Are all tapioca expresses the same as each other? I think so. It taste about the same to me as the one on regents.. the one on gilman.. etc. I always order tapioca milk tea as a baseline. I've always heard of how Tapioca Express was the iSH but never had the chance to check it out because convoy is wayy too far from me...when i finally had the chance to get some yummy ass boba, i was quick to get in line. Although I've been here multiple times, I never wrote a review because I was never really here nor there about this place. I came back recently the other night with a friend who comes here much more regularly, and we ended up getting food in addition to drinks, which is all I usually get, and let me just say, I'm sort of hooked on their wings now. They're definitely Asian spiced wings, but they have great flavor, are served piping hot, and come in a little paper bag that gives me the feel of having gone out for street food and fills me with nostalgia. We also ordered the pan fried dumplings which were good-- not great, but good enough to inhale after getting a nice massage and building up an appetite. I got the peach milk tea this time, which I was kind of thinking could go either really great or be really bad... I don't recommend the peach flavor although I usually love peach pretty much anything. The melon flavors and the strawberry snow bubble are my normal go-to's and have never failed me. But you've gotta venture out of your comfort zone to make new discoveries! Anyway, I am happy to have learned about the wings here, and it was a fun night-- they're very casual about the time you spend here, so we got to play cards here all night and had a blast. There's a Tapioca Express everywhere. A large variety of milk teas, coffees, smoothies, and food. I generally get the standard milk tea with boba. Tastes fine to me. They serve it in one of those cups sealed with plastic which are really convenient for on the run trips...but careful to pierce the straw in correctly (punch it in fast) or else you have a big gaping hole on top that is bound to spill. Definitely not the best HK milk tea I've had. Ambience of the whole place is cool though, seems like a place I'd like to just "hang out." Like that they have a variety of drinks as well as some food selections too. Tapioca Express has a huge selection of boba drinks: milk tea, iced tea and snow bubble. I've been here so many times that I could've probably tried all their flavors, but I tend to stick to my favorite: mango (or honey) green tea. They also have different snacks and I usually get the spicy crispy chicken with extra basil. This location has a big sitting area and it's prefect to hangout with friends. this place is almost always busy. i hear the food is good here, but have yet to try it. i usually go here after a meal, so food is out of the question. the boba drinks here are good, though it varies depending on who is working. the strawberry coconut snow bubble boba, thai tea snow bubble boba, and taro snow bubble boba are yummy. their other teas are good as well. it's a bit of a loud atmosphere -- with the blenders going all the time, and the loud music and loud crowd. the seating is nice and ample, the outdoor seating is usually packed with smokers (eeew), and the parking is terrible! despite all that i am a fan because they have the better flavors of boba drinks compared to SOME other places. read more

To me, this place never had the best boba drinks. There were always other places that had better flavor. But this is the "cool" place to hang and has been for a while now. It used to be Green Tea House which is now BAB's, I think. But when that place closed TapEx became the new hangout spot. Parking is always tough here at night. Unless you come in the afternoon expect to play Tetris with your car in the parking lot. They have a very large selection of drinks here which is cool. But I've never had anything that was really, really good. They're all just ok. Customer service here is lacking as well. They aren't very friendly at all. In my opinion, there are other places within 5 minutes of here to get better tasting drinks with less attitude, no parking hassles, and smaller crowds. read more

I guess I was spoiled from the get go having a Tea Station as my go to boba spot in Mira Mesa, but I started going to TapEx in college when it was the closest boba spot to SDSU. I wasn't that adventurous back then, just got a lot of fruity teas with yummy jellies, and occasionally some spicy popcorn chicken. At the Convoy location, my friends convinced me to order the crispy chicken combo that comes with steamed vegetables, fried egg, and rice with some kind of ground meat on top. It's so yummy! The meal also comes with a free green tea and that's when I discovered I love their sweetened iced green tea! Overall, convenient and cheap. read more

I'm from the SF bay area, and this is the nicest looking Tapex I've seen. Cute modern decor, and clean. So many more food choices than the ones I've been too. Their boba drinks taste about the same as the the other spots, except less exotic options in terms of their drink menu. Their food menu however is yum! I love the fact that they have crab wontons, and curry chicken over rice, what! Both were suprisingly good. Oh, and the chinese donuts are like a heart attack in a styrofoam box just waiting to happen..but oh so worth it. The workers are actually friendly AND speak English, and don't get mad if YOU don't speak Chinese. read more

This is the best Tap Ex that I've been to. I usually prefer the non-chain tapioca joints as they tend to have fresh fruit smoothies but this Tap Ex was pretty darn good. Their tapioca balls had a nice, chewy consistency and they actually have Matcha Milk Tea on their menu! That was the first time I've seen it so I had to try it. OH EM GEE! It was like drinking melted green tea ice cream with tapioca...*drools* If I can't get a smoothie tapioca, then this is definitely the next best thing. read more

The last time I decided to taste their fried chicken and boy let me tell you guys its good, but I didnt know it was so spicy. I got the mild chicken and my tongue was burning. I'm obsessed with their calamari plate... why do I feel like their calamari is one of the the best in town? Maybe because its always consistently lightly battered, perfectly seasoned (I get mines with zero spice level), and just so affordable for the portion you get. Plate comes with white jasmine rice w/ the bomb ground beef topping, over hard fried (steamed?) egg, and really cheap-o side of veggies but hey, its like $7 for the meal?! I love me some boba but there is nothing express about Tapioca Express. It's such a pain to find parking here. The service is hit or miss, it all depends on who's working the counter and if they have a good flow going on. We went here last night and it was pretty packed with high school and college students as well as you're occasional tourists who have no consideration of personal space. The snow bubbles use to be more flavorful but are starting to taste watered down. I'll come here if I have to but I prefer other establishments. read more

Oh TapEx. While I do enjoy their spicy chicken and snacks, I can't say the same for their drinks! The boba is just OK. I usually prefer Green Tea House a few doors down for the drinks and then coming to TapEx for the snacks! And YES, I walk in with a Green Tea House cup.
