This place was one of the few places on the street with outdoor patio dining during COVID. We had nice fire warmers by our table to keep us warm in the cold weather. Authentic, delicious, hugh portions, flavorful and all around great meal. I had the chicken taco salad. The portion was quite large. The chicken was very tender, corn was fresh and sweet, the avocado, perfect ripeness, and the dressing.... think sour cream and taco seasoning combined. We sat on the back patio which was so quaint. Covered and lots of flowers made it a great afternoon lunch spot. Tables were spaced out properly for Covid, great spanish music playing made me feel like I was somewhere in Mexico. The word of the day when describing the food at Tatas: fine. It's fine. I can't rave about anything we had for takeout tonight. I liked some of it but nothing could be described as "amazing". Pickup was a PITA. They offer a curbside option online... but it doesn't actually exist in reality. You pull up and there's nowhere to pickup. The guy that answered the phone couldn't tell me if my order was ready because "I'm working remotely". So we parked and then waited 17 minutes past our pickup time for our food before it was ready. So, noted, no actual curbside pickup. Take it off the website. The poke was hands down the worst thing we ordered tonight. I'm a big poke fan and this was not good. The tuna was fishy. It didn't have any flavor. Just... cubes of moderately fresh tuna with a side of chips. Would absolutely not recommend. Everything else: the elotes, the shrimp taco, chile relleno taco, jibarito taco, el chapo, everything... it was fine. I'm not writing home about any of it but I ate it. This is our neighborhood taco joint and we come here not because it's close, but because every meal we've had here slapped. The tacos are stuffed and tasty. Restaurants lately have been trying to outdo themselves with innovation, but sometimes, I just want a chicken tinga with lots of chicken that's delicious and hits the spot. Husband: awkwardly figuring out how to answer appropriately We've tried most of the tacos worth eating in our neighborhood and decided to venture out a little further and try Tata's. Interesting menu + good reviews sold is on it pretty quick. We sat on the front patio, but there's alsoa back one too. It was pretty quiet in a Sunday, so we didn't need the reservation we'd made. We started out with the ceviche and beer. They have a surprisingly extensive drink menu; I love that they break it up by style. The ceviche was the low point of the menu for me. It wasn't bad, it was a bit bland and I like more of a citrus bite. For our main, I got the No'la fish taco and the potato taquitos. Husband got 3 tacos: chupacabra, portage and llorona. I was surprised my fish taco came with cheese, but it worked. The taco was really good and I'd order it again. The taquitos were good too, but a little messy; thankfully they gave us extra napkins. Husband enjoyed the portage and chupacabra, but the llorona was more than he bargained for. The llorona is made with ghost pepper and comes with a warning that not only is it hot, but should be enjoyed last. The spice crept up on him to the point he was sweating and threw in the towel, someone who enjoys considerable heat. Overall, it was a good meal; staff was friendly and attentive. Drove by during lunch time and decided to make a stop after reading some positive reviews. We ordered the chips salsa, nopales, cauliflower al pastor and jiabarito tacos, 1 chicken tinga taco, beef jiabarito taco, and Frida taco. Chips salsa was ok- salsa was fresh and mild, the chips were mostly super crispy with a couple of stale chips. Nopales was warm and fresh- it was ok flavor wise. All the tacos were good, the tortillas were fresh, a little to thick for my taste. The gamechanger and what I would come back for is the jiabarito tacos- both were delicious and the shell was perfect. We also really enjoyed our drinks cucumber/ mint and hibiscus waters- super fresh and not too sweet, perfect summer drinks! Was disappointed to find out you can no longer order individual tacos, you have to get the whole dinner, that includes rice and beans. But you can order individual tacos for delivery. We also had a weird service fee added that they tried to justify. Prices for food and drinks are also unusually high as it is for a local restaurant. Not sure if I will be coming back anytime soon, which is sad because it is a nice location. read more

