This is my all time favorite bakery. Pasadena just opened but I use to frequent the Sausalito location which then moved to San Francisco. Every item is a treat! Hands down the best bread,croissants, cookies etc etc. Try the avocado toast..unreal! I think I bought one of everything and it was amazing! Don't forget to buy the morning buns! Superb! Find this place by accident. We parked at Green street and walked to the Colorado to eat lunch and saw this cute place in a residential street. Two beautiful mature trees make the outdoor pleasantly shady and cool. Had coffees and croissants after our lunch. Very friendly and helpful service. I wish the coffees were a little more. Amazing. This place really lives up to its reputation. I've had the Tartine cookbook for ages and have always wanted to go. I just discovered their bakery in Pasadena. I've read about Tartine but never had a chance to try it so when I found out they had opened in Pasadena I was stoked! Soooo what did I get? A thicc loaf of bread (the Country Loaf, to be exact) and a ham and cheese croissant to go. I won't lie, I devoured the ham and cheese croissant on the drive home. Made the mistake of taking one bite at a red light and then I just kept at it... (don't judge me - it was that good). I love a good ham and cheese croissant and Tartine does it right. Then the Country Loaf. My, oh my, is it baked to perfection. I cut a small first slice to try and found it hard and chewy but then I cut a second slice, toasted it, and found that made all the difference. It's soft, delicious, perfect on its own or with a slice of cheese or butter spread on top. Excited to dig into the rest of the Country Loaf later this week and can't wait to stop by again for other baked goods! read more

If you use a French name, then why not do it like the French and serve your food on proper porcelain and glass for on-site dining? I am sick of this throwaway culture. Easy street parking. The service wasn't friendly. I asked what meat was in the quiche and the clerk pointed to a sign on the counter and told me to read the sign. It was my first time here so I must of missed the sign, sorry for asking. Then when I asked for it to be heated and placed in a to go box I got an eye roll. We came here for breakfast, technically lunch but for us it was breakfast. I don't remember the exact name of the sandwich but it was Turkey, pesto, and cheese. We've been to tartine before, but to a San Francisco location. We ordered several loafs of the sourdough there (best sourdough I've ever had btw!) so for this day, my girlfriends birthday, we decided to try out their lunch items. It was a decent sandwich, didn't get us too full so that was nice. Food wasn't bad but this place was pricey. If I remember correctly our total was $52 for the two sandwiches, and a loaf of sourdough bread. There's much better breakfast/lunch spots out there that'll get you a whole lot more food for what we paid. read more

Oh my goodness! Tartine is in Pasadena! Yay! We decided to enhance our inaugural visit to Tartine by enjoying the beautiful Southern California weather while walking there from our home. Morning coffee and a festival of baked goodness was waiting for us! We arrived to find a nice open air patio seating area. Reassuring space where we can enjoy our Tartine yummies in the midst of the pandemic. We examined their tempting menu and decided to order the Crumb Cake with Seasonal Jam, the Savory Scone, and the Morning Bun in addition to coffee. The crumb cake was excellent with the luscious topping. We are weak for a good crumb cake and this is one of the best we have had. The savory scone was tremendous with a delicious mix of spices combined with the baked cheesiness and sausage. So good! The morning bun was a fluffy sugary delight. These baked thrills were complemented by hot rich coffee. We are very excited that Tartine is in Pasadena and will be coming back many times in the future. read more

A little pricey for the quality. All breads are overdone to the point of a slightly bitter crust. But cakes and croissants are great.

I come here with my dog for brunch all the time. Their food is consistently good and fresh. Service is friendly. What I appreciate the most is that this is dog friendly. Pricing is a tad higher than the neighborhood restaurant for the amount of food. read more

We tried Tartine for the first time last week. Overall it was a nice experience. Food didn't take very long to arrive. We loved the avocado toast! Lots of flavor especially with an egg on top. We also got the egg sandwhich which was delicious but a little too salty for me and I'm someone who adds salt to everything so I know it was too much. We also couldn't resist getting the bread with butter and jam. Yes it's very basic, but also no, it's not. Coffee was good too. read more

