Dinner at Tarpy's Roadhouse This place just hits every time. The fried artichoke appetizer (not pictured ) is a MUST -- crispy, flavorful, and so addicting. The bruschetta is fresh and perfectly balanced, and their rotating specials like cioppino and roasted duck always deliver. It's one of those go-to spots for special occasions (my grandparents love it here), and the ambiance makes it feel a little extra special every time. Yes, it's on the pricier side -- but when you're in the Salinas/Monterey area, it's a solid choice for a nice dinner with consistently good food.

Tarpy's *never disappoints! We held a memorial service here for my beloved in-laws. The staff went above and beyond. They set the room up beautifully and placed some extra tables out for us, which enabled us to play a video, display flowers and photos. The food was served at the perfect temperature and was plentiful. The staff was able to accommodate a group that was far larger than originally anticipated and they were kind enough to set up another large table. Unfortunately I didn't capture any recent photos but again Tarpy's has remained consistent. Thank you Tarpy's!

Daphne was the "breath of fresh air" greeter for the celebration of life I was attending for my Auntie P Andrew was the assistant GM born and raised from the Valley. Jessica, Karen & Natalie were all present as waitresses with the "smile". I failed to photograph pictures of all the yummy goodness food. In spite of cognitive decline with my purpose is to introduce the "finer cuisines" to my hungry peeps!! I highly recommend Tarpy's Roadhouse for all your fine dining indulgences. Yes this was totally a "celebration of life" experience

First off it's a beautiful building restored in 1909 we were told. The happy hour is fantastic and priced great for the area. We had exceptional service from the server Nicholas! He said to call him Nick from Nepal. Such a great guy and the food was amazing as well. I highly recommend coming here if in the area. Ask for Nick he won the best server in Monterey County 5 years in a row.

It was my cousin's birthday so I made a reservation for a party of 13 on open table. They were able to accommodate for a wheelchair user and also decorated the table with colorful confetti which a cute touch. We had a great bilingual server which was extremely helpful since my grandma and aunt primarily speak spanish. All the adults got cocktails, while the kids got variations of lemonade mixes. Of all the cocktails we we taste tested, I think the best choice was definitely the mango margarita. For appetizers, we got complimentary bread, calamari and fried artichoke. I am not usually the biggest fan of fried food, but it was the birthday boy's choice. I was impressed by both dishes, especially the fried artichoke. For my main dish I got the New York Steak with Truffle Butter, which was cooked to the perfect medium rare. At the end of our meal, the birthday boy got a complimentary sorbet with a candle. The server even offered to take our pictures and took a couple of group shots. Overall we had a great night, from the drinks to the food to the service. We loved this choice for a celebration night and will definitely be back.

Went there for the 1st time and I must say I wasn't disappointed at all . Besides the very good food the interior was very pleasant and so was the energy of the establishment , and definitely returning sooner than later .

I came here for the first time with some gym buddies where we completed a nice hike nearby. One of my friends recommended this place as they've been many times. We came on a Sunday around the early afternoon and it was moderately busy. We sat outside in the patio area near the building, it was a very nice day. We were greeted by a very nice server who took our drink order. He was very charming and engaged with our table. I decided to go wit the BBQ chicken plate as I was very hungry after the hike and it came with cute corn bread shaped like a cactus. That was a nice touch. My friends had ordered salads and burger and they all enjoyed their meal. This place has ample parking and ample seating if you have a large party. I also wish I remembered our servers name, he was a delight. I recommend Tarpy's!

Had a wonderful , delicious lunch here today . Our server Annelise( ?) was delightful as was all of the staff. We will certainly be back! It's such a special and beautiful place! Except for the absolutely tacky Tarpy's sign going into the patio! I sent pictures of the lovely setting to several friends and they were enthralled, but each said "That sign is so ugly ". How about a nice wrought iron name over the arch? Anyway, coming here makes me feel like I'm in France!

Everything is 10/10 !! The food, service, the atmosphere is a vibe of its own. Just beautiful inside. Almost as if you're somewhere in a story book. Definitely worth dining here. Give them a try you will not be disappointed. We did not have reservations, came around 3 in the afternoon. They have their own parking lot so no stress on finding a place to park.

Such a beautiful place to enjoy some good food. Eating in the courtyard was definitely the best experience and people had their dogs! The food was decent. I got the French dip and the meat didn't have a lot of flavor, but the Bavarian pretzel for the appetizer was actually quite good. I really enjoyed this place for the ambience, it felt like a little slice of Europe.

