I finally found a place for Bun Bo Hue in Austin! It comes in two sizes, S and L. The large bowl is huge, so if you have a big appetite, go for the L since the price difference isn't much. I have to say, it's authentic. The broth is a little spicy, so be aware of that. I love that it's not super strong in shrimp paste flavor, but still has enough spice and flavor. Healthy amount of meat with 2 pieces of cha and 1 piece of blood coagulate. Lime, bean sprouts, and cabbage come on the side. Highly recommend. P.S. I did try a few bites of the pho that my friend ordered. Not for me. I think the broth was too sweet and strong in aromatics, but the noodles were good. Nice and speedy service. My favourite is the regular sized beef broth pho with fresh made noodles and three toppings: meatball, brisket & brisket (tried the fatty brisket this time and ended up with cuts containing 99% fat - not at all what was expected). I visited this restaurant with a large group, and unfortunately they didn't seem equipped to handle group orders well. Service felt disorganized, and even basic things like enough spoons and veggies for our pho were lacking. They mixed up our orders several times and kept bringing out extra or wrong dishes. The food was also disappointing overall. The pho was overly salty and fresh noodles didn't taste fresh. The bun bo hue stayed salty even after adding a ton of lime and extra veggies. The mi xao gion was oddly sweet and pretty skimpy on the seafood. One thing that really stood out (in a bad way) was the pho ga, who puts grilled chicken in pho ga? Not authentic Vietnamese food. It just didn't make sense and didn't work. We ordered salted cream coffee which came out relatively quickly and decent so I'll give them that. I got the ube coffee to start which is so delicious, one of my favorites in town. We started with spring rolls, both the pork and tofu. I ordered pho with fresh noodles and he ordered number 42. My pho came out first when we hadn't finished the spring rolls yet and he didn't get his entree for another 10 minutes. Service could definitely be more present and attentive. It would've been nice if the courses arrived at the same time. When it comes to pho the fresh (house) noodles are definitely the way to go. The soup is legit, strong flavors, tart, deep, tangy, spicy, earthy, it's made from scratch. Not from a jar or powder. I was very impressed. Yes it didn't come with the standard pork bone with the skin on or a side of fermented shrimp paste but who cares when it comes with a ton of meat. Did I say meats? Nice chewy noodles, firm and dense blood cake, seafood tasting cube, sliced meat loaf. It was an amazing experience, took me to the mother land Vietnam. I decided to also try the pho Dac Biet which is the special dish that comes with all the different types of cuts of meat from fatty brisket, 1 meatball, 1 beef tendon. The overall bowl was great. I love how the soup wasn't as fatty as other pho restaurants. For those that are a little health-conscious if you were to refrigerate your soup overnight, you'll see a thin layer that's yellow of solid fat and I always do that with every pho I order but with this restaurant what I really love is that the soup is already clear so I don't have to refrigerate it. The soup is aromatic and very flavorful. Nice beef flavor and again I love how the aerobatics are a little bit more pronounced this time. In my opinion, it's better than Pho Saigon or Pho Huong. Overall, I wish it came with more than 1 meat ball and more than 1 tendon. I just heard about this spot from one of my friends. Food was good. I liked the rare streak pho with fresh noodles. Lemongrass shrimp with vermicelli was even better. However, I have had much better banh mi. This one was dry. I picked with fried tofu and had to add some sauce from lemongrass shrimp to that. Sandwich was made from fresh bread but had little of veggies. Dry. Plain flavor. I liked the fact they were giving bottle waters instead of tap waters. It was clean and nice inside, customer service was very friendly. I took one star for the plastic wrap I found in pho broth before giving it to my child. I am glad I saw it first before eating. Finished a Longhorn football win on a Saturday early evening, and wondered where to eat to satisfy my appetite. Hearing from my friend there is a neighborhood joint along north Austin in the Tech Ridge area called "Fresh Bowl", and he is big on Asian foods. They allow online ordering for pickup, dine-in and carry out options as well. This restaurant is your average looking Asian restaurant, but they crank out some delcious food for sure! They have plenty of seating area and it looks kid-friendly to bring groups and families for a meal. This Vietnamese restaurants brings some classic dishes and has some dishes of their own as well. My friend got the Crawfish Fried Rice which is to die for! This is an amazing dish that tasted wonderful with a slight cajun kick. I got the Stir-Fried Rice Noodles and it was probably one of the best dishes I've had there. It has a great variety of vegetables, the noodles have a nice char on them with some chew, and the choice of meat was nice and tender. We are genuinely pleased with the restaurant and it served us well. We will be back for sure! read more

I adore Fresh Bowl; the food is always so good. It's spacious and super clean, the staff is all nice and incredibly helpful too. The food though, that's where this place shines. Like seriously, I'd be ok if the staff was a little rude to me to be honest. Get a tofu Bahn Mi. Or any Bahn Mi, they're delicious and super affordable. It's my favorite thing to get at lunchtime. I've heard the pork version is good for the omnivores. I think about that sandwich pretty often. They have a ton of lovely drink options. Hubs ordered a wintermelon refresher drink and said it was super sweet and refreshing. He did end up cutting it with water toward the end, said the sweetness was a bit much for the whole drink. Got the grilled pork banh mi and asked for extra jalapeños in the notes, because there wasn't an option to pay for extra jalapeños. Not only did they not give me extra jalapeños, they gave me just one single piece instead of the usual 2 pcs. Like ??? If I hadn't asked for extra jalapeños would I have gotten more? Called them to let them know and the girl just says "I'm sorry about that." No explanation or anything. So I put on my Karen hat and asked to speak with the manager, and was told "she's not available but I'll tell her." Unconvinced, I asked for the manager to call me back, the girl then says "sure" and hangs up. Doesn't take my number or anything. First time trying the new spot out, but came to their former spot solely for the BBH. I can confirm Fresh bowl did not change the BBH and it is still one of the best in town. I ordered to go and built it at home and they gave me plenty of food. They pack the to-go perfectly as well with no issues. I also tried their lemon pepper wings. They were nice in size, good breading, and fresh seasoning. Will get these again. I also ordered a Vietnamese coffee to go. Asked for no ice so I could have it the next morning and it wouldn't be watered down. Been here 3x now all to go. Will try a sitdown soon and report back. Love this local Vietnamese joint! The food I've had before from the banh mi to the pho to the rice have all been solid. The most recent time I came, I ordered the rice with pork (only $12.50!) and the pork was super flavorful. Would recommend. They give you water bottles for water, and the crunchy roll ordered as an appetizer came out super fast. You go up to the register to pay after you're done with your meal. I ordered the banh mi again, and while it was still good, it might have been an off day or if the first time I went they were having a good day, because the bread was a lot harder and crumbier this time around. I usually get Pho with rare steak on the side so it doesn't overcook by the time I eat it. The service here is really top notch, the interior is really clean and inviting and it's always been a great eating experience. Both the Pho and the Bun bo hue are flavorful and tastes very good. If you order the combo steam rice, it comes with pork skin and egg cake which a lot of other restaraunts don't include. My only nitpick is them giving away bottle of water for every meal. The pho broth was a little on the sweeter side which wasn't my favorite. The garlic fish sauce wings were also kinda sweet and sauce seemed drizzled on instead of cooked with the meat together.
