I come here with my daughter a few times a year and have yet to have a bad meal. This time, I had the Okra Masala and she had the Chana Masala. We both enjoyed it a lot. It came with rice and we ordered a garlic naan to share. I got 3 stars which is good heat for a curry but not enough for the masala. We love their naan and it the perfect accompaniment. We had a iced tea, but were expecting something different from a standard Lipton-type tea. When we went in, 5pm on a Hoopfest Sunday, we were the only customers. Tandoori Chicken had Tomato ketchup gravy it was hot dry, it was smelling bad too, seems they added ketchup to cover the smell, never seen Tandoori Chicken topped with gravy. Comforting Punjabi food in a not-so-diverse city! This has become my go-to for the food of my childhood - my best friend growing up in India was Sikh - and this place does not disappoint. They use an arbitrary six-point heat scale (why not five? Seven?) and a 3 is still spicy. The phones weren't working, so I drove in to place a to go order, roughly $100 worth of food. I added a modest tip being that they're essentially placing my food into a bag. The lady who took my order proceeded to walk away and then walked back up to me ask if I meant to tip $30 instead, and commented that the tip was low. I'm all for tipping wait staff generously, but this is a to-go order. Nor do I appreciate having someone chastise me for not leaving a $30 tip, in a restaurant where people are eating and having to witness it. The food is alright, it's one of the few options for Indian cuisine in the area. But after this? I'm alright, I'll take my business somewhere else. I felt like splurging and ordered their Mixed Grill for the first time. While it was a bit unusual to see all the meats basted in the same sauce, the sauce was delicious and had a wicked bite to it. Consistently unpleasant. I can only speak for my takeout experience at Taste of India, which has so far made me regret it each time. I would not suggest ordering from here if you want anything more than a bland, watered-down meal. The food looked like it was microwaved and was a day or two old. I am not sure if the chefs have tasted their cooking. I ordered the Samosa Chaat, Paneer Pakora, Butter Chicken and Shahi Paneer. For bread, I ordered some naan and Aloo Paratha. The Samosa Chaat was cold and lacked any seasoning at all. The tamarind chutney was watered down so that did not make it taste any better. The Butter Chicken was at best sub-par. It was a blended watered down sauce with food coloring and onion and some flavor of tomato. The Shahi Paneer was not shahi (royal) in any way. Watered down and pasty with no seasoning as well. The Paneer Pakoras were not fully cooked. The batter was still uncooked paste inside. The Naans resembled and tasted like extremely thick, unseasoned Chapatis/Rotis. Naan is usually soft. The Aloo Paratha lacked any seasoning and was hard so I could not physically eat more than the first few bites. I would best describe the taste as that of charred cardboard. Honestly, for the price being charged for such bad food, there are better establishments in Spokane that make pretty good Indian food. Those places also give you a side of good naan bread and rice with your curry. From my experience over the last few orders, I'm definitely not ordering again, and probably not eating in either. read more

Taste of India was a delightful culinary experience. The service was not the quickest, so I would not go here for dinner if I was in a rush. The seemed to be a great place to bring your family to eat and have a leisurely meal. Lots of groups were eating, talking, and having a great time. We ordered two dishes and Naan. We ordered Malai Kofta and Okra Masala. Malai Kofta is a collection of "meatballs" in a creamy tomato sauce. I ordered the vegetarian Kofta so it was "meatballs" made from potatoes and carrots. Malai refers to the creamy tomato sauce that the Kofta is served in. It was mild in flavor, had a great tang, and very yummy. I would definitely get it again for the sauce it was served in. The Kofta did a great job of being a meat substitute. We also had the Okra Masala. This dish had fresh fried okra served in a special sauce that had tomato, garlic, ginger, and fried onions. I have had okra before and it has been okay. This Okra dish was something else! I wished that I ordered this as my meal. I definitely made sure to claim the leftovers as my own. We ordered the plain naan. It was fresh, buttery, and I wanted to eat it all at once. One order of naan is a piece of flatbread that is about the size of a plate. Although my stomach wanted to eat it all, I split one piece of naan with my partner. Even when reheated it has great flavor. I definitely want to come back when I have time to patiently wait for food and am looking to try more food. read more

We started with the lamb samosas they were over cooked they peas were hard and the ground lamb was crumbles. Then we had the mixed grill. There was no kabobs as listed everything was soooo over cooked like It spent a day in a warming dish and then the next day warmed up in the microwave. I went to a different local place that was recommended, but this was much better. They were a bit busy, but nothing took a very long time. I came back here and did not order the buffet, to see how nice these guys could make it... Not very...not at all. I ordered the Lamb Vindaloo, I asked them to make it as hot as they could. What I received was chunks of lamb meet in a sauce that tasted exactly like the "Rooster" or "Cock" sauce you see at so many Asian restaurants. Wow, real creative guys. This added an odd chili taste that is not usually found in Indian cuisine. I'm not expert, but this place is not that great. However, until the MUCH BETTER Bombay Palace reopens, this is pretty much it in Spokane. (another option is to go to our one Indian grocer and make your own, see my review) I really wish you guys would share some of the kool aid, I just don't get why this place is so highly rated. read more

Decor was dated but plesant give the feeling of an old restaurant in a remote part of India. I had Chicken Bhuna and Naan. The chicken bhuna came with rice. We asked for extra spicy food it was no where close to spicy but will not complain. Overall i would go back to this place in case i ever return to Spokane. Our waitress had no clue on Indian food. I came here for lunch a couple weeks ago after a recommendation. You come to Indian restaurants because you are looking for the culture of the dishes. The place was quiet and they had the buffet going but we ordered off the menu. My friend was craving a lamb dish and I love things like Butter Chicken. The mango smoothie thing that they have is delicious. The dining room could use some updates but the food is tasty. The rice is cooked and spiced very well. The butter chicken and the lamb dish were great. I ordered medium spice and felt like my food was too spicy but I really liked it. It was flavorful and I would come back to try more. I really enjoy Indian food and this is my favorite place to get it in Spokane. I came here last week and had a lovely meal for a great price. It is perfect for eating family style as they bring out a big bowl of rice and the entrees are definitely big enough to share. We started out with Lamb Samosas for everyone and they were delicious and filling (2 for $4.95). They were served with a trio of chutneys on the side, which were all delicious! (I really liked the sweeter one on the samosas, and the tomato one on the naan. The green one was amazing on the meats.) We also ordered two orders of the garlic Naan for sharing too ($2.95). I ate most of that myself. For the main meal we ordered a few entrees and the Tandoori Mixed Grill was our favorite (It included tandoori chicken, lamb boti kabab, and tandoori shrimp $18.95 (among other things). You can specify how spicy you would like an entree, so that is helpful to personalize to your table. On a final note one of the people in my party decided they wanted to see the special oven that heats up to 750 degrees. The owner was really classy about this awkward request and the waitress was also really friendly to us. They have highchairs available and you can totally bring kids here too. Also-I noticed on the way out that they also sell Indian spices and frozen Naan if you want to have some goodness on hand at home. Also, Taste of India merch if you wanted a T-Shirt. read more

I really like the food at Taste of India. That said, I have had a repeating issue with the service that can't be overlooked. I'm a vegetarian, and three times over the last few months my food has been served with chicken instead of the paneer I requested. At any restaurant, that's a problem, but at an Indian restaurant, that's severely worrying! Curry was so so, no desserts, no chutney no nothing. I felt nauseated for hours after eating. Only good thing was rice, which had cumin on it. The service was very poor. No one cared to take away used plates and top off water. Ambience was under lit at day time. I do not recommend this restaurant. read more
