Had a lot of firsts this weekend, and Tank's Pizza went crazy. First time in San Antonio, catching up with friends, meeting new people, and soaking in all the good vibes.I don't even like cheese sticks like that, but I'd order theirs again in a heartbeat. After Sunday Fundaynthe calzone was exactly what I needed, hot, filling, and worth every bite. Good music, good food, good hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere from start to finish. Texas doesn't owe me a thing, but Tank's definitely gave me an experience worth remembering. read more

BLUF: Fantastic stone-baked pizza and wings, opportunity to support a local, small, black, veteran, family owned business. My experience at Tank's Pizza was fantastic. The family atmosphere is apparent as soon as you walk in, and the staff was primarily comprised of family members. Above all, this is a great pizzeria, the food and service speak for themselves, but I always love the chance to support a local business, and the opportunity to support this pizzeria is enhanced by it also being a black owned business, a family owned business, and a veteran owned business. Pizza crust was airy and light, a signature of their stone-baked preparation method, ingredients were fresh and premium. The wings were another standout, expertly sauced, not overcooked or over breaded. This experience was from dining-in, haven't tried their delivery or pick-up, but will update the review when I do. Attended an event here. Parking was a bit challenging, Not very organized with almost every bench/table RSVP sign. We Stayed primarily in outside area of venue. Place is Not fancy at all. More like a back yard bbq type of vibe w/friends. Cocktails were priced appropriately. (jack & coke, beers). Bartenders were friendly. Tried a slice of friends pizza & it wasn't bad. Average taste. I cannot stress enough how nice it is when you're greeted by staff that are genuinely appreciative to have your business. That's how it was for us. Door opened for us and we were welcomed and seated immediately. Service 10/10 the whole visit I'm a very picky pizza person and I thoroughly enjoyed the pizza here. The crust and quality of the toppings were spot on. The vibe of the place is definitely one of what could be a "hangout" spot to have some good pizza/wings, a cold beer and just chill. Black owned pizza restaurant located on the east side of San Antonio. Great seating located inside and outside for patrons to enjoy the meal. They have a nice open bar to order drinks. Food comes out on time, fresh and hot. Great music and vibes playing in the background. Definitely can watch all the different sports. They have TVs located inside and outside. We ordered a medium pepperoni pizza, which was absolutely amazing. The pizza was very yummy and tasty. The only downside was that it wasn't as crunchy as I would have liked, but the flavor made up for it. We also had a side of buffalo wings. They only offer bone-in wings, which I thought were very good. Overall, I was really pleased with the meal and would definitely recommend Tank's Pizza for its delicious food Service wasn't the best but it wasn't bad. Locally owned and supports our military and veterans... Lovely! Especially knowing the background - The location of the establishment is not the best nor would it attract your attention to stop. It's on the corner of a busy street and the outside looks questionable. THOUGH, don't be fooled by its appearance. The moment you walk in, you are greeted. Immediately after sitting, the server came to get our beverage order. The owner's wife came to take our order. She was courteous and professional. Our order didn't take long. Came here on a Friday night after coming from Elsewhere and was heading back home for the night. This place was located right near our air bnb, so we gave it a shot. It's very much a neighborhood pizza spot.... so no frills. There were a few people seated and seemed to be celebrating a birthday. We ordered a large pizza, half cheese, half pepperoni, small fries and a full Cajon wings. The gentleman behind the register was super pilot, friendly, outgoing and courteous. Due to someone there asking for a picture, I can assume he is the owner. Our food took 15 minutes to come our and we headed home to eat. Food- nothing really special to mention. When we got the large box, it looked like a medium.sized box. When we ooened the pizza box, the slices were cut small. The pizza crust was soft and the taste was okay. I'm not from the area and used to pizza in NY and NJ so I dint know how Texas pizza compares. But from the pizza I've had, it was average. Fries were okay and not crispy. This establishment has a really cool vibe. As the only black owned pizza shop in San Antonio (so says their brochure) it feels like it serves as a community hub for the locals, with comedy shows put on what seems like every week. The service was casual but the employees were friendly and attentive. I got a medium pepperoni and mushroom (I wanted some leftovers) and my partner got a personal cheese which was actually a really good portion. Crust was crisp yet chewy and the cheese blend worked really well. Would recommend a visit on one of the nights with a show. read more

I typically don't leave a review, but this needs it. I ordered a cheese pizza with pepperoni along with mozzarella sticks. I showed up and the parking was insane as I was unaware there was a full bar and outside area. When I walked in, it was super busy. I waited in line to be attended, I was told pizza wasn't ready. I got a text saying my order was ready so I went back to the counter. The girl was attending someone else when she was done I thought she would ask how she could help, but didn't. She kept walking so I flagged her and asked about my order. She said it wasn't ready despite the text I received. Shortly after that she called my name cause the order was finally ready. I drove home, got there and opened the box and the pizza looked decent. I finally take a bite and the cheese tasted old. I took my mozzarella stick and dipped to marinara sauce and the sauce tasted old as well. This was my second time trying it and was not impressed. Placing an order online has been pretty bad most of the time. It been so bad I show up later than the expected time and still had to wait. This has happened a couple of times. If you can't do online orders correctly and within the time frame you say. Then dont offer it. Incompetence is the frustrating part here. Then asking for a tip before you have done anything. Really? I've had Tanks several times over the years and each time the food has been great. The calzones are my favorite. We usually grab a personal one that includes up to 4 toppings and a marinara dipping sauce. It's shareable unless you have a massive appetite. I haven't been inside in a while, but caught a glimpse when I grabbed my order. It looks like they had renovations and the inside looks cute! Went out and tried this place today after reading all the great reviews. Got there close to 4pm. Pretty empty. Only one other table was occupied when we arrived. One guy working behind the counter and he advised us to sit anywhere. Gotta say if it was night I probably would not have stayed cause the area is sketch, but during the day it was fairly ok. The inside was very clean. As far as the food, there was a variety of orders at our table. My youngest son had the cheese pizza, my teenager had a medium maxed out meat pizza, I had a calzone with 4 toppings and my son's mother had the chicken Alfredo. My young son was not in love with the cheese pizza. My teenager though did enjoy the meat pizza. I was told the chicken Alfredo was good but the chicken tasted like it was frozen and microwaved and not cooked to order. For me, the calzone lacked toppings. I had beef, ham, black olives and mushrooms. Both ends had extremely minimal toppings and were mainly bread and cheese. The middle had minimal ham and beef and more black olives than anything. Not well distributed or proportioned. But it was cooked perfectly. Such a shame. Oh I also ordered a few Cajun wings to try them. They were very dry. Just about fried too hard. The flavor was ok. Lots of seasoning. All in all, glad I got to try them. I probably would not go back. Just enough was off with most dishes where it's like I'll just go somewhere that makes it how I know we would like. It's a bit far for me to drive and not have been wowed. Wow! What a fantastic gem of a pizza joint in SA's east side in between Digowity Hill and Ft Sam Houston. A friendly staff and nice and casual atmosphere are perfect for enjoyjng the stone baked pizzas and wings in an easy going setting. The Works pizza was so good and included onions, olives, and bell peppers! It's no wonder they're expanding to the 1604 and 281(?) Area.