On top of the Margaritas, and surprisingly, this place has a huge selection of beers. Good Beer! Belgians, local flavors, you name it. The food selection is also far reaching. Greetings my Foodzies, yesterday we went to Tata's at 5700 w Irving park rd in chicago. Very roomy the main floor seating is casual and then you have a raised area around the windows where it's more formal. Our server Janeth was very pleasant and accommodating. We began our lunch with ceviche, lime juice, shrimp, scallops, white fish and avocado. Tasty but needed a little heat. Also for an appetizer we had the elote (Mexican street corn, butter, mayo, cheese and chili piquin) good flavor, a little bland needed more chili piquin. We decided to try a few different tacos, Tata taco (blackened fish, pickled cabbage pico de gallo, chipotle aioli) the fish was mild and overpowered by the aioli. Next was the No'la (blackened fish, cheese, jalapeño coleslaw and chipotle aioli) once again a tasty taco but overpowered by the rest. On to the Lakeview a (beer battered white fish with coleslaw chipotle aioli on a flour tortilla) nice light batter which allowed you to taste the fish in this taco the flavors worked well together. On to the jalapeño ahi tuna poke(ahi tuna marinaded in a ginger soy, sesame seaweed, avocado, hot sauce and radish on a tostada) this was my favorite, the tuna was a nice red color the heat was perfect and everything paired nicely. Lastly we had the shrimp burrito (lettuce, tomato, onions, cilantro, refried beans , rice , cheese and crème) sounds like a lot but very tasty. For dessert we enjoyed flan a more dense than usual but flavorful. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner Marci, very nice lady she told us that the whole restaurant concept came from her 95 year old mother who was a taco street vendor . Much more kid friendly, imo, has some specials and on a very hot day had grrreat air conditioning. We were on The early side of dinner, so service and food were prompt. Sorry guys. I've had good experiences except for today. More as part of a group order for takeout. Part of the order included 3 Jibarito tacos. It was for a person trying Tatas for the first time. Not to mention, the group chose Tatas as the place to order for our Employee Appreciation Lunch. We received 3 tacos on flour as opposed to the plantain tortillas that they usually come with. Im always on the hunt for the best taco place in town , so when i found tatas tacos I knew I had to give it a try . It's a cute little space with plenty of seating and quirky decor . The menu looks very original , they have mole con Pollo tacos , jibarito tacos , some with French fries , and the list goes on . I'm guessing that because of the uniqueness of every taco , and the fact that they're made from scratch the food takes a while to be served . Definitely don't recommend to come here when you're starving . I also didn't like that although all of the tacos were served at the same time , some of them were a little bit cold . Maybe that's the reason why I didn't love the food , how we my husband LOVED it and he's been back a few times . So incredibly amazing! All of their tortillas are hand made! I ordered a spicy Margarita as well and it was soooo good! I feel awful about this review but here goes. I really wanted to like this place as I moved to the neighborhood last year, looks cool on the inside and it's a local business I'd like to support. However, the food was not good and expensive for what it is. I had the al pastor and da harley tacos (trying for one standard and one different taco) and both were bland, over cooked and way overpriced. $6 for a street taco, it better be good, and this was not worth the money. The elote also tasted, well just like corn with some cheese sprinkled on top. Yet another amazing female owned business in my area. When you can tell the staff is greeting you with a smile WITH a mask on?? You know you are in for a good night. Warm and friendly, like stepping into a family member's kitchen. Drinks were so tasty and came to the table fast. Partial to the hibiscus marg, but the cucumber was a close second. We had (these are in order from my most fav) The Lakeview fried fish taco, the Smoked Hog pork belly taco, the Chicken Mole taco, and the Kraken octopus taco. Flavor BOMBS. If I could give zero stars I would. Sat at the table for 30 minutes and didn't even get water. Not 1 waitress stopped at our table. We walked over to the bar and requested a waitress 3xs and still nothing. Walked over to the bar to order drinks while waiting and that took 20 minutes itself. Tatas tacos are top tier tenderness taking traditional taste to town. This is an adorable little spot just off the six corners. Tata's has a nice semi covered HEATED OUTDOOR dining area in the front, and they offer carry-out service for when it's gonna be -44 degrees out and we have to eat in the car or treck home. The tacos are a bit pricey, but the ingredients are fresh. I haven't had the luxury of sampling their random beer selection, but it appears extensive and rotating cans and bottles (no tap). read more

