Tan My is one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Austin. Its a small family owned restaurant and will usually have a wait on the weekends, but it is totally worth the wait. Some of my favorite dishes to order is their pho dac biet, com chien thap cam (combination fried rice), hoanh thanh mi (wonton soup), and mi thap cam - dry. They also have delicious chili oil to compliment your favorite dish. Just FYI: This place is tucked in a shopping strip behind the Target, and parking is limited. read more

Came here for lunch on a Monday afternoon. As most of the reviews say I definitely recommend coming before noon for lunch if you want to get a parking spot and seated reasonably quickly. Their menu has a nice array of options at very cheap prices given the portion size. Since they seemed to be most well know for their soup I decided to try the chicken soup (despite the scorching heat being far from soup weather). The soup was okay, nothing about it was super flavorful, I was definitely leaning on the hot sauce throughout the meal. The chicken was pretty rough and there weren't a ton of veggies in the soup. The saving grace here is the cheap prices, enormous portions and speedy service. If you're hungry and in a rush for a quick sit down place this isn't a bad option, but otherwise it's nothing special. read more

My husband and are visiting for a few days. We've been eating good ole American food for the past few days. We were craving Asian food and figured we'd eat some Vietnamese food, given that we had a yummy Viet snack (summer rolls) in the morning at another city and was craving more. I found this place on Yelp and saw some pretty good reviews. We got there around 6pm on a Saturday. They were pretty packed. (That's a good sign. LOL) we got seated very quickly and the older gentleman took our order. My hubs got the #2 large pho and I got the Bun Bo Hue. Omg! These noodle soups hit the spot for us. It was so good. The bbh taste even better than a few places I've tried in Cali. ( I'm a Cali girl.) The pork blood was smooth and not gamy. It was a tad too spicy for me but that didn't stop me from eating that whole bowl of noodles. The meat was thinly sliced. The only complaint is that I wished they had some mint leaves to go with the bbh, but I improvised and threw in some basil. My hubs enjoyed his pho, but it didn't have a lot of tripe and tendon. Some reviews said the service wasn't great. I had a very different experience. The older guy who took our order came by to check in on us to see how was everything and one of the waiters refilled our water without having to waive someone down. I got the ban no hue and my sister got the vermicelli noodles with egg rolls and chicken. Both were really good! I will say I'm a bit newer to Vietnamese cooking so I wasn't used to the ban bo hue but next time I come here I really want to try the pho tai. The fried egg roll appetizers were also really really good. I got the iced coffee to finish my meal and it was so interesting because it came out with the drip mechanism and i had to stir it in with the condensed milk before adding it to ice. Very cool! Can't believe I haven't been here for almost 1.5 yrs. It's still the top place to look for comfort pho soup. And their bun bo hue is still my fav, it comes with pork blood, pork feet and brisket, I know it sounds disgusting for some people but it's honestly the reason why I liked it. The drip coffee with condensed milk is also really good. Because my friend doesn't eat red meat, she ordered chicken pho and we asked to take out the pork in the spring roll. Tan My is the best! My wife and I have been eating there for years and we've missed it during COVID. We ordered Uber eats and got this lovely message from the folks there! Bun Bo Hue and the 55b (rice noodles, chicken, shrimp, beef with basil sauce) are our go to orders. We can't recommend Tan My enough- the food is consistently delicious, the people there are awesome, and if you're in a hurry, orders always come out quickly. Tan My was a refreshingly authentic experience, with the most friendly staff. I arrived for lunch on a Saturday around 12:30PM and it was packed! We had a party of 6, but only waited 10-15 minutes for a table. The size of the place is relatively small for how busy they appear. Dine-in hours are currently limited to 10am-3pm, but they do takeout for the rest of the day. They are located within a plaza that has a parking lot, but during peak hours, you may have to park on the street to the side of the restaurant. Food was A+, pho may be the best I've had in Austin so far, very generous portion sizes at fair prices (great sign of authenticity). Their Vietnamese iced coffee is served via drip - definitely my new go to for this! I will certainly be back to try more! read more

