This place is bomb. I first went to their Houston location about a year and a half ago and immediately fell in love. To the point where I went twice in the span of a few days. I'd say the claim to fame here is an amazing mix of textures and flavors all together. You get savory, little sweetness, some crunch, and it's kind of juicy. It's got it all. That being said, the Plano location is new and they still have some kinks to work out. I tried coming on a Saturday morning and they stopped taking orders because they weren't able to keep up. Good news for their business, bad news for my stomach. I left defeated. I came back on a weekday and it wasn't a problem. But I now see why they weren't able to keep up. Service is pretty slow. I'd like to think they are lovingly putting time and care into my rice roll and pancake, but still this place has Asia street vendor vibes and those are quick. I'm sure it's just a consequence of being new and it will improve in time. I ordered an eel rice roll and their sausage crepe/pancake. Textures are on point. The crepe is a layer of egg wrapped with another crispy layer inside. I am slightly disappointed that their "sausage" is just a hot dog. You are really just paying for the egg crepe layer and the crispy layer. Slightly overpriced IMO. Eel rice roll is great, one of my favorites from the Houston location. You have eel, egg, pork floss and more. The mix of sauce, crispness, egg, everything works together like a flavor and texture explosion. Only critique, which I think is also due to being new, the beginning and end of the roll had too much rice. This protects the filling but also means your first (and last) bite are almost entirely rice instead of the burst of flavor you're looking for. Overall a great spot for breakfast / brunch. But be ready to wait or even have to find somewhere else to eat if they're too busy. Either way, I'm glad they're here and will be going back over and over again. read more

Pretty good, huge. 1 serving, a lot of rice. I got the Tao roll, it was good, love the pork sung inside. Good flavoring, nice mayo and lettuces combination. Only regret is the sticky rice wasn't stick enough, pretty dry the day we got it and the rolls fell apart quick. Got there at 9am on a Saturday and there was already 4 people waiting for their orders. On top of the walk-in they had several call in/mobile orders. It took over 30 minutes to get our food so plan accordingly or call your order in since there's limited seating. There were four small tables and some chairs to sit and wait/eat. I personally think the rice rolls are better than the egg pancakes. Rice rolls had more flavor and even has some crispy stuff inside that was great and filling. The egg pancake was super crispy but it didn't have much wow factor for me. Since they were busy our fried bread sticks were so fresh they were drenched in oil.. 3 stars for the poor service. The price point is way too steep for what you get. I'd pay maybe half the usual price. Tried many different rolls. Tuna roll, Taiwan roll, etc. I'd say the rice itself is quite QQ which is a plus. However the ingredients inside can be better. For example, need a lot more of the radish inside the Taiwan roll. I'd say, more radish and put chinese donut as well. Can either do without the chinese sausage or have the chinese sausage tastier and not bland and cold. Pork floss is fine I suppose. Also for a good rice roll, the seaweed around is unnecessary. But yeah like I said, $6.75 for a roll? I'd pay up to half that at best. Time to do away with the credit card limit of $10.00 too. I lovvvvve. Closest thing to a "street style" vendor breakfast that reminds me of Taiwan! Their "fan tuan" (or rice rolls) are fun, but I LOVE their build your own double egg pancakes. :) I'm a huge fan of "cong zhua bing," which is a kind of scallion pancake breakfast item sold from street vendors in Taiwan. Super easy and delicious hot breakfast item that you typically order to-go. This isn't totally it, but it's similar, so I'll take it lol. I typically order mine with pork floss added and all the fixings. It is soooo yummy. I don't even know how to begin to describe it lol. If you haven't had it, def try one! Separately, if you're into rice rolls, def try upgrading your rice to purple rice!! It sells out, so I recommend swinging by earlier than later to ensure you get some. :) It makes the roll a little denser and has a more moist/chewier texture than the regular rice. read more

Tasty traditional Taiwanese rice roll. Super slow turtle-like speed. Always takes almost an hour to make 4 roll of rice rolls. ( sorry turtles...) Even I try to make advance order on Uber eats, show up on time to pickup, the order wasn't even made. If they want to stay in business, they need to change the operation model or hire more staff to prep in the kitchen. No apologies was offered for even delay the order. Fast, cheap, delicious -- what more can I say. It's a small shop part of a huge Asian strip mall area with limited seating. The rice rolls are the best, you can't go wrong with any of them. They come out within 5 minutes of ordering and they're easy to take on the go. I took my friend when she visited DFW and she asked to go again the next day. Few of my favorite Asian breakfast spots when I used to live