My family and I went to this restaurant in the evening around 6 o'clock and the food was mediocre, the tortillas soggy, and the restaurant floor and tables were filthy. When my husband went to ask them for a fork the cashier did not like to be bothered. There are no public restrooms there or at the stores next to it. One guy, had in a mask and gloves, proceeds to make the tacos and passes them to the cashier. Thus is where it starts to get bad. 1. The cashier, who handles money, reaches in and grabs a few limes and throws them in a bag with the foil wrapped tacos. WITH HIS BARE HANDS. NASTY AF. 2. I ask him for some pickled carrots. He grabs a couple pieces of foil and pats them to create a bowl. AGAIN, WITH HIS BARE HANDS and puts them in using the tongs. 3. I asked for some salsa, he asks me green or red. I say both. He gives me 1 of each. For 15 tacos and 1 burrito. When I point that out he begrudgingly gives me 1 more of each. I ask him for a couple more, he points to a sign that states $.40 for additional salsa. The Al Pastor was good, but the Carnitas/Lengua/Chorizo were all under par. They have pickled carrots that are self serve, so that's great. The Lengua had this weird aftertaste and it was very unsatisfying. HORCHATA // Very strong taste of cinnamon. It was refreshing, but way too sweet compared to other places. I'll begin by saying that these are the worst tacos I've eaten during my 22 years of breathing air on Earth. Let me break down this review with the least amount of bias because the rest of the reviewers have NEVER tried great tacos and think this is the best there is. Right of the bat, I see that the meat and tortillas are stored and heated in the worst manner possible: drop-in food warmers. The meat on top doesn't heat up as well as the bottom so by the time you get your order, your tacos are colder than a penguin's ass. The tortillas also don't heat up like they should and, because it's corn, the texture turns into a batch of your 3 year olds play-doh. I'm already disappointed from the start but I say okay, maybe the flavor could rescue these hostage-taken ingredients. Boy was I wrong. If you offered a stray dog these tacos, they would throw them on the ground because the street side would at least give them flavor. I had to add salt to these mf's to give my tongue the dignity it deserves. I had 2 tacos al pastor but they were actually a lo pendejo because the adobaba sauce they cook with is either non existent or just trash, I'm still guessing which. The other 2 were tacos de cabeza; they were colder than the ice water I asked for. Cabeza meat can't be cold because it gets mushy and disgusting. These had a bit more flavor but only because some salt landed on them from the tacos al pastor. The only positive thing I can write is that I know where NOT to get tacos. Overall terrible tacos. They were cold and tasteless, like my ex girlfriend. While I did not try anything else on the menu, I can assume they share the same fate since the shop is called Taqueria and they're terrible at what they specialize in. Dude, this place is for real . . . for real for real. If there is any part of Anaheim that could be categorized as kinda sketch, the location for Taqueria Mexico is where it would be it. But Anaheim sketch, not like super crazy down sketch. And yes, there is a difference. Anyways, the night we went, there were only two dudes working behind the counter. But I'm telling you if you could have seen them in action, that's all that was really needed: one was behind the register and occasionally helping out with the cooking and then there was jefe who was cranking out the food. The gamut of folks waiting in line varied from college kids to those who looked less than amicable, but ultimately, you knew they all knew the food here is hella bomb. The no nonsense tacos with onions, cilantro, and red or green hot sauce are absolutely the way to go. I was especially digging the way they were made. Instead of doling out the meat with spoon, they use the taco shell of each order like tongs to scoop out the meat which ultimately maximize the amount of filling each shell can hold. It's genius. I also ordered a cheese quesadilla for my little one and jefe looked at me like, what? no meat? what's wrong with you? Chicken burrito was also pretty tasty and considering what happened when ordering the cheese quesadilla, I'm glad I didn't order a veggie one. So I think everyone has to love hole in the wall taco joints. Seriously! This place has some ups and downs but as you can see in the ratings... its a pretty well liked place! I must add to that legend here. So I am here with one of my friends from High School a saucy latina named Crystal. Well she starts going off in rapid fire spanish and I have no clue WTH she is asking them about. So