Great spot in Portage Park! The tacos are huge. We each ordered 3, 2 is more than enough. The chicken tinga and chile relleno were the fan faves of the night. It's BYOB and next to a Binnys! BOOM! So we grabbed a couple a beers before we headed inside. The one issue I did have was with the chicken tortilla soup. The broth is tasty, the portion is huge and sharable. The issue was the chicken, they put a whole piece of chicken in the soup. Having to take the chicken out to cut it up seemed a little silly. I also wish there was a little more to it besides the broth/chicken. I wish I could say this place was good I-CANNOT. First, we ordered the house Margaritas, they were the worst I have ever tasted. They were so sour I had to water it down ad some extra tequila and still had to wait for ice to melt. BTW I did tell our server and another waiter that came to ask how things were. They did not even offer to remake it or offer anything else. The food was edible. But nothing to write home about. And for happy hour the options were beer, sangria and tequila shots. Another good taco joint! It was Taco Tuesday and I needed to try a new spot out. Great looking spot, I like how they decorated the place and they even have some the traditional Mexican game called lotteria, kinda like bingo. I ordered a bunch of tacos to try. The Sirena shrimp wrapped bacon taco(my favorite), the Mole with chicken, carne asada and the al pastor. They were all really good and fresh and they even make their own tortillas. The horchata was kinda bland, maybe it was watered down a bit. They do have other items that sound delicious so I will be back to try them out soon. The staff was friendly. Seriously a gem in Six Corners you have to try. I don't know how many different varieties of tacos they make, but I haven't been disappointed yet. They have a nice system of table service or counter carryout, and I'm pretty sure they deliver but you have to check. My family likes to start with some chips and guac, but if you ask me that's just taking up room that could be filled with tacos. They're on the small side (street size) and you can order everything a la carte or as a dinner. For such a small space, they have a crazy selection of beers and pops. If you are up for another taste adventure, head across the street to Junebug Cafe for a chicory coffee and beignets for dessert. read more

Okay, I love supporting small business but I always try to be honest with my reviews. The craft tacos were good (and recommended by the server), but the carne asada tacos were mediocre. The ambiance is nice, but I felt the service was pretty bad- only because it wasn't busy and we still had to wait awhile for water refills, our check, etc. I probably won't come back here only because it was really expensive for what you get. My family of 4 ate three meals and one kid's meal and it was over $120 with tip. Honestly, it's not worth it to me. In Chicago, I think you get more for your money somewhere else. read more

The shrimp taco had four BIG shrimp on it, and the tata and nola each had a whole filet of fish. So much food. My favorites were the shrimp taco and the Nola. First visit for us both and we were very impressed. I ordered the al pastor and sirena...wow to both. My partner ordered the jibarito and chile relleno taco. I stopped at Tata's Tacos on a last minute whim. Walking in you are greeted with chic whimsy. Chalkboards adorn the walls and tables. Each table has chalk to write your personal message. There is a cafeteria style feel when ordering your food though it doesnt run that way. You order at the cashier and wait for your number to be called. The one owner (who is super friendly and sweet) told me she calls it the "Panera of tacos." The menu isnt huge but has plenty to choose from. The owners really care about the quality of their ingredients. For example: the tilapia is farmed but fed vegetarian pellets and they swim at the top of the water, not the bottom. I ordered the tilapia taco (which I never get because they are bottom feeders), chicken taco and chips with pico The tilapia taco was outstanding. A bit of heat. The tilapia was perfectly cooked. The chicken taco was good. It needed cilantro or a stand out flavor of some sort. But it was good. The corn tortilla shells are made fresh to order and ground that morning. So they are super fresh! I will definitely be back to this place If you go, be sure to find street parking or park in the metered lot on the north side of Irving. read more
