I feel like Tanner's have gone downhill over the past few years. There were only a handful of people there for lunch. I sat at the bar and ordered a beer that I order quite a lot, not sure if it was the beer the lines or the glass. Something just tasted a bit off. It was build you own burger special so I ordered a burger with standard lettuce, tomato and onions, plus added Bacon, pepper jack cheese, mayo, mustard and Ketchup. When my burger came out it was bread, meat and pepper jack cheese. I have to ask for everything else again at the bar, never did get the lettuce, tomato or onions. read more

Stick with classic bar food and you'll love this place. The menu here is larger than most sports bars, but their appetizers, chicken lips (tenders), and burgers are always good options. I wanted to try something a little different this time so I got the Asian Seared Salmon Salad and was pleasantly surprised. The fish was cooked well and the meal was exactly what I was hoping for. Ordered take out tonight. should have looked in boxes before leaving the restaurant. My Route 66 burger had what looked like 2 separate 1/2 burgers instead of 2 patties. Called to talk to the manager. She explained that it's made as a smash burger and that's the way they look. Weird because it looks nothing like the menu picture and it says nothing about it being a smash burger... Have not had Tanners for years. it's probably going to be a few more years now. Didn't snap a pic but I got the breakfast of champions booga with some fries, tots, and cottage cheese, also a queso app. Waiter was very good and helpful. Believe me when I say that this is the best cottage cheese I've ever had. We asked the waiter and she said that it's brought in by US foods and we probably can't buy it so that broke my heart. Fries, tots, and queso were fire. The booga was decent, patty kinda dry but love what they did with the toppings (hash brown, fried egg, bacon, spicy mayo). I forgot to get our servers name but shout out to him, he was awesome! We were there 5/11 around 2:30 in case any management is reading this so he can get his compliment. We wanted somewhere close to eat after celebrating our son's birthday at the trampoline park next door, we decided on this despite the not so good reviews. We didn't have the experience some wrote about. We are a family of six, walked right in, sat ourselves and were greeted within a minute by our server. He was super knowledgeable about the drink menu, he got our drinks out really fast, then our food came out really fast. He was on top of it for refills, never had to even ask for a refill. Then he hooked up my son with a little birthday brownie. Food was good, remember it's a bar in a strip mall, not a fancy restaurant. We got the nachos, chicken "lips" (tenders), kids sliders, Mac n cheese, corn dogs and a large pretzel. Nachos were good and had lots of toppings, kids ate all their food, husband liked his chicken. This location has to be closing and if not, management is running it down. This is my favorite location but we went in here last week and were told bottle beer only because the tap system was down. We went in last night and guess what, the tap system is down. So a guy at our table orders a bottle of Heineken and the waitress comes back "we only have Heineken lite". What? You have no tap beer and you don't have one single Heineken? Then he orders some flavor of Boulevard and when it comes time for a 2nd beer, he is told "that was the only bottle of that Boulevard". WTH!!! If you're not going to have tap beer, you better have more than Bud, Bud light etc. Lastly, I think it's funny there is no warning when you walk in that the tap system is down, I guess they figure once they've got you in your seat, you'll buy a bottle either way. read more

I concur with many of the recent reviews. They have become more of a "woke" locals bar/roadhouse than a family dining establishment. Management has lost control of the bar staff and it makes it hard for the servers. Dirty tables everywhere, plastic service because nothing is cleaned, dirty wine glasses... It is just a mess. Couple that with foul mouthed belligerent bar "regulars" who are backed up by bar staff that doesn't care about the restaurant clients or their service staff and you can see why the reviews are where they are. I hope this is isolated to this location as Tanners is a KC tradition and it is sad to see them rolling downhill. Get better please! read more

Not sure if this location has changed hands but this last time the food was sub par for even bar food. Service has always been kinda slow but it wasn't even busy and it was extra slow on the day I went. Bartenders seem more interested in their phones and talking with one another behind the bar. I won't be back, it's a shame it's just bar food but even that wasn't like it used to be. There are too many other options close by with better quality all around. What a bummer. read more

Recently dinned on a Thursday for the steak special. Of the 5 steaks ordered none were prepared as ordered. We have not had this problem at other Tanner locations. You come to Tanner's to watch a game. In that area, it's hard to beat. This location has dozens of huge, new TVs playing all the regional games with a great picture. The sound will always be on KU or KC; if you've come here to listen to Iowa, Oklahoma or Nebraska teams, you'll probably be disappointed. However, I bet the game will be visible. Unfortunately, that's really where the high notes for Tanner's end. The food is hastily prepared, but not fast or cheap enough to forgive. The service is OK, but scattered and overwhelmed - even when the dining room is 1/2 full. Prices are too high across the board to be considered a real value, even though portion sizes are typically generous. If your TV is broken, A/C is on the fritz or water is shut off and need to find a large space to cheer on your favorite team Tanner's will fit the bill. Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere. read more

Well, I've been going to Tanners around the KC area for almost 20 years. Tonight, Friday night, was the first time I've walked out on them. There wasn't a wait at 7pm, and the sign at the hostess stand says "seat yourself". So we sat at the high tables in the middle of the restaurant at the guard rail next to the bar. The third time someone else came in after us, sat down, and was helped was enough for my wife and I while we just sat ungreeted at our table. I watched the staff standing around, looking at their cell phones and never even making eye contact. It was enough for me to tell my wife that the $10.50 cheese balls are just not worth it. We went across the parking lot to Sunset Grill, were greeted by a hostess, immediately sat down and our drink order taken within minutes. Normally, I let things like this slide off my back. I guess I got Tanners on a bad night, but it was enough that I'm writing this because I just felt like they didn't care to keep my business. read more

We got last call at 1050 (because the bartender had to much to do) meanwhile 5 mins later she is behind the bar taking multiple shot. The meatloaf was delicious, with a very generous serving size. The gravy and greeen beans were tasty, and the mashed potatoes were okay. Had a great experience hosting our daughters 21st birthday here! The manager, Matt, was prompt with information on advance ordering of party platters and answering questions about the evening. The party platters were delicious and generous for the price. The grilled sausage and cheese platter was a hit as well as the giant wing platter and the turkey sliders were fresh and well presented. They had a covered table ready for the food and cake and our Server was very attentive with every new guest that appeared in the room for their drink order.