we both make our decisions and order some tacos!!! Well I tried different types but had 4 for lunch, I know I am kinda watching how much I eat or I woulda had a lot more! So I got a chorizo, an Al Pastor, and 2 carne asada. I got them with cilantro but no onion and the red sauce. Crystal got a Chorizo, Al Pastor, and a carne asada with a diet coke. What a copy cat huh!!! Ohh well its all good... literally and figuratively! So I tear into the Chorizo with hungry abandon and then think... wait a minute this is TASTY, kinda like the fat lil kid eyeing the chocolate bar kinda TASTY! SO I am like yeah let me add a lil more lime juice and dip it into the red sauce this time, FLAVOR OVERLOAD just what I was looking for! So I follow this up by the fresh Al Pastor and do the same thing a bite without and then the addition of lime and red sauce and back to flavor heaven... granted it was darn good before the extra flavors on this one. Not the Best but definitely on the upside. So then I progress into my standard fall back carne asada and was able to enjoy them a bunch too. Nothing great or horrible on them. However, I did prefer them without the red sauce and just some lime. So for our 7 tacos and a large diet coke, we both ate for about $8.50 out the door! That was a pretty good deal IMHO. Some other quirks about this place that help give it its slightly dive/late night snack charm but existed at 1-2pm on a weekday! The homeless looking dude that someone else mentioned who wants to be friends and is a truly nice guy but looks a bit rugged for a hobo. He helps out clearing tables and greeting folks. But a super nice expressive guy. Just be careful you are not taken aback when he smiles and half his chiclets are missing! Next this taco joint actually shares total spots in this mini strip mall with a donut shop! Yeah thas right. Get your carne asada and shove it into a bear claw or twist; I devil double dog dare ya! But this place oozes dive and late night sobriety research. I know I will be going back many more times as this joint is just a few blocks from my office! Ohhh yeah! Came here again. It's only been a week, but what can I say, I'm hooked. I even looked it up on yelp and saw there's one in Santa Ana, perhaps closer to work...yippee. Plus we shared a grande horchata ( the "h" is silent, all that Spanish class in HS and say "whorechata"!) all for under $14! Not too shabby. I pretty much inhale my tacos. So good. I love this place so much that I made it my regular taco spot. I can't pass up dollar tacos! I usually just get the carne asada, but you could mix it up. The al pastor and carnitas are when I want a change. The tacos come with a few slices of lemon and you could ask for extra sauce. They offer both red and green, but automatically put the red on the carne asada tacos. They have baggies to put some freshly cooked carrots, jalapenos, and onions. I usually double bag it so it doesn't spill all over my car. To wash it all down I always get a large horchata. My friends never come with me to my random hole in the wall adventures. 24 hour taco joint! I always get the carne asada and carnitas tacos. The carne asada taco gets topped with red salsa and the carnitas gets topped with green if you ask for everything. You can even order breakfast burritos now ($6~) but stick with the tacos and you can't go wrong. Honestly, there is no place in Orange that is 24 except for fast food joints and Taqueria de Anda, so this place is my after-hours go to spot if I ever need to munch on something. I have gone to various Mexican restaurants to eat tacos, burritos, and have a meal with a drink such as horchata or tamarindo. This is my favorite place to come to when it's just for asada tacos, but that's just me! Let me start off by saying that the tacos cost $1.15. They are your regular double small tortilla tacos with your meat choice and choice of green sauce or red sauce, and cilantro ans onion if you want to add any of them. The burritos are a little more than $5 but they use a big flour tortilla and load it with lots of meat and rice and beans if you want. Overall, I can't complain. The place looks somewhat clean, has a restroom for customers and there is also a donut place right next to it. The reason I give it four out of five stars is because the cashier and taco guy who I got my order with appeared to be in a bit of a bad mood. I know you guys work night shift and iy sucks, that is why I am only taking away one star instead of two. However, some of us are LOYAL customers. I grew up on Glasselle street so I have never seen you guys, nor have never had somewhat of an attitude from the other co workers. I can't be unfaie and take away more stars because like I said, this is a first! Do change you attitude and I bet more people won't feel like I did.
