If you like the classic American neighborhood diner feel, where coffee comes in a plain mug, the two choices are counter seats or wooden booths, and the classics are somehow always a bit better than you'd make 'em at home, some to this Tastee. Great execution of what a diner should be, and a much more impressive location than it's Silver Spring namesake. Went for breakfast today with a group. I'll start off by saying the staff was really friendly. I ordered the Veggie Omelette with Cheese. Turns out they used something like Kraft singles in it which was kind of gross, but the omelette was fine. The biscuit that came with it was not fresh at all. I came here to meet a friend for lunch on Memorial Day, my last full day in the DC area before I headed back to New York. It was around 1:30 PM and it was rather empty. We were directed to a booth. After perusing the menu, I was thinking about soup. When the waitress came over I asked her about the soup of the day. Apparently it was on the menu but I didn't see it. When she showed me I opted for the chili instead and a side salad with some diet Coke. I was asked about dressing and I had chose Italian. My dining companion ordered the fried clam strips with mashed potatoes and corn with cream gravy on his potatoes. My salad came out first. I would have waited for him to get his food, but my friend told me to go ahead. There was lettuce, shredded carrot, tomatoes and thinly sliced green bell peppers which on first glance I thought was Granny Smith apple pieces. The chili was served by itself. The chili did have a good amount of spice but it did seem a bit heavy on the tomato, which gave it more of the acidic tomato flavor. At one point our server was very attentive but as we were finished, my friend let her know that we were not in a rush for the check. Since the place was almost empty I guess that was fine. However when we were ready to go we could not find our server. We went up to the cashier to ask about our server and the cashier pointed her out to us. Everyone knows that I love diners. We all know they can be a hit-or-miss. For me this time this was a hit. I went on a Saturday evening wasn't that crowded and sometimes that can make a difference in the service that you get. I brought my grandkids and we decided to have breakfast. They had omelettes that they put together their self and I had fried pork chops. The first thing my ten-year-old grandson said was this is the best omelette! He said it was really good! I felt the same way about my pork chops they were Grill to perfection I had scrambled eggs with cheese rye toast in order of home fries. Normally when I take my grandkids any place 10 and 11 year old we always have to-go boxes this time they claim their plate and omelettes were huge. The potatoes were good and so was the coffee. The service was quick, and the server checked on us several times. They also seem to have their usual crowd, and even they were friendly. The owner or the manager did say that there is parking and a lot nearby on the weekends is free and right out front there is metered parking. Now don't go into this place thinking that it is your typical New Jersey type Diner know it's more like a greasy spoon type Diner without the grease. I was reading my bees review and one of the things that he said was they had really good Reubens so I got a Reuben to go to give to my son and there were absolutely no complaint he said it was wonderful. So if you like omelettes and pork chops and good coffee this is the place to go. I will tell you it is a small place and your booth is pretty close to the counter and depending on how you look at it that could be a good thing. Oh and the prices are pretty good good food shouldn't have to cost an arm and a leg this was good food and inexpensive food. Tastee Diner is a Bethesda institution; the food is great, the service is full of characters, and it feels like you are traveling back in time. The food is pretty good, they have practically every comfort food you could want. It's a classic place. Open 24/365, the place for that late night shake or burger. Or breakfast for dinner. Anytime. 1/2 a star if I could. Typical Sunday at the Tastee, we have been coming here separately and together for eons. We know we are here to be abused. That's Okay. Not tortured. Our waitress let us sit for a full 15 minutes before she could get our coffee order. That's pretty unusual for a Diner. Any Diner. Then, after she takes our order, plop goes our coffees, and a moment later, toast. Toast? Doesn't that come With the meal? Not to mention, one was a sandwich, not the bread and the insides at different times. No refills on coffee in 45 minutes. Toast cold. order f'd up. Not a good way for me to start. After living in this area for two years I never made my way to Tastee Diner until I moved and I wondered why I did not decide to try it sooner. This place sticks out like a sore thumb. Its exterior and interior really don't fit in with the Bethesda scene and surrounding stores. Despite its drab outward and inward appearance the place is great. One of the few places that is open 24 hours in the DC Metro Area. We were seated immediately even though it was a packed house at 2am. Our waitress was super nice and took our order and was patient with us when we could not decide what we wanted. Our food came quickly even though people were coming in and orders were being placed left and right. The food is super cheap and super good! I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and a side of fries. The bacon strips were large and crispy and the meat was juicy. The bun was toasted (not my favorite) but it was still delicious. The fries are to do die for. They are deep fried, but somehow not greasy and they are non-salty! I am not a huge NaCl person but I definitely tossed a dash of salt onto the fries. They were also crispy and a darker golden brown. They were not flimsy or undercooked. The menu has a lot of variety and the food is super cheap. You can get breakfast all day too just like at Eat 'n' Park! Overall, this place is great and probably has a great brunch (at least that is what I heard from my friends). I will definitely visit this place again when I am in the area for a quick bite. Our hotel recommended this place for breakfast the morning we checked in. What a terrible recommendation! Not only did we have a socially awkward waitress, but a woman with super frizzy hair was behind the counter without a hair net. It looked as though she had a bad case of bead head, but was too lazy to use some hair spray and tidy up before going to work at a restaurant. The place is not cheap as other reviewers mentioned because the portions are relatively small. I've never had an omelet the size of a frozen chimichanga. The omelet was also overlooked = rubbery eggs. My friends were not fond of their malt waffle or the sausage biscuit and gravy. Our waitress asked if we wanted small or large juices, but our " large" juices were tiny! I could only imagine the small being similar to the water cup a dentist gives patients to rinse. Ehhh, it may be a little bigger than the rinse cup. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so I always look forward to trying new restaurants and diners. Old school diner ambience and food: perfect As new Bethesda residents we were looking for a weekend breakfast restaurant. Based on Yelp reviews we tried Tastee diner and were glad we did. The ambience (if you can call it that) is right out of the 1960s: rows of wooden booths across from a long counter with stools. There are even small juke-box machines at every table, just like when you went to breakfast with Mom and Dad. The menu has traditional diner breakfast food (scrappile anyone?) served all day. The service was efficient and the prices very reasonable. Sometimes it's good to get exactly what you expect, with no surprises. Our breakfast at Tastee was one of those times. The only tip I can offer is to try the biscuits. They taste home-made and remind me of my years in North Carolina. read more

This place sucks, first of all the young lady asks us if we want anyone to drink besides water. (Right away she wants that extra dollar on our bill for the tip), Secondly the Mexican lady looked and acted as if she didn't want to be there at all. And when my wife and I ordered our food, we were expecting quality and quantity. Instead it was half ass. I got a chicken sandwich that was very small with no fries. The menu doesn't specify that any and all orders are as is and the fries have to be paid in separately My wife got there steak and it look more like a small beef strip that looked bad in taste and her whole meal looked just terrible. This is kind of your classic diner. The food is relatively inexpensive, but taste is pretty good. My go to is the malt waffle, which is great.
