experience, but a satisfactory one nonetheless. read more

The service is somewhat just straight forward. If you need something sometimes you will have to ask versus them refilling your water or giving you the bill. So disappointed! I've been here before and it was really good. This time very disappointing. My friend and I ate lunch here. We wanted just to share something. We started with the crispy spring rolls. They were delicious, served hot and crispy. Next we split the spicy eggplant. According to the menu, it is Chinese eggplant with onion, carrots, bell pepper and fresh basil. The waitress asked how spicy we wanted it. My experience in Thai restaurants when the scale is 1-10 is to err on the side of caution. We decided on a level 3 and ordered it with tofu. We did not order off of a special lunch menu. The entree was served with rice on the same plate instead of in a separate bowl. The serving of the eggplant dish was on the skimpy side. In addition, there was very little eggplant, only about 4 pieces of tofu and broccoli was added. No basil at all. It was not in the slightest bit spicy. VERY disappointing. When we told the waitress that it had no spice at all, I'm not even sure if she understood what I was saying. She did not offer the extra condiments so that we could add our own spice. I'm going to give Takhrai Thai the benefit of the doubt and assume that they were simply unprepared for the sudden rush of procrastinating people who came on Monday night to use their Living Social vouchers (like us) before they expired today. We arrived to the bustling restaurant at about 7:30. Nearly every table was occupied and several waiters hurriedly buzzed past us to tend to their tables. After several minutes, we were finally greeted and led to possibly the only vacant table in the restaurant. Our waiter brought us water and told us that he would be back shortly to take our order. After browsing the menu and considering several dishes that sounded tasty, we decided to stick with our tried-and-true Thai order of pad see ew and pad thai. We also ordered the hot pot of chicken tom kha soup. While we waited at least half an hour for our soup to arrive, our waiter stopped by our table several times to assure us that it was on its way. We could tell that he was very busy and the kitchen was obviously backed up, which was in no way his fault. Once our soup arrived, we were very pleased. It was super flavorful and amazingly deliciously, filled with chicken, mushrooms and tomatoes. The broth is incredible! Another 15 minutes go by and our entrees finally arrive. Although I thought my pad see ew was a little too sweet, this issue was easily remedied with a bit of added soy sauce. I always have had more of a salty tooth than a sweet tooth. :) My boyfriend enjoyed his pad thai and actually decided to order it because the waiter said it was rather sweet. To each his own, right?