This restaurant was recommended by someone on TikTok, so we decided to check it out. The ambiance was perfect, and staff was very friendly and helpful. Our server, Nick, was so knowledgeable, friendly and very very polite. He honestly made our experience so much better with our short conversation we had. I'm not from the area, but because of Nick, I highly recommend this restaurant.

I have bee to this place many times and have had different experiences. Generally it has been lunch and food and service has been excellent. This time we went to dinner and the service was a bit slow, albeit our server did her best to accommodate everyone. The food was disappointing. The coffee rubbed wings were terrible. We had salad with salmon and a blackened salmon burger. Both were lacking flavor. My salad has no salad dressing and the blackened salmon was falling apart which tells me it was old.

Meats are from Snake River Farms which is good to know. The fresh Pacific oysters from Fanny Bay, Canada were outstanding. So fresh and not fishy at all and plus the jalapeño onion mignonette was sweet and so good that I saved it for my steak lol I loved the cap of my prime rib but the middle was a bit chewy like it is with most prime rib. i was really glad that the steak dinners come with the mashed potatoes and stir fry spinach (also glad it wasn't creamed spinach for a change). He enjoyed his ribeye as well. The salts are really interesting and we were told to use it sparingly since the steaks were already seasoned intentionally. He ordered a glass of Emblem and I had Bee's Knees which was pretty syrupy sweet in the way that honey is with a hint of bitterness. We shared a mini key lime pie which was pretty good and exactly what you would expect. The free birthday cannoli is so fun and was presented with a sparkler but unfortunately my least favorite because of the odd tasting candied fruits in the cream. We had an amazing time here and really enjoyed our dining here.

I am honestly quite confused…read more My partner took me to this steakhouse on our first night in Monterey. We were very excited because we love trying new places, and as we walked in and got the first impression of the restaurant we fell in love with the vibe. The section of the restaurant we sat in had two general areas separated by a set of pillars. There were high top tables across from the bar and then booth-tables on the other wall. We were put in a comfy slightly more "private" booth in the back corner which I appreciated as me mentioned it was our first time going (and we were celebrating my birthday). We were greeted quickly and got set with drinks and an appetizer. The server was very kind during the whole experience. He seemed knowledgeable about their restaurant and, as a part of the "experience" they provided, displayed cuts of the meats that they have and are serving. This was a new experience for me and I appreciate the idea, however I did not necessarily need that experience for my night to go well (that may be a personal preference) We first got Prime Rib egg-rolls as an appetizer. When these came out my partner and I got so excited. They looked and smelled amazing. After we ate the first one we both became even more excited, because if the egg-rolls were this good then our steaks are going to be awesome. To note: this is not necessarily a budget friendly restaurant. We entered knowing that this was going to be a *special* meal (seeing how we are both in our mid twenties and we are doing fine we don't have a great deal of overflow to spend) and were ready to spend a bit extra on a nice special experience. My partner got a Beef Wellington cooked *chef recommended* Medium Rare ($68) that comes with mashed potatoes and spinach I got a Filet Mignon cooked medium ($74) that also comes with mashed potatoes and spinach. When the plates came out we both immediately cut into our food. As I cut mine open, it was noticeable pinker than I expect a medium steak to look, but I have no been to a fancy steak house and I don't know better. As I began eating and further cutting up my steak I noticed that it was more pink than I initially thought, and definitely more pink than a medium steak should be. I overall enjoy my steaks medium. To me this means a little light pink in the center. Maybe slightly darker if it's more juicy but when I eat a *pinker* steak it's usually a consistent pink all the way through. This steak had two layers of pink going towards the center I am a non confrontational person and find it difficult to correct things, so after my partner helped me express the mistake, the server was helpful and the manager came by to apologize and remake the steak. I was excited to try again. By the time the second steak got to the table, my partner was about halfway through his meal (I wasn't going to make him wait) so I was eager to finally taste this steak. I was devastated to see the dark pink center of this steak again. By this point I was ready to finish the night and go back to our hotel. I understand the servers and staff feeling bad for our situation and wanting to make it better. Our server came by and made sure we didn't want anything to go, anything for dessert, etc. but I honestly just wanted my check. They did send us home with the second steak cooked *again* and that did come out medium, however when we did leave I wanted something else to eat. This was a very strange and unusual experience. I was hoping for the best and don't think I will ever give it another try

