This evening I ordered walnut shrimp and upon arriving home discovered the walnuts shrimp had white sauce on top of them and tasted old, hard and dried up. i have never ever had honey walnut shrimps that tasted so horrible and with white sauce. I regret not checking my food out before bringing it home ( lived to far to take it back).

One of Oakland's Finest in the trenches!this place has been a staple in the community for years...it's off a busy boulevard but can almost always find a park!

Tasty Szechwan is a typical inner city Chinese take out place, limited menu. during the pandemic no dine in available. no outside dining. offerings: rice plates, chow mein, fried rice, dry fried ribs, combos, menu on wall. eats: kung pao chicken rice plate (10) -strips of chicken slices with celery, zuchinni, red chilits, bell peppers, -sauce a mix of chili spicy, soy sauce & chili sauce? had a unusual taste for kung pao chicken. plate was overflowing. uneven chili taste. lower portion of entree has a greasier texture/taste. 3.5 stars take outs: -noticed everyone ordered the dry fried ribs haven't ate this in decades. discontinued most fried items awhile ago. -limited parking in area. -take out ordering at window

Ordered for delivery and got the wrong item. This is the first time I ever had sweet hot and sour soup. It's not for me. I do appreciate it was hot in temp when I tried it. Ribs were cool, just be careful if you have questionable teeth - the fry is really hard and you may get small bones. Total hand to mouth eating for these. They did give a lot and they were crispy. The jalapeños were nice and spicy too. I'd try them again, but not that soup.

Best salt and pepper , dried fried ribs, ever. Pure . Everything else I've had is good too. BBQ Pork fried rice is hella good too. The staff is friendly. It's kind of what u would call a "hole in the wall" restaurant but from my experience those have the best food! Every time I go it's on point , I had it last night and I just ate some of the fried rice for breakfast and it was hella delicious

I only came here because egg roll kitchen , the best Chinese food in Oakland was closed. It Wasn't a pleasant ordering experience. I ordered over the phone. The person who answered so was soo busy that he hung up on me after I notified him of the first entree. I asked for jalapeño on the side since I would be sharing this combo plate with my toddler son. Guess what...picked it up and there were jalapeños on the ribs. But the dried fried ribs are good paired with the jalapeños.Get home there were only 3 shrimps in the shrimp fried rice‍. The rice was good. Would've been better with more green and white onions.Go to egg roll kitchen across the street

This place is cosmetically unappealing, but I love the fried ribs. That's the only thing I've tried.

Although 3.8 is pretty low in my opinion, I believe this place should receive more of a 4.5 if I could do half ratings. Why? - Food has been consistently good and I know because I've been here several times ordering pretty much the same things (green beans, mapo tofu, lamb ribs and fried chicken); they MADE me like lamb which is huge because the only place I only loved it was in New Zealand, not a fan of the aftertaste - Service is friendly, food comes out relatively quickly; only suggestion is making more stops to refill waters/tea and ask if we are ready to pay the bill because we kind of need to flag them down for those things - Price is decent, def not $$, more like $ just because I split 5 large dishes among 3 people with LOTS leftover and it amounted to $33/person and in the era of 2026 with skyrocketing gas prices this is really good for tax and tip included - Easy parking in the area All in all, I hope this business is here to stay because I will be coming back again and again.

What a surprise! I stopped going to this restaurant before…read morethe pandemic hit. I had disappointment after disappointment, both in house and to go. Tonight I was craving good local chinese food and decided to give this place another try. I don't know why. I always felt bad with each previous sad serving. It was terrific! The order was ready on time. The containers were bulging with food when before the servings were getting skimpier and skimpier. The chow fun was not swimming in oil. The cumin lamb was no longer 90% peppers but a generous portion of lamb and a good ratio of peppers. The crispy chicken appetizer was delightful. The dry green beans had a snap. It was such a complete reversal from the last experiences that I'm glad I went back and we will certainly continue to satisfy our Szechuan cravings with this place. I had braced myself expecting in these dire times with many food places closing or gasping with high costs, a less than stellar experience. What a wonderful surprise!

However, the last time we got it it had become a watery affair loaded with bean sprouts. The dish was only a shell of its former self, so we never went back. Instead of cheapening the dishes, they should just raise the prices.

You know a dish is good when you tell yourself, "Oh, I'm just going to try a little bit of this."…read moreAnd then you can't stop eating it. This was my experience with pretty much every dish I ordered on a recent trip to Yu Yu Za Zang. I'll admit this is one of those places I've walked or driven past for years and have always meant to try but just never got around to it. But I finally had an opportunity to drag my cousin/regular dining buddy with me. We ordered Yang Jang Pi (also known as Double Skin in some places), regular jajang (spelled zazang here) myun, and tang sue yuk (beef - which is the traditional Korean meat for this dish). My cousin and I are huuuuuge fans of the Double Skin at Great China in Berkeley, so the Double Skin here had a pretty high bar to reach. We were pleasantly surprised to find it more than held its own. The portions of everything were very generous, and the mustard dressing was nice and spicy. Perhaps the veggies were not quite as crunchy as Great China's, so not as much of a variety of textures, but this Yang Jang Pi was still delicious, and I still think about it days after our visit. The jajang (zazang) myun was also very generously portioned and pretty tasty. I haven't had any in Oakland in a while, so hard to say how it compares, but I would definitely eat it again. The beef tang sue yuk was incredible. Again, large portion, perfectly crispy outside, tender beef inside, and one of the best sweet and sour sauces I've ever had with this dish. The vibe is simple and clean; nothing fancy, but I went for the food, so I was fine with that. The service was also friendly and fast. There were barely any people there on a Saturday evening, which made me sad, because the food really is good. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. They also have soju and beer. Although Hanshin Pocha next door is popular, I could see Yu Yu Za Zang being a decent spot for delicious, very reasonably priced food that one can share with friends while having a couple of rounds of drinks. And in this economy, aren't we all looking for a good deal?

Long story short, the food was so delicious! We got two items that seemed a bit less spicy, but overall it had the tingling spice and heat. I've been here a few times and one time the owner or cook came up to our table to recommend some items and talk about the type of food he serves. They're very nice people and very generous, especially when I came by on a slow Wednesday for a solo dinner and I was pretty hungry so I ordered a few new dishes I haven't tried before. I ordered the spicy tingly beef noodle soup, the lamb in sauce dumplings, and the ruo jia mo stewed pork slider and I was also offered a bit of their liang pi cold noodle on the house which I commend on them for going beyond their service and hospitality. The noodle soup was presented so well and the dumplings sauce was so good that I poured some into my broth for extra flavor. The slider was so moist and fresh, juice was literally dripping off each bite and the cucumbers in it gave it a good crunchy texture. In the end I would come back anytime and order the same and perhaps try their malatang!