in Cali was JJ Bakery, Four Sea, Yi Mei and Luxsweet, I have been trying to find something similar here in DFW where I can enjoy a cup of warm sweet soy milk and a flavor stuffed rice roll, after few recommendations from friends I came across to this little joint in Plano call the Tao Rice Roll, it is exactly what I have been looking for! It came with so many different options of rice roll and sweet soy milk, I immediately felt in love and actually came back for second round the next day, i have tried their Tao rice roll and the sea eel roll, both are sooo good and i had to order some more to go to share. Highly recommend this if you are looking for comfort breakfast nearby Plano, and definitely you don't want to miss this if you haven't tried anything like this yet. They have different FanTuan (stuffed stick rice rolls) to choose from and you can also customize what you want in your jianbing. Foods taste good, service is not good, actually no services since three staffs were extremely exhausted to full fill orders. We waited for 30 minutes for the soya milk, youtiao and pancake; and another 20 minutes for the rice roll! Tried this when visiting my friend in Dallas. Solid fan tuan spot - we ordered 2 but was told there was a buy two get one free roll, so got another one on the house. There are many options but can't go wrong with what you choose. We got the eel (my fave!), egg bomb, and blue tuna rolls. These are such big rolls, good to grab a couple of different ones to try and share within a small group. Our group thought it was a good balance of rice to filling. They have other items on their menu that also look enticing, like soups and pancake but we didn't get to try them this round. Seems to be a popular choice for locals! There is a bathroom in the back. Let me set the setting as to why I'm giving this a 5 star - TLDR: early Friday morning - 8:15am, no line, good food. At that hour, there weren't many people there. Quick to order, and the food was delicious. I got the Taiwan Roll and in terms of authenticity, I think it's pretty on par with the what I've had in Taiwan. Obviously I would love to be in Taiwan for a rice roll - but that's not happening soon. Anyways, still good to know that a place like this exists so when I'm itching for a fan-tuan 飯糰 or a bun-won (in taiwanese), I know that this place can help feed that appetite. Found a place that serves Taiwanese breakfast....not as traditional but they do serve Fan Tuan, a variety of them and they are pretty good. It is a new place so there are still some kinks to work it out but overall it is good since there is any other that comes close. I stumbled upon this place while looking for Matcha ice cream. I loved going to Mecca Matcha and was sad to discover they had closed, however, I am delighted to have found such a wonderful restaurant in its place. The staff greeted us and was very friendly. A man who I presume to be the owner showed us a menu and explained the ingredients to us. He told me that he has another locations one in Houston and one in New York if I recall correctly. After perusing the menu for a while, we finally decided to get the rice rolls, I chose the Kimchi version and my husband chose the traditional roll and later we ordered the pancake to spilt just because it looked so darn delicious. There were so many different rolls to choose from we had a hard time making up our minds as to which one to get. I also ordered a Red Date soy milk to wash it all down with. It wasn't long before the clerk informed me that my order was ready. When I first opened the wrapper I knew I was going to enjoy the roll, it smelled divine! When I bit into the roll I immediately fell in love with the flavors which were a mix of sweet and salty the best word that I can find is umami! Parts of the roll were chewy (glutinous rice) and crunchy/crispy (Chinese dough stick) with savory flavors. My roll had kimchi mixed into it since I ordered the kimchi version and it was very delicious; We both thoroughly enjoyed our rolls. Later we ordered the pancake and it was pretty good as well. The traditional pancake is a Chinese crepe made with two eggs, Chinese pickled veggies, lettuce, fritter, and pork. The flavors of the roll were delicious, however, I must say that I enjoyed the rice roll a lot more. I am not a major fan of eggs, but my husband thought the pancake was next best thing to white bread. I plan to get the vegetarian version on my next visit. Lastly, the soy milk was very delicious and I will order it again on my next visit as well. Overall our experience was a good one. To say this location has only been open for a week, the staff made no errors in our order and the food was hot and fresh. Everything I ordered was packaged in to-go paper, however, it you'd like to eat in there are a few tables for two along the wall to enjoy a quick bite. I was so happy when I found this place. No where else in DFW, at least to my knowledge, sells rice rolls (fan tuan), so I was excited to try it out. They have a lot of options so it can be hard to decide, but I recommend the Taiwan roll. Has everything you want in a rice roll, and the addition of the chinese sausage is perfect. I will say that the prices are a little bit pricey, just a heads up. I would also avoid coming on weekend mornings