But 1) this place came highly recommended from a few forum threads from about a year ago (argh) and 2) they charge a $25 cancellation fee for reservations. I'll start with the ok -- the pasta wasn't bad. But $35 for each is a bit ridiculous. Michelin guide spots in LA and SF don't charge that much. Not bad though, which is pretty much the only win for the night. The wine pours are truly embarrassing and the restaurant should be ashamed of them. I haven't seen such a small, IKEA sized glass since I was in college. The worst part is that patrons ordering a bottle of wine had the normal wine glasses you expect. So they have those glasses, they just choose to nickel and dime those paying by glass. That alone is just such bad form. The service of course was the atrocious cherry on top. Our server wasn't egregiously awful so I won't name him... but he forgot multiple parts of our order, brought a drink out after we'd finished our meals (because it took so long), and gave us the wrong receipt at the end. Mind you, there were only 2 other tables in our section. Yikes. I'm guessing this place was a gem and a hot spot a while ago, but since then, people moved on. In the meantime, I have a feeling they're struggling because of how much they nickel and dime their few existing patrons. It's a sinking ship and I hope management rights it... But for now, I'm sure you can do better for your money.

You know how hard it is with a toddler and baby. But we also know the importance of bringing them. We were super excited to have an unbelievable steak dining experience. We were in Carmel for two nights and we researched this place to eat at. Upon arriving with our party of 6 everything was smooth. We put our order in and then what felt like over 90 minutes we were asked if we wanted our daughter's burger to come out first. Which we did. After some time there. The A5 Wagyu came out. The stone plate was pretty cool. As a matter of fact, our 3 year old had her first tasting experience with the A5. She absolutely loved it. And so did we! The actual timeline was sit down reservation at 6:15 and first A5 Wagyu to come out was 40 minutes later. Then a total of 90 minutes before our entrees came out. That was the time stamp on our food pics. Finally our order came out which was a porterhouse we ordered to split for two. It had the spinalus, and all the yummy with it! It was incredible. My friend ordered just the spinalus and said it was the best steak he's ever had. The food was definitely A+. What happened next brought the experience down to a 3 star. We paid for our deposit through the chase reserve portal using Tock prior to arriving for dinner. We opted to utilize our points since we saved way more by doing that. We paid a $300 deposit worth points. So in essence we should've received a bill with a minus $300 on it. When we received the bill, it did not have the $300 off from it. So I asked about it and they said they would take care of it. After a very long time, they came back and said they're trying to take care of it. After more time, one of the servers said to me, if I can pay the full price on the receipt and I will receive a refund in a couple of days. So we did. We didn't want to wait any longer. A couple of days later I sent an email and the owner responded with an email from that night that he was taking care of the situation. Apparently, Tock reservations that do not opt to accept points and cash deposits will have a hard time. And since Saltcraft accepts Tock reservations with only cash deposits, I was SOL. A couple days later I was refunded the points back to my account. The food was off the charts! We had a great time devouring the yummy in all those steaks! The servers and people taking care of us were super nice and seemed to care about our experience. Overall, we felt they could've addressed at the end with the time of order till the food came out with apologies. But there was no apologies. They just brought out the food. Then the amount of time not understanding what was going on with the bill. That could've been addressed. After writing an email to the owner, he apologized that their service wasn't timely. "I'm sorry that our leisurely service style for the meal and the lead time for our steak process wasn't a good fit for your family." That was his quote. We wish them good luck and no ill. Things happen and hopefully we all get better from it.

They're seared with duck fat which gives it a great buttery taste, allowing you to taste the fatty flavor on cuts of meat that aren't the most fatty. The fries that go with each steak dish are also really good and go with the steaks. We had the cowgirl ribeye and spinellis steak. They were both good, I personally preferred the cowgirl ribeye since it had more fat. For the other portions of the meal, I really liked the sourdough bread they gave us. It tastes freshly made. The mushroom side that we ordered my husband really liked, but it wasn't my taste since it was a bit oily. The toffee bread pudding we didn't really like-it was too sweet, very small, and not very well presented. The cocktails we had were stellar. We had the paper plane, Rio de Janeiro, and Thai boxer. My favorite was the Rio de Janeiro; I was watching it being made and they squeeze fresh oranges into the drink. It was a good combination of orange juice and cream. The Thai boxer was good, although I did think it was a bit watery. The service was great and we had a lot of good recommendations from the staff. The restaurant had good ambiance and visually pleasing interior design. It's located in a shopping plaza with easily accessible parking as well. Note-if you come for your birthday or special occasion, they don't do anything extra like a dessert.

