My favorite pho joint. The staff treat us so kindly and the atmosphere is mellow. Great prices for great quality food. Their spring rolls are excellent, crisp, and full of flavor including the tasty peanut sauce that is provided. Their pho bowls are generously sized with well seasoned broth and noodles. The fresh condiments that are provided really top it off. There is so much more on the menu to be explored but to be honest, I enjoy the pho so much it is hard to divert from that. They do have a pretty good vegetarian pho as well, but I do not recommend eating the shiitake mushrooms (I usually take them out) as they taste rubbery. The beef broth is absolute excellent. My first experience here was somewhat lacking. I usually love getting pho when I'm hungover because of it's healing qualities, but from the very beginning there were things I just wasn't' a fan of. Later experiences got better, but not all my concerns were really addressed. I was happily greeted by an older gentleman who seated me, brought me water, menu and took my order. Starter, pho and sandwich to go. Spring rolls came when I was halfway done with my main course and my water was never refilled. The cook in the back was noticeably hacking in the back which almost had be walk out. Price was excellent. Service has been better, but is still only average. Refills aren't an issue now that I've simply been more vocal about tending to things. Asking for things to come out first goes a long way, but shouldn't need to be stated. The gentleman in the back was temporarily sick, but did not instill confidence and should have had someone replace him back them until he was better (also good they didn't pull the common thumb in bowl move, which would have counted against them) Spring rolls are fresh, not very tightly rolled so eat with caution. Peanut sauce could be more rich, less peanuts, more fish sauce and a larger bowl as I often run out. Pho broth is not oily, a little cloudy, but still rich and well made. Good flavor, a little light on the herbs and spices though, more beefy than most. Massive Thai basil leaves, they use tiny jalapeno's for garnishment options. Their version of extra tripe is basically nothing, completely ok when you don't' want thing, but extra seems like a chore as they have never provided adequate amounts. Rare steak is excellent, brisket is also good, almost too trim and a little dry. Noodles are great because they aren't clumped and don't' make up 80% of the bowl, they are thinner than most too. Bahn Mi's don't use the often hard French baguette and offer plenty of daikon/carrots, not overly pickled, but the counter balanced cilantro and jalapeno were not there, so it tasted kind of bland. The chicken is moist and delicious, but the pork I found tough and dry. They offer boba with some of their drink, but I go without, the thai tea portion is pretty large with just the right amount of grit from the tea and not overly sweetened. The restaurant used to be an old Mexican food restaurant with very dated seating and tile. The TV usually plays some strange nature show or food show. Signage is poor as the experience could be better overall with just a few minor tweaks. All in all they are a new and coming up pho place, but they aren't polished. read more

the ONLY PLACE I go out of my way to get beef stew. I have been to 3 places in san marcos since moving, and no one seems to carry beef stew JUST pho. I like, like like! Tasty Pho makes tasty pho! They got the name right! Just came back from there. Little place, 5-6 tables but clean and very welcoming. The owner was very nice and friendly! Cool guy! We got a bowl of beef pho which my husband inhaled. Our 7 year old got a bowl of chicken rice noodle soup (#36) and kept saying "Best Pho EVER!" lol. She told the owner at least 4 times on the way out "That's the best pho I've ever had!". It was cute. I got the chicken egg noodles soup (#56 I think). It had a very light garlic flavor and was delicious! We also got the Vietnamese egg rolls (6 of them for $5!) and they were YUMMY (and gone in 3-4 mins!) I am new to this Pho thing, been only to 4 Pho restaurants but I can definitely say that this one is by far the best one! I am loving it! It's a bit of a drive for us but we'll be driving it. I can't find a bad word to say about the place. Oh... they also had a coupon for 20% off in one of the magazines so our total for the 3 soups, 6 egg rolls and the hot tea my husband had was $22. MEH is pretty much exactly how I feel after trying this place. For starters its a superrrrr hole in the wall type of place. You're better off getting take out if you decide to come here. I decided to go with the special they have listed on the wall called the 'Vegetarian Option." For $9.45 it comes with soup, egg rolls/spring rolls, and a drink. They don't have fountain beverages so your options are the variety of store bought cans they have available. What I didn't notice until after I had ordered and was re-reading this particular special is that you can either get tofu spring rolls or MEAT egg rolls. My question is why would meat egg rolls come with the 'vegetaraian' option? I had to ask the waitress specifically because I was confused. She went on to tell me that they didn't offer veggie egg rolls so I was left with getting the spring rolls.... Another thing that's kind of my pet peeve is when the veggie based meals are priced higher than meat meals. I noticed that the veggie pho was $1 more expensive than the beef option which always leaves me wondering why. Meat costs more than vegetables so that it would make more sense to charge higher for meat dishes. When my food came out I was visually underwhelmed. In all honesty it kinda felt like I was being served out of someone's home kitchen rather than a restaurant. Maybe I'm used to the huge bowls of pho I'm served everywhere else I've gone that when this one came out I was pretty surprised. The portion to me was something that maybe should have been on a kids menu. Aside from the size, the taste didn't make up for it. The broth was super basic, it tasted like something I could put together myself with some chicken broth and veggies. I swirled my fork around maybe 3 or 4 times and the noodles were gone... I was just super unimpressed. The waitress was really nice, that's the one thing this place has going in my opinion. For me, I'll stick with my favorite place in Rancho Bernardo- $6 for my vegetarian pho & it's delicious. My opinion is this place is pretty basic & overpriced for what you get. I've been coming to this place a lot since it's close to my work and because it's great to have when you're feeling under the weather. The staff is great and the phó is always delicious. Kind of small, it has 3 booths and 4 tables, but it's workers are very nice and the food is awesome! Whether it's your first time trying phó or not, I think this place is the best one of North County I've tried yet. It's kind of a hidden gem since it's tucked away between some other stores, but the small mom and pop looking shops are always the ones with the best food. Recommend. My daughter was craving Pho so she went on Yelp and found this place. Luckily we know that looks don't mean squat when it comes to Pho and lucky for this place because its a little scary looking. But who cares when you have delicious broth for your steak, noodles and trimmings to swim in. While the steak wasn't quite what I call rare, it was very good and the sprouts, basil and gorgeous jalapenos were super fresh but a good Pho is really dependant on the broth and Tasty Pho earned its name with their broth. The ventilation is sluggish as my vegetarian nose was assailed by unappealing odors. Besides that, the place is small and clean. The owners speak little English but are very friendly; generous on the smiles. Between the two of them, my food slowly crawled out to my table. It was worth the wait. I ordered the "vegetarian choice" which comes with vegetarian pho, vegetarian spring rolls (or egg rolls), and a soda for $7.95. I asked for honey milk tea instead of soda. No fuss was made on the substitution. The vegetarian spring rolls were freshly made and refreshingly scrumptious. She initially made it with shrimp which I declined since my honey wasn't with me to eat the (4) halved shrimps. The side veggies (bean sprouts, leafy basil leaves, jalapeños, and lime) were freshly cut and succulent, not dry and wilted from sitting out pre-cut. The vegetarian pho broth was flavorful. There were mushrooms, soft tofu, cilantro, and a generous amount of green and colorful veggies in my soup. Absolutely delicious! She gave me a 50 cent credit towards my honey milk tea.
