I feel terrible about only giving 3 stars. This place has been a part of my childhood. I remember going here for dim sum and for dinners so often in high school. To be totally fair though, the competition for good restaurants in Southern CA is pretty tough! I do like that the parking is sufficient. I don't have to drive around and around to park my car as I would have to do when I visit LA restaurants. The same waiters and staff have been working there for years and it feels more familial. Everyone is helpful. The only thing a first timer has to know is that it is probably best to walk over to the cashier to pay the check. The food is alright. I think it needs a tad bit more flavor. The soy sauce saves the day. It's warm and filling. Going to Kim Su is a nostalgic event for me. I will be back again hopefully soon. read more

I'm not a dim sum connoisseur but I thought this place was delicious. We were seated quickly, and once we were settled carts started rolling by with consistency. I feel at other restaurants they don't stop by your table regularly, but when you do, they're rushing you to make your selection. I appreciated that the employees constantly kept our teapots full and that they come by our table regularly without us having to flag them down. Onto the food: it was delicious. I don't know the names of all the items, but the fried football with meat inside was crispy on the outside and gooey in the inside. We also had shu mai, various shrimp dishes, chicken feet, and sweet tofu, all which were soooo good. This has become my new favorite dim sum restaurant! read more

My cousin reserved this restaurant for a party of 70+ guests. They were able to accommodate, however, we were not in a private room. Our party was near the back right next to the stage and we were able to use the stage for cake, presents and speeches. The staff accommodated our party and provided good service. I don't know the exact names of the items my cousin ordered but we got a veggie/fish soup as an appetizer, beef, whole fried fish, combo lo mein, and honey walnut shrimp. I thought the food was actually pretty decent (in comparison to others I've tried). The food was plentiful and we were full. We actually had leftovers. We were able to bring in our cake, and the staff assisted in cutting and passing out the cake for us. Kim su has been around for years! Ever since I was a kid from what I can remember. Me and my friends were craving dim sum recently and it was on a Saturday as well. We were thinking of places that aren't overly crowded and where parking isn't pain. We remembered Kim su being a decent place and parking was always easily available. As I arrived around 1pm, I was surprised to see the parking lot not full, and as I walked inside, the restaurant wasn't as busy. I'm not sure if the quality or people just go to other restaurants. The interior is still stuck in the early 2000 but im not judging them on that haha.As we sat down, the nice work ladies started coming around with the dim sum carts and asking what we wanted. Everything came fast and quick. We ordered all our favs, fried rice and walnut shrimp. Overall, quality of food isn't the best but it's not the worst. If you're looking for a dim sum place which waits aren't over and hour, come to Kim su and you won't be disappointed. read more

Asked for coffee and by the time I'd finished the sentence the waiter was gone. Other tables had the same issue, even having to shout for things because literally no one was coming over. Like others have said, the dim sum is ok. My friend and I wanted to eat dim sum at Dragon Phoenix but found out it was closed due to new ownership change and possible remodeling. So we went to Kim Su and feasted on their small plates. We had xiu mai, fried taro, Chinese donuts, rolled rice sheets, dumplings and several others. I normally judge a place by its xiu mai and fried taro. The xiu mai was good, but nothing outstanding. The fried taro was cold and I mean cold which made me go bleh. Fried taro should be crispy and warm on the outside, and steamy and hot on the inside. This one I had was dry and not so fun to nibble on. Service was alright where half of the time we got napkins, water and togo boxes on our own since we sat right next to the table which held all those items. It's alright for dim sum but I don't know about the seafood menu which I might try in the future. read more

A group of us had attempted to have dim sum at a different location but were thwarted by an over 45 minute wait even though we had reservations. This establishment turned out to be quite good and I would give it another shot for sure. They have multiple live lobster tanks packed with some very large ones so you definitely know that it's fresh. read more

