This is my favorite pho place. I always get the meatball pho. Even the small bowl is a pretty decent size serving. Seating is mainly family style as in multiple tables are put together so you may be sitting literally side by side with another customer. No big deal but it may be difficult if you plan on coming with a huge group plan to wait. They are typically pretty busy during the lunch rush. But it's worth the wait. (House special seafood noodles) I was expecting egg noodles but it was all rice noodles. The pork broth was delicious and perfectly stewed. The amount of meat and seafood was generous. And the crispy shrimp wonton was a special treat!!! I got a small bowl and had plenty leftover. I'm impressed at how fresh the veggies and herbs were. Service was great. Tan My is located in one of the tiniest strip malls ever, so head here early otherwise parking is definitely an issue. Not a ton of tables inside, and if you're at a table configuration for a larger group, you may be asked to shift around if your food hasn't come out in order to accommodate larger parties. It's all a bit informal. If you see an empty spot, feel free to grab it. Or they'll help seat you. All soups come in two sizes: small and large. Just a heads up about the large... It's a pretty big bowl. Their soups have good flavor - the pho with the beef base and the rice noodle soups with chicken/pork/shrimp seem to have a chicken base. No mater the size, they don't skimp on portions. And all soups come with a plate of mung beans, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime wedges. Rolls are rolled right and have a delicious peanut sauce. Shrimp fried rice has a good wok fired taste and loaded with shrimp. Stir fried noodles are equally yummy. And the best is the mix of 55b and 55c - wide flat chunks of rice noodle deep fried so they look likely crispy chunks of tofu, with chicken, shrimp and beef with broccoli and a basil brown sauce. Decided to try this place out after seeing a few IG posts regarding their noodles/soup. They only offer take-out at this time and picking my package was super easy. I ordered #30 MI TOM THIT (Egg noodle soup with BBQ pork, chicken and shrimp (Around $10 total). They have such a big selection so it was great that they offer translation and description. I absolutely loved my bowl of noodles. They included a big bag of bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapenos, lettuce, etc. I would have to say, that this dish was awesome, resonably priced and filled with lots of goodies. We went here when there was a cold front. Our new thing is to try and check out new restaurants because we tend to go to the same ones. I had heard this one is good and it did not disappoint. As soon as you walk in you KNOW it is going to be authentic just because of the crowd it attracts. The ambiance is casual, but honestly I like it that way because fancy restaurants can be intimidating. You can come here in regular sweat pants and still be served amazing food. Tan My is delicious!!! A lot of people have recommended Tan My as the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Austin, and I'd have to agree. Even the interior reminds me of Dallas Pho restaurants. I typically order the beef pho with brisket and tripe, but I love their flat noodles as well! They put a good amount of meat in each dish. The beef pho broth is so rich and flavorful. My issue with a lot of pho restaurants in Austin is that their broth is too light, but Tan My's broth is just right. I also don't usually have a strong opinion on flat noodle dishes, but theirs is seasoned and cooked really well. I also love their Thai Iced Tea. It's the first I've tried in a restaurant that isn't overly sweet, and it tastes pretty authentic. I really recommend Tan My. Arguably the best Pho place in Austin. Definitely a hidden gem. To start my meal, of course, the egg rolls are always a must for me when eat Vietnamese food. It just isn't complete unless I order some. They were pretty good. The outside was really crispy and it was fresh. Next, the Pho. Wow, this is the Best pho I've had in awhile. I ordered the large Pho Tai Nam and it was wonderful. I will definitely say that this is the best tasting Pho in Austin. The service is pretty good in terms of taking our order and bringing it out. It definitely was not a long wait. There were more items on the menu that I wanted to try, but sadly you can't always eat everything. The bowl is a great size with a broth that is super rich and flavorful. Not a lot of places here in Austin offer the rare beef in the pho so when I saw this I was surprised. Everyone knows that Houston is the best place for Vietnamese food, but after a long search, this place is officially my favorite pho place I've been to. The hours are odd, the place is small, but damn does this place have great pho! The broth is nice and dark, full of flavor without needing to add hoisin sauce. We decided to order some extra fatty broth to further the umami flavor. Without a doubt the best Vietnamese food Austin has to offer. I'm from Houston, which definitely has a strong Vietnamese food scene, so it was difficult to find places in Austin that could service those standards. However, I had visited Tan My last year right before COVID and was wowed by their vermicelli bowl - which was arguably better than many of the places I frequent back at home. I've been craving Tan My ever since that experience, and with them stopping dine-in due to COVID, my cravings were all the more intensified. Once hearing it had opened up sit down options again for lunch, Tan My was first on the list once I arrived in Austin. I decided on Pho this time around, as the quality of broth and meat were what I wanted to formulate my final ratings on. Being more of a fan of lean cuts of meat, I opted for the Pho Tai, which was composed of primarily thin brisket cuts. The meat cooked itself within the broth, akin to shabu, and it was wonderfully tender. The broth itself was amazing. I typically try to deviate from adding sriracha or hoisin sauce into my pho, but I frequently end up doing so as they are usually lacking in just a little flavor. However, this wasn't the case for Tan My. The broth was deliciously rich, needing nothing to compliment itself as it was already a perfect product. I added beansprouts and peppers just for some volume and a little kick, but the flavors from the onions to the rice noodles were all delectable. I am so glad this place made it through the pandemic. And really, I shouldn't be surprised, because I ordered a lot of take out from this place pre-pandemic so they know how to pack their food so it tastes as good at home as it does in the restaurant. If you're going for pho, the traditional Vietnamese beef noodle soup, I love #9 (eye round steak and brisket) and #16 (beef meatballs). Feeling chickeny instead? The #26 (wonton and egg noodle soup) or #28 (egg noodle soup with bbq pork) are excellent. When I'm counting calories, I go for the rice vermicelli bowls. Soft, warm thin rice noodles with grilled meat on top and cold veggies underneath (lettuce, pickled veggies, cucumbers, and bean sprouts). The vermicelli with charbroiled pork #38 has great flavor and is my go to. If you want to splurge on a few grilled shrimp, #42 has you covered.