Yeah, the reviews make sense. We didn't even realize the place had closed 19 minutes ago. The doors were wide open. No issue. We were fine to come back at another time, but as we were turning to leave, I felt like the bald guy working there was very sassy and essentially rubbing it in our face that we were too late. In a very sarcastic tone, he said, "yeah, no, we're closed. But we open at 8am and hope to see you first thing in the morningggg." Incredibly unnecessary. Guys!!! Is it me or does this place ALWAYS smell like burnt butter?! Honestly, overrated bakery. Croissants are always burnt, overcooked. AMAZEBALLS!! I hot the croissant au jambon and it w a s absolutely fabulous. Really crunchy puff pastry outside and an hearty amount of ham and cheese (some type of swiss, i think). I was excited to come here but was unfortunately disappointed. The matcha they use is bitter and was premixed in a squeeze bottle rather than made fresh. The quiche filling was tasty but the crust was too burnt for my liking. Their oven wasn't working so they couldn't heat up our pastries so I went for the almond croissant which I thought was overcooked. Service here was terrible. I picked up a rather large order and the cashier was not friendly at all. This was very recent on a Wednesday morning around 9:00. Tartine has a good reputation and I would imagine it's a top priority to train employees to be polite and somewhat cheerful. The cashier had a super lackluster, don't-want-to-be-here attitude and could not be bothered to offer even a small smile or a few friendly words. Then when I was handed the bag of food by someone packing it in the kitchen area, she too did not seem happy. It was like "here" and placed the bag on the table. No "thank you", "thanks for waiting", "enjoy", just nothing. Unfortunately, these things do matter in restaurant businesses. I was pretty disappointed at how bad the service was on this last visit. Probably won't be back for awhile to be honest. Don't need to look at sour faces and sour attitudes if I don't have to. read more

Food and drinks are delicious, as they are at all Tartines. This one is my favorite because of the people who work there, especially Whitten and Emily, who are always welcoming and warm. I don't even live in this neighborhood, and I head here most mornings because it's a great start to the day. I watched as an African American man who was possibly down on his luck (non-housed) attempt to purchase one of their overpriced pastries and was rejected because the place was cashless. Discrimination at its finest. And frankly a disgusting display of racism. HUGE Disappointed. At first, I had a high expection for this bakery. Too expensive. Breakfast bun (only egg and cheese?) is $14 and I added avocado and bacon (each $3.5 & $4.5). So total $22 (except a tax) only for the small sandwich and it doesn't have impressive taste. Matcha Latte ($6.5) Too bitter taste. If you are not a big fan of the bitter taste, DON'T ORDER THIS. It seems they use real green tea leaf, but taste was worst. It was very strong like a medicine.. And why should I pay for employee's benefit? They charged around 4% of total.... How did I not know about this new addition to Pasadena!? Not only were the pastries we tried amazing, but the outside seating area was so pleasant. My husband and I got the pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant) and a chocolate chip cookie. The pain au chocolat had a wonderfully crisp exterior, an open, airy interior, and tasted terrific. It was the best chocolate croissant i've had outside of France, though I do have one criticism: they were very stingy with the amount of chocolate inside. This is really a weird decision, because they got all the more difficult aspects of making the croissant right, and then stinted on the easy part. I guess quality chocolate is expensive, but still. I'd gladly pay a bit more. The cappuccinos we had were delicious, but one criticism here as well. They were served in paper cups. Now, if this is due to the pandemic, I totally understand. If not, well, all the other coffeehouses in the area are using ceramic cups. Who wants to drink coffee out of a paper cup? Not moi! Especially in a coffeehouse that seems to be aiming for a more high-end experience. We can't wait to try the baguettes in the future. We're so happy Tartine has come to Pasadena. read more

Just happened to stumble across this! Oh so happy. My favorite in SF. Was traveling and needed a quick lunch opened the Yelp app and look what popped up. So so happy. Their Morning bun is probably my favorite pastry ever. Also the magic they use to create the bread is amazing. 96% sure Chad is a wizard. I find it hard not to buy one of each item. But can't go wrong with the country loaf. Or the baguette. Or the plain, and I don't mean that in a derogatory way, croissants. They are otherworldly.
