This place feels like stepping back into the 80s--but not in a good way. It's very outdated, with dirt floors, dirty bathrooms, and even carpeted walls. Overall, it just feels old and poorly maintained. It honestly seems like the original owners haven't invested much into updating or improving the space. That said, I do want to give credit where it's due--the younger staff were friendly and hardworking, and the ice cream was genuinely delicious. The food took about 30 minutes to come out, and unfortunately, it wasn't worth the wait. The fries were good, though. Love Tastee Freeze when I'm craving a traditional American burger and shake. The options are endless here. Tastee Freeze will always bring back the 80's/90's and what life felt like as a kid. I wish they would revamp the restaurant itself though. Some of the tables face the inner workings of the trash cans. I can tell the bathrooms are old as dirt and I avoid, avoid. I'm having to edit my review, as Tastee Freez have gone downhill badly. Obviously they've never been awesome, but you could get decent food. It was always slow service though. But my most recent visit infuriated me to the point that i don't think I'll be going back. It was that one hot day we had (June 2023) and after a long hot day in the yard, i felt like a Bananas Foster was in order. Husband feels like having a Milkshake, so off we go. The line is busy, but not excessively - I've seen it this busy before, and so he puts in our order (8.10pm) i wait in the car. I can see all the other people getting their number called. I become impatient because people who ordered after us are coming out with takeout bags, but i just start messing round on my phone, and try to not think about it. Husband comes out after a period of time, holding nothing in his hands, asks me the time (he hadn't brought his phone) i tell him it's 9.18, which is when he tells me our order went in at 8.10. He goes to the counter, asks about it, and gets served in less than 10 minutes. A Bananas Foster and a Milkshake? Really? I'm raging about this length of time because following our visit, we'd planned to go along to the airport, and watch planes take off and land, and just enjoy the last of the evening with the top down on the car. However due to the excessively long wait, we had to go straight home, as he had to be up at 5am for work. What on earth is going on over there? Are tickets not dealt with in the order they were printed? Who's on the pass? Who's expediting the orders? This is ridiculous, and i won't be going back. read more

Total S*%$ show. I have been here a number of times over the years and had decent food in a very casual atmosphere. So today I tried to go there to pick up some lunch. So seems like they must have recently made the decision to not staff the front counter for orders, and now you have to order on a touch screen. The one staff person standing at the end of the counter was engaged in a mildly heated conversation about them not getting anything they ordered a few feet away. I wasn't aware of this going in and after going up to the counter, it was a customer that told me I had to order on the screen, maybe there was a sign, but I didn't notice it. So I tried to do that, but the screen wouldn't wake up, so I just walked out. Here's the thing guys, don't make it hard for people to do business with you. If you are unwilling to provide customer service, I am unwilling to provide a customer. I know you don't need me, and I don't need you, there are plenty of places to get lunch. Maybe you'll get the screen fixed, maybe you will 86 the whole idea and put people back on the counter, I won't know, because I won't be returning, but I hope you do for your sake and those who still wish to enjoy the place. read more

Great & Subpar - Mixed Review. I'll start with the Icecream and Milkshake. We're out looking for our lost dog and we put an ad on their front door which was very very cool 5 stars for caring! Now to the Subpar - Cheese Burger Leila got okay, Richard got the Pastrami Burger, basically a burger with a slice of Swiss Cheese and a couple of slices of warm pastrami, He drenched it in Ketchup to get through it and then there's mine a Chicken Cordon Blu Burger. Okay it was well, pretty bad. I couldn't get through the fact it was a processed chicken patty. I disected it and ate the ham. Sad. They laughed at me because sometimes I really pick the loser in the group. Yup, I did it again. Their's was fair fare. Mine - Never again so I'm rating a 3 great at what they do 5 Icecream and Milkshakes but food like for lunch or dinner it's a crap shoot - Roll Those Dice! 2 to 3. The food is just SO BAD. the past couple times we've eaten there have been horrible (undercooked burgers, super slow service, generally gross food and super high prices.) I decided to go online and checkout their menu after driving by for the last 6 months and seeing the sign that states 'order online' out front. I don't usually go out for lunch but was extra hungry today. I ordered a Reuben and a small order of onion rings through their online ordering system. It was super easy and nice to see that you can put names on each item, in case you're ordering for more than one person. I had he option to pay online or in store and chose online. My order was ready right on time, according to what it said once I checked out. You can also put in a time, to pick up your food at a specified time. I beat the lunch rush, so it was a mere 20 minutes from order to picking it up. My Reuben was tasty, what I expect from rye bread, kraut, Swiss cheese & sauce! Onion rings were crunchy and breaded, however they stated battered online. Not a big deal, I would've ordered them regardless. The only thing I found weird was that they didn't cut the sandwich in half. It's a pretty large sandwich and I did need to cut it. read more

This place has a small town atmosphere with oldies music playing inside. They have been in business for 50-60 years, so it's made into a Pokestop in Pokemon GO. I activated a pokemon lure for the kids and we had a great time eating and catching pokemon. The service was friendly, but the pastrami sandwich was bland and the cheeseburger had too much mayo like sauce. However, the vanilla cone dipped was a redeemer. I will definitely return to try other stuff on their menu. Nice little hideout. Family friendly and clean. read more

Everyone knows what this place is. I don't have to describe it. There's very few of them in the nation and people in anchorage are well aware of its awesome. However, for the people that don't know, it's the end all be all of old school ice cream shop/diner. They've got burgers, chicken sandwiches, curly fries, regular fries, chili cheese fries, and something on special for a limited time each time I come. It's definitely not the most updated, clean looking, uncluttered place. I ran away from it the first time I visited. Today I stopped in for a dole whip. I was having a terrible day and that cleared it right up. It smelled amazing when I walked in. The girl behind the counter, and all the other kids working there for that matter, all looked like they hated their jobs. The surely girl behind the counter took my order accurately and efficiently though. I'm sure she may have even hooked up my fries with a little extra chili. The ice cream is amazing! The depth of flavors and perfect soft serve consistency is really hard to beat. It's soft but it's not melting like other soft serves. It's a great place to bring the family. read more

Quick divey diner style and done well, a wide variety of items on the menu and many of them are great!! The pork tenderloin sandwich is something my grandma would of loved! A fantastic Ruben messy, cheesy and rye bread just as it should be. Their burgers are basic and yummy and the prices are fantastic. Hand mixed shakes and freezes with a huge variety of flavors. They will often have a line out the door but don't let that discourage you they get through it quite fast. read more