This was my very first experience with Tan My. I ordered a Bun Bo Hue takeout to go. When I got home I realized the styrofoam container had broken and a good portion of the soup had leaked out :( However, things were packaged nicely, and the soup did not contaminate the other ingredients as they were all packed separately. I was disappointed about this but the food was sooooooo good I couldn't be upset about it. They didn't skimp on the sides (bean sprouts, cabbage, jalapenos, limes even hoisin sauce / chili garlic sauce) and the soup was super flavorful and piping hot! I drove from San Antonio to Austin for bun Bo hue. So let me dissect it out for you: Portion- huge Broth - could use a bit more spice but was quiet unexpectedly delicious Meat - good but sparse given such a large bowl. They could give more meat. Huyet - aka blood sausage. Delicious. Fresh. Veggies - they charge 2$ extra for bean sprouts and Thai mint. The odd part - broccoli and mushroom in my broth which is not traditional for this dish. At least not anywhere I've seen and not when I make this at home. It wasn't bad it was just not something I ever encountered Sate - I'm still not sure if they have sate. They handed me what looked like chili oil. Overall- the best bun bo hue I've had in Texas. Will frequent for some take out whenever I'm in Austin. read more

This is my favorite Pho spot in Austin. The quality is always 10/10. My only con is their hours for dining indoors (maybe they're short on staff due to the pandemic). I stopped going here because after 3 o'clock you can only order your food to go. Pho isn't as good when you have to take it home and reheat it up. It's May 2022 now and everything is opening back up and getting as back to as normal as possible. They used to have big crowds for dinner, I assume they're making enough during lunch. I hope this isn't permanent as I don't work near the restaurant to still be a regular like I used to and eat during lunch instead of dinner. Solid pho spot, but I'm annoyed that I can't dine in. i ordered pho for takeout and was a bit disappointed. the broth was flavorful but the meat was a bit dry and the noodles kept falling apart and weren't very chewy. my friend got their chicken pho thinking it would come with chicken broth but the broth was the same as my regular pho. overall not bad, but wouldn't be my first choice for pho. read more

The first thing on the Tan My menu is Pho Rau. Mmm broccoli, yes! Ordered it to go. Got it home. No broccoli. Not worth $15 to get an order missing one of its main attractions/ingredients. Sadly, my hub felt the same way about the spring rolls. Isn't this supposed to have shrimp and pork in it? he said with his mouth full of vermicelli while showing me a wrap full of vermicelli. We spun the roll around looking to spy anything approximating protein. A sprig of something meatish was tucked in the back corner. Oh, said my hub defeated, that's disappointing. For starters, don't let the 'dry' part of the dish deter you from trying. It comes with a bowl of broth on the side, so 'in case' you want it wet, you might pour it in. BOMB DOT COM. After a long morning of trying to figure out what my co-worker wanted to eat, I ended up here by myself. Long story short - it worked out for me. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue (BBH - spicy beef noodles) and a Ca Phe Sua Da (iced viet coffee) as I always do when going to a new Vietnamese place. I ordered the BBH with no pig's foot but with extra blood cubes. The broth and blood cubes were on point. The coffee was delicious! The dish and coffee came out in less than 5 minutes. Wow! I really appreciated the quickness because this place was at least 10 mins from my work. They were super friendly... the owner didn't recognize me so he asked where I was from and stuff. The pho broth was not that savory but tasted on the sweeter side which we are not accustomed to. However, the noodles and meat were very tender. The spring roll was one of the worst we had. It did not taste good (inside was mostly fillers - carrots and vermicelli & very little meat). It felt like we were eating subpar Chinese fried egg rolls in the Chinese fast food take outs. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. The young Asian girl that works there is VERY VERY I repeat VERY rude. There are many yummy Pho places in Austin. This one is no longer on my list of pho places to go. We decided to go here today (1/20/2024) around 4pm. They were not busy, about half of the restaurant was full. We got seated immediately with no menu so I asked the Hispanic employee who didn't speak any English but did understand my hand motion. An Asian male came out a couple minutes later and took our 3 orders. Two pho and 1 hu tiêu xào don(Crispy pho noodles with meat) and after 25 minutes of waiting, I went up to ask since a couple customers who came in after me had already received and started eating their food. The RUDE Asian girl said it's coming and she proceeded to the kitchen to check as I told her " if you guys haven't cooked our orders, just cancel it" she gave me the dirty look and attitude as she asked the chef. She then walked to my table and told me that because I ordered a fried dish, it will take a little longer. All while giving me a rude attitude and dirty looks. It was enough that she gave me an attitude when I walked up there let along come back again with more attitude. My group immediately stood up and left due to the poor customer service we received. As we walked out, she yelled across the restaurant "Cancel the Order, they are leaving.....without saying anything" as to let all customer's know that we did not give her the courtesy or informed her that we were leaving. - I will not be coming back here again and management needs to re-train their staff if this is how they are treating all customers. read more
