I love Taphouse. A great spot for "Tappy Hour" at the bar or casual dinner with a group. The beer selection is always amazing, the best variety in town. The food is consistent along with the service. This place is ok. The food was slightly above average, but it didn't stay down later. Not sure why it didn't agree with me, but that might not be their fault in any way. No one else got sick (I don't order any alcoholic drinks: just burger and salad and a brownie a la mode). What did turn us all off was being treated like children when we made the reservation and when we arrived to be seated. We were told they had "rules" we had to follow for the reservation, and then they condescending made us wait on a bench even though more than enough tables were ready (a whole room as practically vacant) until our very last (5th) person arrived because he was 5 min late and they have "rules" about every single person being physically present before they'll seat you, and if that person is more than 15 min late, you not only have to sit on the bench, but they will give away your table. So, if someone is stuck at work 15 min and texts you their order in advance so the rest of you can sit down and get started, well, nope! Too bad. You're treated like naughty children at the principal's office and then your table is given away. That was a huge turn off for us. We'd prefer to be treated like paying customers they're happy to have instead of like we are begging for something we aren't entitled to. But we were eventually seated. Prices were a little high. You're paying for the atmosphere. Would have loved that if we didn't get the aforementioned introductory treatment. But wait staff were very nice and brought everything in good time and met all our needs very quickly. read more

We came here as a group of 8. A few of us ordered the burgers. The burgers and buns are big BUT the burgers weren't cooked to what I ordered. I ordered Medium Well and the burger came out extremely well done and dry. Not one bit of pink at all. The beer was good (Cold, crisp and foam on top; which means they maintain their system well). The staff was nice. The pizza was average for a bar and grille; can't expect much out of a pizza at this type of place. Also, the pizza is overpriced; $13-$15 for a flat, frozen tasting pizza. Where should I start. There was a dead fly on our menu....I should have left right after seeing it. It took over 40 minutes to get our food when there was no one at all in the restaurant. The place is outstanding! Never have we had a bad meal or bad experience. The bartenders are amazing! Christine, Steve, Chris and the others are always attentive (even when the place is packed). They remember you, know what you like and don't like, and when they have a moment, will spend some time chatting. Always a fantastic craft beer rotation, with some locals from Czig, Manskirt and Jersey Girl. The food is top notch, whether it's a simple appetizer at the bar, or full meal, always great. The pork chop is one of the best around and on par with the chop over at the Redwoods in Chester. Bar pies are outstanding also! The chef always accommodates modifications. I've ordered the Mediterranean Veggie Wrap, which is great by itself, but I ask to add grilled chicken. Awesome! The Tap House is one of our "go to" places. read more

I went here for Valentine's Day dinner last night and was very happy with our choice. The atmosphere was perfect and each staff member made it that much better. The host was very friendly and accommodated us when we wanted to move to a different table. Our server, Will, was extremely professional and attentive in making sure it was a great dining experience for us. He was very knowledgeable of the menus and helpful in us making our choice of drinks and food. Even little things like replacing our silverware after our appetizer did not go unnoticed!! I want to like this place. Actually, I want to love this place. After transforming the space from a Bensi's, this restaurant could be poised to be the best refined casual dining option in the area, offering a sophisticated and cozy spot to enjoy. But after that? The restaurant needs to be revamped. Menu: I've eaten here a few times, and the food is always...so-so. The burger is nothing to write home about, except maybe their novelty branded bun. I've had the braised beef tacos, which, though different, were greasy. And last night, I ordered a turkey burger. While I know that turkey burgers are always well done, what I received was a charred puck of tough flavorless meat. I ate it, refusing to complain or send it back (having worked in restaurants and the service industry, I don't like to do this unless there is some really egregious issue), understanding why I could barely see the turkey burger puck: they had opted to correct the atrocity with a massive amount of guacamole and chipotle mayo. The sweet potato fries, at least were good. Not only that, but I find that the menu is severely lacking-- both in options as well as creativity. I don't know that they have a single signature dish, and even though they aim to be an refined casual restaurant, they only offer one steak option, a flat iron steak. Bar: The bar does offer a a great variety of wines, beers, and spirits. I never understand why a bar wouldn't stock ginger beer--especially now with Moscow Mules being so popular right now. So i'm happy to order my mule at the Taphouse. But the variety is useless because.... Service: This is what makes me think I need to stop giving the Taphouse any more of my business. To be fair, I've only ever sat at the bar, so I'm not sure what the waitstaff is like. But I can tell you that the bar staff is unattentive and unhelpful. Last night, I ordered my drink with a water, and drank both. Not once was I asked if I'd like another drink--either water or alcohol. I was completely ignored until I had to flag someone down for my check. Yes, the bar is large, but it was nowhere near full, and the bartenders either couldn't handle the situation... or were just too lazy to provide good customer service. If the service were good, I would be able to look past the poor/mediocre food. At least then, I could consider it for a regular drinking spot, but I cannot stand being ignored. I don't expect to be checked on every few minutes, but please notice when my drink is empty, and offer my another. If you want me gone, fine-- bring me my check then, so that I don't have to flag you down. If the management goes over reviews, I hope they see this and consider a few things: The menu needs to be upped a bit. Even if it's not the main menu, make sure that the chef is constantly coming up with fresh, flavorful and seasonal specials for guests to consider and enjoy. You'll find that your dining room, which I've only ever seen empty, will fill up and that people look forward to the different options on a regular basis. Retrain and monitor the service at the bar. Bar staff is cheap labor, and your bartenders can't handle a slow Wednesday night. So overstaff until they prove themselves capable of handling themselves on the bar and providing appropriate customer service. Until then, I guess I'll be drinking at Bea McNally's, where at least I know I'll get good service on Sundays. read more