I came here with my family to eat dim sum and was extremely disappointed. We ordered dumplings, duck legs, banh bao, and a few other dishes. To sum it up, everything we ate was bland and had no defining flavors. Especially anything that had shrimp in it. The shrimp dumplings and fried shrimp balls were let-downs if I were to put it lightly. If you are ever looking for a dim sum spot, I highly recommend that you go find another spot. This place took advantage of my cousin because his Viet skills were lacking. My dad wanted to eat Cua rang muoi so i had call in to order a 2.5 lb crab, the lady said it was 14/lb and i said ok. 2.5 x 14 = $35 However when my cousin came to pick up the food she said some crap in Vietnamese and ended up charging him $56 ... LOL wtf who the fuck pays almost $60 bucks for ONE crab. Asian restaurant are the notorious for trying to cheat you a few bucks here and there, but double charging is just plain scandalous. Obviously being the hot tempered, crazy person that i am LOL i came back and complained, she said oh hunny its 3.5 lbs thats why and i said put it on the scale and they did it ended up being 2.7 lbs including the foil tray. I grew up in Hong Kong, so maybe my standards are way too high, but the dim sum here was meh. Lack of variety, flavor and delicacy. It was all very heavy and bland. I won't be coming back. This review is bordering on 3 stars, and that's being generous. Came here for the annual Lunar New Year luncheon. Service was just ok. The place was not busy and we had to ask many times for things like bowls, chopsticks, utensils, napkins. At 12:00 didn't really see a good selection of dim sum. We ordered a few dim sum and a bunch of lunch specials to share family style. The menudo was chewy, and most was left untouched. Har gow shrimp was chewy too, sitting in the steam tray too long. The lunch specials came with a sour, hot n sour soup. The entrees came out quickly, as it should since it wasn't busy. Food was tasty but they used a lot of fillers, like mostly onions and peanuts on the Kung pao chicken. My biggest disappointment was the House Special lobster. A four pound lobster for $60. First, when the lobster is too big, there's no flavor and it's old and chewy. We should've had 2, smaller ones equalling four pounds. IMHO it was not worth the money. After spending almost $200 we were not offered dessert. The waiter said it's only at dinner, and gave oranges. Where's the fortune cookies??? I told my coworker next year we are going somewhere else. Always get the shu mai and shrimp balls and fried duMplings and spare rib(not what you expect) the lobster special is unbelievable only thing we haven't enjoyed are the soup dumplings which are a new item . Har gow, shu mai, sticky rice, feng zhou (chicken feet), dan tat... all looked like they'd seen better days. Pai gut (pork spareribs) were the only thing that looked close to good. Deep fried shrimp ball wasn't bad either, but it definitely wasn't very good. Beef tripe was like the shrimp ball-- wasn't bad but not memorable. Wow....what a huge disappointment!! My family and I have been coming to Kim Su for over 35 years. Even after moving to Riverside, we'd still make the drive on that horrid 91 freeway to come and eat here. After today, we NOT return. We were the only brown folks there, and were treated so unfairly. As they walked around with their carts, they would skip our table and only attend the Asian folks. This isn't the first time it's happened or that we've been discriminated against at KimSu, it's been happening for the past couple years but we have returned hoping that it was a misunderstanding or something. After today, we realized it is intentional. They do NOT want brown folks in their restaurant. The only reason why we came today was because my daughter is pregnant and was craving Dim Sum. But we only had the opportunity to order a couple dishes, because the ones we really wanted were only offered to the Asian folks, not us. They recently remodeled and I'm not sure if they changed owners as well but the dimsum here isn't good anymore. We went around 12:30 pm and maybe they stopped making the dishes fresh but their dimsum hours don't end until 3 pm. The egg tarts were absolutely terrible. I used to be a fan of them but one bite of these made me feel sick. I could taste that they used old oil in the pastry and maybe even oil that they used to fry other stuff because I could taste a savory meaty element in the crust. Me and my parents all had stomachaches after eating here. Their shrimp balls are way too oily I could barely eat half of one. We came here for dim sum, it was mediocre at best and the servings of shu mai and bar gow were tiny and mostly dry or stuck to the dish. The chicken feet were over seasoned and looked like it had been steamed too long. The shrimp noodles were pretty thick and not airy as they normally should be. Updated review July 7, 2019 Sunday! This place is never worthy of our TIPS $. This review is for their customers service experience... We just had brunch at Kim Su today and we are so extremely upset because of AUTOMATIC TIPS INCLUDED (party of 6 or more). We found out after we questioned them our bill which the items wrote in Chinese language. We are a party of 6 plus a baby. Our bill was $180 and $25+ tips was added to a total of $208. We found out today 15% have been added as tips money to bills which they never told us. The SERVICE ALWAYS BAD BAD BAD like many times before so tips was something we added on the table at the end of our choice. For this bill the most we would put is about $10 because of either okay/bad service. This place is never worthy of our Tips. For example ..They never bring us water unless we asked. They never refilled our water unless asked. They never serve customers with smiles. They charge Tea $1 per person (example 1 pot of tea with 6cups =$6). They charge rice also the same (1 pot, 6small bowl eating = $6). Even charging for every little thing with the bad service...They don't deserve 15% or $25 dollars more of our money any day. This will be the last time we are coming to their restaurant now that they enforced automatic gratuity. Everyone needs to know of this and BE SURE CHECK YOUR bills before putting additional tips on table. WE WILL NOT RETURN ... no matter how good the food is... Long story short, you're better off eating a typical Asian family style meal here than the dim sum. Compared to the other dim sum restaurants in the area Kim Su pales in comparison not only in terms of food, but also in customer service. I found it fairly difficult to wave down a waiter to grab us water and hot tea, items which should be offered the moment you get seated. My family would come here for dinner going back more than 15 years when we lived nearby. We usually ordered one of the preset dinners. The food was always delicious, generously portioned, and very well priced. I came back for the first time in 3 years and nothing has changed. I am fond of the Kung Pao Chicken, black bean clams, and crab in particular, but everything is good. I can't think of a bad dish. Now that I live in San Diego, I can say that if Kim Su was in San Diego, it would easily be the best Chinese restaurant in town. Their Kung pao chicken is excellent and incomparable. I remember dim sum being ok and cheap. I would rather go a few blocks away for better dim sum. However, Kim Su is my favorite restaurant for lunch and dinner dishes. read more

