Not appropriate for the noodle. They should have either gone for a white wine sauce with EVOO and garlic or a simple cashew cream sauce. The tomato salad was divine! Subpar wine selection. But what they DO have, is all excellent. Just wish there were more options. Also, expect to pay $20/glass on a bottle that is about $15 retail. Ouch! Note to chef: Lay off the breadcrumbs dude. Second time here. They changed the menu since summer, didn't see the ham on the menu! Over the summer they have a $100 dinner for two which is a great deal. Everything well prepared and ingredients very fresh, as well as outstanding service (well, their credit card processor didn't work and they had to bring three out but kept apologizing). Very nice to sit outside and get fresh air, even after sunset. Those heat lamps work on full power! Enjoyed dinner here and will come back again. Especially for the octopus appetizer. read more

The sunset was stunning as we ate dinner. It was breathtaking and so was our booth. My boyfriend had a steak and he said it was delicious and was cooked to a medium rare perfection. There was a little order mishap but was quickly and professionally resolved. Dessert we had fruit tart. I had the pleasure of being able to have 2 private dinners here this week. Both times we were lucky enough to have wonderful, above and beyond service from Stephen and Kate. The first night we did a tasting menu with wine pairings, which Kate knocked out of the park. The second night we had a seafood dinner and enjoyed a specially crafted seafood tower and the chefs signature paella. All of the food was so delicious and also plated beautifully. Stephen was super attentive and accommodating to not only us, but our toddler who was all over the lobby. And somehow Kate was able to suggest some really beautiful bottles of wine that we had never had before, but we truly enjoyed them. Second course was a pea tendril salad with fig, plums, prosciutto, Gorgonzola and lemon soubiy. Charred Spanish octopus with chorizo, shishito peppers, onion and potato, wow!! Oh Ma Gawd! Samantha needs to get her sweet little ass to Talavera. Then she would have her best meal so far. This certainly ranks as one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. From the lobby of the masculine Four Seasons (like Ralph Lauren masculine, not Martina Navratilova masculine) to the bar to our own private dining room, everything was simply outstanding. Chef Frank Robertson had prepared a special seven course meal for our party, we just had to select our own entree and the decision was agonizing. I went with lobster served with corn, baby squash and cabbage. Perfection! Preceding my entree we had three amuse bouche; Blue Fin Tuna Poke, Sesame, Avocado ; Heirloom Tomato and Burrata, Basil, Orange Olive Oil, Balsamic and I'll be darned if I don't remember the third. Did I mention we had predinner cocktails? Belvedere and freshly squeezed grapefruit juice for me and a round of Absolut LA drinks for most of the others. And the wine. It was pouring like Morton salt. My favorite was a Carneros Pinot Noir. Like drinking liquid velvet! Other foodies raved about the filet, the scallops and the sea bass. Prices for entrees ran from high 20s to mid 40s. Worth every penny. Dessert for us were several plates of sweets...small pieces of various delights from truffles to cakes and pecan bites. I felt like Lucy on the chocolate factory line. Dare I say I stashed a few in my cleavage for the ride home? Misc: Service was five stars all the way. Thanks to all who made our party special. I fell in love last night! Thank goodness to Restaurant Week, otherwise I might not have tried this place. It is quite a hike from where I live, but then again, what isn't? The drive up to the resort to get to the restaurant is beautiful, so you sitting outside on the patio is a no brainer. We were greeted kindly by the hostess and seated immediately. I started with the mango mint julep. The bread was so soft and moist. Next, I had the tuna carpaccio with pork belly croutons. That is basically having the best of both worlds. Next I had the Bison Short Ribs with Mushroom demi glaze and crab mashed potatoes. I have this rule about overeating, but I had no choice to ignore it. The only thing I wish was different was that I would have liked more of the mushroom demi glaze. I boxed my dessert since I was already sooo full, but did of course have some of my husbands. Well Talavera has that fantasy dish and can clearly get me through a bowl of oatmeal, let me explain.... If I took your finger and had you blindly point it to anything on Talvera's menu you would succeed in choosing an excellent meal. Every course of food was excellent here. I personally had a salad here that I will never forget. Yes fresh figs and candied pecans on greens made a nice mix. The delicious short rib main course with crab meat mash potatoes. Finally the creme brulee with open flame to caramelize the top. What a play on visual and taste appeal. As for the location, nicely appointed on the mountains so that the outdoor seating is a must here. Nice views of Phoenix and the mountains and this must be put on your list to take a special someone here. I'd been wanting to go to Talavera ever since I fell in love with a scallop they served at West of Western (pre-Devoured) and, finally, seized the opportunity with Restaurant Week. Most definitely it's a 5 star setting: the view, the decor, the live music on the patio. I would give the food a solid 3.5 stars. Based on the restaurant week menu, I enjoyed a scallop (that's what I came for, after all!) which was as good as I remembered, complimented by rich, meaty bits of short rib and diced potato. My main course was