The spicy tw pot medium is pretty spicy- similar to BP. I like the fact that it comes with free green or black tea. Definitely hits the spot after the spicy hot pot. My mother's tolerance for spice is mild, so she was burning through her meal. (We were scared that the scale was off, as it is in most restaurants). Now this mild is actually MILD, so he was a happy camper. I ordered a mild lamb hot pot and asked them to put just a little bit of spice in it. When I got my food, they had forgotten my rice and my pot looked a little spicy. But when I ate, it was really spicy. They had put way too much spice in it. They also kept swing by to take my friend's bowl even though it wasn't close to being empty. We had to tell them twice that she wasn't done yet. And then they dropped a check on our table when we hadn't been sitting there for that long. So rude. I came here on a Friday night and was extreme impressed with the food here. I've heard from my friends that Tasty Pot is better than Boiling Point and I admit that is very true! I've had BP a couple of times and I have been disappointed; my first time at Tasty Pot made me realize that I will never return to BP. The place is more spacious here than BP in my opinion, you're not cramped up to the table next to you so you get to enjoy your food more. The menu is very, very similar to BP, if not exactly identical. However, I found the quality of the food to be better here. Food came out pretty fast and it tasted amazing. The pots were an okay size though, wish I had more. Also, you aren't allowed to substitute ingredients. I wanted to get either #1 beef or #2 lamb... really wanted lamb, but it had a lot of other things I wasn't too fond of eating and so I went with #1. You get a choice of either a side of rice or extra vermicelli noodles as well which was nice. #1 came with 2 clams and one of them was still closed so I couldn't eat it. Each person gets their individual hot pot and you have different flavors to choose from. I settled on the stinky tofu b/c it sounded really good to me. And the smell wasn't even that overwhelming b/c it's just simmering in broth with a whole bunch of other stuff, which mellows out the odor. Maybe Taiwanese don't do peanut sauce? You really can't go wrong with peanut sauce. The add-ons (like soft tofu and udon noodles) were a little on the pricier side for the amount of portion that was given. I could have brought my own block of tofu for a quarter of the price. Pretty much the exact same thing as Boiling Point. Even the staff's uniform is similar, down to the trucker caps they wear and the logo! The best part is that there was not a long line even during busy hours since there are plenty of seating. + THE FOOD I ordered the Japanese miso pot and it was very filling and tasty! The pot, just like at Boiling Point, is larger than the usual size. You get to choose between having clear glass noodles or rice along with your meal. I really enjoyed this pot because the soup base was very tasty. The udon noodles were very fresh. There were a lot of different meats in there- crab legs, shrimp, different fish balls, different fish cakes, fish filet, clams, and beef. There was also a bit of cabbage in there, but it wasn't like Boiling Point where they load a lot of cabbage at the bottom of the pot. My favorite part of this pot was the seaweed twists. They tied up the seaweed strips into nice bows and they were really crunchy and tasty! + THE PRICES The prices are not bad at all. It's about $12-$15 for lunch and $13-$17 for dinner. This was really worth the price since there were so many different foods in the pot. The downside is that the add ons are pretty expensive and can add up really quickly. We got seated pretty fast and I ordered the beef hot soup (mild) and my boyfriend ordered the Japanese miso hot soup (mild). My broth was a little salty for my liking (and really oily!) but it was still really good. My only complaint is that it only had three pieces of beef and a lot of fillers like cabbage. I would think that BEEF hot soup would contain a little more beef, but what do I know? The miso hot soup was really good and contained a lot of seafood (I stole a lot from my boyfriend, sorry not sorry) so I'll probably get that next time. The servers were not very attentive in my opinion, considering that there were six people working (yes I counted) and one server took my water away before I could finish it.... And what's up with the paper water cups by the way?! Overall, the food was pretty good and I'll be back. EDIT: I just thought of another con.