if possible because they were really busy. Definitely give this place a try though! It has been more than a year since our last review; we have continued to order to-go from Tao Rice Roll on and off. In most cases, after placing our orders online, we would show up for pick-up and still have to wait for a little more before the food would actually be ready. Not too bad though... That is until what happened these past two times - on 11/5, then on 11/24. On 11/5, via text and email, they confirmed they received my order at 12:19 and "estimated to be ready" time of 12:49. By the time 12:49 came around, I lined up behind four others, which turned out, were all waiting for to-gos. By the time I got to the front, the lady apologized and told me to wait for another 15 mins as they were running behind. No problem, I guess it is understandable with all the others also standing around. As I waited, what started to bother me was not knowing my food would take a total of 45 mins to be ready, but that while chatting with a lady (who was ahead of me in line), she told me she noticed that when new customers showed up (placing their order at the store), they would receive their food while a few of us continued to sit around and waited. Hence, by the time that "15 mins" became 20 mins, 25 mins... I finally stood up and told the cashier to just refund my order (as I have an appointment to go to and could not continue to wait without knowing how many more new estimated times I need to adjust to). I walked out at 1:17 without lunch. Three days later, I checked my credit card; no refund was made. I clicked dispute on my end. On 11/24, I tried a different method. Instead of ordering on their website, I wondered if they would respond quicker through UberEATS. Order went through by 9:45, ETA 10:50 (delivery location is 12 mins away). As I monitored via UberEATS, I started to be concerned when my driver's location was pending for 5+ mins at the Tao location (yes, the food was not ready at the designated time on his end); eventually UberEATS had to locate a second driver for the delivery. Food was received at 11:22. I am not writing to tell others to stop eating at Tao Rice Roll, as their food is still good. What I want is merely to give a heads up for the ones who may have a schedule to keep and cannot wait for close to an hour+ for their food. At least I have learned, unfortunately, unless I have my entire afternoon free or somehow have more patience, I cannot order from Tao Rice Roll. read more

Food is made fresh, so it takes a while. We saw a lot of people pick up orders so I think calling your order in is the best way to go. We tried a few of the rice rolls, egg pancake, and sticky rice. Wish the sticky rice had some sort of sauce on it to make it less dry. My favorite roll was the egg bomb - the Chinese sausage is sliced up in this one (whereas it's whole in the Taiwan one). My husband really liked his beef one (also sliced pieces). The sweet soy milk was very light, so I didn't feel bad giving it to the kids. The food is awesome, the service is fast and friendly, and they will accept call-in orders and have it ready when you get there. I'm not sure what happened to my first review, but here we go again... Growing up in Dallas, we used to have some pretty solid Taiwanese breakfast joints, each of which, sadly, ended up closing over the years... leaving no real good options. Tao Roll definitely should have come to town sooner, as the glutinous rice rolls and homemade soy milk (with none of the chemical preservative taste that other places have) are amazing! Our staples include the Eel roll (unagi lovers will go crazy for this, the sweet roll (awesome balance of savory pork floss, and sweet sesame powder), and the traditional roll. All come with a bit of marinated egg, crispy pieces of Chinese you tiao, and pork floss. You can choose between the default white glutinous sticky rice or purple rice for an extra $0.50, both with have a wonderful toothsome chew, without being overly cooked and soggy. We've also had their egg crepe/pancake that has a nice contrast between the thin chewy crepe skin and a nice crunchy interior. You can mix and match your fillings to your heart's content with additional toppings as options (for a price). Their cold sweet soy milk is refreshing and the perfect pairing to wash everything down. Just thinking about this place is making me crave it... and as of this review, just had it yesterday... maybe another trip is in order? read more

Ordered via Uber eats and was impressed! I got the Taiwan and Tao rice rolls, noodles, salty soy milk, sweet soy milk (warm), double eggs pancake, and fried bread sticks (Chinese donuts). My favorites were the Taiwan rice roll and soy milk with the fried donuts! The Taiwan rice roll is made of salted egg yolk, Taiwanese sausage, pork meat floss, crispy bits of meat, and pickled veggies all wrapped in sticky rice; it's pretty filling! The savory soy milk already had pieces of fried donuts in it but I ordered extra donuts to dip in lol. The warm sweet soy milk would be perfect for winter time and the noodles were perfect as a hot breakfast meal. The double eggs pancake was my least favorite - I didn't care for the hotdog and it got soggy, but it would probably be better if it was eaten right away.