the pork tenderloin: a more than generous portion of pork cooked medium. The description said it would be served with acorn squash, fall greens and queen creek fig balsamic. The balsamic was merely a plate garnish and did nothing for the flavor profile (which I found disappointing, as I was really looking forward to it) and the squash sure tasted more like potato than squash. I finished with the Madagascar vanilla flambrulee. The shallow dish was delivered and the sugar crystals brought to flame right at my place. Very dramatic. The other desserts were only even more amazing! A cheesecake served between two pieces of brioche to look like a slider paired with "fries" made of funnelcake and a raspberry coulis "ketchup," stealing the show. Hands down, this place hits desserts out of the park! The idea of coming here for dessert in a romantic setting is easy to conceptualize! I would give 5 stars for dessert alone. Unfortunately, service, while cheerful and courteous, was slow. Particularly in the beginning when it took at least 15 minutes for menus and water to be brought to the table -- and that was after a request that someone be notified (aka reminded) that we had been seated. The restaurant week menu looked like an eye exam - confusing and very difficult to read. The drink prices were probably the biggest deterrent. $16 glasses of wine or margaritas just made me think of other places I could enjoy a meal as good, if not better, and either bring my own or pay less. Not to mention, phenomenal crafted cocktails prepared by "celebrity" mixologists found closer to home! (Don't even get me started on the $6 iced tea!) We wound up with a $68 bottle with little or no encouragement from our server, despite the fact that they were supposedly offering a summer 'Wine Down' program with 35 wines that are discounted at 35% off. I didn't notice any mention of that at the time. If I ever give up drinking, maybe I'll come back. Otherwise, my Talavera experience may have been a one night stand... read more

For what they charge, it isn't worth it at all. The paella was so over salted and the seafood in it was over cooked. The NY strip was a piece of choice grade meat they got from Frys that they tried to douse with chimichurri to cover the poor quality. We ordered a dozen oysters and they brought them cooked and didn't even try to replace them. The bruschetta was great. The serving staff tried hard but the manager is completely incompetent and needs to quite as he just doesn't care anymore. Good view though. First the positive: we came here several weeks ago and despite (literally!) being the ONLY patrons in the restaurant we enjoyed our meal. I was delighted to see vegetarian paella options and indeed, they were tasty. Of course it is overpriced, being in the Four Seasons and all, but I thought it would be a lovely place for my birthday dinner. Fast forward to last night, the birthday dinner. We all enjoyed the appetizers (cashew dip is yummy if a bit too sweet), salads, and vegetarian paellas. However, they brought out a dessert for my birthday we did not ask for and proceeded to charge us for it, which I did not notice until the next day. This place was a complete disaster for their Valentine's evening tasting menu. Nothing seemed to go well. Clearly, they were massively understaffed. The entire experience made me rate our stay at Four Seasons lower (and subsequently not want to return). We arrived on time and were seated at a table that was wobbly (thankfully, this was quickly corrected). The dinner on Valentine's day was a tasting menu (and we opted for the optional sparkling wine pairing). What followed was a plodding 3.5 hour experience where we were routinely forgotten about and served disgusting-appearing (and frequently poorly-tasting) food. It was clear when we first arrived that they were MASSIVELY understaffed. Our waiter was kind but in a rush the entire time, running from table to table (he actually dumped sparkling wine on a patron's dress during the time we were there as he was moving so quickly). We waited a good 20 minutes before the first course arrived. Meh, average oysters with a shooter. Again, we waited another 20 minutes before the next course (they would bring the sparkling wine at least 10-15 minutes, if not more, before the actual course). The next course was a complete disaster of appearance (if you're brave enough, see the photos below). Are those horns coming out of store-bought, canned tuna (because that is what it tasted like)? At this point, they COMPLETELY forgot a course, trying to bring out the next two wine pairings. When we pointed this out, they quickly took away the extra wine (despite waiting 40 minutes for the next course). This course, the ravioli, was the only course that tasted decent with a complex flavor that I would expect from a restaurant such as this. I will give them credit for this course alone. The main course was a tenderloin that was massively overcooked (with silverware with food stuck to it!!! see below). The rest of the meal was completely bland and not memorable. It was the wife's birthday and someone suggested we go to Talavera. What a great idea! The martinis come with bleu cheese stuffed olives. Wifey doesn't drink much so I had some of the house- recommended cabernet. Ass puckering dry and great. We don't eat a lot, so we split the 20 oz ribeye - which was perfect. We also got some fois gras just to piss off the PETA assholes. The whole experience was great and I give an unconditional recommendation to anyone. Speaking of my wife's birthday- this is kind of creepy and I never thought of it 40 years ago - tonight, I am going to hop in bed with a 68 year old woman! Our server - Penny - was invisible