I would love to review the food from my visit today, but that would require me actually getting to order. This is not my first time here, I'm actually an avid Tap House visiter. But this review is based on my visit today, which will be my last. I'll cut to the chase. Walked in with my husband and our two sons. We were greeted and immediately sat outside. Wish I could say the rest of my time here followed suit. Saying I became irritated after about 10 minutes of sitting without a single waiter or waitress coming to ask for drinks, is an understatement. Three, yup I said THREE separate waiters/waitress walked passed our table. So to say they didn't know we were sitting there would be a complete lie. There was only one other table outside, to which three separate waiters/waitress approached at least three times. The restaurant itself, inside, was not particularly busy either. So I'm curious as to why after 17 minutes (no exaggeration, I timed it) I had to get up myself and go inside and ask if there was going to be someone coming to our table. Obviously I wasn't very nice about it, considering I walked in starving 20 minutes prior and didn't even have so much as a cup of water or ice to munch on (insert crying emoji here). Anyway, the waitress then said "omg I'm so sorry" but then I sat down and continued to wait some more. Really tap house? Really?? If a customer comes in clearly upset that no one has come to the table, I would think the employee should immediately go out and take orders. But nope, not this employee of the month. I proceeded to wait another 3 minutes as she stood by the door chit chatting with the hostess that sat us. So I did what was best for us both and I got up and walked out. I ended up at Fujiyama, so thank you Tap House for being the reason I ended up at a better place with immaculate customer service. Disclaimer, I manage a bar/restaurant in Hoboken. So when I say you have horrific employees, I thoroughly mean it. I would never have wait staff that is so oblivious. If I could give you zero stars, like you gave me zero service. I absolutely would. We have been going to the tap house for a while now, because we really like the food. However, the service is EXTREMELY lacking. My sister and I are vegetarian and we ordered an appetizer that didn't mention meat in the description. When we realized it had meat we simply asked our server Andrew to send it back and asked if we could order something else. Andrew then passive aggressively ridiculed us for not knowing there would be meat in the dish, and continued making condescending remarks for the rest of our meal. To top it off, when he handed us our bill, he acted like HE was doing us a favor by not charging us for the appetizer we had sent back. Like of course we're not going to pay for something we didn't eat!! Anyways it was an overall unpleasant experience. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for years, this is the perfect example of how NOT to handle customers! They really need to work on training their staff to give more professional service. read more

