Tried this new Korean place in Hayward and was pleasantly surprised by how good the food is. Their seafood pancake is tasty but the portion is definitely on the smaller side. However, their dweji gukbop (pork bone soup) absolutely made up for it - rich, flavorful and incredibly comforting. Their galbi soup is packed with depth and tender meat. Even though the restaurant is very new, it's already getting busy, and you can tell they are a bit short staffed so service may run slow during peak times. read more

What a wonderful local restaurant to add to our rotation. We ended up just randomly picking something close by on a Sunday evening and while driving by, were a bit sad that Sapporo closed, but pleasantly surprised by Tang Jip. Amazing food, friendly service, fully remodeled and just a cozy place to go that is a few mins away from home. Nick the owner is the son of the previous owner so they have kept the venue in the family. The food is authentic and really good and they locally pickle their own kimchi and panjeon. And they have pickled bok choy which you won't find elsewhere! Definitely recommend! We will be back! read more

I love getting gamjatang or the gamja jeongol here. Although my companions pointed out the fact that, you can taste that the pork back bones were from frozen. Still, flavor was hearty, and there were plenty of goodies in the soup. Now, service was lackluster. They did the very bare minimum of serving dishes and cleaning up. The chicken katsu came out juicy with the perfect touch of crisp. My daughter annihilated the corn cheese with a bowl of rice. There's a good balance of cheese to mayo. Really cute spot! We came in right when they opened, so it was calm and not busy at all. The staff greeted us right away and ordering was super easy since everything is done through a tablet at the table. Our food came out quickly, which was a plus. We ordered the beef tofu soup. It wasn't bubbling hot like some tofu soups, but when I cracked the egg in, it soft-boiled perfectly, which I actually loved. The flavor was decent... maybe not the best tofu soup I've ever had, but still comforting and satisfying. We also tried the marinated crab. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but we were in it for the experience and it didn't disappoint. We weren't sure how to eat it at first, but the staff kindly explained how to mix the crab with the rice and veggies. Once mixed together, it was really good and fun to eat. I got to the restaurant on a Friday night around 6pm. The wait time was fairly quick (~15 mins) for a party of 2. I tried the galbi jim (beef short rib noodle soup), spicy raw marinated crab, and bossam (pork belly wraps). The side dishes added depth to the entrees. Though I was a bit disappointed in how there were only two small bites of noodles in the noodle soup, perhaps that's why it was on the cheaper side. Spicy raw marinated was decent but it was difficult to eat. No extra bowl was provided for the shells. Bossam was fresh and worth the price. The interiors and ambiance is beautiful at this restaurant, you order your food through an iPad where you can see photos all their food on their menu. I got the seollong tang and thought it was just alright, it was quite salty which is weird as I'm used to seollong tang to be rich in flavor but not salty and you add your own salt. The portion is pretty big which is nice but not the cheapest thing. $19.99 for a bowl. They gave a good amount of banchan and are good about refilling when you ask. Parking is relatively easy to find, there's a small parking lot nearby for free and street parking. Overall it is okay, not the worst Korean food but also not the best. But if I'm going to pay $20 for a bowl I would expect it to be pretty fire which this wasn't. I don't know if I would come back. read more

We really enjoyed our meal here! I've been wanting Galbitang so when I saw it on their menu, I had to get it. The broth was so healing and the meat fell right off the bone! I've eaten at Tang Jip twice and all of their dishes are really good! I've tried both of their spicy soups (Spicy Cabbage Galbitang and Yukgaejang) and they were both good. Their seafood pancake, gangjeong (crispy spicy chicken, beef bulgogi and bosssam are all delicious as well. It's the best bossam I've eaten. I thought their kimchi fried rice was okay. However, I do like their beef bibimbap. It was nice how the marinated crab comes with a fish roe rice bowl. Other places I've had marinated crab at do not include the fish roe rice. This is by far one of my favorite Korean places in the Bay Area. I also like how they are on DoorDash. The restaurant is also pretty spacious. My friends and I wanted to try this place after hearing that they had raw marinated crab! We came here on a Saturday for lunch and it was fairly busy, but we were able to get seated pretty fast. The interior is new, clean and modern- very different from the outside of where it's located at. We ordered the spicy raw marinated crab, kimchi tofu soup, seafood pancake and the beef bulgogi. Everything tasted delicious and fresh! The only thing was the shells of the raw crab were a bit hard and not easy to eat- but overall flavor was there. The banchan were all pretty good as well! Our party of 6 came for lunch, and the experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered the full-size galbi for $38.99, which came with only 6 or 7 medium-sized pieces and mostly pile of onions underneath. Half the meat was half burnt and black. When we politely asked for it to be remade, someone from the kitchen came out, looked at the burnt meat, and argued that it looked fine. He eventually took back the remaining 3 or 4 pieces but returned with only 2 replacement pieces. We also asked multiple times for side dish refills, but they never came. To top it off, the original check did not show a service charge, but a 20% service charge was added when our card was processed. For $38.99, you get a small portion of galbi with mostly raw onion slices, burnt meat that the kitchen insists is fine, missing refills, and a 20% service charge added at payment after initial check was presented. Hubs and I have been craving raw marinated crabs since we haven't had it in years since we've only heard good reviews in places in SoCal. When I heard a new location open up with good raw marinated crabs, we knew we had to come and try it out. I ordered the soy and he ordered the spicy crab and we were both able to finish each crabs. Tang Jip provides a bowl of rice with shredded seaweed and pickled veggies, but we thought it would've been nice to have a nori sheet to eat the everything together. I really liked the soy crab a lot and my hubs really liked the spicy crab. Overall, the food was good. But the service, like everyone said, was a bit slow especially when it started getting busy. We wanted to try this new spot since the old Japanese restaurant was gone and wow this did NOT disappoint! It was lively and bustling inside, loved the decor and the new design. You could tell the energy inside was great, other guests just enjoying their time. We got seated pretty quickly and already knew what we wanted to order. I was so excited when Tang Jip opened nearby--it's always great to see new restaurants in downtown Hayward! The space has been recently remodeled and feels modern, clean, and welcoming. I came here with friends, and we ordered the kimchi pancake, galbitang, and spicy soon du bu. The highlight for us was definitely the sides--the marinated bok choy in particular was incredible and honestly could have been a dish on its own. The kimchi pancake and galbitang were both solid choices and delicious. The only slight letdown was the soon du bu (we ordered the "danger" spice level). It was missing a bit of the bold flavor and kick I usually look for, which is the main reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Service was also great. Even though you order directly from the tablet, the staff was attentive, checking in on us regularly and always ready to help when needed. That said, everything else was enjoyable, and I'd absolutely come back to try more dishes. I love Korean food so I was excited for this place to join our neighborhood. Beautifully decorated and very clean. Service was outstanding! Friendly and quick from beginning to end. We sat in the center tables which are right below the vents so my mom and I were freezing. I love the cold but it was too cold for even me. The food was okay. We ordered beef bolgolgi. The flavor was okay but it was very dry. I'm used to beef bolgolgi being juicy. I wasn't so happy with the seafood pancakes. I couldn't tell if there was any seafood in it. It was packed with green onions. I had two slices and I only tasted two little calimari pieces and the inside was undercooked (little doughy). Kimchee sides were all fresh and delicious! To be fair though...the place had about 7 other table guests and everyone around us seemed to be enjoying their food and looked comfortable. We were the only ones seated in the middle tables so if you visit I would shoot for the tables against the walls. It may not be as cold. My inlaws are Korean and love their home cooked meals so maybe I'm just comparing to what I'm used to eating.