My moms and I go to place for dim sum. Usually we go during lunch time on weekdays so it's not as crowded comparable to weekends which is crazy crowded. We know most of the servers here so it makes it easy for us to order. What we usually order is the xiu Mai, ha Cao, chicken feet, banh cuon Tom, la xach (tripe), and suong heo ( this dish is a hit or miss, sometimes it tastes old and bad. Today was perfect) parking is sometimes bad, what I hate is parking in the back,but it's okay. We go to KimSu's whenever we get a craving for dimsum. Dimsum is tasty and prices are super affordable. I also love that the moment you are seated, you are almost immediately surrounded by the carts filled with deliciousness! With all that is going on (Covid 19 pandemic and stay at home orders), I called to place an order for dimsum at 9am. My food was ready for pick up by 9:30. It is super convenient! I've been coming to Kim Su for Dim Sum for as long as I can remember. The Dim Sum here is very good and priced fairly. The service is not the best but the food quality makes up for it. There is almost always a wait so come early if you're looking for Dim Sum. The Shumai and Har Gow here are spot on every time and one of the best in OC. My family and I have been going to Kim Su for ages. We go here for bdays, graduations, holidays and non holidays. Because of this, I may be a little biased. Kim Su is one of those very noisy, authentic Chinese places that gives you headaches because of all the commotion. Everyone is your waiter and no one is your waiter. You might ask for a fork 4 times before one actually arrives. You could ask for hot sauce and they'll probably bring you soy sauce, then fish sauce, then chili oil sauce before getting it right. It may take you less than a minute to get seated or it could take you twenty. Sometimes there's a hostess; sometimes there isn't. It's just random chaos, but it grows on you because the food is soooo good!! They have dim sum on the weekends, which I have mixed feelings about, but you can never go wrong when you order off the menu. Their wet seaweed dish is amazing. As is their seafood hard egg noodles. First time trying DIM SUM! Oh my goodness. So many things to choose from. My friends and I were hungry and one of them recommended that we should all try this place out. (Btw my friends are all on Yelp. I checked in first and earned The Instigator Badge! YAY ) She stated that she's been coming here for over 20 years and it's a family favorite. I've never had Dim Sum before so of course I was open to trying something new. We had arrived and there was a huge crowd hovering in between, and outside the double doors. Oh my! I was hungry and not looking forward to waiting another 30 minutes to be seated. My friend put our name down and not even 10 minutes later they called our number. I was impressed! These guys are fast. We entered the restaurants and there were so many things going on. There were woman pushing carts filled with a wide variety of different Chinese foods. As they passed each table, you simply tell them what you want and they place it right in front of you. Hot & Ready to eat. Before they leave they stamp your little card/bill and that's how they keep track of what you're eating. Many carts pass by with different things and your table just keeps piling up. It's so cool. I felt like I was at an outdoor market in China.... Trying all the street foods. I've never had any of these types of foods, so my friends kindly guided me and made me try so many yummy things. I'm not a huge seafood fan so I was a bit picky. Amazingly, they had many things for any type of food lover. Vegetables, Fish, Beef, Pork, Chicken. You name it. Although it was good....