There were multiple managers on the floor, the one that sat us, told my husband happy birthday. That was already such a nice start to the evening. Our busser was Enrique, he was so friendly, kind and quick with making sure we had water and cheesy bread. The sommelier came by, didn't catch his name but he was also so friendly and helpful. We ordered a bottle of a red wine local to the area. Our server was named Christian, he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the menu and lots of great recommendations! We both ordered a cup of soup, one cup of clam chowder and one cup of abalone bisque (one of the best soups I've ever had). As well as the oysters which were great. For our entrees, my husband ordered the chilean sea bass. Which he loved! I ordered the NY steak, cooked medium rare. Absolutely perfectly cooked and delicious. We received a slice of carrot cake for my husband's birthday, timed perfectly at the end of our dinner with a candle in it for us to celebrate and quietly sing together. Just the two of us. This was, without a doubt, one of the best dinners we've ever enjoyed together. From the attentive service and inviting ambiance to the exceptional food, every aspect of the evening was flawless. We will 100% be back again. Thank you for this memory.

Sardine Factory pays attention to detail (even to the point of which way the dishes, silverware are facing). The food is the best you can get from anywhere in the World, and presented beautifully both in the arrangement of food and presentation. Our Gang of Bay Area Eaters follows "MPep" (the fiercest Food Critic ever). There's a large group of us that frequent Sardine Factory. We sometimes eat at Sardine as much as 4 times a week. This last week, my friend (I'll just call her "M-Pep" because a reincarnated chicken that was originally Austin's came back and we call her "eMily Pepper" so "MPep" for short). I digress. So my friend whom chicken MPep was named after has been at Sardine 3 times this week. Oh, Austin and his family and friends eat at Sardine all the time. It was Aus and "Sis" that introduced MPep to Sardine. There's generally about 2 - 4 people / friends that start out for Sardine from the San Jose area. We rendezvous in the Monterey general area and end up at Sardine in a group from 2 - 9 people. Mpep is the big fan here and will literally throw a fit if we don't go to Sardine. Every good exam grade, birthday, reward for cleaning the house and cars - "What reward do you want?" "Sardine!" She says. So every trip to Sardine can be a 3 - 4 hour one way trip to Monterey, with getting back to the house as late as 1 - 2 am. It's a day trip for sure, but honestly, we're just both impressed and honestly somewhat puzzled that she's apparently - with her young heart - fallen for this Factory. We'll try to add and incorporate more names, but one Sardine Family we want to thank for sure is the General Manager Jimmy Oh. We watch him go from table to table, eager to learn about every guest, and making sure every customer and table is very happy with their experience. I've been in the restaurant and service industry, and Jimmy Oh is ... someone like him is nearly impossible to get on staff or management. So I hope he's recognized for putting an amazing image for Sardine. (Well, we found out upon creating this review that Jimmy is the General Manager. He has all the Professional Hallmarks of a very good GM, but approachable and grateful for feedback in a way that many or even most GM's somehow lose). As you can probably guess from this very review, we're a mix of unusual special personalities. Most of us have physical disabilities, some are very elderly, and at least two in our group have traumatic brain injuries either from injuries related to severe heart issues and one had severe injuries from getting hit by another driver / car under the influence. We need help getting to and at our tables. We often keep repeating things or asking about a dish over and over. The staff has always been welcoming and patient to our special needs. Mpep is young and instead of being treated - brushed aside for being "a kid" - she is allowed to ask about all the dishes. This has led to a systematic "log" she makes about all the dishes and she is intentionally going from dish to dish to try everything at Sardine. I have seen at other establishments where she was even asked to leave. She simply has a special personality (started college at 11 years old) - so I've never been angry at other establishments misunderstanding her or even kicking her out. But at Sardine, she's treated like family and I've never seen anyone receive her with anything but joy and cheer that she's come back "again." I'll try to add photos within the next day or two. We have an elderly grandma in our group and given her recent ER stay, we can't be sure how long she'll be around. But we're grateful for the staff and waiters being so patient with her requests and repeated questions. It's just good to have "a place" we know we can be treated by family and have food that's simply amazing and presented artistically with such a sincere desire for the guests to love this experience.