until we needed her. The spectacular view adds a great touch. In November, Talavera at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale featured an exquisite menu created by the Long Meadow Ranch. If you are not familiar with the Long Meadow Ranch it is a 650-acre historic ranch nestled high atop the Mayacamas Mountains above the Napa Valley. There they produce award-winning wines and handcrafted extra-virgin olive oils - as well as grass-fed beef, eggs, and heirloom fruits and vegetables. Talavera is a gorgeous mountain-top restaurant and we were delighted to be seated on the patio. Even before we were able to be wowed by the food, my dining companion and I were blown away by the dramatic view of Pinnacle Peak. The patio was elegant and warm and was the perfect backdrop to our unforgettable meal. Andre, our server, was the consummate professional. He was friendly, informative and very available. He explained each of our dishes and the coordinating wines. He had a Caribbean charm and friendly nature that added not only to our meal, but to the whole experience. We started our meal with an amazing bread that had been topped off with a wonderful Olive Oil created by the Long Meadow Ranch. The olive oil added a slight salt flavor that was understated but amazing. We tried as hard as we could to eat only one piece, so as not to spoil our dinner, but could not resist at least one more piece! Our 1st course was a Goat Cheese tart with Caramelized Fennel topped with an arugula & radicchio salad dotted with a red wine gastrique. I found the goat cheese to be delectable and the sweetness of the fennel matched with the tartness of the gastrique was phenomenal and amazing way to start the evening. The 2008 Sauvignon Blanc that paired with this course was lush and a nice match to the goat cheese. Our 2nd course was a Pomegranate Glazed Duck Breast over a Winter Squash Blini and paired with a 2005 Sangiovese. The duck was so tender and rich that I would have been pleased had all the rest of the plates just re-featured this dish. My companion had never tried duck before and she was in love after the first bite. The blini added a nice change of texture and the full body and tinge of sweetness provided by the Sangiovese rounded out the dish quite nicely. Our Entrée was an All Natural NY Strip medallion served with a Celery Root Gratin and Turnips & Nantes Carrots paired with a 2005 Ranch House Red. The strip was topped with a lovely mushroom sauce and was cooked perfectly, slightly smoky and just the right temperature. The celery root gratin was ridiculous. It was akin to an Alfredo dish - creamy and delicate...absolutely amazing! The turnips and carrots were nice too - but we next to the gratin there isn't much to say. The dark and spicy notes of the Ranch House Red played right into the depth and flavors of the meat. Dessert was a Molten Chocolate Cake served with a Cranberry Compote and Maple pecan Ice Cream paired with a 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon. Now molten chocolate cake is good, but this was positively sinful. The tart of the cranberry matched with the richness and depth of the chocolate almost made me weep...and I don't really care that much for chocolate. The texture and cold of the maple pecan ice cream alongside the heat of the melted chocolate was simply brilliant. By this point in the meal we were wishing for larger pants and someone to carry us to our car. I have had some really great meals in my life - but this was one that I could savor and feel good about all at the same time. I knew where each component of my meal came from and was provided with great service and attention all throughout our meal. The view is absolutely breath taking! Watching the sunset over the mountains while having a decadent dinner was super romantic. Chef Mel greeted our table and the service was superb. The servers were as excited talking about the food as we were to eat it. We started with the foie gras. It was perfectly seared and the savoriness was nicely complimented by the sweetness of the peach pound cake and rhubarb chutney. Next we got a seared scallop, compliments of the chef and servers. It's hard to find well executed scallops and these were superb! The sear on the outside had a nice crispness. I had the Chilean sea bass. The kitchen definitely knows how to cook their fish. It was moist and flakey with a good char. The potato risotto was on the cusp of being over seasoned but was silky and melted like butter. My partner got the cut of the week which was a bone in filet. It was cooked to perfection. The squash and mole complimented it well. The lobster mac and cheese was made with havarti. It was deliciously creamy. We got the chocolate soufflé for dessert. There was never a long wait, it always felt like he was going above and beyond, and it was all very nice. When making my reservation with Open Table I noted it was someone's birthday and the menus were specially printed with a birthday message - talk about a nice touch! The setting is breathtakingly gorgeous. Of course the Four Seasons grounds are beautiful, and there is wonderful Pinnacle Peak and the sunset to enjoy off the patio. If the weather allows it, I highly recommend a patio table. The food was very good too. I guess the only reason this is a 4 star review instead of 5 stars is that the dessert wasn't all that great. I should say the dessert we paid for* because the complimentary truffles we received with a birthday message (again, what outstanding and caring service!) were amazing. I had: - Beet & Goat Cheese Salad: Such a beautiful dish, a real treat for the eyes. It also tasted very good, so while not unique nor large, it was a yummy start to the meal. I