Soooooooooooo disappointing! This place looks awesome-but the food just didn't match! We started with the fried deviled eggs and there was a weird Indian tasting spice added which just made it super weird (fried deviled eggs were just weird anyway, I don't really know what we were thinking on that one). My husband ordered the turkey burger and I got the fish and chips. Both dishes are classics and we were playing it safe...both came out gross. My husband's turkey burger was sooooo dry and it kinda looked like dog food . My fish and chips were soggy and I wasn't able to cut through the batter with a knife because it was just too rubbery. The only thing good about our meal were the French fries and side salad. Also, they give you a large glass bottle of water...but no ice...so everyone in the restaurant was drinking room temperature water. I like the idea of leaving water at the table, but give me ice. Plus, I was really disappointed with their beer selection- for a taproom they had less craft beer than my local pub. read more

Thought fourth time would be a charm, boy was I wrong. Showed up at 6:30 for my reservation and the booth I had requested and they had confirmed was no where to be had. We ordered drinks and proceeded to sit at a high top table located in the bar area. We were quickly and sternly told we could not sit there for it was for people eating dinner. I explained I could not eat my dinner since my table was no where being ready and I was not willing to continue to stand for another 1/2 hour. Management is completely oblivious to their tone and condescending attitude. Food was better this time and quickly served. By the way, they allow people to smoke vapor in their bar area. Great, fresh food! The staff was super friendly. Lots of TV's modern decor. A large selection of beer and you can taste all the strange ones before ordering a glass! I have visited here several times and have never been disappointed in the quality of food or service received here! Multiple dining rooms, outdoor patio and ample bar space. Anytime we've been here we have sat at the bar because we just love the atmosphere. The beer selection is always very good but their wine is pretty good too for a place known for their beer. The food is what keeps me coming back. The variances of calamari is always great. If you see the Mediterranean calamari on special give it a go. This place sucks! Gave our name 2 hours ago. They sat people that came in after us before us. We ordered food at the bar. People next to us ordered five minutes after us and they got served and we were still waiting. Asked for my credit card back told the bar tender to cancel our order. Bartendein a far cry from the quality the place offers My wife and I have been here about four or five times and the food coming out of the kitchen has been surprisingly creative and very good. This week however we decided to go and sit at the bar for dinner. The bartending staff definitelly needs improvement. With the quality they offer on tap, along with a not very modest selection of wines, you would think the tending to people like us - and there were a few couples enjoying the always nice atmosphere - would be up to expectations. But it wasn't unfortunately. We had this very nice tall blonde bar tender with a very nice smile, coming to us and just "throwing" a couple of menus simply stating "these are our beers and these are our drinks". I had to jump quickly before she turned her back to us and ask for the dinner menus. Well she brought the menus to us and we ordered, but she unexplainably neglected to tell my wife the broccoli rabe was loaded with jalapeno peppers and was extremely hot and spicy. My wife has a severe reaction to very hot food, but we endured it even though we had top ask another bartender for a glass of water for her, and his reaction was " oh, she didn't tell you"?...Anyway this would not have been worse, if this lady had noticed I was on my last drop of my Malbec and did not bother to ask if I wanted another one, instead, as she was chatting with a couple of other patrons and two feet away from me, I asked her. To my surprise, she never brought me the second glass, and I finished my meal, (I would gladly have payed another $8 for a another glass of Dona Paula), but I didn't. Left a tip according to the neglect we were dedicated, which I never do. I was in the food and beverage industry for many years, my wife and I are what one can call average foodies, but we don't look at price tags when we go out. WE go for the experience, and try to get the mmost out of it, regardless of whatr the tab isd going to end up being. What hapened to us, is absolutely nexcusable, specially with a place with such potential, and an what we consider above average kitchen. Stopped in for their french onion soup today. The soup is delicious. It's tasty and not overly salty. There was a good amount of broth and wasn't outweighed by onions or bread. They top it with a heaping pile of fried onions-really a nice presentation as well as being a well made soup. The server (I ate at the bar) was friendly, attentive and pleasant. Great addition to the neighborhood. For starter, we ordered the Crispy shrimp and fried deviled eggs. the shrimp was spicy for my taste but the husband loved it, however we were both disappointed with the fried deviled eggs. Would love it if they changed it to a fried pickles. As a previous poster said, my husband ordered the fish & chips and it was very good. I ordered the skirt steak and I have to be honest I was expecting to be just a bit disappointed bc I'm spoiled by Cuban style Churrasco. I was pleasantly surprised, it was so good.