probably wouldn't order it again though - the only app I need is the complimentary buttery skillet bread. - Butternut Squash Risotto: The vegetarian entree for the day and I initially groaned because risotto is the de facto veg entree. This was the best risotto I've ever had! So creamy yet the rice still had a strong texture to it, instead of being mushy. The mushrooms and other vegetables were a great mix of textures and overall the flavor was very good. - Chocolate Mousse: I just didn't like this. Our meals took forever (over 1.5 hours) to arrive and once they finally did the cook was off on the steaks & other dishes were bland and under-seasoned. Overall, we enjoyed our time but too many things were average to say we'll return. The view and ambiance are great. We were there for sunset and it was beautiful. The service was 5 stars for the most part with several different people attending to the table. They have quite a unique specialty cocktail menu, my husband got 2 different drinks and he enjoyed both quite a bit. I stuck with wine. Appetizer: Octopus - Average We may be spoiled from having octopus in Greece, but it was a little tough. I know its meant to be a little chewy, but this was on the tougher side. Main: CAB Filet - Very Good Main: Bacon Wrapped Buffalo w/ Foie Gras - Average/Underwhelming Lack of flavor and very one note. I was very surprised given all the different elements on the plate. The carrots had this super orange sugary flavor that didn't compliment the meal. Sides: Spaghetti Squash Carbonara - Terrible It was cold, mushy and lacked seasoning. Sides: Lobster Mac & Cheese - Average Every fancy restaurant now has this and its never as good as it sounds Dessert: Souffle - Very good Glad we went, checked that box. Service Attention to detail Flavorful WOW! Let's begin at the bar. You know when you order a martini at some places you need to teach the staff how to do their job. Not here. We were super impressed with Britney. Never an empty glass. 5 stars! Yes they have my standby 1942. On to dinner. The manager greeted us by name, checked us in and when we were ready, escorted us to our window view table. After we caught our breath from the view. Tapas was next. The meatballs had touches of cinnamon and spice. Wow! Brings back memories of my mother in law's amazing lamb. I had the filet. WOW! One of the best prepared presentations of steak this ELITE yelper has ever enjoyed. The scallops were perfect and wonderfully flavored. The bone in prime rib was a treat. We garnished with creamy mashed potatoes along with artichoke and scallions. Let's just finish before desert arrives. We need to come back and experience the Gin bar. Looks like something out of a movie. A little bar for 12 filled with Gins and assorted potions. Who knew this was here? We have brunch at the sister restaurant Proof several times a month. This has been our go to place for fine dining since it opened. But last nights dinner was poor. The rice in the paella was dry and the shellfish was over cooked and shriveled up. And the clams were sandy. The vegetable paella was lacking in vegetables and salty. This was a birthday dinner which I informed them when I booked and no mention was ever made that they were aware of this. They need to kick it up a notch if they are going to charge $250 for a dinner for 2. Not sure we will go again. Came here yesterday with my boyfriend for our 1 year anniversary/valentines day. Made reservations for 6:30 but arrived early to grab cocktails at the Onyx Bar & sat outside in the patio area watching the sunset...it was very beautiful & romantic. Afterwards we were seated outside in the patio area of the restaurant right next to the fireplace facing the mountain view. Again it was a very beautiful & romantic ambience. We started our dinner with complimentary warm hot dinner rolls that were super yummy & addicting. They were freshly baked & were so soft that it melted in your mouth. They were topped poppy seeds & came with butter topped with Hawaiian sea salt...so good! Next we shared a beet, pear, arugula & candied pecan salad. For entrees we had the sea bass topped with braised short rib on a bed of potato risotto and the "cow of the week" which was waygu beef with risotto & foie gras. We also ordered the lobster Mac & cheese (it was decent but not memorable). We were pleased with our dinner & it ended with complimentary chocolate covered cheesecake bites. They also gave us a small box of truffles as a gift for our anniversary. Overall the service & staffs were great. 4 star for the food, 3 star for the service & 5 star prices = 2 star for the value (I decided to be generous with 3 stars). Not a good evening when you are paying 5 star prices and getting a 3 star dining experience. There was a VIP seated next to us who monopolized the attention of the staff. The food is good, but not great. I ordered the $28 lobster tostada appetizer. It was so small that I laughed out loud when the plate was presented to me. Because of an issue with my wife's soup I suspect my lobster dish sat in the kitchen for 10 - 15 minutes. This caused the chips to get soggy prior to being delivered to our table. Because we had a late lunch, my wife and I decided to split a $54 paella. The dish was fine, but the $28 glass of wine that I requested be served with the paella did not show up a full five minutes after receiving the paella. When the waiter finally poured the wine I was shocked by the size of the pour (5 oz at best). The wine was delicious, but for $28 I would expect enough wine to last more than halfway thru the entree. We were so disappointed with our meal that we skipped desert and headed to the bar in hopes of drinking our disappointment away.
